Hi!
I'm new to custom ROMs, and the whole ADB, TWRP, Bootloading, etc shenanigans.
I wanted to try a custom ROM, so i installed the lineageOS ROM on this forum. I lost my backup sadly, so i'm stuck with the custom ROM.
I'm having some problems with it, and i just want the stock ROM back with Root access. I thought restoring the stock recovery and putting in the B398 update.app file into SD/dload folder would work, but it gives back an error, and when i restart i just load back into the lineageOS ROM.
Can you guys help me out?

First do a factory reset and then flash the B398/B399 ZIP via TWRP.

Hi, If you already have twrp recovery and you can boot into twrp recovery, then you need to download stock oxygen os 2.2.1 ota.
when you download oxygen os 2.2.1 ota, flash it via twrp recovery, after that wipe factory data reset, then you flash your custom roms later. this will bypass the error 7 and you will have to resume enjoying your custom roms.
Here's what happens, when u totally erases the system, data, and formats everything with twrp recovery, custom roms don't run again, i think they kinda need some basic files from the stock rom to enable them to run. i experienced this myself with aicp and this is how i fixed it. so go on, look for the oxygen 2.2.1 ota.zip, download, flash, then wipe data fastory reset, then you can now have your custom roms flashed and working. again.
Right!! but oos 3.0 official is also working

It's there to protect you from flashing a ROM incompatible with your current bootloader (there's two of them, pre oos3 and oos3 bootloader/fastboot).
So if you want to flash a ROM which is Lollipop (or using Lollipop bootloader like easier versions of Graraks and Seraph08s builds) you will have to restore your phone to oos2.x.x first. Same goes the other way around, and also your recovery system must be compatible with respective bootloader.
This info should be force-feeded to every noob checking in on this forum hoping for an easy swapping of ROMs on this phone, which is not gonna happen because of this.
I tried to factory reset a custom ROM, got sent to TWRP then I can't reboot to system from there. Tried a clean install but to no avail. I've looked around on the internet and I think I have to reinstall stock ROM and then reinstall custom recovery and ROM, except if I were to install the stock ROM once again (with sp tools) I need my phone to be turned off, not in recovery mode. So how exactly should I proceed now?
EDIT: Managed to get rid of the TWRP bootloop by restoring from a stock nandroid I've found on the forums, coupled with flashing a stock recovery image using TWRP. Reunlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP all over again and then flashed custom ROM and Gapps. Everything running fine now.

Is there any way to restore it safely and correctly, maby some file I can download that fixes the problem? I really don't want to flash original firmware allover again..

May it is enough if you flash the boot.img of the rom from which you made the twrp backup. I guess you have the rom file on your sdcard, unzip and flash the boot.img with twrp. Or dirty flash the rom if you're to lazy for a clean install.
I was on stock android 8.0.. So I guess that won't work.

Why this shouldn't work ?? You can flash boot, system, recovery and vendor.img of the unzip factory image with twrp, except bootloader and radio of course, but that's not necessary anyway.

LOL, fastboot flash stock boot, system, vendor.
Btw, if you're flashing to test some custom kernels you should have always the original boot.img from the
rom you're using on your sdcard. First flash the boot.img before you flash the next custom kernel, and don't flash a custom kernel over the next custom kernel.
Do you guys mean my backed up boot? Or should I download this files from somewhere?
If you backuped the original with TWRP, you can use it.
Otherwise download your rom, unzip and look for the file.
To solve your WiFi issue u have to dirty or clean flash anyway with TWRP,fastboot or flashfire. Whatever you prefer.
Okay. Yes i backed up the original. I will try it now
It worked when I only recovered system, boot and data
SOLVED. Mods you can delete this.
Hi, I could really use some help. I have the ZE552KL.
I unlocked the bootloader with the official apk from the asus website. I installed twrp successfully. This a brand new phone, it had Android 7.0 installed. I want to install Lineage 8.1.0. I wiped wiped data, cache, dalvik/art cache and system, then went to flash this stock oreo rom with twrp. I quickly realized that's not how you flash that rom. So now I have no OS and anything I try to install does not work.
I followed this guide trying to flash a stock rom back with the ASUS flash tool. Everytime I try it fails to "request signature from server" ?!?!? I've tried installing Lineage from TWRP but that does not work. I believe I need to come from a stock rom.
I'm thinking I'm having problems because I used the official unlocked bootloader? I tried the unofficial but was getting the permission denied error and I was fed up with it. What can I do to get back to a stock rom?
edit: downloaded firmware fromt he asus website and flashed via sd card.
hello, I'm in android stock oreo 8.1 (OPSS28.85-13-5)
I already have unlocked the bootloader. Now I need to install twrp recovery and install a custom rom.
What is going on now? I need to know something else, before installing a custom rom? Which twrp do I need to use in oreo? and the custom roms are installed in the same way?
Thank you.

Flash TWRP using fastboot. Backup everything from TWRP as soon as it opens as that is a huge help if something goes south. Copy that backup somewhere safe. Then do an internal wipe before installing a custom rom as sometimes the system size is shown wrong from within the android settings. Some roms require gapps seperately while other have included. Flash magisk for root.
Latest TWRP is 3.2.3-1.
Custom roms have the same installation process.. wipe sytem, data, cache and dalvik.
Also check the custom rom base before installing.
