Although @Wolfcity is being rather blunt, he isn't wrong. It sounds like your using it as adopted storage which is incredibly hard on an SD card, but once errors occur you cannot trust it again... For the minor cost of an SD card, just replace it.

My answer was a bit short indeed as I was thinking the same, a SD is not so expensive and maybe I presupposed that it is general knowledge from using HD and SD in PC or mobile that if a storage device starts producing errors you'll have to buy a new one real soon in almost all cases.

Inesplicable deletion of files

Looks like the phone, inexplicably deleted all the directories and files that were stored in my 32 GB Class 10 Lexar micro SD card. It happened once, a few days ago, and today I was at the point of listening to some mp3s when I realised that it happened again today, although now only the "music" directory was deleted.
Does anybody have an explanation?
Which rom, anything suspicious installed, anything new installed, rooted, connected it to a different computer, anything else which might help others to help you?
Also, wrong forum.
could be faulty card. also make sure you do not just eject the card from phone and/or computer without first properly unmounting it.
if it is a new card, or you do not care about data on it, reformat with this tool
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
Well, I'm on stock ROM KI4 (Android vers. 2.3.4), my phone is unrooted and I never touched the card since I first put it in the phone, 2 months ago. However the first time I had the unpleasant surprise to find all the directories deleted I was on a previous ROM (android 2.3.3), so it seems that the issue is not ROM dependant. I do have quite a few apps that I downloaded from forums and therefore may be suspected to play tricks. It may be these, or it may indeed be compatibility issues with the micro SD, but what seeems strange to me, is that I don't get errrors in reading or writing files on that memory, but simply all of a sudden, at the point of opening a file, I realize the file no longer there together with its entire directory...
Ok, I was just wondering if I was the only one experiencing this issue, and as it looks so, then I'll keep monitoring the situation to see if it happens again, in such case I'll try to investigate more deeply the possible causes.
Thank you both for the useful sugggestions, and kreoXDA for the link to that utility... It may become handy!
And sorry if I am in the wrong forum (am I?). I thought that this was the right one.

If you haven't already, I would strongly recommend checking your SD card using h2testw.
No actually, I haven't... thank you, I'll do it!

There's a similar program, SDCardTester, in the Android market, so you can test on the SGS2 itself.
Ok, that would a more significative test. And it will let me test the card even now that I am away from home and I have no access to a PC. Thank you.
If you bought a 32gb sdcard off ebay at a knockdown price then I suspect you have been conned.
Try the sdcard test as suggested, it is probably a 1gb card with false code.
If it is from ebay, Dont return item either as recorded delivery will be too expensive, greater than cost of card, phone ebay and they should refund you.

No I'm quite sure that the card is not a fake. I have been using it for 2 or 3 months, filling it almost fully with no problems of capacity, speed, data corruption or whatsoever. Yes I bought the card from ebay, but from a well respected seller at "normal" price and it definitely came sealed by the manufacturer in its original blister.
I've just tried testing with SD Card Tester and everything looks OK. I get about 10 MBps r/w that if I'm not wrong is compatible with the class of the card.
I'm suspecting more android or some malware, rather than the card or some incompatibilty issues, to have erased all its contents except one directory with 5 pictures in it.
Well, as I said, for the moment I think the best thing I can do is simply to keep monitoring the situation.
Thank you mates anyway.
You need to do the capacity test...

I have been having a similar issue with a genuine 16gb class 10 from kingston. Files dissappearing or beconing corrupt. Assuming its a faulty card but not had chance to check.

Me too... it's not easy to perform an exhaustive test...
And here we go again... yesterday I noticed that all the apps that were installed on the sd card had gone... this thing begins to hurt my nerves...
Are you sure the files are deleted or did the as card just unmount?
Happened to me and I just restarted phone, all good.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
In fact, that's the first thing I suspected, but unfortunately unmounting / mounting the SD card, even phisically removing / reinstalling it from the slot, and shutting off / turning back on the phone didn't solve the problem...
Well just to give some more info. Its def not a mount/unmount issue as the card contents become corrupt randomly. Im just wondering if its a spec issue as in is class 10 causing a problem. My card is being swapped out by kingston so i will update when I can.

Yet you still haven't followed the advice in the thread, which was to run h2testw or SDCardTester to check the true capacity of the drive, and ensure data written to is is not corrupted.
I too face this similar problem. Use a Nokia 8gb card, don't know if Nokia manufactures it or not. Anyway, my files get deleted too. Apps also get corrupted. Is this a sd card slot problem. Maybe it's faulty?

Yeah that's possible
thanks......
Since I changed my card to a better quality card the phone was more stable.
The other card triggered battery drains and camera crashes and then it had the unmount problem before the card eventual failed.
New one solved all problems.

Sounds like a bad SD card. Remove your SD card and see if it boots. You may need to format the card or replace it.

[Q] HELP problems writing in micro SD S4

Hi my problem is, I was transferring some videos from my desktop to my S4 micro SD, it suddenly threw an writing error, a few seconds later I unplug my phone from the usb and then plug it again, I was able to copy the files.
Everything was okay until I restarted my phone, the videos were gone. And now doesn´t matter if I write or delete something from the SD card every time that I restart my phone or remove the SD it returns to what it was.
This is my 2nd 64GB micro SD having this problem the first one was with my Samsung Note 10 2014, but was exactly in the same way.
I need to know if it can be fixed and how or do I need a new SD card.
I can think of a couple of possible causes.
I'm wondering if you might have a fake microSD card. In other words, looks like 64GB, but is really only 32, or maybe 16 GB, or something else. Think where did you buy the card. If you bought on line especially, this could be the case. You can get software that will check it.
If the card really is 64GB, then maybe you can try reformatting it to see if that corrects the problem.

No, it's an original card I bought both about a year ago everything was working fine until a few days ago... I think this is a very rare issue so I'm going to copy all content to my pc and destroy the SD. But thanks for your answer

Memory cards corrupt because you copy large files at a time which cause fault in memory card internal circuits...Copy data at some intervals give it break dont try to fill 64gb at a time..

Strange external micro SD card problem with Moto X Pure 1575, please help!

Similar issue like in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/sd-card-problems-moto-x-pure-t3447789
But even worse. The external SD card suddenly vanishes from phone, now it only shows up shortly after phone re-starts, then the external SD card will disappear again. Don't know what's wrong. Then I put a new SD card, it happens like that after I used it for two days. The external SD card is used as portable storage.
When I tried to format the SD card when phone just started, it fails to do so, then it disappears.
I took both SD cards to Windows computer, they show up correctly and I can copy the files out from them. However, I cannot format them, they give out error: the exFAT card is writable protected. How a micro-SD card is locked for writing?
Tried to search online, but couldn't figure out how to solve the issue. It seems to me the phone has some issue with the card and changed the card somehow.
Can anyone help?
Thanks a lot!
I've had similar issues with SD cards that were going bad - weird, inconsistent behavior. Do you have another SD card you can test the phone with to confirm it isn't a rom or tray problem?
I once had a card that would work fine in TWRP, fine in a PC w/ adapter, but just show up as removed and added over and over again in a rom. Had another that could be read, but not written or formatted. It was full of music, but music players could only play about 5 seconds then they'd skip to the next song. Both of these cards failed in short order after starting this flaky behavior.
Based on my experience, I'd say recover your data and RMA if it is an option. Having microSD to supplement storage is convenient, but those things are cheap for a reason.

Thanks, I've tried the second one(which works perfectly before I put in the phone) already, it ends up as the same bad state. I am afraid to brick the third SD card I throw into there...but I will try another one later.
I should have read more carefully. I wouldn't throw a third card at it if you've already tried two and had the same result.
Is this with the stock rom?

Yes, stock ROM, but I did root the phone.
I tried to contact Moto support and request a repair, funny enough it didn't go through because I don't have US address, which I did and put it right there!
For test, I put another small capacity card in the phone again to see what's going to happen...It might be the card, but two cards in a row...and they are different brand...Anyway, Lexar card will replace my card without trouble. But I still want to know if it's the phone's problem...Will see.

Be interesting to see if the small card behaves. If it is <32 gb it is probably fat32.
Some of the problems I described above started after letting an old phone format a high capacity card that started out as exfat to fat32. Some people say they do it and it is not a problem, but I tried formatting one 64 gb card from exfat to fat32 and broke it twice. Once using a phone and the second time using a laptop and gparted. Manufacturer did replace it both times. Left as exfat I'm still using the same card in my XT1575 several years later.

Just thought I would chime in and say since you unlocked your bootloader moto legally will not offer a repair unless you pay for it since you're warranty is now null and void.
