huge problem when letting my phone charge to 100% overnight - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

(it happens on every rom, stock or not, currently on latest 7.1.2 RR)
sometimes when I let my phone charge it's battery to 100% my rom just completely ****s itself up, and basically resets it. I'm unable to log into my google accounts. this has been happening two times now with my new battery and a lot of times with my old battery.
this basically ****s everything up, making me have to completely wipe and reinstall reinstall everything onto my phone
does anyone have the same problem? are there fixes? battery charge limiter apps usually do it but they're not reliable.

If you use the turbocharger, try switching to a regular one that charges the phone much slower. I didn't have this problem or anything but this should at least be worth trying.

I have never encountered this kind of problem with either the stock charger from the box or with a quick charger 3.0. Either way you probably shouldn't let it charge overnight because you're slowily killing the battery.

You may try Magisk module called Magic Charging Switch. By default it lets the battery charge up to 90% and will resume charging when it's below 80%. I'm using it with great success for quite some time now and I can highly recommend it. Also, the battery will be able to make much more cycles.

Sprint rep told me that battery graph is what is draining my battery

I'm within my 30days
I love this phone.
My battery discharges rapidly, especially their the first 5 mins off the charger.
I have been looking at this issue, but I am new to android.
I find it funny we can't actually see a battery percentage without installing third party apps. Then Sprint tries to say that these apps are the cause of the issue.
Trust me, I understand that this phone will drain the battery more rapidly than a lot of other phones. But there is something wrong with the way this phone charges the battery, therefore we see less battery life.
Can anyone prove or disprove their little claim that I am killing the battery by looking at its performance?

tell him that the phone and the plan is also draining your wallet, may be you should do something about that too
the reason your battery sometimes drops so quickly after you take it off the charger has been well documented. several threads with ways to improve the battery as well.
it has to do with the way the battery actually charges. it charges to 100% then allows the phone to discharge to 90% then charges up again...so at any time when you unplug the phone you may have 91% to 100% charge. or something like that.
1) have you tried conditioning your battery? (plug, wait, unplug, rinse repeat)
2) are you rooted? (try using something like SetCPU or JuiceDefender)
3) are you on stock or custom rom? (the custom kernel devs have been working on this issue)
hmmmm...how could you possibly disprove the sprint person? try not using it for a couple days...see what happens.

No doubt....my withdrawals kick in after its been in my pocket for too long...
While do appreciate the input, I disagree with it being well documented. I have tried both top off methods, aka conditioning, and it seems to give you more of a charge, but as soon as discharge the battery you are right back where you started, conditioning the battery every morning is not ideal.

If the phone is new, its going to take a few cycles to improve. I remember when in my first week it wouldn't last a day. Now I can get 20-30 hours out of it. (ROMs and tweaking of course.)
There are tons of threads detailing what you can do to improve battery life... What have you done?
The purpose of a battery graph is to compare how your phone discharges to how your phone is being used. What plotting app do you have?

This is false...lithium batteries do not get broken in or conditioned. What you saw is more than likely a result of constant using your new toy. The novelty has worn off and you have tweaked it so now you have extended the battery life.
I have disabled Bluetooth, WiFi, gps, and 4g
I set the radio to cdma only, and this led to problems. So I cleared all data And started over.
Are youguys seriously ok with 'conditioning' your batteries every morning?
Sometimes I think people think I'm just trying to find faults with this device. I want to keep the phone, but I also want this problem clearly identified and resolved. I should not have to use my tilt 2 to charge my battery because my new state of the art phone can't do it correctly.

it's called the Fat Wallet Mod Discussed in other threads also,
But yes, I think it's dumb to have to condition the phone to get the best battery life, and how I have to get soo much good Light to take a good camera shot when other comparable phones don't need too. You have to weigh the goods and bad yourself.
The discharging of the battery is necessary as trickle charging a lithium battery is not recommended...thus this leads to you possibly having 95% instead of the full 100%. This is normal. Just unplug the device and charge again, or top it of in the car.
You never mentioned if you were rooted or not. If you don't use the news then don't sync it. If you don't use gtalk then disable it and turn off the auto sign in...i found that this app uses a lot of battery and its turned on by default.
It is not conditioning your battery.
When you charge your new evo and it hits 100%, the phone STOPS charging. It has no trickle charge. It begins charging again at 90% if still plugged in, although it reads 100% until it comes off the charger.
SO, when you unplug it, it says 100%, but could be anywhere between 90 and 100. If you simply unplug your phone, wait for it to display something other than fully charged (usually takes 30-60 seconds), then plug it back in, it will then charge back to 100%. You can simply unplug it, wait a few and then plug it back in while you go about your shower and cereal. When you are ready to leave the house you'll probably be at or near 100% instead of seeing it drop to something much lower.
This is NOT conditioning your battery. A more appropriate term would be "bump charging". As you are simply bumping it back to a charge state when it was in a resting state.
Another GREAT method of increasing battery life is resetting your battery stats. This is clearing out what the phone defines as full, and as empty and setting up these values again. I am not sure why, but they are off on many phones. They also get wiped anytime you flash a new rom so this procedure would again be in order if you experience poor battery life.
These are the instructions straight off cyanogen wiki. You can also reset them using Amon recovery.
Battery recalibration
If you're experiencing higher than normal battery drain, try the following:
1.Charge the phone to full battery; let it keep charging until the battery says it is fully charged. Do not just wait until the light is green, it isn't always fully charged, causing a lot of inaccuracies. (You can check by going to: Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Battery Level = Full.)
2.Boot to recovery mode and go to console (or adb shell) and type:
mount -a
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
NOTE: Newer Amon_Ra and ClockworkMod recoveries have an option to delete the battery stats, do this in place of the console commands above.
NOTE: To have the most accurate of battery stats, reboot the phone immediately after wiping the battery stats and wait for CM to boot completely to the desktop. Once your entire boot is done and you have full access to the phone, go ahead and pull the charger and continue with this troubleshooter.
1.Do not charge the phone until after draining the battery completely, resulting in it automatically shutting off.
2.Recharge the phone completely and then use as you normally would.

no...i can't imagine anyone 'conditions' their battery daily. however, if experiencing issues wiping the stats and doing the conditioning thing do have an impact.

While most of the battery problem isn't the plotter app, the plotter app is using a fair amount of battery, so I usually would recommend not having such apps running except when you are diagnosing problems. Turn off various apps sync settings and keep background apps to a minimum, like juice plotter, battery widgets, and other data intensive apps and widgets. That right there will save you some power. Other than that, follow all the excellent suggestions that are already in this thread. Oh, and I find I get better battery when I just don't worry about it. I set up all my sync services and then leave them alone. Then just go about my day, using my phone as needed. Constantly worrying about it only wastes power because you are constantly fiddling with settings and apps.
PROTIP: Never believe anything a cellular rep tells you. Ever. EVER!
The Evo just has terrible battery life, that's my personal conclusion. One of the trade offs with such a huge screen and such. You'd think that in this day and age battery technology would have kept up with all the other bells and whistles, but no.

Battery issue - Running 100% only after fully charging

Anyone have a battery issue with their X5?
I've had the same issue with a few different roms (133 to start with 136 now running 160) and all had the same problem I believe.
After charging to 100% i'll notice for the rest of the day it will use up the battery very quickly and the running time in the battery monitor will be 100% of the uptime.
If i reboot the phone after charging running time will be more normal, say 10/20% or so over a day (will be down to maybe 80% charge after say 6 or 7 hours, but if I dont reboot it will easily be down to 40% or so at the same time)
I've noticed while googling that some Mot DroidX users have exactly the same issue? Having to reboot after charging to fix the problem.
Done all the usual check, turned off wifi/bluetooth/screendimmed etc etc etc checked running apps etc, but it only happens after 100% charge (can plug in and charge for a few minutes, unplug and running time doesnt go up)
weird problem.
Sounds to me you got a defective battery, I recommend you hand over it and get a new one !

This is mentioned in my post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043760
But I don't believe it has any thing to do with charging, its just a certain amount of time after you've unplugged it it happens, maybe 1 hour, maybe 5. But it doesn't seem to matter if you've restarted it after unplugging it, all that seems to do its reset the amount of time before it breaks. Then you restart it again.
Im currently using B137 (Android 2.2.2), and am not experiencing the this issue (although I seemed to be experiencing it with all previous roms except U8800H B136(But that has extremely high 3g battery drain))
Edit: Wrong quote

As soon as I unplug i'll monitor the battery run time and it will constantly stay at 100%, even if i check 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30/60 minutes after the screens off.
If I reboot straight away after unplugging the phone will be perfect for the rest of the day, will never go very high in runtime, running apps, wifi, bluetooth everything during the day perfectly without burning through battery.
Its not a battery problem as its fine as long as you reboot, there must be something in the code somewhere that does something when it reaches 100% charge and doesnt shutdown after? some sort of charge notifier maybe?
Must be a code problem because how come Droid users would be having exactly the same issue when unplugging after a full charge?
Same problem randomly here too. Sometimes after unplugging it is stuck on running 100% and nothing seems to help exept reboot. I've tried switching on/off wifi/bt/gps etc. and killing all possible apps/services but it just doesn't sleep if not rebooted.
Strangely it doesn't happen every time after charging. I always have the phone plugged in overnight and usually have 5 or 6 days uptime before this problem occurs and I have to restart it.
Running B160 rom, clocked @ 1209 Mhz.

Battery life problem

I flashed original rom but my battery behavior is still like on 2.3.5 RC4. Charge to 99% and drains very fast. Did someone know how to get back it original life. I tried battery calibrators from the market and battery wipe from clockwork mod but no result
If your optimus is old it is normal that battery life will get worser and worser ... All you can do is get new battery of ebay like I did and now my battery life is normal ...
Mike
It's not old. Its younger than a year. Battery life was good and on swift it last long and charge to 100% but after last time i flashed 2.3.5 rc4 i calibrate it (to try it last longer like on other roms) and now even on stock it drains like on rc4 and not charged to 100%
Use spare parts to see is there app that drain battery.
install "batterycalibration" from market, charge to 100% and calibrate your battery for this rom
Yes i download two battery calibration programs but the problem is that it's not charging to 100% but to 99% and drains very fast after this. i'll calibrate it a few days hope to fix
yeah, that happens to most people.
unplug, use a few seconds or 1min or so and plugin and wait if its fully charged, it could be that you have to do that a few times (2-3x)

Your not alone on this, same thing with me.
I have ordered another battery from ebay but dont really know why all of a sudden this just began happening whilst using the same Rom which I think has something to do with it.
I use a program from Market called Android Booster to terminate running programs that start up or dont close once started, as sometimes if you use your camera, it will be still running, even if you close it up so hence battery life turns crap.
But also, if somebody phones me for 5 minutes this also nearly drains my battery, and I have everything also turned off. (WLAN, Blutooth, Data, GPS etc).
So dont know why this is suddenly heavy on the battery as it never seemed to do this when first installed.
There you have it, your not alone but think I will migrate to another or buy another phone as I think its pathetic to have to charge one's phone everyday, or twice a day if you chat to somebody for 5 minutes as it defeats the purpose.

I got my brand new battery and even charged it up via Power Supply from the wall.
Have run the phone only on 2G network only box ticked and everything else turned off (and I mean nearly everything) and for whatever reason, the Battery new or old still does not last long.
Even after it charges to 99% says its charged, it discharges very fast, or if somebody phones you and you only talk for 2 minutes the battery drops to like near 30% which is pathetic.
Something is sucking the life out of the battery folks with these Rom's so can somebody exactly put the food on the table here and say, whats up?

What ROM are you using? It takes some time to charge up the battery and even if it says '99%' that doesn't always mean that it is. What is the capacity of the battery? I'd say charge it for about 6 hours and see then.
Thanks Johnny,
Problem at present seems to be solved now.
Yesterday and before I had been using Mur4ik's CM7 2.0 RC4.
I then uninstalled a stack of apps that I only used every so often and now its like back to normal so I guess it must have been those apps installed.
Folks here is a big tip. Uninstall Apps to test your battery to find out which one is the Energy Hog because even if you are not using them, they seem to be running due to either bad programming of the app or a system management issue related connection between the two.
Now, I have just updated to Mur4ik's CM7 2.0 RC5 and will certainly think twice prior to installing a bunch of things for the sake of installing apps.
Cheers people~!

Necus 4 battery issue

Hello,
Im having so much problem from my nexus4 phone .
Phone gets turned off suddenly even when I charge it full and then i need to connect to charger and turn it on then battery will be 50percent low from 95percent.
Also when ever phone battery is low my network drops completely. And then reconnects to netowk and then again disconnects continues until I plug in.
It lasts hardly few hours.
I did spin test and battery is also fine.
I also formatted, installed official ROM but nothing helps .
I used battery stats and all to find if any app is spoiling it. But no apps are spoiling my battery.
Please help
Thank you.
Although the spin test was fine, I do believe that this is still a battery issue. I would recommend purchasing a new OEM battery and installing that, and then flashing a completely stock ROM using fastboot, then testing.
Just be careful when you take it apart. My N4 battery was behaving really badly, not holding a charge for very long, shutting down even though the indicator said 30% remaining, etc.
Pulled off the (freshly cracked) back cover, and I had a case of FBS (fat battery syndrome). Seems as though the thing was on its last legs. You should definitely take some time to research the relevant safety precautions you should take (I should have looked this up, but didn't).
I ended up removing it and replacing it with an OEM battery I ordered from Amazon, the percentage calibration still isn't the most accurate, however it holds a significantly better charge now.
Are we both having the same issue?

Battery drains fast and is always warm even after a battery change

[TL;DR]
Phone battery suddenly drains faster than usual, drains to 0% overnight. Problem still persist even after April update and after battery change. Can't find any solutions. Help me.
Hey, so about a week ago something very strange happened to my Mi A1 and got worse overtime. So what happened was my battery went from 80+% to 0% overnight. I woke up confused and just recharged it and didn't think too much. After a full charge, I noticed the battery drains abit more than usual and had to plug it in constantly. Before going to bed I charged my phone to 100% to see if it would drain to 0% again. It did. As time passes the problem gets worst. The phone started getting warm when charging (around 40+°C up to 50°C) then after a while the phone runs warm even when not charging (never goes below 40°C). My phone always used to run at about 30-35°C even when charging. I changed the battery myself because there was no warranty on it but it didn't fix the problem. However it did help abit. The battery drains ever so slightly slower now but still drains to 0% overnight. It still runs warm but now it does go below 40°C (rarely). Before and after the battery change, the discharging rate is about 700mA and sometimes reaches 1000+mA (used an app called Ampere, not too sure how accurate it is). The phone was also warmer than usual when charging even when the phone was off (before and after the battery change). I tried factory resetting to see if that does anything but had no luck. I also tried using a Wakelock detector app to see if there was an app excessively triggering a wakelock but all seemed normal. I even tried downloading a "battery calibration app" which obviously didn't work. So I feel like it's a hardware problem.
Now here's what I did and did not do to the phone before the problem happened. What I did was I do charge the phone quite alot most of the time. What I mean by that is when it hits about 30% I'll plug it in but I never leave it plugged in after a full charge or charge it overnight and I seldom let the battery drain to below 10%. Even so, the phone never got warm like how it is now. That's about all I did to it. Now what I didn't do was, I never tried to install custom ROMs or root/modify my phone in anyway except for the post about how to enable 4G+ which didn't work for me.. My phone is completely stock. I also didn't install any new apps from the playstore or from any 3rd party sites nor were there any updates for any apps installed in my phone. I've had the same apps installed for a couple of months before this happened. I also haven't dropped my phone for a couple of months. I only dropped it less than 5 times from short heights and I have a very rugged case on. I also didn't use any 3rd party chargers. I'm still using the charging brick and cable that came with the phone. I have tried using other chargers that are 2A but no luck. So basically I didn't do anything out of the ordinary prior to this problem.
Just some extra information
1. The hottest part of the phone is at the top right corner of the back. I assume the CPU is there (?).
2. It happened before the April update. It was the same before and after the April update.
3. Phone is running on Android Pie if that wasn't clear
4. The phone is only 10 months old
5. My phone is the Global ROM version
6. Performance wise, its still responsive and snappy. Doesn't lag or freeze or anything.
6. I always have mobile data on and use it as hotspot for my laptop at uni. I have been using it like that for the past 9 months. However the problem happened when I was at home during sem break so I was mostly connected to Wi-Fi.
Sorry for such a long post. I hope somewhere out there, there is someone who can help me or other people that have a similar problem so we can fix it.
Thanks.
In the upper right corner, should be the modem area.
Try holding the phone on airplane mode during the night and monitor drain.
Also, try changing the SIM slot and do an APN reset. If this fails too, try changing your SIM card or if u can, try another operator SIM.
If you changed any value with QXDM PRO , try and put back the default values.
Good luck
