Incoming call phone number wrong format - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I have updated to Verizon Oreo from 930U and the incoming call has "+" added for every phone number non existent in contacts . Incoming number format +9999999999.
Using non-verizon sim. With 930U no issues.
Phone country settings is set to US with no option to change.

I didn't notice any change but looking in phone settings and settings app, I don't think you can change it. Also a G930U would not have gotten the Verizon update for G930V. I assume whatever you manually did to change between the variants caused this (ie stock Samsung rom versus Verizon rom)

Seems like this is a known issue for using verizon phone (apple, android) on GSM sim card. Even tried verizon custom hybrid ROM still issue persists. Went back to 930U.

Yeah so as I said it seems it's a Verizon change to the ROM. I've always had this format as far as I can remember and don't use a GSM sim card. CDMA/LTE with Verizon SIM. It's probably part of the SystemUI.apk or Phone.apk so if rooted you could try using another but such a small thing (also why don't you like the universal format out of curiosity? I live in the US and only call +1 numbers but I like it )

It doesn't add +1 just + before the 10 digit number.

That's not true.. It adds +1, the US international prefix. The 10 digits after are the US phone number itself

Using the same SIM that my Verizon S7 came with (from Verizon). Your OP makes no sense. You are or aren't on a U variant? You are or aren't rooted? You are or aren't using a Verizon SIM? Either way I feel like this is more applicable to the custom rom or variant you are using. On Verizon roms at least what you are saying just isn't true. Don't mean to be mean, I just don't think this is the forum for your question. More applicable to the general QA or the thread for whatever ROM/sim you are using that gives differences.

Did you understand my problem and read from the S4 link posted in my previous post which has similar issue. Problem is when using a GSM sim on Verizon S7 with stock rom. You are using a Verizon sim in Verizon phone so you don't have issue. I am using a GSM sim in Verizon S7 hence the problem. Don't make conclusions without understanding / testing.

[Q] Using an AT&T S4 with Verizon

Hey guys, I'm getting my hands on my friend's Galaxy S4. He is on an AT&T plan and got then phone from them through an upgrade. I personally prefer Verizon. I was wondering if I could get some help on making his phone work for me. I have a SIM card and everything, currently using a RAZR MAXX. I've done a little looking around, and from what I gathered, the phone is capable of working with verizon, but I'll have to load a different kernel and ROM onto it. I've looked through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295557 that thread and found some nice info, but I'm not yet confident enough in my knowledge to go through with it. I've decided on the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305781 CLEANROM 1.6.5, but I don't know what else I'm going to need to have in order to make this phone work for me. I also don't know if I'll need to download the Verizion or the AT&T version of this. Thanks for all the help, I'm really wanting to make this work for me so I can actually get a powerhouse of a phone.

Your link is to a thread regarding other variants of S4 roms. Although you can use other S4 roms on the i337, the phone wont work on verizon carrier.

I'm not sure about that. ROM shouldn't matter too much, you just have to have it SIM unlocked and I believe it won't work too well due to the different frequencies between carriers and so you may not get LTE or something. Maybe someone can correct me though.

Verizon/Sprint phones use CDMA.
ATT/T-Mobile use GSM
I don't think you can use a CDMA phone on a GSM network and vice versa.
EDIT:
Per the replies below, it looks like it ispossible.
Here is a thread from the Verizon forums.
Also, if this WIKI page is correct, the Verizon S4 has both CDMA and GSM radio's where the ATT S4 only has a GSM radio.
The first thing to identify on the phone is whether or not it is on the stock AT&T ROM and what version that ROM is. If it is I337UCUAMF3 then changing the bootloader/kernal/rom is not even an option to begin with which means there would be no way to change out the modem to support other carrier bands (such as those used by Verizon). On top of that, although I have heard that the modem hardware is the same on all versions of the S4 I have not heard anyone confirm that they have successfully enabled CDMA services on the I337.

There are some that work on other networks without the need for modem changes. I read about some using the Verizon on AT&T, and I used the droid Bionic, a Verizon exclusive with a locked boot loader, on AT&T.

The strange thing is you can use a Verizon S4 on AT&T but you can't do it the other way around. Verizon phones all come unlocked, allowing you to use the phone anywhere around the world.
The AT&T S4 does not contain the CDMA chip allowing you to use it on the Verizon network, plus it has to do something with IMEI. If you give the IMEI to Verizon, they won't be able to locate which device you are trying to activate because it's not in the system. But if you use a Verizon S4 and put in a AT&T SIM card, you don't have to register the IMEI with AT&T or T-Mobile.

I can confirm that this is true about the verizon s4. I have a Verizon s4 and have used AT&T and straight talk on it. My brother uses that phone daily on his AT&T account.
I will test my AT&T s4 when I get around to finding my sim card.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use an AT&T S4 on Verizon because the AT&T S4 doesn't have the CDMA capabilities.

Yea I noticed that the ATT S4 doesn't have everything that the Verizon S4 has in the service menu. Like I can turn on all the different bands in the service menu, but on my ATT S4 I get restrictions on wcdma.
I'm new to all this. I traded a iPhone for the ATT version because I couldn't figure out how to make the Verizon version work on straight talk..
Not two days after I have the ATT I somehow got it working... Lol. So now I have two with unlocked bootloaders and sum unlocked...

Hi to all. Thanks for this community, my problem is: I have Samsung Galaxy S5 Verizon SM-G900V but I use it for different carrier and I have a problem notification message Phone activation: This SIM card is from an unknown source. Can anybody confirm is it just my phone have a problem or any Verizon phone with different carriers. Thank you.
Verizon is a world phone. Your sim card is from another gsm carrier. It's just warning you that the sim card doesn't belong to verizon. GSM will work just fine. All verizon LTE phones are unlocked

Yes it's working fine but i have small problems. I cant send IMEI code it says Connection problem or invalid MMI code. I can turn on native hotspot (I know provider is allowed me tethering) it says Mobile number not found. I really want to hear from people with same model and different carrier if they have same problem. Because if not I can still change my phone. Thank you.

If I were you I'd change my phone. The Verizon variant is probably the least ideal for your situation. Go with t-mobile or possibly even international version. That way you can actually root it and you may even avoid these issues as Verizon phone is pretty specific to Verizon, world phone or not.

I don't understand why? I can wait for root it not critical for me and later use like CDMA in Ukraine. Is it T-Mobile and international can work like CDMA. Sorry for my dumb question because transfer from iPhone and new with Android and phones with OS.
I am also wait for announcement.
Is this possible? Can I put another ROM version (like international) and "transform" the SM-G900V to SMG900H for example? A friend mine have a Verizon version and is living in Brazil... The Verizon version dont have the portuguese language... And the carrier Verizon isnt present there...
I have an S5 in Brazil from Vereizon
I got my S5 to work in Brazil, 4g network and all the only problem i still have is this message of THE SIM CARD IS FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE but so far have not noticed any problems with the funcions on it!!!!
Can i get this message away?
And i can relate with the person on the last post, the phone does not have Portuguese as a language to choose...
for me is ok but I understand that this is a fluke by Samsung(all phones should have most languages already in it)

Could i install another firmware (rom) instead of Verizon to s7 edge?

Hello Dears;
My cousen was bought S7 Edge from Verizon to me. I am living in Turkey. (Europe) And i would like to use rom with Turkish language.
As i know, all s7 edge phones selling with exynos processor in Turkey & Europe. Also they have different rom than USA.
I just want to install new rom which has been using on Europe. Could i change it? Is it possible or not?
Why not? / Why yes? Waiting for your answers. Thank you for all supports...

Not possible. Biggest reason, all European (actually anything not from North America or China) S7's are Exynos variants, all US (including verizon) ones are Qualcomm. Different architecture, different kernels, different ROMS. But aside from that, the Verizon one (same with all US ones) are bootloader locked, with signature checks on flash, meaning if the ROM isn't signed by Verizon (or maybe by specific Samsung keys) it won't flash on your phone.

Thank you very much _Dennis_ for your perfect answer. I just need to be sure one more thinks;
* When i try to open my phone, i see verizon logo on boot. Are there any way to possible not see to that logo?
* The phone is giving "SIM car is not from Verizon Wireless" notification on all restarts. Also i don't want to see this notification automatically!
* I would like to use HD Voice feature but i couldn't As i understood, i need a Verizon Wireless account to enable this option. But i don't Do you know any way to open this option without Verizon account. Or any way to create account on Verizon Wireless without Verizon number. Because of we just using Turkish carriers gsm card on Turkey as well.

1: No, you need to change the boot animation for this and that is not possible without root.
2: No, again root is needed to modify system files. Or open a Verizon account.
3: Again no, you need a Verizon account to create one and a sim card to use their HD capable network.
Sorry for all the negative answers but that's the way it is with a locked phone and not on the phones network. #2 is a bit silly because the phone is network unlocked but they still do this to us.

He means a bootloader locked phone. You can still have a sim unlocked phone, which you do, with a locked bootloader, which is preventing you from changing the things you want to.

It doesn't matter if it's carrier unlocked it's still Verizon branded. Like I said it's silly but that's the way they operate. We need it bootloader unlocked and then all these annoyances can be fixed. Until then we are stuck with what we have. Your only other option is to sell the phone you have and purchase one for the carrier you are currently on. Other than that you will have to put up with the sim card message and no HD calls.

Bump - anyone know if this will work?
As soon as I get mine unlocked I'll let you know as I have Verizon. All s8 models are the same but I'm sure the T-Mobile software has blocked Verizon bands. I'm sure if you flash Verizon software it will work just fine.
I have an unlocked T-Mobile Galaxy S8+ and it does not work on Verizon. I went into a Verizon store and they tried for an hour to activate the phone to no avail. They tried multiple different SIM cards and none of them worked. If anyone has better luck, please let me know. But they weren't able to figure it out at Verizon.

You need an unlocked Tmobile S8 or S8 plus.
Read the instruction in "Flash any carrier 100%" to flash to the carrier you desired, activate all bands.
Then use it on Verizon.
You need to flash your phone to Verizon to work. I did the exact opposite actually. I bought a Verizon device and flashed it fully to T-Mobile. Works perfect on T-Mobile because every US Galaxy S8 for the major carriers is SM-G950U. They support each other's bands, their just disabled by the carrier firmware.

I did not have any luck flashing it to the official Verizon Firmware, but I was able to flash it to the G955U1 firmware. The official unlocked US Firmware. Make sure your t mobile device is SIM unlocked by TMOBILE before you do this.
1. SIM unlock device by tmobile (pay off device, meet the 40 day requirement, etc).
2. Flash to G955U1 (S8+) or G950U1 (S8).
3. Insert Verizon SIM or ATT or any SIM.
4. Your phone will give you pop up warning saying it needs to restart to configure the new SIM.
5. Enjoy your new carrier.
Did you use a Verizon SIM and did you get both VoLTE and WiFi calling to work with the G955U1 FW?
my 2 cents

I went to Verizon store and used one of their Verizon SIMS from a display model of the S8+. Voice over LTE works, Data works and I was not able to test Wifi Calling at the store. I even ran a speed test and had about 27mpbs down and the associate ran speed test on his phone and he got about 20mpbs down connected to the same server using the Speedtest app. I ran the LTE discovery app and shows me connected to LTE Band 13.
Hope all of this helps.
Bringing S8 to sprint?
Did you anybody try to use a TMobile or other branded S8 on Sprint? The Sprint customer support is not able to add the IMEI to their database for whatever reason.
@Aephel
 @T33H00
Silly question, but does doing all this void Warranty? or is there no such issue anymore?
For example flashing Verizon Firmware onto a Tmobile Unlocked.
I unlocked my t-mobile s8 plus and attempted to use a Verizon SIM. It does NOT work. Verizon states that the IMEI is not in there database and that they cannot activate it.

Carrier changing an unlocked Galaxy s8 plus

Can I buy an unlocked Galaxy s8 plus that comes from a different carrier (say Sprint) and flash the AT&T firmware to it, changing the carrier identity so that you get features like wifi calling and VoLTE?
Thanks!

Yes you could get it working with wifi calling and voice over LTE no problem but you got to make sure that if you get a phone like from Sprint/Verizon / T-Mobile unlocked before trying to carrier switching

Thanks for replying. So make sure I have this right.
If I purchase a Verizon/Tmo/sprint Galaxy s8 plus and put my AT&T sim in it and it activates on the network and allows me to make/take phone calls then I can assume that the device is unlocked. If it's carrier locked that should not work.
Yes that is correct but if you want to have all the AT&T features you must carrier switch following instructions here on XDA which will convert your Verizon/ Sprint S8 phone and to a completely AT&T phone
