Hi All,
I have a new TE103AP that I've recently installed, came back to use it a couple of days ago and found the screen to have no back light. It was being discussed in these posts, but was hijacking the thread so I moved it here as there seem to be more of these faults.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77147036&postcount=161
Problem description
I came back to the unit which had no image on the screen, and I was dertaching the monitor to check the fault when my phone rang through the bluetooth, so I realised the head unit was still working, but not the screen.
I then shined a bright light onto the screen, and realised I could see a faint image, and turn on the radio, so it seems the monitor backlight is the problem.
I inspected the ribbon cable which seems to be intact and the ports seem solid too. Thankfully my friend also has a TE103AP so I swapped our monitors and ribbon cables.
My monitor works fine on his head unit, and the back light lights up, however when I plug his working monitor into my head unit, it also does not work. therefore I can deduce it is a fault in my head unit.
I have a 4wd expedition coming up in 9 days, so I contact XTRONS-PRO on ebay (official ebay store of xtrons) and they tell me I have to send the unit back.
I say I'm running short of time but they insist not to use express postage to return the item.
I ask if they can send a replacement unit at the same time as I send the faulty back, and they say no.
I contact xtrons directly, they say contact the ebay seller.
I contact xtrons on facebook, and they suggest I buy another monitor...
In my research so far I have found a couple of other documented cases of this, and would like to coordinate our support experiences and results

Same problem here.
My issues started about 3 weeks ago. Ive been in contact with xtrons since then and they provided a new screen, as I don't have friend with the same headunit, to test my display.
Unfortunately the new display doesn't work either. I will now try to get a new base unit from them, if they try to charge me for anything, I will get in contact with Amazon and let them handle the situation. Their customer support is usually quite good and they have a bit more leverage than I have.
I'm also willing to return the headunit if the pay for shipping.
Btw: the headunit is just 2 month old, bought in may.
I will keep you updated.

Thanks Mate, I'm also asking them for help on Facebook too. Cant seem to link it here, but its on their community post section.
I will return my unit today and hope that the new one works fine.
I suspect any of those units are at risk of this kind of fault. Single weakest point of failure is always going to be the connector between the monitor and the main unit because that's where things detach and reattach.
I would just return it, but I suspect there's a chance this could happen now, in a month, or in twelve.
I will give it another try. If it should happen within the next 2 years I will get my money back from Amazon. They are usually really good with that kind of stuff.
Ive send my unit and the second screen back to them yesterday. Shipping cost me 69aud but they refunded it immediately. They also shipped the new unit once I sent them the tracking number and and a photo of the parcel.
So thumbs up for that??
My new headunit is going to be delivered today. I will report if everything works.

Hi Skezza,
I've tested my ribbon cable, and it is not the culprit. I also tested my ribbon cable ond monitor on a different unit, and my cable and monitor work fine, so my fault is definitely in the head unit, as I suspect @ankerede also is.
I have received my new head unit from Xtrons today (I had to pay $200 to have them send it before my faulty one arrived back at HK) so will update once reinstalled.

Seems like you get better customer service from Amazon than ebay, I had to pay a $200 deposit to get a new one sent out before my old one arrived back in HK. shame about the lack of consistency.
Did you try to contact xtrons directly? They have customer support on their website as well. They seemed to be quite helpful. I just decided to go with the Amazon support this time, because I had good experiences in the past.
I've received the new unit on Monday. But will set everything up at the weekend. I got a whole new system (display plus headunit and all the accessories). If it's working as well I'd say xtrons has a pretty good customer service.
Ive installed the new headunit and it's working???
Hi everybody,
I have exactly the same problem with the Xtrons te103ap, could it possibly be a factory error?
I'm really considering this HU. Not to thread jack but how do you like it?
These post are from 2018, I bought one a few months ago and the same thing happened to me! Tisk! I'll be contacting XTrons

Hi naghtan, i am Spanish and I am new in this world. I bought the last month one radio in Aliexpress with Android 4.4.2, and I found some problems in the software.
I am looking for help to introduce in this world and I ask me if you want to speak with me, because I want to know if I can develop or modify these Android softwares.
Thanks you! Regards!
These guys http://www.carjoying.com have warhoueses in EU and in the US to help lower costs and shipping issues. They are probably one of the most popular head unit companies right now as well.

Thanks so much! I found the website thorught google... but dont have the one...
Which are the original manufacturar? Hui Fei? I will send an email to them...
thanks!
I have bought from autopumpkin German warehouse. I am happy with the unit. Their prices seems a little bit better than joying if compared similar specs.
I also bought a Pumpkin last week. Received it within 5 days and off course without import duties as it came from the German wharehouse. Was a little disappointed when I checked the version that it is a MTCC head unit but apparently these can have both 4.4 and 5.1 installed. Reason to go with Pumpkin is that it has modular connections and it has a DAB+ box with a window antenna (almost invisible). Radio reception is excellent and Wifi range as good as my phone.
cons: external mic lead is too short, the radio is way bigger than standard 2-din and I need to cut the fascia for it to fit in.
Witson (or sommething like that) also has a EU warehouse.
Usually the sellers that has the possibility to send within eu mentions this (it os a selling point).
I got mine 2 months ago from a seller that doesn't has a Eu warehouse and I had to go through custom, and the dhl fee was actually higher that the actually taxes....
Therefore the customs taxes is not sommething to worry about. You should focus on getting a quality device from a seller that has a good customer support. Also shipping fee's can be high, so pay attention beacuase some sellers prices can be bigger for same device but free express shipping.
Thinking about possibly trying an aftermarket HU in my 2015 Chevy Cruze LTZ. I thought about just doing a double din but it would sit below my factory 7" screen which would be sort of lame.
I started looking into android head units and came across Car Navi Player. They say they are completely plug and play but almost seems to good to be true.
Does anyone have any experience with these?
Yep, I bought s190 from them about a month ago for my smart ForFour
Plug and play
DHL tracked delivery
Any contact is replied back literally within minutes
I ordered, cancelled because I thought I bought the wrong one, refunded with no questions asked , then ordered again and it was as smooth as butter
I paid £24 import and tax duty
---------- Post added at 10:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 AM ----------
Oh, and I also showed them a link to the same headunit at alliexpress which was with free postage
They then put thier unit up with free postage too and emailed me about the update
If you search ForFour GPS on Thier site, I gave them pictures of the unit installed in my car, and it is exactly as they advertised

Any issues or bugs that you have noticed?
I've been reading reviews about other brands and it seems some are plauged with issues of flakey sofware.

Nope not for me, but I only use it for sat nav and radio, I've not tried any weird and wonderful XDA apps or whatever
I have installed Smarty trend head unit, and it was really plugged and play in my case. I think all depends on the car.
I bought from them as well. In my case it was for a Hyundai Santa Fe. The transaction was seamless. Fast response, product as described. Totally plug-n-play in my case. If you have the time, shop around because their price is not always the cheaper. I've found the same units on aliexpress for less. I bought from them because I thought they were US-based but they're in China so it's the same as buying from any other supplier. Their customer service is indeed pretty good compared to most chinese sellers.

Same with me, I asked CarNaviPlayer if they could match it along with the free P&P the AliExpress offered, and they did

It is Germany company with production in China, they are saying so at their website, and that is not a secret. The quality is better than the one from Ali. I have such before the Smarty Trend and can definitely say that Smarty worth its money.

The problem with the Smarty Trend models is they mount below my factory touch screen. I was looking for a direct replacement.

What did you mean? I have had a direct replacement, the factory head unit was fully replaced.
I purchased from them in within 24 hours of install the touch screen would no longer work and they aren't providing info on how to return it. I would stay away.
I recently broke the front glass on my TA701PL. Anyone know where I could get a replacement Digitizer for it?
check on ali express... search for ZhiYuSun Freeshipping 2PCS/Lot YDT-8088-01-FPC 7inch Capacitive screen For GPS CAR 175mm*100mm Touchsensor glass YDT-8088-01-FPC.
I was looking for one for my similar unit and found that. In the end i managed luckily to get a refund from supplier so just purchased a new unit instead. Howeven this supplier said that this unit would work.
I dont know for sure but it looked like mine.
All I have to say is... YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME!! Thank you so much been contacting all the xtrons sellers and none of them have been helpful. Your the best!!
your welcome. Let us know if you ordered one and if it worked.... as i never actually made an order. It would be good to know for the future. Those devices are so easy to break when installing or removing from car.

I wonder if he sells the glass only, as there are some without the buttons.
Hi all, I have a screen problem with my 8 month old JY-UM128N2 Joying head unit. Looks to be an identical problem to this one
I have fiddled with the ribbon, turned the internal pot but no improvement.
I am not willing to spend $120 on return postage to China from Australia get it replaced. A joke as Joying have an Australian warehouse.
Can anyone shed any light on the problem?
Thanks.
Sorry, link not working. Youtube video titled 20170826 110528
Thanks.
Hi folks,
I'm replacing a busted factory navigation unit in my 2011 Camry and after reading through these very helpful forums I've more or less settled on Joying, but would like advice on choosing between a TM121N2 or TO139P4. After sending car info and dash pics Joying recommended the PX5-based TO139P4; looking through their site the only other option that fits my fascia seems to be the SoFIA-based TM121N2.
On the surface the TO139P4 would seem to be a better choice (newer design, 9" vs 8", 4gb RAM vs 2gb, Android 8.0 vs 6.0) but I get the impression from the forums that this unit would be harder to customize than the TM121N2 (which I believe will work with the custom ROM posted by gtxaspec - please correct me if I'm wrong).
I don't intend to do any extreme customization, I just want to be able to fix things that don't work as I like then leave it alone. Primary usage is just navigation and music (since in reality 90% of the time my wife drives this car).
All other things being equal, given the choice, which one would you guys choose?
TIA for any advice
you also an choose TO121P2 or TO121P4:
Please read the reviews on amazon regarding Joying after sale service. I would recommend another brand. If your unit broke after 15 days (Joying policy), it will cost you almost double to get it repaired. I am one of the recent victims with TM121N2.

Thanks, somehow I missed seeing TO121P2. I can't find the P4 on their site (at least not in their search) but it does turn up on AliExpress.

Get the P4, I just got it. Works great. Service and support is decent, had no problems. My first joying was defective and they exchanged it, and paid me the cost of shipping it back to them 100%. Firmware updates regularly, what more could you want?
If you see an Intel model, you can special order it from joying in a P4 model, which is what I did. My model is only offered in an Intel N2 model, and they were able to give me the same facia in a P4. Really great.
Thanks for the advice folks, I ended up ordering a TO121P4 and received it today.
