S7 Edge Emergency help!!! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Hi, I have a huge problem, I locked myself out of my S7 edge and it frp'd on me after trying for days to fix the problem (I entered the wrong email and kept receiving the incorrect password message and I rest the password to wrong email and later deleted the email) I had my friend who is really good with fixing things. He got it to work and not sure how he did what he did, but he got an update tried to install it. It crashed and is telling me to use the Smart switch PC Emergency Recovery Function. But that's not the worst part.
The major problem is that it is showing that the phone is a SM-G935P. I don't know what he did or how he did it. But I am sure someone on this site can help. I have tried most of the Odin program's I seen and I have downloaded some much firmware that I am begging for help. Samsung said they will help with the frp once I get the phone back working some what can any one help. We been trying for about two months straight. I am going to upload a picture of what the screen days in download mode.

From what I can tell it seems your friend installed Sprint's newer firmware on your device which has a binary version of 6 while the other carriers' firmware are on binary version 4. Sprint did this to make it harder for their customers to switch mobile carriers by not allowing the device to downgrade the binary version (the binary/bootloader version of the firmware is indicated by the digit in the 5th from last character in the firmware version. G935PSPT6BRD2 as shown here the binary version is 6. So now you are stuck on Sprint's firmware and will need to download the latest version of their firmware link: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935p/
Use the PrinceCosmy version of Odin to flash this and you should be able to get back running from there.
Also by your Download Mode screen's information it also indicated that your FRP Lock is not activated so once you flash the updated Sprint firmware you should be golden.

Double check your firmware version you are flashing and that it is the latest Sprint firmware listed in Sammobile (G935PSPT6BRD2)

IMPORTANT REMINDER TO OTHER USERS SINCE THIS IS POSTED IN THE VERIZON FORUM: This is only a solution if you are experiencing the same issue with your phone model SM-G935P (Sprint)..Do not attempt to flash this particular firmware if you are not already stuck with the updated binary version Sprint pushed to their customers as of November 2017 because you will not be able to flash any other of the carriers' roms as it seems the others are not going to update their binary version. When this firmware is flashed to your phone you will (at least for the foreseeable future) be stuck with Sprint's version of the S7 Edge which includes their bloat etc...although you will still be able to unlock the phone for use on other carriers, it will prove to be very difficult to use your carrier's full extent of features as most of those features will not be available in this rom/firmware. Again if your device shows as any other model (G935A, G935V, G935T) then do the research to find the firmware for your model because you will have many more options staying away from this firmware, I've been reading many many posts where users have carelessly flashed Sprint's updated firmware and are unable to go back because of this.

[Help] Samsung S8 (SM-G950W) bypass FRP?

Hi,
I did a search here for anything to do with (SM-G950W) and saw 10 threads about this model but I am unable to find a thread that has a solution to my problem. I have read posts about using Odin v3.12.7 and putting the phone into download mode then flash the PDA (now called AP) with a combination .MD5 file that is compatible for (SM-G950W). I tried flashing with a stock AP, one from a stock SM-G950U and several others that I have found from Google search and all I get from Odin is "SW REV CHECK FAIL : [abl]Fused 2 > Binary 1". I made sure I had the latest version (as of writing this post) of the Samsung USB Driver with version 1.5.63.0 so does anyone know how I can bypass the FRP (factory reset protection)? I see lots of Youtube videos about using a bluetooth device and calling emergency but I will avoid this method. I should also mention that the "download" screen does show FRP lock enabled if that matters (is this KNOX?).
I am trying to help my friend fix this problem because he locked himself out of his phone so I am out of ideas and for whatever reason he does not remember the last Google account that was synced with his phone. We tried all the emails that "he" thinks it is and when we put in his cell phone # the recovery said it will send us the verification code but it fails.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks to those who replied.
EDIT:
I got Odin to flash the phone now. I had to use Canada (Rogers), version 7.0, PDA - (G950WVLU2AQK7), CSC - (G950WOYA2AQK7), date 2017-12-10 from SamMobile website. I wanted to flash the XAC version to remove Rogers branding but I kept getting the "SW REV CHECK FAIL : [abl]Fused 2 > Binary 1" error. Anyway, the phone rebooted back to FRP (factory reset protection) screen to enter a Google account. So back to square one unless someone knows which file I need to flash in order to bypass or unlock FRP.
Thanks,

Use a tool like chimera tool you'll be able to get past that no problem. Should be able to anyway. 99% of people on these forums will automatically brand you a thief because nobody here apparently forgets their login account info and are otherwise perfect citizens

First off, thank you for being helpful. I even invited myself to the telegram group "Galaxy S8/S8+ (XDA Group)" to ask for help there too and some people was not as helpful by telling us that it would be impossible to forget the login. Seriously, I could have laughed at my friend and call him dumb but I didn't because he came to me for help. I searched and read so many forums and downloaded so many different files from legal websites to understand what to do but I couldn't get it resolved.
I will try the "chimera" tool that you suggested and if that doesn't work then we will just give up and bring the phone to a repair shop. I spoke to someone at Google today who said gmail password resets may take up to 24 hours for the phone to recognize. So we will try again with the 3 gmail accounts that we think was synced with the phone tomorrow because the passwords was just reset today however the representative said Samsung might be able to help so he transferred us to the Samsung in the U.S. (by mistake?) and the girl from Samsung transferred us to Samsung Canada. What a run around; anyway the last person said we may need to bring it to a repair shop. The person asked us for our postal code and gave us a few shops in our area.
Crossing our fingers that the "chimera" tool works otherwise we're probably looking at $50-$60 CAD for the phone repair shop to fix this issue.
Thanks again!

So I installed chimera and it doesn't list SM-G950W as an available model to reset the FRP. Do I need an update or do I need to buy something to get more supported models? Also I looked at "http://www.techoxygen.com/samsung-fr...frp-lock-free/" and downloaded the "Octoplus Samsung Tool" the download file came with a trojan virus which got removed by antivirus program. Now when I try to open the Octoplus tool it is saying that the "Card is not found". What does that mean? Sorry I never done this before so I am not familiar with these terms.

Thanks for your help. We tried watching the videos but our Samsung S8 does not have a home button. Anyway, we decided to go to a local phone repair shop and they charged us $80 to reset the lock. We had to wait a bit because the Samsung server was down but at least we got our phone working again.
Also if anyone is wondering about the chimera tool and support for Samsung S8 this is the response I got from their support team:
Dear User,
Yes, currently it is not supported. The FRP reset is not added for the S8 models.Of course we will add it, in the near future. When? right now i can not tell you exact date, but i am sure that we can handle it soon.
Best regards,

Right on at least you got it going again. I just kinda assumed chimera tool supported that cause I've been using it for years on my other galaxy phones and was unlocking a whole bunch of other phones for $10 a pop.
I have same problem with my sm-g950w and don't want to pay 80$ at phone repair shop
hopefully if I wait a little, more option will become available for the frp reset
if anyone has any more options, please let me know

It's not that everyone thinks that, it's that there is no way to tell from a forum post, and rather than risk making xda complicit in a felony it's safer and fairer to just not answer any of them on the board where there is an official record. Just wait until some judge subpones all of xdas servers because they hold official records in an ongoing criminal case

Ok trying to help here, if you already flashed the phone with version 7 its means will get easy to bypass the G account, just there are a lot of videos on you tube but the easiest one is in spanish.. (freedom phone) the name of the you tuber, if not there are more in english..
Android 7 allow you to update the keyboard which is necessary in order to complete the task, it will take just 10 minutes I did one T mobile but it will work with the canadian one as long as the phone has the version 7.. btw i am downloading the rogers firmware to flash my canadian one.. thanks for the tip..
XDA never encourages this "fishy" applications for some really really desperate people that needs help.
Samsung repair centre can fix your FRP Locked phone. Just present your Proof of purchase/receipt/ warranty card and of course your phone
So you can use your phone again.
FRP security is implemented to prevent unauthorized access on your phone.
So make sure you don't forget your main google account logged in on your phone.
It is really recommended that you have "MULTIPLE WAYS" of retrieving your Google account
Make sure your G Account has
(
1. phone number
2. recovery email
3. provided security
4. Q&A
5. Google recovery page ( you need to answer personal info/identity you can remember)
)

If this helps you i have the SM-G950W (G950WVLS3BRE1) and i made it work by flashing the COMBINATION_FA70_G950USQU3ARD1 first then i flashed the firmware 4 file G950USQU3CRD4 using BL+AP+CP+HOME_CSC+USERDATA and it worked beautifully. Maybe it will help your issue.

Hi,
I am new to this forum and need some help please.
I have a Samsung S8 (G950WVLU5BRG4) with Android Version 8.0. The phone is unlocked and from Rogers in Canada but has a Google FRP.
Although I followed the step by step instructions with the combination file and so on Odin keeps showing me an error and is unable to bypass the Google account lock. The error message I am getting within log of the combination file is:
FAIL! (Auth)
Complete (Write) operation failed
All threads completed. (succeed 0/ failed 1)
Any idea of how to solve this problem? I am sure it got solved already by someone in the forum but I can't find the right entry.

No so you need a 950 U combo equal to that of what is on your device

Problem with my G935A

Hi, I got a S7 Edge SM-G935A from AT&T at the end of December.
That same night I tried to root my phone(i got a bootloop), and I didn't know the bootloader was locked.
So I re-flashed a SM-G935U rom, but I would like to go back to the basic one in order to get a new start(SM-G935A), without root and nothing.
Knowing that I have a problem connecting to the wifi, maybe because of the rom that doesn't match.
And also i dont have samsung updates, i'd like to have the latest one im currently on 7.0.
If someone could help me to get my phone with original firmware, I'd be grateful.
Ok, first off, you can run any US/Qualcomm variant software on your device. Unless you just have a hankering for AT&T firmware, the U firmware will work just fine. Either way, find a full copy of either A or U firmware and ODIN it down, and you will essentially factory reset your device in the process.
There are links to both in this forum. I personally prefer U because it is faster and less bogged down with carrier crap, but if you are an AT&T customer, there are decent enough reasons to stick with A.
NOTE: you may need to use Prince Comsy's ODIN tool if you get a mismatch error. Unfortunately, there is no universal ODIN tool, but as a general rule, if you are CHANGING variants you need Prince's. If you are writing over the same version, you need the official.

Then this is easy. Go download the U firmware and use Prince's ODIN to convert it to a G935U. If you aren't on an AT&T network there is zero reason to keep your device on A firmware, starting with the fact that you will never get updates. (AT&T firmware will only update if you have an AT&T SIM installed.)

Only add-on is to perform this from a Windows 7 pc and not 10. Prince kept crashing on 10 and worked fine on 7.

S7 SM-G930P ~ Boot Loader Issues? SW REV CHECK FAIL : [ABOOT]FUSED 5 > BINARY 4

Hi All.
Thank you for any help you might give me in advance with this issue...
Last week, I tried to root the phone with the SM-G930P CF-Autoroot heroqltespr files with Odin found in this forum. I have rooted a few other phones but am no expert. The root after a few attempts failed (verified a few ways), however, some files must have been affected because the phone "identifies" as heroqltespr. Identifies as when I could plug into my PC heroqltespr would be the name. It was not set this way in the obvious name your device areas. I ended up doing a hard reset to clear the phone and other than the ghost naming everything was working fine.
A day or 2 ago Sprint rolled out a new OTA update which the phone installed. Since then the phone was draining battery life. After uninstalling and reinstalling the SD card today, it seems to have tripped a "Security Notice: Unauthorized Actions". That is when the trouble started. The phone started running hot, basically leaking battery power, and was all lagging. I'm assuming the CPU going Ludicrous speed.
Now, I am in a Samsung Splash screen loop, or or a recovery loop. The only thing it does is go into download mode.
I have tried flashing stock firmware, it fails. I've tried flashing with and without the SD or Sim card. Not really sure what I should be doing. The "P" version of my phone seems to be the bastard child of S7s. Any help you guys cold give me would be great. THANK YOU!
The Download Screen Reads:
Odin Mode (High Speed)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
FAP Lock: Off
Warranty Void: 8x8
Qualcomm Secure Boot: Enabled
AP SWREV: 85(2,1,1,1,1) K1 S4

No it isn't.
I get this error message on the download screen. SW REV CHECK FAIL : [ABOOT]FUSED 5 > BINARY 4
I fixed it.
5 > BINARY 4 error, has to do with a Version 5 bootloader Sprint came out with in 2018. The fact that this is only affected by the SM-G390P further complicates things for the average user. Users on version 5 bootloader will need to wait until/If a version 5 universal bootloader for the SM-G930U to get unbloated firmware. Information on restoring your S7 SM-G930P to where you left off before you started trying to root your phone can be found below. More info on Sprint F'n us and BL Version 5 can be found here
https://www.arencambre.com/blog/2018/01/01/fused-firmware-version-locks-samsung-s7/comment-page-1/. There was a post on XDA (which I can't find) which gave the idea that Sprint came out with this version 5 bootloader to prevent people from flashing the phones to the U version and going overseas with them.
The stock files for the first version of Sprint Version 5 bootloader firmware dated 1-1-18 can be found here:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930P/SPR/download/G930PVPS5BRA1/206876/
Unzip. Only have auto reboot and Re-partition checked as options in Odin.
If you dont mind me asking, did you ever find a way to root the G930P with the 5th bootloader updates? Is it even possible at this point in time? Im new when it comes to rooting but with the amount of time Ive spent browsing the web it seems as if there is nothing. Thanks.

I got screwed by this, I accidentally installed the P firmware, and now I cannot load U firmware because of this 5 > 4 error. I went to the blog you posted (arencambre), and I am only able to install the U firmware modem (CP package in Odin), everything else has to be P. And because of the P firmware, I am unable to edit APN settings to enable my native Hotspot. Is there anything I can do, besides wait for U firmware to come out with a Version 5 bootloader?

Actually, I am on Sprint, and your directions were awesome, thank you so much! The only thing I had to do was change the line to:
settings put global tether_dun_apn "APNDUN,n.ispsn,,,,,,http://mms.sprintpcs.com,68.28.31.7,80,310,120,,default,dun,mms,supl"
I'm going to put a link to the thread so others can refer to it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/hotspot-bypass-nougat-ok-t3563446
Hi all,
EDIT: I posted this in another thread that was about two years old, where I followed the instructions that caused this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...msung-galaxy-s7-sm-g930p-root-xposed-t3503599
That thread seems dead-ish and if you managed to fix this issue maybe you can help me also. Also what was lvpre's original post before he edited it, and would it apply here?
So the worst has happened - got a new (used) phone from Boost Mobile, tried this guide, and now I can only boot to the "An error has occured while updating the device software. Use the Emergency Recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." screen. Sometimes it does take me to the original "Download mode" screen.
Now, I should be able to resolve this by flashing the original firmware correct? (As in, the firmware that was installed when it came)? Or does it just need to be firmware from the same date range that has the same bootloader? ODIN will still let me attempt flashing on this screen, but I still get the same error when I try again, which on the Download mode screen showed "SW REV CHECK FAIL : [system]Fused 4 > Binary 1"
Any advice here? My S6 bricked when somehow OEM unlock enabled itself and I can't get around the FRP lock, I will be VERY annoyed if the same thing happens with a NEW phone. If I can't fix this I am never buying Samsung again. Any advice on this is very welcome! I emailed Boost to ask them which firmware is installed (because I'm an idiot and didn't write it down but have never had flashing go this wrong before).
EDIT: Booting to recovery just shows a blue "RECOVERY BOOTING...." for a second in the corner and gives a recovery bootloop, just keeps flashing that.
EDIT: I apparently tried to flash an earlier bootloader/etc through ODIN according to the directions in the post I linked above, and after that I now have this problem. Nobody else in the thread seems to have had this problem, and your post is the closest to anything I can find on this issue. I would be in your eternal debt if you could help me out here.
PLEASE HELP!
EDIT: Theoretically if I can find the original firmware it was on I should be fine, right? Everywhere I read if flashing goes wrong you just flash the original stock on it. I guess worst case scenario I download gigs upon gigs of firmwares for Sprint 930P over the last year and find the one that sticks? Or is the fact my recovery is bootlooping and I can only go into download mode mean I'm bricked?
Hello all,
To follow up on my last post, I found success restoring to stock via this firmware:
G930PVPU4BQH1_G930PSPT4BQH1_SPR_7.0.zip
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634799807
I left my original post just in case anyone messes this up the way I did. I still need root, but now I know how to reset to stock in the event this happens again.
For the record I bought a used Samsung Galaxy S7 off the Boost website.
IF YOU FOLLOW THIS GUIDE, OR ANY, MAKE SURE TO GO INTO "SETTINGS -> ABOUT PHONE" AND MARK DOWN WHAT FIRMWARE THE PHONE IS CURRENTLY ON AS STOCK. THIS WILL SAVE YOU A HEADACHE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHICH FIRMWARE YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD IF THINGS GO WRONG. DO NOT PAY FOR A FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD OR USE FILESHARE SITES, GO HERE: https://simunlockremote.com/galaxy-s-series-firmware/ AND FIND THE VERSION YOU ARE ON AND IT WILL DIRECT YOU TO A FAST GOOGLE DRIVE LINK.
Thanks to all the hard work all the devs have done that have gotten use. I still need root soooooooooo if anyone knows how to do that let me know!
CHEERS! I am so happy right now

I've got a Galaxy S7 G930P from Sprint. I just switched to T-Mobile a couple months ago and brought my S7 phone with me. I was hoping to flash my rom to either the G930U or the G930T (T-Mobile) version, but both are still bootloader v4 and I hit the same error that everyone else on this thread was hitting.
My main problem is that my S7 phone can't send/receive MMS messages on T-Mobile, even after updating the APN settings, and, even worse for me personally - my phone gets below average reception everywhere I go, presumably because my Sprint G930P rom has locked down some of the bands that T-Mobile uses.
Aside from getting a new phone, do I have any options? Or am I stuck waiting for either a G930T or a G930U update based on bootloader 5?

If your phone is uicc [sim] unlocked from sprint... you can try the following.
1. Odin a dec/Jan firmware...like QJ3. But replace the cp slot with the file from the latest u firmware. This is the modem file.
2. When your phone starts, you will receive a pop up message, just hit cancel.
3. Install a package disabler like sabs, bk, adhell2. Disable securitylogagent . This should remove the annoying message. Sabs takes a little effort to setup, but you may need it for the disabler part. Restart after disabling.
4. Pop in sim. See if the additional bands are unlocked.
If you fail, you can always just odin back to a v5 sprint firmware. But don't try it unless you are stuck on the current firmware and your phone is doing nothing. It won't brick your phone.
While the firmware is not downloadable, modem files can downgrade one major update.
This worked for me, but I only have sprint and haven't tried it elsewhere.
Here is an article https://www.arencambre.com/blog/2018/01/01/fused-firmware-version-locks-samsung-s7/comment-page-1/
Is this triggers the knox counter ?

S7 Different PDA and Phone models.

I have an s7 edge that my buddy gave me, saying it stopped working after he tried to downgrade the OS or something, now the phone only boots to Factory Binary. On the back of the phone, it says it is a G935v, however, in the factory binary, it lists the model as G935a. So which firmware do I use to fix it? And if you could, how would I go about getting the phone to boot normally instead of in factory binary?
When booting into factory binary, the PDA is FA60_G945AUCU5ARA2, the model is SAMSUNG-SM-G935A [SS], and the Phone is G935VVRU4BQH4. To my knowledge these are listing as 2 different models. Also I tried to flash the official firmware from Sammobile, and I got errors like [aboot] Fused 5 > Binary 4, etc, every time.
I would really like to get this phone working. Thanks in advance!
Bump
If I remember correctly you can flash AT&T firmware on a Verizon. Not so sure about vice-versa. As for the errors in Download Mode, make sure you're not downgrading (e.g from 7.0 to 6.0)
And I think your phone was sold by Verizon and its firmware was changed to AT&T
Also, I found this
That is not good news.
Each time VZ updates their software for these phones, they update a value in a fuse.
That started as 1 with MDK, went to 2 with ME7, 3 with MI1, and 4 with MJ7. At least that's what I think the revisions did to the qfuse.
So it's seeing that you're trying to flash a binary with revision 3 (BINARY:3) but it remembers a flash with revision 5.
Now, there's nothing out there that I know of for the i545 that's rev 5 - the next update after MJ7 will be rev 5. So, your phone is probably not going to be recoverable until VZ and Samsung release another software update for the I545. Something corrupted the fuse storing the update level.
You can verify this by flashing MJ7 - it'll probably say FUSED:5, BINARY: 4.
Sorry for the bad news.

That was for a SGS4, so I guess the same applies today.
Im assuming the A following the 935 stands for AT&T, and the V would stand for Verizon. So according to what you quoted, I'm trying to "downgrade", and the OS wont allow it? Or am I misunderstanding?
Also for what it's worth, in recovery mode it says 6.0.1 is the current firmware, but again it is listing itself as 935A, and I can't get it to boot properly, it only goes to a "factory binary".
Yes. That's about it. Try flashing a Nougat or Oreo firmware.
Or
Try flashing a combination file and then an ordinary firmware

im having almost the same issue except it is saying Fused 8 binary 4. it is also a Verizon phone for sure. Everytime I look to find the exact firmware for nougat because I want to downgrade to get away from this stupid security update it keeps failing. any ideas?

Links for AT&T USERDATAs

I know these are much tougher to find - can't be obtained from SamFirm or SamMobile. So I'll be uploading one for each bootloader version. Firmware is universal on U models so you can use the other 4 files from any other matching collection. Can probably even mix and match builds, if you can't find files for the exact same build. Can't mix and match bootloaders though, so the other 4 files have to at least be from the same bootloader.
USERDATAs for any other CSCs can be gotten from SamFirm - for the latest version. If you need an old USERDATA for a CSC that's not commonly found on SamMobile (ACG, LRA, TFN, etc), let me know and I can probably get it.

Can I use the userdata file for G55USQU5CRF5 with the other four files being from the build G55USQS5CRF5? I'm not sure what the difference between SQU and SQS is, and if it is significant. Thank you!

Yes, you can. There basically is no difference
I'm begging someone to help me. I flashed my AT&T S8+ to the G955U1 unlocked firmware, then got accepted into the beta and installed it via OTA update. I now want to go back to a AT&T rom so I can have stuff like Wi-fi calling and VOLTE back. I've tried so many different roms with ATT userdata and they all fail with ODIN. I'm guessing its something to do with bootloader version. Is there any way I can get back to a AT&T ROM from the G955U1 Pie beta firmware.

I finally managed to get Odin to flash a ROM. All of them I tried were bootloader 5. But now the problem is I cant get OTA updates. My phone is back to being a AT&T one with the AT&T boot screen and wi-fi calling etc etc. But everytime I check for updates it says its up to date even though I have CRL1 and the latest AT&T firmware is U5CSA4. I would update form SD card but that wipes the phone every time. I had to do that 4 or 5 times just to get to CRL1 because it kept saying my phone is up to date.

1. AT&T phones don't OTA if you're using a carrier other than AT&T - even their own MVNOs
2. If you are using AT&T, OTA rollouts are staged. It just came out less than a week ago, so your phone might not have been green-lit yet
3. Both 1 and 2 are really irrelevant anyways, because you can just Odin flash any update you want. Using HOME CSC will ensure data isn't wiped

I am using AT&T. I know rollouts are staged but I've never had it tell me my phone is up to date when it is 7 versions behind which it was because I had to start at CRF5 since that is the newest AT&T Userdata file I could find. I checked after doing the update from SD card method each time, making sure to put the date on my phone forward since AT&T only lets you manually check once a day. No matter what it said I was up to date despite being several versions behind.
I'm gonna try using Odin to flash one more time because not being able to do OTA update is a HUGE PIA. Dose it matter that the user data is called "ATT_G955USQU5CRF5" despite the firmware being USQS because I couldn't find a USQUCRF5 and besides AT&T's update history shows USQSCRF5 anyways. What I did was downloaded a verizon G955USQS5CRF5 ODIN file (because for some reason AT&T odin files are really hard to find) and replaced the Verizon user data with the AT&T one.
Also if I flash say CSA4 verizon with the verizon user data the put my AT&T sim card in it dose it not download all the the carrier bloatware and what not? dose that basically turn it back into a AT&T phone? or could I take that CSA4 and flash it with the CRF5 AT&T user data?

1. I have no idea what the difference is between SQS and SQU. Even on the same network, it seems to be completely random as to which one gets assigned to each new update. I don't think it matters
2. Don't flash userdata if you're going to Odin flash a different carrier's version. Just do the normal 4 files
Sorry for the late reply. But just wanted to say that this method of getting from a G955U1 (US Unlocked) firmware back to AT&T branded firmware did end up working. I did eventually start getting OTA updates after using the method I mentioned (flashing Verizon USQS5CRF5 ROM files with AT&T G955USQS5CRF5 USERDATA file using ODIN Odin3 v3.13.1 3B Patched). Then updating to the then latest version using the update.zip method using files from the "Firmware Science" site (I think that's the name). Then about two days after AT&T released a new update I actually got it OTA. However after it installed successfully my chrome app became broken. Opening it and hitting the ... button in the top right would open the menu but all the options just said "chrome". Tried clearing the cache and files of Chrome but then it just crashed when launched. Had to do a reset (not a big deal since I had a Samsung SmartSwitch backup on my SD Card). Just hope that dose not happen every OTA, but guessing it was a weird fluke.

Since the USERDATA is TA5, I would recommend using a build that's closer to that one. You can get TA3 from SamFirm under regions/CSCs ACG, CCT, LRA, SPR, TFN, or VZW.
When you say "returning to stock", what firmware is currently on the device?

I was on a verizon build. I ended up returning to stock with G955USQS6DSG4, got one update and now says no firmware. Currently shows G955USQU6DSH8.
SamMobile actually had pretty decent speed.

Do you have all of AT&T's apps and bloatware now? If so, it should be updating at least to SJ3, if not up to TA5. You would need an active AT&T SIM inserted in order to pull the update though
