S8 G950U - n00b in distress - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Hi xda Team
I've been searching through the forum and reading just to find a bit of answer before I ask, however, the answers I've found are really limited.
Let me first off say I am a n00b....... awesome glad we are now on the same page
I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 ATT version currently on baseband G950USQU1AQEF, it only got there because I found a thread where I could manually download each update file and place it on my card and do a manual update .... now imagine having to do that for every single update... sucks huh??
The main issue is my found would not do the OTA update, it keeps saying its up to date so I am still stuck on android 7.0 when 8.0 has been out for decards
A post was made of the official firmware update .. here is the link https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s8/how-to/att-g950u-stock-odin-files-firmware-t3795961
My question is can I simple download odin and install that update without any issues??
Will it lock back my phone??
Please let me know if I can just go ahead and install it.
Thanks in advance for your answers and understanding my noobiness

Go to Updato.com and search firmware for the G950U. Sort by date and the newest will be at the top.
The latest listed is CRF5 and says Verizon. Now, since the last 7.0 firmware I believe it was, ALL carrier files are included. Meaning even though it says Verizon, you can flash it on an AT&T variant and you will have all the AT&T bloat and no VZW. I always flash the Verizon version because it gets posted the soonest, and ones officially labeled AT&T never do.
You will need the latest update file:
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=9101315B86C211E89F15FA163EE8F90B
AND the latest modded Odin to flash 8.0 files:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JMjqNxg8Y8W-Tpo9TCYIb_LL7LhhpHri/view?usp=sharing
NOTES:
-I always remove the .md5 off the end of each file just to make it flash faster.
-Home CSC will keep all your info, the NON Home CSC will do a complete wipe of your phone

On the question of "will it lock back my phone?"
No. Once the phone is unlocked, that's it. Firmware has no affect on its network lock status.

How to change baseband version in Galaxy S4(i9500)?

I bought Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013 back when it was a flagship device, it came installed with Android Jellybean, almost 4 years have passed and it is still stuck at Jellybean. Since then, it didn't got a single update.
I'm not sure what is the latest update for S4 because the updates pushed by Samsung never reach my phone and that is because of baseband version. Other S4's have got quite a few updates till now. In fact, I updated my friend's S4 to Lollipop and my own S4 is stuck at Jellybean.
I visited Samsung website and found that they release updates only for some baseband versions of S4 and that list didn't contain the baseband version of my S4 so it is forever stuck at 4.2.2. Samsung Customer Care says go to service center, they will update your phone manually. I said why should I when I got a flagship phone, it should get updates OTA.
Because my S4 didn't get any update, the same thing must have happened with many other ones and will probably happen with S8 due to launch in 2017. Many of those S8s will never receive any single update.
So is it possible that baseband version can be changed and I switch to the one that gets update? There is always an option to flash a custom ROM but if I get an official update to Lollipop, I will be happy.
Before the Samsung update reaches your phone it has to pass through the carrier's hands first, where they add their crappy bloat.
In other words, if there's no update, then it's probably your carrier's fault.
You could update manually with Odin.

I am from India so no system of carrier here.
Umm, you guys in India have cellular networks. Those are the aforementioned carriers. They may not add any bloat, but they do have to test the updates first before releasing them to the devices. This is to ensure the update doesn't cause unwanted problems on the network. However, we're heading into 2017, and after all this time you should have received an update to Android 5.0.1. So let's verify that you have a model intended for India. Please enter download mode and read off the model number at the top left corner of the screen.
Changing the baseband will not automatically get you a ROM update. If you want an updated ROM for your phone, I suggest updating to the latest bootloader and modem, flash TWRP, and then flash a custom ROM.

Here is the correct firmware version of my device: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14242/I9500XXUAMDK_I9500ODDAMDK_INU
Sam Mobile is not displaying Android version, if you look at sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9500/INU, my device PDA and CSC versions are second from last. But if you look at other S4s in the same list, most of them got Android 5.0.1 so can't I just download any one of them and flash it using Odin?
You're looking on the wrong page. Individual ROM pages do not display the Android version, but the full list does, where that information is applicable. In your case, the ROM you linked to doesn't have a version number, but also happens to be the ROM originally on the device, based upon the PDA and CSC. Check here. Not only does it tell you the version, but tells you the date it was posted. The one you want will be at the top of the list, as it's the latest available for your device.

I also posted the same link as yours, just scroll to the very bottom, there are 2 entries that doesn't display the Android version and one of them is mine - second from last. The PDA and CSC matches my device.
PDA - I9500XXUAMDK
CSC - I9500ODDAMDK
Well, you might want to reread my post, as I edited it while you were typing.
Anyway, in post 6, this is the link you provided: sammobile.com/firmwares/download/14242/I9500XXUAMDK_I9500ODDAMDK_INU
This is mine: sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9500/INU/
Big difference.
The link you provided takes you directly to that particular ROM. The link I provided takes you to every ROM available for that device using the CSC of INU. Based upon your opening post, you're looking to update to the latest ROM. However, you are getting hung up because the ROM you currently have on your device doesn't have a date. It doesn't matter how old your ROM is! The latest version for your device will always be at the top of the database page, i.e. the link I provided in post 7. Thus, as of this moment, the ROM you want is here. Download it, flash it via Odin, and you're done.

Thanks! By the way, I did post 2 links, it's just that because I don't have a total of 10 posts, I can't post link so the second link(in plain text) isn't easily spotable but it is there and it is same as yours. Check after "Sam Mobile is not displaying Android version"
Obvious link was not obvious. You're right.

I've downloaded firmware from the link you provided, flashed it via ODIN and now my S4 is successfully running 5.0.1, thanks a lot! Need one more help from you - I didn't perform factory reset, I directly flashed the firmware and now only 2 things have changed on my phone - root status and android version. Root is now gone and that's what I wanted, Android version has also changed but all my files, data and apps are same; no single app got deleted, all are exactly same as before so do I need to perform a factory reset and wipe cache?
If you haven't encountered any bugs or app crashes, I don't think a factory reset is needed.

identifying proper firmware

This has to be a complete newb question but how come when I search on sammobile or updato there isn't an AT&T firmware under SM-G950U, but rather it's always under SM-G950U1?
Example - SamMobile for U1 -- lists AT&T firmware
But SamMobile for SM-G950U, although it lists several carriers, does not have AT&T.
Background: My wife and I both got AT&T branded S8s. I got mine through Samsung.com, she got hers through Best Buy. Mine had no problems receiving OTAs. Hers is still stuck with software from April and will not receive OTA updates nor will it update via SmartSwitch, so I was just going to flash latest AT&T via odin, but only seeing software under 950U1, I just wanted to make sure I was downloading the right one (currently this one, I believe)
@mhh84,
You can download the .zip files for AT&T updates from here, and ADB sideload them > https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s8/how-to/adb-sideload-servers-t3647117
Thanks but I'm not sure that answered my question or helped me. Her phone is on April security patch. The page you linked seemed to have incremental updates but doesn't go back to April.

You can download AQF7 from this thread (post #5), then follow the step by step incremental updates from the first post that I linked. > https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s8/how-to/att-software-update-g950usqs1aqf7-t3625728
OK, thanks @cam30era. I'm still a little unclear about my initial question though. Is the answer that AT&T firmwares aren't available or that for some reason they all just are classified under U1? I guess I want to know why it's better to do 5 incremental updates like this rather than just grabbing the August AT&T firmware from updato/sammobile. That was my original plan. I just got confused why the AT&T showed up under U1 rather than U.

I can't tell you the "why", but from observation I can tell you that there are no Odin download links for AT&T firmware updates after April. Using @norbarb thread for ADB sideload appears to be the only way to update if you're not getting OTAs.

Updating from Marshmallow to Oreo(stuck on MM)

Hey guys, One of my friends S7 edge(SM-G935FD)duos unlocked bought in Australia, Probably a grey import is stuck on MM without any updates
Software update Just says no updates available. Tried connecting to Switch, still no luck finding updates.
I been reading that it could be updated through Odin. Just trying to get it updated to Oreo!
Just few questions before i proceed
1. Can Oreo be flashed directly on MM without going to Nougat?
2. Since he is using the phone in Australia can i flash SM-G935F firmware's found on this link? https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935F/XSA/
(just hoping he would get future OTA updates if i flash Australian Firmware. right?)
3. From the above link, how important is the CSC & PDA , can i just choose the latest and flash? Unlocked phone
4. any tips or guides you guys can point me towards
Thank you
sorry, anyone able answer my 1st question if possible?
is there a tg group?

SamFirm does not load any info for an ATT S8+ / Does not show "USA" Region option. What do I do?

I hate ATT. I hope their stupid company dies soon.
Anyway, I'm trying to flash my ATT S8+ that is running Android 7.0 with Android Pie. I first attempted to use Frija and it said that the ATT "CSC code not supported". I then tried SamFirm and when I input the phone model SM-G955U, it doesn't show the "United States" Region option.
Ideally, I would like to flash my phone with an unbranded Android Pie. What do I do?
UPDATE: I am able to find many different firmware files on SamFrew. However, I still need to know if I can flash an unbranded XAA file from there?
Will it work? And do I need a modded version of Odin to flash? I came across some guy's youtube tutorial that says only to use a modded Odin to flash unbranded firmware on an ATT Samsung phone, but unfortunately his video is from three years ago and so I'm not sure if the modded Odin he's linked to will be compatible and be able to flash the much recent released firmware updates.
UPDATE: Issue resolved. I went ahead and flashed it and it worked.

T387AAUCS3CUD1 Firmware for SM-T387AA (Samsung Galaxy Tab A)

Hi!
Does anyone know where I can find the T387AAUCS3CUD1 stock ROM? I'm trying to fix a unit that I may have messed up by tinkering with custom ROMs.
Anyone?
Still nothing?
Hi also searching high and low for T387AAUCS3CUD1.
Any success finding it?
Samsung Galaxy Tab A (T387AA) - Software Update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (T387AA) - AT&T
Get Samsung Galaxy Tab A (T387AA) support for the topic: Software Update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (T387AA). Find more step-by-step device tutorials on att.com.
www.att.com
ATT is worthless - no support. OTA Android 8 won't update to Android 10. Says already current.
No luck yet :-(
Still no luck.
Someone recently gave me a SM-T387AA, came across this thread while looking for the latest firmware for the device. It does appear that T387AAUCS3CUD1 is the latest for the AA version, which I also was unable to locate. (probably because ATT uses their own servers for firmware instead of samsung) However, while searching, I also came across a newer version of firmware for SM-T387W.
Specifically:
AP VERSION T387WVLS3CVK2
CSC VERSION T387WOYV3CVK2
CSC VTR (Canada)
ANDROID VERSION Q(Android 10)
SIZE 2.62 GB Full Files
MD5 d3b07faf990e6b33b55f5f39839799e4
BUILD DATE 20221114152111
SECURITY PATCH LEVEL 2022-06-01
To my surprise, I flashed the 387W firmware on my 387AA with ODIN and everything seems to be working just fine. Still can't unlock my bootloader though. I see there's also a 387R4 variant. I might try that next, and will report back if I do.
Would this not though prevent a user from being able to use it on AT&T?

I popped in an ATT sim and calls/txt appear to be working.
Oh interesting, I wonder what the difference between the two firmware versions are then?

I used Bifrost. It can pull the latest firmware for most samsung devices that are hosted on samsung servers. Type in the model, "SM-T387W" and the CSC, "VTR", check for update and then download.
Bifrost link: https://github.com/zacharee/SamloaderKotlin
