Just got Fire-Tab 10 need help - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I took advantage of Amazon's Prime Sale and got the Fire-10 Tablet. It was able to sync most of my apps from my "little" Fire. The OS that installed itself is 5.6.2.0. Is there a way to root this OS?

No, and olease make sure you tick this is a question box before you post, these headings are very misleading.

Custom ROM / CM on HD 8?

I am interested, and I am sure others are as well in removing Amazon's bloatware from their decent tablet.
I know the $49 tablet has done it, I am just wondering about compatibility.
It would be so awesome if we got CM-12.1 on the HD 8.

Would be awesome. Hopping this happens. But before this can happen we would first hear of a custom recovery option for the HD10 like TWRP. Which is more complicated then making a Rom. After that Roms can be next.
Hopefully a couple of good developers can get their hands on some HD10's to get them developing for them. :fingers-crossed:
Note: Missed the part that you where asking about HD8's not HD10's. But since HD10's are the only of the two that are rootable at the moment. I would think the HD10's are more likely to get recovery & Roms.
- I have been looking into the HD8 and HD10
- They seem to use the same firmware - both are codenamed 'thebes'
- All the known exploits have been fixed up by amazon making these devices well locked down
- The devices use the MediaTek 8135 and this has proved very difficult to work with
- The Amazon HD6 uses the same processor and while I was able to get CM-11 working, there were problems with video playback, bluetooth etc
- Getting TWRP to work on these devices has a low probability
- However if we get a working version of FlashFire for these devices then there is a possibility for a custom ROM.

Humn... Wonder if kingroot has ever been tested on the older FW on HD8 since they are the same as HD10's. Don't own one so haven't paid attention to HD8's.
Forgot about FlashFire, which would be great for HD10/HD8. Is there a way to request FlashFire support. Maybe the developer might just need some info/files from us to get it going.

I haven't ask Chainfire yet, he's seems to have a lot on his plate.
I can confirm Kingroot works on the HD8 and therefore the HD10.
I don't own either devices but was able to borrow an HD8 for a small amount of time and I managed to gain root access with the latest version of KingRoot.

Please ask Chainfire at least what he would need from us so we can get them ready for him.
I knew HD10 was KingRootable. But did not know about HD8. Thanks for verifying that. I don't even have the HD10 anymore myself. But do have long distance access to it. I gave it to a family member. But I hope to still get CM12.1 or other ROM on it for them to get the full Android experience. Hope it happens.
I do have a few 7"rs here. Thanks a lot for the ROMs you've release for it. :good:
I have had no issues with roots, Kingroot works great on all versions.
I used FlashFire which worked great, didn't need a custom recovery on Fire 7".

In case of issues, immediately after rebooting back into Android:
- Post /sdcard/FlashFire/lastlog
- Post /proc/last_kmsg
The latter may not be present, and is replaced on every reboot. So if you rebooted twice, no sense posting it. Please, post these things to http://pastebin.com/, so I don't need to download and open these files manually.
If you are ready to start messing around with it, this is how you get the BETA:
- Go to: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/eu.chainfire.flash
- Use the link provided on that page to download the app. Note that it may take minutes to even hours before the provided link actually works.
If you have no idea what any of the above means, you might want to wait with playing with this until proper instructions are available, and more people have tested it.

Chainfire has now responded requesting logs of folks trying to run FlashFire on the three tablets. Instructions about logging is quoted above from the OP @ the FlashFire thread.
I don't have immediate access to the HD10 tablet. So someone else with a HD10 will need to do the testing to get the logs. We will need to find at least one tester per tablet. More then one would be good too.
Guess will need folks with HD6, HD8 & HD10 tablets to ROOT & install FlashFire v31 & try to run it & save both logs to show Chainfire. Make sure you label which tablet, what FirmWare, what KingRoot & which FlashFire version you are using. Let us know which tablet you'll be testing on below.
Addendum: You can get the v31 FlashFire APK from ChainFire's G+ post:

Never mind. Tried it one more time (after posting (arghhhh!)) and it worked.
OK. I got my fire 8 on Wednesday. (Fire OS 5.0.1 - 5.1.1 downloaded and is waiting for me to install since I turned on WiFi.)
(Fastboot mode is just a black screen, no logo whatsoever, seems to respond to commands.)
Tried a few different root methods. (All failed.)
This afternoon I finally gave in, setup WiFi and used kingroot. After a few reboots, thankfully no auto fire updates, I finally got root os. (No root in adb.)
Installed SuperSU and get stuck updating binary.
FlashFire will not work since I don't have SuperSU or cm permissive.
Help.
How do I get rid of kingroot and install SuperSU?
Note :
I am very uncomfortable using kingroot.
I prefer root methods that do not require online access.

Root Kindle Fire HD 8 (6th Gen)

Hi
I'm new on here today so forgive my lack of knowledge!
I've tried to root my HD8 (6th Gen) using Kingroot but I can't download the app direct to my Kindle. I can sideload it but just wanted to check if the current Kingroot app will support the OS 5.3.2.1. If not can someone help with rewinding my Kindle to a previous OS that Kingroot will work with? Or am i just showing my ignorance there?
Cheers!
Unless there is an update I missed, Kingroot does not work on the gen 6 devices. I don't think there is a root method yet.

Released - Fire OS 5.6.0.1

Interesting, one of my Fire TB HD8 (7th Generation) has just updated from 5.6.0.0 to 5.6.0.1.
I wonder what this release has for us - who knows, Amazon might even have addressed the battery drain and SD Card issues we have been seeing of late.
Got this update today. Nothing seems different.
Is rooting / debloating possible? I cannot find "any" information regarding to this patch.

No root. It *may* be possible to rollback to FireOS 5.4.0.0 which is eligible for partial "debloating". To my knowledge no one has tried that from 5.6.0.1 yet. An invalid rollback will irreversibly brick the device.
It seems that sideloading no longer requires locking and unlocking your fire.

Not sure what this means; locking/unlocking has never been a prerequisite for ADB sideload from stock recovery. Are you referring to side loading apps from within FireOS?
Re. rooting kindle fire. It seems this is not possible (at least on the Fire 5th gen.) Is this because no-one has worked out the details of the procedure yet or is there something about the Fire OS which makes it unrootable?

There are no known vulnerabilities in 5th gen FireOS builds above 5.3.1 that can be exploited to secure root privileges. It has nothing to do with working out the "details of the procedure". Rather someone needs to find an 'unlocked door' that does not lead to a dead end. Google and Amazon have been working hard to close such loopholes as root access pretty much breaks Android security.

I take it this situation is unlikely to improve (from the rooting point of view). So are more devices (phones in particular) likely to become unrootable in the future?

It's happening now and for the past several years. Fewer devices can be rooted as vulnerabilities (security loopholes) are identified and squashed. This is partially offset by increasing capabilities/refinement in newer Android versions. There is less of a 'need' to root although the desire will always be a priority among a small subset of enthusiasts (of which I associate with).

I rolled back from 5.6.0.1
I got this as a gift so had little choice but to switch it on & show willing & of course it updated.
Whilst looking into it I found the rollback tool, then when I went to use it the tablet was already on 5.6.0.1. However as it was well within warranty & I know amazon are great with returns I just gave it a go.
All worked exactly as it should have.
Anybody tried rollback on a 5th Gen?
I am getting SD Card issues and Performance issues!
Can anybody try to rollback on 5th Gen??
Fire 0s 5.6.0.1
I hope Amazon will include the option to mirror soon. I can't understand why they never included it as i would love to use kod i on my kindle fire he 8 7th generation and mirror to my roku streaming stick.

Answered your own question: using a competitors streaming stick/tool (roku). Amazon will never add mirroring support for another product. If it happens to work with non-Fire devices fine.

Thanks for the reply. Could you let us know what tools you used? I'm looking for whatever I can do to de-Amazon my Fire 5th Gen running 5.6.0.1.
Fixed the Install button being greyed out when sideloading apps, so no need for the workarounds that was needed to get button activated when using Fire 5.6.0.0

Rooting Fire Hd 8 (7th Generation) Which Rom?

You can make a bunch of tweaks to make it feel like stock Android (download play store, debloat Amazon apps, use Nova launcher, etc).
But, there are no custom ROMs available for the 7th Gen Fire 8 , nor is there a bootloader unlock. Even if there were other ROMs, we'd need a bootloader unlock before flashing ROMs.

@ggow I wonder if you still have this on your list of things you might look at?
We can compile a ROM using stock boot.img and flash it with FlashFire but it would be very difficult... And we will need a lot of tests...
I'm going to download the cm12 sources and see if I can do anything.
