Dual SIM card - change "mobile data" provider based on location - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I use two SIM cards (different provider) in my OnePlus 5.
I can change which provider will be used for mobile data in "Sim & Networks -> Mobile data" and it works as it should.
But it is annoying to do this many times a day because each provider has its pros and cons locations
How can I automate this based on location? I spend some minutes in Tasker, but I didn't find mentioned setting.

Can't believe

Here I go again ...
I tried with Tasker and I create a task where I use "Settings -> Custom Settings -> Find" and showed Tasker a provider change. Tasker recognized it and saved that in a task. So far so good.
But if I run a task (manually or with profile), a value in a dialog is changed, but the provider isn't changed. After the task, I tried with (manually) disable/enable mobile connection, but it also didn't help. Phone still uses an old provider.
But if I open dialog and just press again on (already correctly selected provider from Tasker), the phone will change the provider.
Any idea? Should I do something more to tell the phone that value in a dialog is changed?

Disable Data and stay off!

I do not have Data on my contract (orange) and am quite happy using Wifi at home and work, but I find my phone likes to switch over when it feels like it to HSDPA etc.
In options I switch data to off but my phone likes to overide this! I have to race to switch it off to avoid an enhanced monthly bill!
Does anyone know how to stop this?
Thanks
Your phone will use which ever is giving the best signal - I would imagine wifi by default...
Or Try app like NoDate
omg, this is the zillion time when somebody ask that question
why don't you use the search option? as somebody said, "search is your friend".
ok, i will write here what can you do, beside use nodata or other application
maybe a mod can add it to wiki...
so:
settings-connections-connections-advanced-select networks
go to "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet..."
on the pop up menu chose each option that includes your phone network operator (in my case is Orange and one of the options looks like "Orange Internet") - edit - proxy settings and here uncheck the box "This network connects to the Internet"
repeat the procedure for each option that has your operator name included
a soft reset may be recomended but not absolutely necessary!
after that the network icon (G or E or whatever) will be gray and no data transmission will be allowed. if it is not grey, then your settings are not right.
et voila! There you are!
good luck!

Internet Access

I bought an Htc magic today and I am having trouble trying to find out how to disable the automatic connection to internet by GPRS. Can somebody help me?
Hello. Good question. Took me a little to find it. I actually have a widget that I can turn the GRS off and on anytime. Its a Battery Widget. Very handy. However to answer your issue from the dashboard "homescreen"
click MENU > SETTINGS > SECURITY&LOCATION > Then uncheck Enable GPS
lol zelda, not GPS, GPRS....2 totally different animals.
cunha11 i would delete out your apn info. it can be found under
settings-> wireless and networks --> mobile networks --> access point names
some people have reported that apn info will get re-filled in upon reboot but i think that may be carrier dependent.
so just click on your access point and delete all the fields available..
give that a shot
edit: forgot there is an app called apndroid in the market, give that a try
LOL sorry, my bad. I misread that. I read these forums at work in between Service requests. HEH. looks like he got it though.

[Q] URL access denied due to local filter list configuration

I have an HD2 (australian -Telstra NextG) 1.72.841.0 WWE Rom.
Works fine with the Telstra Sim and Data access is fine.
I'm setting up with an alternate sim - "Roaming Sim" (Sim with UK based number and data) so I can ease the roaming costs when I travel outside Australia.
New Sim works fine on voice calls, but there is a block when I try to access data.
The following message is displayed ...
Message ID:
FILTER_DENIED
Problem Description
Your system was configured to deny access to this URL.
Possible Problem Cause
Request denied, as specified in the local filter list configuration.
Possible Solution
Contact your network support team if this problem persists.
Data connection is fine with the Telstra Sim, but with the alternate sim and settings the above block stops any data access.
Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks
who is the sim with in the uk?
Settings -> All Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks -> Edit (if you already have the details) or New (if you don't) for the data connection for the SIM. Make sure that all the settings are correct for the new SIM (you can easily find them with a search of the internet).

The sim is marketed under the name "Roaming Sim" - for international travel - I believe it is an Irish based company, but the number is +44 prefix so a UK based number.
Their help desk was not very helpful "there is money in your account so things should work properly" and "no-one here has a HTC HD2, so we don't know what to suggest".
Thanks.

Thanks for the trail of where to change the settings - I've set the sim up as per their meager info and I've checked their web site for any info on the problem I'm having - nothing specific to assist there.
On a web search I found mention of a similar error message related to PCs and it was pointing to Proxy setting issues, but there are no Proxy Setting in Cellular Line (GPRS) setup (in setting up the APN for this sim).
I've also done a google of the exact error message in quotes and come up with no listings, hence me coming to the gurus at xda.

No I've checked that with supplier and Data is enabled with the sim.
I've contacted the Australian supplier of the sim and I'm waiting on their tech guru to phone me to try and work through the problem. I'll post if/when I get some resolution.
But don't let that stop you guys from having a go - so far the sim supplier's technical assistance has been very pleasant, but less than actually helpful at resolving the problem.

ok made sure you got the correct internet settings in the phone?
Thanks for the assistance - I have discovered the problem - it was me (obviously).
When I set up the New Network Settings I did not select Proxy settings and therefore did not check "This network connects to the internet".
If you do this (as above) then save - you can't come back to fix the error because you are not offered the Proxy Settings tab if the box wasn't checked on setup.
I've now set up a New network setting, (with Proxy- This network - checked) and I can now access data and URLs.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out, perhaps this might assist another nooby down the track.

Restart network with ADB commands

On OP5 we have dual SIM. I use two SIMs from two providers and I want to change only default mobile data provider when I'm on a specific location.
I tried with:
Code:
adb shell settings put global multi_sim_data_call 2
If I check with
Code:
adb shell settings get global multi_sim_data_call
, I get value 2. I have checked also on phone (Settings -> SIM & Network -> Mobile data) and it really changed. So command works.
BUT - the phone still shows and uses the previous setting.
Any idea how to force the phone to restart network or something similar?

Why not using the quick settings toggle on oos for changing data sim? Or do you use another rom?

My main idea is changing a data SIM with Tasker. My first provider has bad coverage in my valley and I want to change it automatically.
On the other hand - I'm on OOS, but how do you mean using the quick settings toggle? Can I (at least) create a shortcut for this settings? I didn't find that.

You need to add this toggle to your quick settings menu
Tnx. This should be good enough for now. I don't know how I missed this icon.
Well, maybe I thought that this will change default SIM card for calling and SMS, but it works as I want - just change default "mobile data".

Disable Mobile data on SECOND SIM

Hi there,
Seen many posts online, folks explaining how to do it and some ROMs have it, question, does anyone see a clear way of disabling ONLY MOBILE/DATA on 2ND SIM? It seems the enable is for BOTH SIMs... best I could find is use a dummy data-plan, and set the quota to 1MB or smaller value, trying to figure if there's a way to totally shutdown only mobile data, not the actual SIM, so it does not attempt connection (plan-b I've seen folks editing the APN with rubbish, prefer not to go there if possible)..
Thanks for any ideas..
Stormy.
OK, FIGURED This out. This answer is specific to MIUI ROM it might work on other similar devices to 7A..
Two options:
1) Settings-> "SIM Cards & Mobile networks" > "Set data plan" > "Data PLAN" (for SIM2), then in "Peak data limit" set to 1KB, in "When data plan is used up" set "Warn and turn off mobile data" go back one screen, in "Enter data usage" type "10GB", this will automatically EXCEED the limit, and block access to mobile.
second option is:
2) Open the Security Center app, main page will show things to fix, there is a "plugin" named: com.miui.securityadd ("Security service plugin") , however on the security center app the name is not printed, it's an icon of a DROP of WATER, on mine it's second from top on right side, click that then you get the mobile data top-level GUI view.
click "Restrict data usage", under mobile data, check the TOP sim2, the warning "Restrict sim2 mobile data connection from all apps", and clicking restrict will block all apps from sim2/mobile.. there is also a "default apps access" if u really want to account for future apps..
now u know how to disable, only hope you can remember how to REENABLE should the need arise
hopefully will help someone..
Stormy.
