Need Help with process of updating OPT. Rooted, Xposed, SU, TWRP - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend of mine who moved country helped me root my OPT a while back and i never knew how to update it myself..now i'm running into problems such as apps not being able to run on my phone because its outdated. What i need to know is the process to updating my OPT because i don't want to break it as i cannot afford a phone right now.
Current Phone Details:
OnePlus 2
Android Version: 5.1.1
Oxygen Version: 2.2.0
Xposed 3.1.1
SU Pro v2.82
TWRP
So Far from reading i'm assuming i have to do the following steps but i'm unsure if it's correct or if im missing a step:
1. Place the "OnePlus2Oxygen_14_OTA_032_all_1710240102.zip" on my OPT device
2. Turn off SU via app on phone
3. Uninstall Xposed
2. Reboot into TWRP Recovery
3. Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Flash OnePlus2Oxygen_14_OTA_032_all_1710240102.zip
5. Flash SU
6. Install Xposed
I just want to update everything without breaking my phone so if the above is correct/incorrect i'd appreciate the info. so if there is a process or step by step guide i'd really appreciate it because i'm not so good on the subject. Thank you kindly for any helpful reply

Pretty good instructions? I'm dancing around threads all over. I can't seem to get twrp onto a lollipop build. If I have twrp installed and try to manually go to LP from kk I get a bootloop the last few tries. If I have lp installed I can't seem to get autorec to respond, no matter which cfsu.
@blastagator:
Can you possibly list your steps for cwm and working magisk on your d800? Maybe I need to wipe all but internal, install lp bootstack in twrp-updated to one of your newer versions, install cwm? Is it clean from there to magisk and phhsu, magisk hide, phhapp? Will I need bumpboot ever for this?

I do not use CWM, so I can't help you with that.
Basic Sequence (assuming starting from completely stock):
Use your favorite rooting tool - OneClick Root still works (I think)
Then install AutoRec (appropriate version for your ROM)
That gets you TWRP - boot TWRP with the key combo
Flash newest TWRP - reboot recovery
Flash bootstack to match new ROM (LP for LP or MM)
Advanced wipe, wipe /data, /system, /cache, /sd, /dalvik
Reboot Recovery
Copy new ROM to phone
Install new ROM
Reboot phone, profit
for magisk, flash magisk zip and then flash boot bump zip
IMPORTANT: If ROM has built-in su (like CM13 DOES) you need to delete that from the device.
I'd recommend deleting these BEFORE installing magisk (but I don't know if it actually matters)
For CM13, enable root in the developer menu
use your favorite console app
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
rm /system/xbin/su
rm /system/bin/su
Some ROMs might have an su file in /sbin and you might need to remount / as rw to remove that. For CM13 it is just those two files.

Ahh cm is just the recovery not the rom, you use it and not twrp? The newest twrp for g2d800 is yours...twrp-d800-bump-blastagator?? What rom do you use? Will I be able to transfer files to the phone after wiping? I guess it stays in recovery after a wipe...just not used to that I guess.
Get twrp, flash bootstack...from you, wipe all, push my rom, flash rom, boot to phone. Experience my first ever custom os for a bit....Remove su with adb, boot to recovery, magisk, bump, phhsu zip, boot to phone. Install magisk 2.1, enable hide, reboot, phhsu app, ???, profit.
1. How can I thank ALL your posts ever?
2. Cwm nightly is the rom, the other is the recovery?

Recovery lives in /recovery partition, so I guess I should clarify, don't wipe EVERYTHING, lol. I can't remember if I enabled ability to wipe recovery, DONT DO THAT :silly:
edit: Advanced wipe, wipe /data, /system, /cache, /sd, /dalvik
But, as for everything else, recovery will live through wiping /system /data, etc. You need to backup anything you want to save though. Wipe will destroy everything.
Other than that, you pretty much got the rest.
edit 2: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d800
See image for ROM vs CM Recovery.
CWM = Clockwork Mod (a different recovery)
CM = CyanogenMod (a ROM)

Haha I may have noticed that during the process. The bumpbootv1.0 is the one to use for even these newer methods?? That was what q2 really was supposed to be. I keep mentioning you because I assume it helps you see my posts, I assume your pretty busy. Some of those posts and files are rom when the g2 was almost new lol thanks seriously for getting back so fast I wish I could help this community more but I'm a skid
EDIT: awesome, I have to run all Internet functions off of the sprint lte network and was downloading one of those behemoths during that posts....that let's me know my efforts aren't in vain

Please read my edits and don't kill your phone. I am not always so timely in my responses :good:
Other than that, good luck!
There are tons of posts that go into more detail about what I wrote. Just make sure you have a plan before you do it. Think: Measure twice, cut once.
This g2 I found service locked while cleaning out a rental property. I have a galaxy s5 stupid sprint for my primary. I use the g2 for...well everything game and other related. until my Hotspot mod on my galaxy suddenly stopped working on lp. I blame the man

Didn't work...steps followed what OS do you use? Do you use you d80030b or something else? No sn or pgo
If I update autorec twrp to your 3.0.2-1 will it hold through a manual FOTA update to 5.0? I use GPS system app for location. Is it possible moving to system then unrooting causes these bootloops and such? My g2 passes sn but I cm and gApps is causing issues? Logged into sc, pass sn, no pgo

CM13.
If you're trying to get safety net to work, you have to enable magisk hide (in the magisk app)
Also, if you're using xposed, you can't use safety net.
@blastagator
Yeah done and done. Only things I can figure is installed the application side of phh su last, and gaps after being phh rooted.? I'm gonna check for su files with es here shortly. Safety net passes, snapchat works, just not pgo
Enabled hide after installing application and got root access when ticking hide. Literally the only thing that won't work is pgo, haven't tried android pay yet
No xposed I bought a way around that, not causing the issue because I haven't installed it on the d800

If the safety net test app passes, it should be working. perhaps downgrade your pogo a version or two, maybe they added something else.
Well, it's on a WiFi only, no SIM device...
I'm thinking this is the issue I'm experiencing now. Which may stem from an update. An older apk is a good idea, I was able to log on with magisk v6 a bit a go and when magisk 7 and 8 first came out I could.

Magisk is basically another root manager like supersu, but instead it can be toggled on and off on the go, so that apps that check for root binaries, would work again. But if you don't have such apps installed, then there is no point of installing magisk, because you already have supersu installed.

First uninstall supersu by going into the app and selecting the complete removal of root. Then download phh's superuser and flash Magisk in the recovery and that's it.
Need help with Magisk v12 installation
Hi guys,
I have been trying to flash Magisk v12 on my S7 edge (SM-G935FD) without super su, in hopes of using Magisk Su but I keep receiving ERROR: 1 in TWRP when it is trying to mount SU.
I am using a stock Rom and have performed a clean wipe in TWRP, but still cannot get Magisk v12 zip to install without the error 1 message. Appreciate if someone can enlighten me on how to over come this issue.

Then try to download it from the Google playstore
magisk 12 has super user incorporated into it.
first make sure that you back up your phone using smart switch as you will be dealing the data on your phone as part of the installation process.
1. you need to make sure that you have flashed a stock and cleaned boot image to your phone.
2. enter TWRP and wipe data
3. while still in TWRP flash the magisk 12 zi[p which you have stored on phone or sd card
4. reboot and magisk and root should be on your phone.
5. reintsall your data only from the back up you made.
total time needed depending on how mich data you have could take up to 20 minutes.

Thank you for your reply and step by step instructions. I followed and everything is working flawlessly. I'm now trying to figure out how to fake Knox 0x0 as mentioned in the changelog, so I can use Samsung Pay and other banking services. If you do have any idea, please do share and let me know.
Cheers and have a great weekend.

Confused New User

My device is due soon and been going through the forum preparing myself. I am a bit confused though and would appreciate some help.
1- TWRP
From my other devices N5, 5T etc flash TWRP and you're on your way.
With this device it's Fastboot boot into regular TWRP wipe, then into deadman's TWRP to install ROM. Other instructions mention going into partition A then to B. Is permanent TWRP install not suitable for this device?
2-Root & Magsik
It seems that everything on this device is dependent on using Magsik for one thing or the other. I prefer to use SU as it always works with my setup. I'm not interested in safetynet. Do i really need to use Magsik?
After ROM install I use Xposed, SU, Xprivacy Lua, Titanium pro, Tasker.
Thanks.

Casual racism was deleted
I found this for you, hope it provides some info, also try forcing Google to give you results with kws like "SuperSU" and "su" by placing them inside quotes "" and by adding a + in front of a keyword.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/cf-auto-root-september-update-t3681024
1. You can Install TWRP permanently
As there is no separate recovery partition
fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img command will fail
So you need to temporarily boot your phone to TWRP first n then make it permanent (Optional)
2. You can use SuperSu, technically there shouldn't be any problem as bothe Magisk and SuperSu patches Boot Image (haven't tested though)
Thank you for your replies.
Managed to install TWRP and decided to stick with stock for now, but install of Xposed fails. Now looking to solve that.
Bought this device because it was cheap. If Xposed install fails will return it.
I have made a guide to simplify the installation procedure: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/lineageos-gapps-magisk-twrp-dolbyatmos-t3762939/
If you want to stay on stock, you can skip the LineageOS related stuff.
Thread cleaned
Lets be honest, this is a development site, lets keep the racism out of here.

HELP OP5 won't OTA update after root.

Hello all awesome members, i have searched google, xda and even bing for answers but none have answerd me yet.
So i have an OP5 wich is running Oxygen os 5.1.2 and now i want to update it to the latest.
Things i have tried:
Download and update through the phone updater: Fail
Recovery manager: Fail
ADB sideload: Fail.
To be clear i don't care if i loose root i just want my phone back to fully stock.
So how do i get there? what am i missing?
Can you tell us more details, what ROOT method you are use? If you are using TWRP + Magisk, it's easy to update. Just download Full Update (not OTA) mostly OnePlus 5 will detected if our device ROOTED then will download Full ROM.
Then Goes to Custom Recover, Clear Cache dan Dalvi, install Full Update ROM and flash Magisk again and done

What is update process for OP6T 9.0.16 > 10.3.3 rooted [Global]

I have OP6T OxygenOS 9.0.16 and I would like to update it to the latest 10.3.3 with root.
What should be my process of doing so? I have not been in touch with rooting for the past 3 years so I don't want to mess things up. Another note is that while I am on OxygenOS 9.0.16 I tried to root it which was failed, but now few banking and calling apps such as TextNow thinks that my phone is rooted and they can not run -- but my phone is not properly rooted according to root verification apps.
Please tell me how should I do the update to the latest version from this point and then I would like to unlock bootloader and install recovery and root it as well.
Please advice.
BTW my OP6T is global

Flash OOS full rom zip on both slots using TWRP also flash TWRP installer zip on both slots reboot recovery flash magisk reboot system. Easy peasy.
Example:
Boot recovery: fastboot boot twrp.img
flash OOS 10.3.3 full rom zip
flash TWRP installer zip, reboot recovery,
flash OOS 10.3.3 full rom zip, format data, wipe data,
flash TWRP installer zip
Reboot recovery, flash magisk,
reboot system.
Note: I use a USB stick. I flash magisk zip off my USB stick.
That's what I do when I use OOS on my 6t far as installation goes.

Are you sure there is no need to update to 9.0.17 and then 10.3.3?
I've asked once and someone said that 9.0.17 is neccessary before update to 10.3.x.
Also there is option to flash from system without losing magisk modules:
1. Flash manually from update center (do not reboot)
2. Enter magisk and flash to another slot (after OTA)
3. Flash TWRP installer like magisk module
4. Reboot
But I'm not sure if I remember it correctly.

I have a T-Mobile SIM unlock OnePlus 6t and I converted it to an international model so when my conversation was done I was on OOS 9.0.1.1 and I booted TWRP and installed 10.3.4 full rom on both slots and also recovery installer and all just like my previous posts stated and everything went fine. I used mauronofrio's TWRP the version just before the latest 3.4xx when I did this.
I always download quite a bit of various firmwares and also TWRP versions before I start flashing things just in case something goes wrong I already have other things maybe I can use and I don't have to stop and wait for some download to finish... And I'm quite sure you know this but definitely make a backup of everything beforehand to USB or transfer it to your pc just in case you end up needing it as a precaution.
Edit added:
I am assuming that you already unlocked your bootloader... I believe everyone knows to do that that's on XDA forums before you can do anything to any device .. I say this after reading post below me here. I guess I should have said that earlier but I just assume everyone knows that on the forums... My bad. ??
From fastboot on Linux PC:
sudo fastboot oem unlock (then hit enter on keyboard) use volume keys to move to unlock option and your Power button to select it and confirm. For more info see: https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t-unlock-bootloader-root/
Super easy to unlock bootloader just remember it does wipe your device clean so move anything to want to PC or USB stick first...
I would think you could just update oxygenOS to latest then re-root no? Assuming your already bootloader unlocked which it seems like would be the case if you have an obsolete magisk installation.
Edit: re-reading your post maybe it is not unlocked as you failed to root. In this case just unlock then flash the latest fastboot image and then magisk as others have already stepped you through. You will lose data when you unlock so backup first.
So if I'm on 9.0.16 I could flash latest OOS directly from TWRP and then flash magisk? And no data loss? Of course I'm rooted with bootloader unlocked.

However, you need not pay anybody anything. If you are on stock, I would've recommended you upgrading it via Oxygen updater (a 3rd party app on the play store) and then using the latest recoveries (TWRP 3.4) and flashing it via Fastboot mode.
It is super easy.
