Okay. I recently downloaded the ES File Explorer app. on my Kindle Fire HD 8 (7th generation) so that I could move files onto my sd card. Well, when I did this, the annotations on the ebooks downloaded from Gutenberg disappeared (I believe the file type is mobi). Oddly enough, however, the annotations on my pdf files were unaffected. Is there anyway to get back those annotations? Also, before I moved my files, I renamed one of the ebooks using ES. Renaming also had the effect of removing the annotations. I attached pictures...not sure if they help.

In the first picture, notice that the mobi files appear to have a corresponding folder. The mobi file whose name I changed is "Notes from the Underground.mobi"; I think its previous name was "pg2554-images.mobi". When I changed the name, is it possible that, when I opened the mobi file, it couldn't link with its corresponding folder which caused the annotations to disappear? I don't know how to account for the other loses, though.

I updated to the new Energy rom and now I don't see "messages" in the quick links. Anyone know how to add it?
Can anyone chime in to help?
Have a look in your windows folder on your phone. Look for messaging_Client.exe if it is there then you can create a shortcut with something like Total commander in the start menu and should give you your shortcut. If you dont see it then I would ask in the roms thread.
Where is the Windows folder? I have the phone connected to my computer with ActiveSync but the \windows directory is the only one I don't see.

You need to have all files and folders shown but when you hook it up to the pc then go into main storage (not SD card) you should see the windows folder
This is all that I see:

Ok you have to go into your control panel on your PC under folder options and unhide the protected folders.
Eureka, I found it! Thanks!
Trying to change my keyboard in my as instructed in http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showthread.php?t=774338
(FROYO BUILD)
However there is no app folder in system.
Ive looked everywhere and cant seem to find where to replace the two files. Please help as I can only use the stock android keyboard.
This is evident only in FROYO builds. In all others i can find the /system/ap folder.

Have you tried Astro File Explorer? If not, give it a try and if the "App" folder is still invisible, you might try making an "App" folder in the system folder and place your files in it.
Thread belongs in the HD2 Android General Discussion forum.

Root Explorer is superior to every other in my opinion.
so i safestrapped and flashed jellybeans on one of the safestrap slots and everything was great.
i hadnt done anything major to my phone but i had a bunch of hidden files (mostly photos) in two files. one was stuff hidden directly from the gallery (select>move>"file name") and it worked great. no problems. another was a
backup" file with media i just moved into there with es file explorer.
two days ago, all of the sudden, gone. cant see it in the dialog when i try to move media in my gallery. i found the file in es file explorer and its empty. same with my backup file. what the hell?
i havent done anything major to my phone.what would cause this? how do i get them back?!
srs, need help
all the sudden, there is this folder called Undelete that showed up randomly. all the files are broken and the is 725+ of them. I'm guessing these are my photos I lost.
is there a way to use an external pc App to restore the files from my phone? I plugged it n and can't get anything to scan the internal memory.

I renamed the folder to recovery and tried to move it to the SD card, no luck.
was wondering, i have followed a few tuts on how to manually fix sd card permissions.
"
Using a root-enabled file manager (like ES file explorer), navigate to /system/etc/permissions
Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
Add an additional group definition for this permission: <group gid=”media_rw” />
Save the changes to the file.
Restart the phone."

seems that when i reboot my phone the permissions files gets jacked up and i have to re edit it and reformat card. then works for a while, seems to happen when powering off phone or rebooting it. have SU, busybox pro, and triangle away installed on device
any ideas? was stock root 4.4.3 sphl720.
i have a note 2 on the way and want to get this sorted before i start tinkering. thanX in advance
I've checked the permission on device/etc/permission/platform.xml and its no problem as u can see the photo i put below....but it is say that my sd card is not writeable while im using csr screen recorder and some other application..

So I tried other methods that required having ADB drivers installed and whatnot, however I couldnt get my PC to recognize my Amazon Fire tablet. So I tried installing the APKs one by one.
So this is what I did;
Enable "Unknown Sources" Option
By default this is turned off to prevent you from installing adware/crapware and such by clicking on harmful ads(sometimes they autoclick themselves) in shady websites. e.g kickass.to, xnxx.com and even pornhub.com

Download em APKs
Get them APKs here: Dropbox
Install them one by one
Using your favorite file browser(I used ES File Explorer coz its on the Amazon Appstore), scroll to the Download folder and click on the APKs one by one to install them. They take fairly long to install. So be patient.
Now you a part of Googles Ecosystem. Enjoy!!!
similar to how i did it also ..
but this was before all the ADB stuff they made..
then i manually turned off all the services i didn't want..
was a pain BUT i didnt want to have to factory reset my Fire
just to do it the easy way .. IE: with the adb script
and have to reinstall all my programs/books, over again
thanks for this post may help some people.
PS: i should note there might be some problems with the way you and i did it
