Need Help with rooting MOTO G4 - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

Currently my device doesn't support USB debugging, file transfer etc. for some weird reason. Hence, decided to reset it to factory settings and then root it. It is updated to the latest version (Nougat). Kindly help me by laying out detailed steps to root my phone and install custom roms (preferable OREO) so IMEI and other functionalities won't be lost. Also, kindly guide me how to take proper precaution like backing up stock rom and other settings, in case something goes wrong and I need to unbrick the device. TIA

Sadly, still can not access any menu from notification area, and hence no USB debugging

G900F temp root solotion in lollipop?

Dear esteemed experts,
I’m hoping you can assist in my hour of need: My partner has a stock unrooted European G900F S5, which unfortunately had a massive software glitch causing it to crash on start up. Long story short we managed to get to the factory reset options and do a full reset, which cured the problem, however my partner’s data has now been lost.
She regularly backed up and had all the autobackups enabled so contacts, sms, mms, pics, videos, settings, etc were all restored with relative ease, but it appears the most valuable thing to her, her WhatsApp conversation backups were stored by Whatsapp on the internal memory rather than the SD card (brilliant piece of software design going on there) so they are gone. Smart Switch restored all of the other WhatsApp data on the internal memory as part of its “data” backup but not the backup files…
I’d like to run a data recovery program to see if they can be recovered, but am hitting dead ends at every turn: none of the specialist android recovery programs (such as dr fone) appear to work on a lollipop S5 unless it is rooted; none of the usual PC recovery suites can work on MTP or PTP modes and a mass storage connection is no longer possible (at least without root); and the only way to permanently root is to downgrade the stock rom (which will likely overwrite the data I am trying to recover) and use something like towel root on KitKat. In any event, she’s very happy with an unrooted phone with OTA updates and so wouldn’t wish to end up with a rooted phone anyway, so I’d have no real interest in a custom bootloader install, etc: I just want temporary access for dr fone!
To that end, I wondered if there was by any chance a crafty way of obtaining a temporary root in lollipop (a re-root after restart is absolutely fine by me) just so I can run a recovery program and see if we get any luck? If it came to it I think she’d be prepared to sacrifice a knox trip if she got her conversations back….
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I could only fish out advice on permanent rooting for s5 in my searches (both here and on google).
Many thanks for your assistance!
Dav
No way to root lollipop without tripping KNOX if you are not willing to downgrade to KitKat first, which would defeat the object as you could root with towelroot then anyway
Only way to root Lollipop is to flash CF Auto Root with ODIN, which WILL trip KNOX, and it is permanent unless you choose to unroot / flash stock again
This is the file you need to flash with ODIN (Extract and add it to the AP or PDA section of ODIN with the phone in download mode)

Enabling encryption on a Huawei Y5 II?

I asked this in the newbie thread, but no one has responded, so I'm trying here as well.
I'm not good at this, so apologies if I use the wrong terminology.
The "Encrypt phone" option in the Settings menu on my phone is missing -- according to several posts here, it's disabled by default on Huawei's ROM. Someone suggested to install a third-party Android launcher app. I did so, and gained access to the hidden encrypt phone menu, however, the option (the button) is greyed out.
Would rooting the phone and installing a custom ROM enable an "encrypt phone" option? If so, which method should I use to root it? And which custom ROM should I install? Would replacing the custom Huawei EMUI ROM with the Android 5.0 Lollipop stock ROM be helpful for enabling the option, for example?
How can I tell whether the phone is possibly already encrypted?
Some forum posts mention connection the phone via USB to my computer (Windows 7) and somehow, via a terminal command, force an encryption process. Does anyone know how to do that?
Data about the phone:
Model: HUAWEI CUN-L21
Version: CUN-L21C577B115, Android 5.1, EMUI 3.1
Let me know if you need more information. I'd be so grateful for any advice!

I believe you can try this:
https://www.jethrocarr.com/2013/12/29/encrypting-disk-on-android-4/
But probably they disabled encryption on your device because it will become very slow after encryption, but on the other hand you should be able to revert it quite easily, as long as you don't mind to restore your phone to factory settings.
Please let me know if this works for you

[SOLVED (Factory Reset)] Failed Root Attempt - Will not boot past SAMSUNG boot logo

As the title implies, I've failed in my attempt to root my S7 Edge. I can access the custom download tool as well as the TWRP tool that I installed via Odin. However, I have no SD card and my attempts to use ADB have been unsuccessful. Right now I am looking for an option to reset my device to factory settings. I don't care about my previous data, as this is a relatively new phone. However, I believe my warranty is voided, and that is why I am posting here.
What are my options at this point? If it helps, a micro SD is arriving via Amazon tomorrow afternoon. Ultimately, I'd like to be able to install a custom ROM or root my existing Nougat that I started with (my original intention).
As for how the process may have failed, the tutorial I watched didn't seem to make it clear that I had to enable USB debugging. I enabled OEM Unlock, but not USB Debugging. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :good:
EDIT: Smart Switch does not support the device for emergency recovery. I really think I messed up my phone
EDIT 2: After suddenly disconnecting during the download process of a fresh firmware via sammobile, I restarted the device to reach an error screen telling me to use Smart Switch Emergency recovery. However, my device was not supported. Following a guide online, I clicked on the More tab at the top right corner of the Smart Switch program and chose "Emergency software recovery and initialization". I entered the relevant information for my device and the recovery process began (fingers crossed). After it has completed, I am now once again booting my factory firmware. I'll leave this post here because I couldn't find a similar post on the first couple pages of the forum or with the search function.
Now, can anyone direct me to a proper beginners' guide to rooting the S7 Edge? I'm fresh off of iOS, which I've used and been jailbreaking for the past nine years. I thought it would only slightly more complex, but I see due to the many different versions of the same device, rooting can be quite tricky.
Edit 3: New question which I can't find the answer to anywhere... Do you need an SD card to root? I'm resetting my phone for the second time now. Got a boot loop after using ADB sideloader to install supersu.
Where did you get the stock firmware? I have the unlocked sm-g935u... made an unbelievable stupid mistake and my three day old s7 edge is partly functional (only bare essentials), but whatever I did before wasn't wiped when I did a factory wipe so my phone thinks it's rooted even though it most certainly is not. (And many features and apps won't work bc of it. )
I can't find anything useful about theNougat firmware. I'm really desperate. My company bought me this and i broke it within a week. :'(

Killed P9 Lite instead of getting back to live, maybe there is a last chance?

Hello, short Story before. I got a full Hand of non working mobile phones because being full of a hell of viruses.
5pcs. younger ones.
2 Huaweis and 3 Samsungs.
Well so far 4 PCs. are saved.
Getting into the phone wasn´t possible anymore. Data not important so I resettet over the Buttons to original Status. -> Worked fine.
But one Piece which is a Huawei P9 Lite guess it is a single sim? was the button method not possible cause it wanted a Software update and Installation of WLAN failed (EMUI)
Getting into the phone for any informations was also not possible because of all the viruses and not working right ahead anymore.
Well ok -> will use High Suite for stock Firmware -> this mobile phone is not supported and also couldn´t activate MTP as I am not in the phone. So far.
Next Idea -> ok. will take the C900B300 and go back to Marshmallow. From original HUAWEI site.
Took the European Version in German. Did it over EMUI (hold 3 Buttons) and worked so far but when I turned on I was stucking on the WIFI+. Even pressing the button -> further nothing anymore. So I thought -> maybe another stockfirmware useful.
Again C900B300 and then I think I did the big mistake. Took out the sdcard during it was rebooting (HUAWEI was already visible) and now it is big crap. Stucks at HUAWEI. Turning off not possible. This EMUI is not possible anymore. Just with a trick I am able to get into fastboot. Yeah. But what then? Reading TRWP which I know from Samsungs but putting it on with ODIN. ODIN doesn´t work with Huawei. Do I Need TRWP to get it back to normal Firmware? Mobile phone was never customized or anyhting else. just normal stock was on it and is the wish to get a clean back. Resetting to factory was not possible anymore.
So my questions, even I know it is my fault. Any rescue possible?
What could be the best stock Firmware. I Guess it is a single sim from Austria unlocked and unbranded. Would also take Nougat again. Just wanted to get it back to normal working and now I guess I have a big letter holder. Model from the backside is VNS-L31. More I don´t have.
Thanks a lot for any help for my being an idiot. Samsungs are much more easier than HUAWEIs.
Blimey mate,
This really just boil down to what partitions were damaged in your case- Most likely your system and data,
however since you are still Technically running unmodified emui you could manage to sort of salvage it.
The logic is this:
Most custom roms for the p9 lite build on top of emui (patching the system image) rather than replacing it (like the way samsung smartphones do)- so you could flash the rom, it would wipe your phone clean of viruses in the process and then proceed to do a hard restore back to emui.
1.) get your phone into fastboot and flash this twrp http://www.meticulus.co.vu/p/forum.html#nabble-td27
2.) Then flash this rom : http://www.meticulus.co.vu/p/ressurection-remix-for-hi6250-devices.html MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS SITE VERY CAREFULLY
3.)Follow this guide to do a hard restore https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/how-to/tips-revert-custom-rom-to-official-t3668413
good luck!!! if you have any questions hit me up!
Hi
Hi Exiatron00,
thanks a lot for your maybe solution way. Will do it this evening after work and come back.
Hopefully it works cause as mentioned in other threads -> don´t think that the original owner opened the Debugging so that I can work over a tool. FRP locked is in fastboot. This was already mentioned in other posts which I have read here in the forums.
Thanks for your step by step explanation. Will do it. Hopefully it works. I am really pissed of my own that i was unpatient with the sdcard. That´s a mistake which shouldn´t happen. Anyway it did. So i will try to do everything to get back working again. I am from IT so I am not such a DAU but newbie with HUAWEIs. Most are Samsungs.
Will give Feedback.

If u need to transfer files , just boot into twrp (it has built in mtp support) , then transfer the file from ur PC to phone via a micro us b cable.
If you are unable to fix the phone I do actually have a FULL twrp backup of my phone (EMUI 5- single sim Europe VNS- L31 C432B370) hit me up if u want it.
Hi,
well adb for flashing not working as device not found. Hi Suite installed. Guess that the USB Debugging is not enabled. hrmpf.
There is a similar thread of somebody with no enabled USB Debugging.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/fastboot-recovery-remotely-enable-usb-t2177440
He writes an solution how to enable in fast boot mode with using N4 toolkit.
Search for a p9 lite toolkit and found this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...nt/europe-vns-l31-toolkit-bootloader-t3432873
may could work?
Big **** -> as Long as USB Debugging is not enabled as Long I am not able to Flash TWRP over adb.
If I connect to PC Hi Suite opens automatically. So driver should be fine as pc recognize the phone.
hm?
Got it working somehow

Hi Exiatron00,
got it working somehow!!!!
Bought a 3 day licence for DC Phoenix where you are able to put Firmware even in fastboot with FRB lock and no USB Debugging on.
So I got the IMEI and Fitting Version which is a L11.
Downloaded it original from Huawei as I still want a original stock Rom not customized which was
HUAWEI P9 Lite Firmware (VNS-L11, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1, C432B161, WEU) only wokring one.
BUT the big Problem is that the apk Android System Web View is missing in the ROM. A known Problem by HUAWEI. Yeah now I am stucking in the Setup wizard like this guy who mentioned also the solution whell the reason of this Problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...stuck-initial-setup-upgrade-to-t3498097/page2
So my question now. How do I get the apk on the phone still no USB Debugging? Does anyone have this Version original incl. this apk? Maybe an img. from a running working System?
Only way I am able to put the Firmware on is DC-Phoenix. It is valid still two days. Maybe someone can help me? Please?
So an Image of VNS-L11, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1, C432B161, WEU incl. Android System Web View, so that I can go ahead and use the phone again please?
Thanks a lot.
Kind Regards.

A bunch of questions about rooting SM-G975F/DS

I just got an SM-G975F/DS ~ seems like the Taiwan version.
My current issues:
Can't disable emergency alerts!!!
Can't clear voicemail notification from tray. Infuriating.
No hosts file override (need this for app development & Adaway)
Samsung bloatware
I don't give a f*ck about Knox or Samsung Pay but I like the stock camera so I have a few questions about the root process.
First it seems like this is the process just to have root in with Stock ROM. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
For randoms reading this: THIS WILL NOT WORK ON USA Snapdragon VERSION
Enable OEM Unlock from developer menu.
Boot into download mode (Plug in PC connected USB cable while holding Bixsby Button + Vol Down)
Unlock bootloader by pressing volume up and confirming (not actually unlocked yet due to Samsung trickery)
Quick setup OS with Internet connectivity knowing it's gonna be wiped again.
At this point Samsung's Vaultkeeper service should detect OEM unlock and finally actually unlock the bootloader.
Install Magisk with this guide.
So it seems like this process would patch just the AP partition with Odin while keeping the ROM and Recovery stock.
So here's the questions.
If I continue to run stock ROM with Magisk with this method any official OTA updates must be done manually or I risk bricking the device?
If I install TWRP and try out some roms and don't like them can I go back to stock?
Is it possible to flash stock rom WITHOUT Magisk after doing all this?
I plan on writing some simple guides on this when I'm done since the current ones are a bit confusing so I would appreciate some clear and concise answers the the above questions.
Thanks all!
