Hi there,
I got the brillant idea to flash a custom ROM. I needed to update my TWRP to do so. So that's what I did (with the official version for potter)
Fantastic.
I've NEVER been able to decrypt and mount my damned partitions since that. I also tried to downgrade my TWRP, nothing.
I then factory resetted with fastboot, encryption is still there... Waoh amazing.
I really don't know how to get rid of this ****. I just want to wipe everything, including this encryption (I probably don't even remember the password)
Does anyone know how to do that ?
Please.
I got International version by the way.
EDIT : I successfuly went without needed password with this version : http://149.56.164.10:1990/moto/twrp_3.1.1-0_potter.zip
I don't understand why. Like, it's encrypted but this version doesn't care about it ???
Well, it's solved.
After wiping everything with the older version, I flashed the new one using fastboot. Then after it asked me for a password, I went for "Cancel" then "Wipe" then "Format data".
Doesn't need a password anymore. Damn

Hi Guys,
Yesterday i wanted to enable my company email in my Samsung S4 at&t (SGH-I337) mobile. It said, it has to encrypt the mobile to enable email.
I said "Yes", for that. Then after the reboot it said it failed to encrypt the device, and asked me to reset the phone. After i reset the phone it started asking for encryption password... Even if i give the correct password it was not accepting the password. After "Nine" attempts, it said it is going to erase the phone to factor defaults, and rebooted the phone. After the reboot it is still asking for the password, but the moment i enter the password it will reboot.
Finally i decided to write the stock ROM using the odin. Then i downloaded "AP_I337UCUEMK2_1921628_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5" from the web. After few attempts i was able to write this ROM on the flash.... but when i try to boot this it says "Device memory damaged" + "The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your device to factory defaults....".. I tried to format the data partition from recovery multiple times, but it is of no help.
Anybody has any idea on why the device thinks the data partition is corrupted?
I know nothing about how to solve encryption issues. I'm not sure why you have the data partition issue, but I have a guess. You didn't say what version of the OS you were on before you tried to flash the MK2 stock firmware, but if you were on a later version and later bootloader, then you may have a bootloader incompatibility. If your phone was already on 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 or 5.0.1, then you couldn't go back to MK2. I think you should flash stock NB1 and see if that solves the problem. You can get everything you need here.
[unnecessary background information] A while back I decided to encrypt my OnePlus 2 - mostly to compare its performance with my Nexus 6P, which is also (obviously) encrypted. Today I decided I was tired of Oxygen OS and wanted to install CM13 since Grarak had gotten the fingerprint scanner working properly. I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP 3.0.0.2, and excitedly flashed the shiny new OS (without making a backup, like an idiot)[/]
After booting up into CM13 the system asks me for my encryption key (sure, whatever) and then I get this big screen that says "Decryption Unsuccessful....The password that you entered is correct but unfortunately your data is corrupt" and goes on to say that a factory reset will fix the problem and any lost data can be re-downloaded from the cloud. I said "great!" and hit the "reboot now" button that reboots back into TWRP, runs a short script, and sends me back to where I started (presumably not on purpose).
Now, I tried doing a full wipe of the entire device via TWRP, which sent me into a new panic mode when I couldn't manage to get any files to transfer over when I tried to send them over MTP - I finally went about using the ADB Sideload feature in TWRP to once again install the same (and a different) ROM all of which garnered the same result.
Finally, the point of the story: Is there a way for me to fully remove encryption from the system from within TWRP? If not, am I totally hosed or does someone have another idea? Frankly, I'd be happy to just have a booting phone at this point.
Thanks in advance!!
So following up on my own thread, I found the setting in TWRP that specifically allows you to erase the data partition (something that I thought I had done when I did a standard wipe and/or when I did the advanced wipe and specifically told it to wipe everything) and rebooted and it finally booted happily into Android. I'm not sure if this is a bug in TWRP or a bug in CM's script that is causing issues but something isn't quite right.
I've got an issue where I can't flash rom's in TWRP because the phone's been magically encrypted that can't be undone with any useful passwords. I've searched google for solutions and besides a wipe/reformat, it looks like all other alternatives have not been helpful. I've removed any passwords/pins, set new passwords/set a new pins, flashed different versions of TWRP and even tried "default_password" as a possibility but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else run into this and resolved without going to the nuclear option?
Btw, on a related note...if I reformat or wipe my phone in twrp, does that mean the entire SD is wiped clean of everything or is just the "data" such as personal folders, settings and apps removed?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
everything is wiped, like a clean flash. I had the same issue so I did the wipe, after that everything else worked fine. Also, removed encryption after first boot so this wont happen again
Try the navigator TWRP.
V6 (3.0.3) : https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B9ZMWt4u_wSDVkp3UlMxS1liMUE&export=download
V7 (3.1.0) : https://mega.nz/#!YMojxQgI!Pa1kh_p2dRwTMdPPG-xEpCGeVdtqMvritlp8cH9zpp8
(MTP doesn't work on v7)

Quick Question: after the full wipe, how did you remove the encryption? I'm rooted, TWRP installed, LineageOS installed, and everything is running fine, but i cant update/flash roms without a USB OTG cable and a flash drive at this point. Whenever i boot into recovery, it asks for a decryption password. I'm willing to wipe, i just dont know how to kill the encryption afterwards.

When you wipe it will delete everything including the encryption password
Hello.
Today I restarted the phone in TWRP to wipe cache. It did not accepted my password, although I remembered it correctly. I tried to enter the ROM, but it still didn't accept it. After many many tries, I succeeded in entering the rom. Googled about this and someone said
Simply boot into TWRP and enter your PIN (if you've set one) to decrypt the stroage. If you don't have TWRP (for whatever reason) you can do so via ADB too but ONLY if you've connected your phone to your PC beforehand and also accepted it's fingerprint on the phone itself.
Delete (or rename) the following files inside /data/system (note that probably not all of them exist for you, simply delete those you can find):
password.key
pattern.key
locksettings.db-wal
locksettings.db-shm
locksettings.db
Reboot the phone and (if you've set a PIN) enter it to decrypt the storage one more time. After that you can simply unlock your phone with a swipe.
Go into Settings > Security and set your preferred unlock method again, Android will ask you if you want to set a boot-time code too. Select whatever you want here, it's a nice security addition but can be annoying sometimes.
Enjoy your phone again!

I did that, but now when I enter the rom, it just shows the wallpaper with nothing on it. If I try to enter TWRP, it asks for a password and my old one does not work. I wanted to flash the rom via TWRP, but everything is encrypted. Tried installing the custom recovery to flash from the sd card, but the files or still encrypted.
What can I try next? I really really dont wan't to format everything, as I have lots of files and photos on the phone. Thanks!!

If you are able to get into the phone, then go in and remove your security, pin / password etc.
I'm hazarding a guest that you decrypted your device and now you're stuck like this ?
You may have to format data, not a wipe, a format.
Not sure if the OnePlus has a safe mode but that should enable you to get into the OS and make the needed changes in security then go to twrp and you should be good to go.
Are you able to see your data when connected to a computer? IE when your phone boots ? Get your data backed up.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Ok have a ZTE Axon 7 can't flash any thing because of it instantly encryption and I get recovery and then game over any one have a Cure for this......... thanks in advance.
You have to do a factory wipe, to remove encryption. Then when setting up the phone again when it prompts you to set a security pin or finger sprints skip that part.

Tried that and it didn't work.....it doesn't matter what I flash stock ROMs tell me my password is correct but memory is corrupt and need to be wiped and when I flash a custom ROM it doesn't boot just two flashes of the led and that's it.
Which TWRP recovery are you on?
What I mean by Factory reset is a full Factory wipe your whole internal is erased. It is like a clean slate new phone.
You should have all the necessary files for your flash on your sd card there is an option to select storage to flash from there.
So when I first swapped from Stock Nougat to AEX I was encrypted on 5/4 ROM my internal was locked by encryption and could only dirty flash roms. it was annoying so I factory wiped and flashed latest AEX from there and didn't set up security right away so no encryption.
I realised my TIBU back ups were all on internal so had to basically start from scratch oops lol.
It is a little outdated now with the official Oreo roms but user @Oki 's guide helped me a lot and has clear steps and guides to get you all rooted and sorted on custom roms.

Ok now got the thing back was able to reunlock the bootloader and installed recovery flashed candy rom with one issue could not mount system so now just flashed Oreo stock rom so all good again....... thanks for the help
The stock ROM encrypts by default, and formatting data partition in twrp is the only way to remove it. But to prevent the encryption before it happens, you have a few options:
1. If you dont plan to root, flash @jcadduono's no verity opt encrypt zip (Google it)
2. Magisk and SuperSU can optionally disable encryption before it happens. Magisk Manager has a config option if you're installing from the app. You can use Aroma SuperSU config if SuperSU is your root method of choice.
Hope that helped!
I would like to note that AOSP/Lineage/CM-based ROMs dont encrypt by default. though Im sure it could be enabled if you wanted to. This seems to be unique to the stock ROMs, mainly because Google insists that phone OEMs should go for higher security by enabling encryption as the default.
