First of all: Thank you all so very much for being such a supportive community, and thank you, quarx, for your great builds!
Now, I have been using my Defy for almost two years as of now and have always had CM on it. I switched to 10.1 yesterday and I really am pleased, to say the least. It only came to my realization a few days ago, that more "modern" phones are a LOT more performant than the Defy.
So my question is: How does the use of your phone feel?
How long does it take to start the camera? How responsive is it in everyday tasks? How long does it take for your Defy to open up the Keyboard?
Thanks a lot for your impression,
steinerlein
Its a mediocre phone been in market for more than 2 yrs. and the way things changed with Android, yes its a slow performer compared to almost every popular phone in the market. However when it comes to daily usage and usual tasks, it still doesn't disappoint.
Frequent lags are there sometimes but nothing that makes it unusable. It just performs 'fine' for me.
Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk 2
When using external apps such as Seeder and Greenify the lag isn't too irritating.
Loading the phone/messaging/camera usually take a while which is irritating; but as already mentioned it's an old phone and I'm glad we've managed to get JellyBean on it
I love it
Hi ... i had this phone about 2 yrs ago and if you know how to use it ... you will never go wrong ... performance wise...
If i leave it with my wife all day long she will use The defy instead of the Pc ... Youtube, googling etc ... she likes it
As a matter of fact i am going to buy another Defy+ for me soon and leave my old one to me wife lol
yeah there is sometimes it does its stupid things .. but if u know how to work around things ..IT OBEYS YOU .... joking
i remember when 1st i learned about CM7 and stuff ... i didnt know how todo things and I upgraded BL1 to maybe BL6 and somehow recently i upgraded to BL7 .... too late though .... but it stills works and performs brilliantly With JellyBean ...
hello dear xda community!
it has been a while since i was last here.
i owned a gs2 but made the move to ios with iphone 5 and currently use iphone 6.
I am considering buying note 4 (c variant with exynos)!mostly for the great screen ,battery life and not overheating( almost all other androids can cook your hand)
i lurked around here to do some digging and i keep seeing members having big problems with battery drains, overheating and slow down...( i will be skipping on note 5 as it will not come to europe and mostly because of no removable battery-micro sd)
have i missed something? is the big res scree bogging down the phone?
owning an iphone, performance is a given for me.
Please share your honest views since you own the device and help me make the move!
got sick of same damn thing and restrictions (ios)
My best advice to you would be stick with iOS. I own Note 4. Previously owned lots of flagship android phones and before that iPhone 3GS, 4S and 5S. I will shift to 6S when it will be available in my country because I am tired of bloated SW solutions from big firms and sick of flashing custom roms that almost never match the performanco of camera with stock. iOS is still the best SW you can get and I will stick with it for a while.
Regarding android IMHO Note 4 is the best you can hope taking other 2015 flahships in mind that are not worth the upgrade specialy with SD 810, no microSD and non-replacable battery that is getting smaller and smaller despite constant *****ing about it's insufficiencuy. With latest 5.1.1 it is realy fast, takes great pictures and battery life is awsome. I have no problems with it and till now it is as close to iOS experience as it gets.

For the OP!
Stick whit IOS my friend ....
My 910f is realy awsome whit 5.1.1, no overheat, no lag and superb battery, but ios much much better in stabiliti and before android 5.1.1 it has better performance.
you see, the thing is..what made me consider moving was the hideous battery life (iphone battery is epic bad-like..bards would sing of its loussiness).
and couple more every day stuff that really halt your schedule( try attaching two different file types-say 1 xls+1pdf on same mail in ios)
i guess i was hoping that it would be better with note 4, but from what you guys say it lacks stability on a very profound level..

hi ,
i guess there always 2 sides to a story . ?
I have a Note2 , Note3, and ... Note4 ( ........cannot say anything much, about Note5 ..!!)
All my devices battery ( removable ) life is good/acceptable , no overheating , smooth running and customized to my liking !!!!!! This is what i want and enjoying it .!!
I do not own a Iphone and thus cannot say much about it .!!
(Yes ,i have "played around " a few times ,with a Iphone in the phone shops and know its overall feel and workings )
Everytime i just put it down and say no i am happy with my Note4 .
All i can say is , in the end it is "what you want from your device...its you choice ."
So is it an an option ..... to have/own both ?
i want freedom of choice, ( customize etc ) and cannot see myself been tied down .
My message is only ,there nothing "wrong " with Note4
Hardware ,specs , removable battery and to do real multitasking on a device ? ...etc
Also i am on Android v 5.1.1 and device working very, very smooth .No issues .
However i have noticed some forum members have /had certain issues
good luck with your choice .
post entry
my observation of reading post and " my opinion" ,
regarding battery drainage in Note 4 is that a some members have either
3rd party apps or wrong settings or some" mod/theme " on phone responsible for this ( yes, i know not always ) eg facebook, whatsapp , gps location enable ,data always on ,etc... in some setting etc ( battery drainers ) or just badly coded apps or games .sucking away on battery.I had Note4 since October 2014 and had odd battery drain and always ( when investigating ) found 3rd party app or mod eg Xposed framework or module etc responsible for this .
Bottom line ,
is you only read mostly in threads, when members have a "problem " and hardly read post of members that is happy with performance/etc of device ?
good..this is what i want to hear..opinions based on real owner experiences!
just one more question!
is it true that since knox , i cannot root the device without it being permanently recorded? i mean, i remember being to erase such things on gs2 with stuff like triangle away app.. i dont care for flashing roms, rather than using my paid titanium app, adaway, root explorer and be able to freeze bloatware.

hi,
yes, thats overall true eg. if you use dev @ chainfire CF auto root it will trip Knox.(this CF auto root method, is what i used overall. except in Android v5.1.1 it does not work so i used another method ) However you do get certain root
methods that won't trip Knox.
Don't ask me what method as i really was never interested in rooting this way.
My personal opinion of Knox is.. i see it as a "bogey man" it does not worry me as i got no interest in Knox features. .. or the attitude... "o what is Samsung warranty going to say.?"
That said...
I do however respect other members view on Knox.!
I wanted to enjoy my user experience and rooted my device way back in October 2014... never looked back.
My viewpoint is,
If something "happens" well then it "happens" an i will deal with it accordingly or get another device.
I just wanted you to get my viewpoint over, that overall Note4 is a very, very capable device..good at multi tasking, good battery use (overall) no overheating issues and very smooth and fast (just tweak right)
Good luck with your choice
to be honest as long as it works and battery performs , i am happy camper..i am familiar with androids plus and minuses..
I wouldn't get it now. On its stock rom the dpi is way too high, everything is so big on the screen and there is no added real estate from a phone such as the S6. As for performance I've never been happy (N910F) until 5.1, but on 5.1 I can't use per app dpi. Do not throw your money at Samsung, opt for a Moto (or even the new Sony Z5 series), they're much more consistent performers. You could even wait for the new Nexus 5 or 6 coming out next month which will have biometric sensors. The one on the Note 4 sucks haha.
If you want to use the Samsung apps then stay with Touchwiz and root it, I would currently recommend using this ROM
I know you said that you are not into flashing ROMs but I would recommend that you give CM a chance or if you want extra personalization then try other custom roms.

i'd have no problem with flashing but custom roms never really get the camera app right or work well with ril files etc..
CM is very far from my taste although it has a sink ful of features.
i am almost set with giving up the iphone 6 for note 4.
just gonna wait till ios 9 gets previewed on wensday.
cant wait for a note 4 like battery, coming from i6.

I was not really happy with my Note 4 N910C until 5.1.1 came around.
More happy when I installed a stock pre-rooted ROM from Wanam and ultimate kernel then installed Note 5 theme and multi dpi for app.
My phone is very fast now, great battery too!

Hi guys,
It's time for me to replace my old phone. I am not brand conscious but I would like to know from every day users of the phone about their experience and how they see it compared to mainstream offerings. My benchmark is, if it's as good as Note 3 or even S4 it's ok for me.
So how does it's
1) Batterly life : I heard it drains alot of battery even in standby, but how good/bad is it?
2) Screen quality
3) Sound and speaker quality: I read some people complain that it's speakers were very bad and if the phone is not close we may not hear it ring? I also read on the gsm arena review that with headphones the sound quality is very poor. I like to listen to audio books/ economist's e reader when I walk..
Can I install google apps?
Any chance we can get cyanogenmod for this phone in some time?
1) One - two days
2) Very good
3) Speaker are very loud
4) Yes you can install Google Apps
5) in some time but sure why not
Gesendet von meinem Redmi Note 2 mit Tapatalk
hey,
i'm in the same situation. I've read around a bit and some sites recommend to check if you have the original xiaomi rom or any other rom modified by the vendor you bought. For example check if the "Mi Remote App" is installed (should be there in the original) or if you have a strange version, i.e. "MIUI Version 66.66.77" does not exist officially.
B.
1) Batterly life : OS problem, now 1 day standby; 1 hr if you play games
2) Screen quality : Not bad, not made by SHARP, but today's technology is good enough
3) Sound and speaker quality: If you compare with S6 / G4 / Z3+, definitely Note2 sucks, it is not hi-fi or boombox, OK quality.
4) Can I install google apps? Yes, but not for noob who knows nothing about TWRP ZIP files
5) Any chance we can get cyanogenmod for this phone in some time? Probably no

Is there a patch? or a good stable alternate rom? I mean only 1 hour with games! that means like 2 hours watching movies etc.
Also: are the dimensions similar to any major smartphone? so I can buy case for body and screen.

1) Battery Life: 4 Hours On Screen Time and Idle drains nearly nothing (10h since last charge, 1h and 10min screen on and i have 72% left also over night with nothing turned off just lost 3%)
2) Screen Quality is good enough for me, some people say, that the black is more gray than black, but i dont think so
3) The speaker is very loud and the quality is quit good, especially for this price
4) Google Apps is no problem at all.
Great, thanks. One thing I haven't read is it's GPS system, they haven't compromised on that, h ave they? I use my gps alot

GPS works perfectly, often locks in just a couple of seconds.
Some people experience various sound glitches, especially without audio buffering adjustment. Does anyone have this problem or it's limited to specific rom versions?
Thanks.

Fix inside a building takes between 4 to 10 seconds. Outside nearly everytime 4 seconds. I don't think you will get something better.
I received my Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 , three days ago. In beginning i was happy after few hours of use, but time was passing and i discover many bad things. The battery drain so fast. Before i have Meizu Mx 5 which keep me battery 3 times more than this. Second thing, i cannot connect this phone to my car, even before i connect with xiaomi mi3, mi4i, meizu mx5, samsung, etc. This one is looking like is not compatible. The applications become sometimes stuck, I believe due RAMS. after i use cleaner, its ok. Now i will try to change the version . I have 66.77.33.00(LHMCNCH) stable. Somebody knows if is original version?
battery battery and again battery! no one say that display drain battery soo f** *fast that max screen on time is about 4 ours. theres no update that can solve that!
My phone came with a strange chinese rom 666.777
or something like that. Not stable. Lot of chinese menus etc.
Now i have installed latest Xiaomi.EU weekly.
A lot better. Easy to install with update app.
With the right software this phone is very good.
Thanks

That version is a bloatware-bundled Rom, flashed in the phones by the resellers, that works very very bad.
@adelix Please, download official version from http://en.miui.com (if you want only english language) or http://xiaomi.eu if you want also other languages. Our device codename is Hermes, remember to select correct file during the download.
Then rename the file update.zip, move it on Internal Memory, go to MiRecovery mode, wipe all data and select install from update.zip
If you want you can install a custom recovery like TWRP that is more smart
Every week (exept this week because of holidays in China) an update is released. So don't worry, the battery life will be increased, this phone has only a few weeks
Thank you for your advise. I have installed now xiaomi.eu_multi_hermes_5.9.24_v7-5.0 . The phone is completely changed now. Battery life increased and now i can connect my phone to the car by bluetooth . No more lags also. I start to love this phone.
It's horrible when a powerful hardware (i read somewhere that is in the top 10 of the most powerful phone at the moment) is wasted by terrible software modded by resellers to sell a multilanguage version. Much people don't know that this phone is sold with a strange firmware and that you have to change it in order to get it fully working... So bad..

I have the same rom, how did you install EU weekly rom? please enlighten me
if you are used to a SAMOLED screen almost all other screens pale in comparison.
that said, the new generation of IPS LCD screens are all quite good, even those used in Chinese phones.
i don't have a Redmi Note 2 (yet, it's on the way from china...) but we do have a Redmi 1s and a MI3 and the screens are ok.
I had Samsung Galaxy S1, S3, S4, Note 1, Note 4 and the screens are just amazing. the Note 4's screen is completely out of competition, there is absolutely nothing that comes even close.
otherwise i have to say that the Xiaomi phones are incredible value for money, even with the reseller markups.

Hi
As i understand 5.9.24 is the latest.
You vill find it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=40163
I used the updater (ota App) found in the crappy unstable "stock" rom (full of bloat, that came with the phone).
Codename for our phone is "Hermes"
Use button up on right side in update app to choose the zip file you downloaded.
Remember you have to go to security ( its an app, did not find it in settings ) to allow root.
Thanks

Hi Everyone,
I'll keep this short...I've had my Note 4 for about 10 months now. Generally I have to say I feel that I've been living in denial, I love the device from a HW perspective and also the S Pen features however the SW is just too damn clunky, laggy and slow. Right now there is 1 to 2 second delay before it responds to any gestures + this can be up to 5 seconds when launching the camera for example. Also when playing music via Bluetooth it is very choppy and cuts in and out of the track being played (I have tried this on more than 1 Bluetooth device and its the same). When updating to Lollipop it seems that the experience hasn't got better, infact probably worse. I've loaded another launcher (Nova launcher) to see if the problem was touchwiz however its still the same. Lastly I've reset the device to factory 3 times now, which helps however it doesn't take long for it to get back to its usual clunky self. With all of this in mind, I am seriously considering moving on to another premium device however I wanted to throw this out there to you all to see if there was anyone else who had experienced the same issues and even better had a resolution.
Should I root the device and install another rom or simply move on???
Any help is much appreciated in advance.
Thanks,
OB
Try root and try a rom. There are a few out there that have been through the paces

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a 910F, sucessfully fully rooted it today. I am looking for a fast and reliable ROM which also has the S Pen features. Can anyone recommend one instead of trial and error. Must be 910F variant.
Lastly, do I need to do something to a bootloader or something in order to load the ROM? Apologies if that's a stupid question...I am still quite new to this and learning.
Thanks,

What about your battery performance? I have the same model and it's very bad!!!
I had the same feeling when I got my N910F a couple of months ago (coming from a Note 2 which I felt was more responsive and snappy than the Note 4).
But then I upgraded from the original 5.0.1 to stock 5.1.1 and it's like having a new phone; no more lag, or stutter or delays. This is what the Note 4 should have been like from the beginning.
So I suggest you try first upgrading to stock 5.1.1, no root and Knox intact at 0x0.

My battery last around 9 hours with 3 hours SOT with very heavy use :
Youtube
Radio streaming
Music
Gaming
Many syncs (Outlook, Yahoo mail, Gmail, ICQmail, Instagram, Twitter, BBM, Periscope, Skype, Instructible, Facebook, Facebook messenger, Whatsapp, Line, G+, Path, GTalk, Hangouts, Mega, Dropbox, 4Shared, Box, Drive, Onedrive, Youtube, Sing!, and many more)
For Cloud storage I sync some folder on access using FolderSync.
Downloads
Web browsing for around 1 hours
Some note taking.
WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth is always ON
With medium usage it can lasts for around 13-16 hours.
With light usage it can lasts for 18 -20 hours
With very light usage it can lasts 34 hours max (only standby+music+5 minutes web browsing).
It used to be 42 hours during very light usage, but it's been 1 year so the battery is degrading.
I didn't mention phone call because many of my family members & friends use BBM/Whatsapp/Line/Skype to call me.
I only use a real phone call for less than 15 minutes a day so it's negligible.

Audiophile? And you listen to music on Youtube?
Only a few people have battery problems though. I'm getting around 5 hours SOT without effort.
The AKM DAC is used by every app, except maybe youtube. But the AKM DAC is used by everything in LineageOS and ROMs based on it. So I recommend that you jump ship to custom ROMs if you buy one. Then install Magisk and V4A. Atmos is not really necessary if you have V4A.
You'll have to buy used or find someone with stock since they're not produced anymore.
Where did you find that stock player battery thing?? Of course the AK4490 DAC consumes more than the other one, but not so much... It's barely noticeable.
And don't use the stock player. Use Poweramp or at least another player. The stock player is capable of 96kHz/16 bit but it's not good. Neutron does 192kHz/24 bit.

Not sure what do you have running in the background - might be an idea to do factory reset first? My Axon7 is literally flying with the usual suspects (Facebook, Whatsup, Messenger, Outlook) running, and they are not light on the system.
It's a great phone. Had a Note 8 for a week recently but returned it. I prefer my Axon and specially the screen which I find to be much better (way more color correct). Note 8 had nasty oversaturated colors that looked very unrealistic. Plus the sound in headphones crushed the Note 8 which sounds directly bad in comparison. Only the camera on the Note 8 is better. Axon is way nicer in the hand too with metal instead of glas.

I think there are some members who come on with software issues that colour their experience badly. I'm glad I found the A7 late and didn't go through the MM times on it. I was still on my Mate 7 then. Still a good phone but the A7 smokes it. I just un-modded and reverted the Mate 7 to completely stock. That felt weird as it was a long process modding it to where it was at. The urge to mod the axon is there but it's really good stock and I need complete reliability and no root but I'd so like to debloat the junk out of the system that I don't use. I don't want to do that whilst we get updates from ZTE.

Those are only your problems. Except the cellular and wifi, that is known
I've got the Axon G, stock Rom (Nougat B09), no lag, no freeze, no problem with WiFi, or reception, and quite a good SOT.
A very good smartphone with no problem for me.
I use Friendly instead of facebook and messenger. But I have a lot of heavy apps and games.
So yes, the Axon7 is still relevant and a great musicphone.
