ROM without gapps - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Im really noob in android os so probably my question is not correct (I apologi for this). I want to have an android totaly without google apps. BUT I like samsung home screen, namell Touch Wiz,and I like samsung 5row keyboard. I tried lineage 14 and several custom roms, they more or less nice but this trebuchet and 4 row board really annoyed. So could you suggest any system with Samsung home screen and keyboard but without gapps?

I don't have this variant but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device and variants.

Please Roughly Compare the Stock ROM 4.4 to 6.0.1

Hi,
I have a S5 that is still on 4.4, and I am thinking of upgrading the rom to 6.0.1.
I wish some nice guys in this forum could roughly compare 2 versions.
My S5 is a G900F by the way.
Battery Life. Active and stand-by.
Performance of the internal memory and SD card.
I have some games that create 10k+ small unity3d cache files.
I wonder if f2fs (?) and other improvements on 6.0.1 would speed up game loading noticeably.
Now it takes ~1.5 min to load from game the title screen to the playable game menu.
Any change in the sizes of partitions.
Camera. This is the main reason I do not prefer custom rom.
I remember I have read somewhere that there are some camera-related libraries exclusive to offical rom, so the quality of photos taken with custom roms might be slightly lower.
Any annoying bugs on 6.0.1.
So far the bugs on 4.4 do not border me too much.
Thank you very much!

That's a great question!
If I were to inquire about any new features, for the LineageOS 15.1, i would probably ask one of 2 ways.
1) According to the following information, on the LineageOS Official site, the Lineage team does monitor IRC and Reddit and may answer your question there.
https://www.lineageos.org/community/
2) Try searching the forum for an Unofficial release of LineageOS 15.1 and ask this question in a more "General" way if you don't have that device. The following is just 1 out of many of them.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3591152
There are a good portion of the Official LineageOS Developers that does monitor the XDA Forum but, not all of them since they don't have it announced on their website.
Good Luck!

I apologize then...
I was just providing some options for you in regards to getting a question asked regarding LineageOS features.
Most (not all) features can be accomplished via a traditional App, XPosed Module App or some other forms of tweaking a device.
I do wish you the best of luck!

Update problems N2awifi/Picassowifi

Hello there,
On my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 wifi runs Lineage OS, but unfortunately the build in updater does not work properly with latest TWRP version available for the device (3.1.1-0).
It's possible to download the update, but when I try to install the update, it says "installation error" and nothing happens.
Manual installation via recovery works fine, but it's stressful to update it manually every week.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Have a nice day!

It's not uncommon for either a LineageOS thread not to be posted or the OP Dev not to update a threads title from CyanogenMod to LineageOS...
The following thread is an official CyanogenMod thread that looks, to me, as continuing its discussion for the LineageOS for your device. Don't be afraid to ask for some member guidance within it too.

Not a problem at all!
Just remember that those threads i had provided are all located within the following area of the forum...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-pro-12-10-8
... but, that area is also inclusive for the Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 & 8.4 as well.
Just be sure that you know that whatever it is you're doing is either specific or inclusive to your device.
Good Luck!

Will I get always on display if I install a new ROM?

I'm really new to this, so please bear with me. I rooted my phone a week ago. I was wondering if there was any way of getting an AOD through a new ROM. I haven't installed a new ROM before, so I'm not 100% sure about how it works. Say for example I install the firmware found on the Galaxy S8 (is that even possible?), will I get access to the AOD setting?

This is a difficult question to answer...
The only Firmware ROM's you will be able to install on a Rooted Only Device is either the Stock Firmware or a TW Based Firmware.
Your answer regarding the previous statement SHOULD be a Yes...
If your referring to any of the Custom Firmware ROM's (like LineageOS, crDroid, Resurrection Remix, etc...), you can only install them via a Custom Recovery (like TWRP for example) and that requires the ability to Unlock the Bootloader.
Your answer regarding the previous statement can only be obtained by asking about it within those prospective threads.
Some/All of the Custom Firmware ROM's can/may have one or more bugs that the developers are working on in one way or another that may or may not have a current workaround. This may or may not include the AOD.
This is why its not a very easy question to answer, specifically, in a "Generalized/Encompassing" way.
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
Good Luck!

UNLESS asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my Enigma Machine {aenigma = Latin for "Riddle"}.
Even if you put a custom ROM *made for the S5* from this subforum, the AOD function drains a large amount of battery. Not worth it at all, phone becomes unusable.
There are lots of apps that brings AOD to ur phone. Search through play store.
