mobile data tethering - portable wifi hotstop turning off - YotaPhone

hi does anyone know how to keep the portable wifi hotspot on !!!
I recently was travelling back in my car which had the MOBILE DATA on and TETHERED to my car sat nav for LIVE traffic updates and speed camera locations, but after about 30 mins te PORTABLE WI-FI hotspot switches off???
....so no live updates for the rest of the journey -- approx 2 hours
I don't know if this is something to do with being in a bad mobile network coverage area or a setting within the phone?
android 6.0.1
advanced wi-fi setting - keep wifi on during sleep ON
display sleep after 30mins? - max and don't know if this has any effect
screen will never sleep while charging ON
I have searched the internet but cannot find any relevant help or any apps which could prevent the timeout (lots for screen time out)
thanks for any help
kevin

I use my Yotaphone as an Internet modem, with the hot-spot running for for a long time (months now) .
I haven't experienced your issue, but use Tasker to turn om WiFi hot-spot every hour or so.

Thanks for your reply - will have a look at using tasker (but not sure if you need a rooted phone)

No need for root when using Tasker for hot-spot. [emoji846]

Running on Android 6 and Android 8
# Task
Net > WiFi Tether > On
# Profile
Depends really on your usecase. You could have a timer profile that runs every 15 minutes or so that runs the task above.

once again thanks for your prompt reply. I have put the task values in (think that was simple enough)
the profile I set a timer for 5 minutes from now 5 pm to 8 pm because it appears to be switched off around 10 minutes to see if it worked
at 5 pm I got a dialogue box "can modify system settings" tasker - allow modify system settings with the slider button on? & I now have a notification saying no active profiles? after 5 pm - tasker is on in the settings and profile slider switch is on? AND HOTSPOT STILL SWITCHED OFF -GRRRRRR android
don't know what else I can do at the moment?
thanks

Start with the task only first.
With the hot-spot off, try running the task itself in Tasker using the play button.
When the task itself is working you can try working on the profile.

hi
think you got me there. had to change the profile time edit to every 2 minutes (smallest repeat value)because the hotspot was switching off after ten minutes then I would have to wait for a further 5 for tasker to work
notification still says no active profile but guess it's not actually running for long ie only looks/operates at the 2-minute intervals?
once again thank you for your help -- cheers

Really weird though that the hot-spot is turning itself off.
Have you checked in the settings that you don't have a timeout?

hopefully, settings checked ---
wifi keep on during sleep - always (if applicable?)
display sleep - 30minutes max after activity
cannot see anything else that might apply (nothing in the tethering & portable hotspot section)

This little application won't allow your Pocket PC to go to sleep.
Ever got frustrated when you are connected to Wifi and you get disconnected because your device goes to sleep mode? Then this application is for you.
Just launch DontSleep and either click on CLOSE to exit the application or HIDE to use it.
download DontSleep:

because you don't want to have to go into settings everytime you want to use wifi. and you don't want to leave your settings at 30 minutes because it's a waste of power when NOT using wifi.
it is really useful to me!

Actually, that's a great idea. It would be nice to prevent sleep (or perhaps extend the timeout a bit) whilst particular applications are active (web browsing, photos/video, ebook reading), but allow sleep when none of these have focus (i.e. may be minimised). It is annoying when you are reading a book, get distracted for a minute, then turn back to find your phone is off and locked
great idea kwill. but that would mean DontSleep should always be running in the background to monitor the running applications. i'll try to figure this out.

without killing Wifi? i'll test it
well, im glad you all found that thought useful (now im 1 for 2 on the day) is there a way to add exceptioned apps that way dontsleep knows which app is being used and then invokes itself and then closes itself when the corresponding app is exited? im no programmer or dev., just going about it logically and as easily as possible.
Would you be able to upload files to xda? Cant download from rapidshare!
Also Would you be bale to make similar application that runs in background and while this application is running device will auto suspend(backlight off) in 10sec or pre-defined time. THX
here you go NotLutzik.
i was thinking of having the application monitor the idle time (when there is no activity by the user) and at a predefined time, will suspend it's "dontsleep" function. but this would mean the app should always be running in the background, which will then consume more battery juice.
any thoughts on this?
Thx.I dont use wifi but it will be usefull for browsing and ebooks .
Iam driving alot and with sprint phones everytime they switch to different tower backlight will go on and it takes usually a min for it to go off. While Iam driving 70mph on parkway it happenes like every 3-5 mins so Iam looking for some solution to that.
let me get this straight. your problem is you don't want the glare that comes with the turning on of your phone's backlight everytime it switches to another tower?
Yes on 70mph it happenes every 3-5 mins!
So lets say during that time i want to run a program that will make my backlight go off in 10 sec instead of regular backlight timeout (1min) .
Not only glare but it killing battery too !!
won't you get speeding tickets at that speed?
will an application that completely turns off the backlight while it is running work for you? i'm not sure if i can code one but i'll try.

[Tasker][Help] My profiles/apps - Share your own!

Scott's Tasker Thread
So I watched the XDA videos Kevin (tech ninja) made and I thought "damn. I gotta get that." So I bought it and I've been loving it since. Saves me tons of battery life and makes using things like Google navigation easier. Keeps my phone in check.
So check mine out and please share what you make too.
XDA TV Tasker videos: Basics - Intermediate - Advanced
---------------------------------
My profiles
---------------------------------
Make a shortcut for Google Navigation that turns on GPS before and off after to save battery.
Make a new profile, name it Navigation.
Select Application
Select Navigation
Hit back
New task, name it Navi: Off
Add action, Misc > GPS
Leave it alone, its set to Off. Hit back twice
Now that the profile is made, change the task you just made to the Exit task. Its currently the main task,
Go to the tasks tab and make a new task, name it Navigation
Add an action, Misc > GPS > On. Hit back to save.
Add an action, Task > Wait > set it to 5ms (milliseconds)
Add an action. App > Load App > Navigation. Hit back to save.
Exit Tasker and on your launcher screen make a new shortcut, Tasker Task > select the task you made earlier named Navigation
You'll need to select an icon in the lower right corner, click the icon and select whatever you want as an icon. Once you've set an icon back out of it and test your new widget.
Note: Since we made a rule for the Navigation application whenever it exits its going to turn GPS off from now on. You could also add Maps to the same rule if wanted.

Some of my most useful profiles include using a plugin to turn my screen off if I place the phone face down or in my pocket, one that will start and stop speakerphone based on how close the phone is to my face, and I also make use of cyanogen profiles when connected to certain wifi or bluetooth. There's others but that is just a couple that come to mind.

Swipe Up From Home Button to Lock Screen -- Sharing what I discovered...

The same gesture that you do to get to Google Now can be changed to turning the device/screen off.
Just install this free app called "Screen Off And Lock": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
Then swipe up from Home (like you would to get to Google Now) and it'll ask you to set a new default:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Grant it permissions, and now, every time you swipe up from Home, you can lock your screen/device from anywhere! Great for those who don't want to overuse the power button, and for those who obviously don't use Google Now like that.
To get rid of it, just go to "Screen Off and Lock" app in your App settings and Clear Defaults (or just uninstall the app).
Just thought I'd share.
Thank you! I love the apps like this.
love it, if only i can swipe up to turn on

Bricked kernel supports both tap to wake as well as swipe to wake BUT battery train increases by about 2-3x on idle above having it off. It goes from 0.5 to 1% per hour w/o these enabled to 2-3% w/ enabled. These are both customizable (enable/disable) but be aware of the drain.
This is great for one handed operation when you don't want to reposition the phone.
Very cool, just what my N5 was needing!
Thanks for highlighting this app.
This app disabled the double tap to wake function of the bricked kernel. That is unfortunate, because having both of these running in conjunction would make the N5 a 1 handed notification checking, song changing device when its on your desk or table.
EDIT: Just kidding it was disabled for some reason. I had it set to reenable after start up...so I don't know what happened.

Meizu MX5 and push notification issues

I bought them for almost two months and overall satisfied with everything except one thing - push notification issue. This is apply to all apps that owner need to be notified such as LINE, WhatsApp or even Gmail. It would happen around 1-3 minutes after your phone standby. Delay could be from 5 minutes to 15 minutes and more. No "Power saving" and "Wifi sleep" enabled. This was happen a much less when I was with 4..5.2.5A rom and much more when I upgraded to 4.5.2.7A. You could see messages only if you open those app manually most of the times. It was ridiculous
Here are solutions I tried and non of them work so far.
1. Went to Security --> Permissions --> Set "LINE" / "Google Services Framework" / "Google Account Manage" as auto restart.
2. above + Went to Security --> Power Saving --> Set "LINE" available to run while idle. Two setting simultaneously and still not work.
3. above two + lock "LINE" application to work on background. Three combination still doesn't ring a bell.
4. Roll back to 4.5.2.4A / 4.5.2.2A / 4.5.2.1A and still the same. (4.5.2.5A has been merged by Meizu developer so non available for download at the time.)
5. Try install almost every Launcher, every notification apps and even "push notification fixer" (for non-root) and still the same.
Do you have any idea or recommendation for a custom rom or a custom fix for this issue?
Hi.
I have just the same issue with recently bought Meizu M2 mini: Hangouts, Skype, Gmail - no notifications.... It's really frustrating
I have never had notification problems with M2 and MX5, this is what I do:
Security App, permission, Launch. Here every app to notify. Google stuff also.
Security app, powersaving. The same
Also this apps blocked in the multitask
Settings, wifi, advanced, wifi sleep disabled
Lock the app in ram via multitasking bar, this will not let the app to turn off.
anyone find a solution to this?

How to enable wifi calling in MM

Marshmallow comes with a new native wifi calling feature, but it's hidden on Moto G3. Here's how to enable it:
Step 1
download and install this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher
Step 2
run the app and click the pull-down menu up top. choose "all apps"
scroll to settings and expand the list. scroll down to wifi calling:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Long press the wifi calling option and select "create a shortcut"
Step 3
navigate to your home screen and find the new wifi calling icon. click it and turn on wifi calling
Awesome!!! When I go and turn it goes on but going back into shortcut it's off. Any ideas?

we may need root to be able to keep it enabled, or possibly just have it set as on by default with a custom rom.
Out if curiosity I tried this, and got the same thing as well on CM13. As soon as I leave the activation screen it shuts off.

If the features is in your device but hidden, probably... If it's not capable, disabled, or removed, no. All activity launcher does is create a shortcut for an app or activity that's already installed on your device, it doesn't add new features other than its own (to create shortcuts to things).

I have the 3g and on TMobile. They have wifi calling.
Unlike the iPhone that actually has a setting for turning it on and off, the 3g has no such feature. It is a feature of MM. Don't understand if you can turn it on with activity launcher why it doesn't work. Doesn't even stay on. I know with TMobile and the iPhone, first time you turn it on you have to verify your address for 911 purposes. So I guess only certain phones actually support wifi calling, even though MM has it built in.

Yes. Activity launcher does give you the same options on moto g4 play. But wifi calling will not stay on, at least not on stock rom, on metro pcs, which supports wifi calling on branded phones and is included in my plan

Same thing here.
Once the app is closed, it is disabled again.
Many retail mobiles have "Wifi Calling" function but not any menu entry to enable , The APP can check the hidden function and enable it if can use.
