I really like PrivacyGuard, it's a great LOS feature.
But each time I use it, it makes me wanna scream and shout.
The long press in the app list, to get to the settings for a particular app ... totally wrong imho - I lost track of how often I accidentally toggled the lock! (because I short pressed on an entry in the app list instead of long)
It also makes quickly working through the list impossible.
Why isn't it like this:
Short press EXACTLY on the lock/trust symbol: toggles it
Short press anywhere else: go to that apps settings
?

Does anyone know how to enable applock feature again in 8.1 oreo? It seems that it is gone with "trust" ... Sadly ... I loved it!

Hi,
Would it be possible for someone here to create an app with the ability to solve the "only power-button activates the lock screen after standby" issue?
I'm thinking that this would be something a lot of Desire owners would see come in handy.
I would look into it myself, but not being a developer by profession my coding skills are zero. I've tried the app 'No Lock', but it just doesnt do it for me as my Desire wakes up in my pocket with the lockscreen deactivated.
(Couldn't find another thread regarding this, so forgive me if it's already been posted before.)

There is an app already called "myLock" which has an advanced mode that allows you to double press any button to unlock the screen, just don't use it with the HTC pattern lock as it messes up.
+1 for this.
Btw, you can try LockBot. It is neat, but the disadvantage is that once you get a call, the lock deactivates, which is plain irritating. If you are carrying your cell in your pocket and you receive a call, it might happen that not only the call gets answered/rejected but it can start dialing some random numbers as well! has happened to me once.
So its not perfect, but it works ok.
I just hated pressing the power button every time i had to unlock the phone.
Thanks. This is actually a usefull tool, and does the job well. However, i'd still like a tool that lets me choose a specific button for activating the unlock slider screen, as id like to keep the slider.
But thanks for the advice.

I've been using myLock for a few days now and updated this morning. I don't see the advanced features.
It's under mode select for me, press where it says auto unlock.
I believe this is what you want.
I press the menu button to wake up the phone, and menu or slide to unlock it.

I believe this would work only if your phone is rooted?
Excuse me about my ignorance... its been one hour im going through the menus and it started to pissing me off....
i somehow disabled the phone icon on the ADW launcher. Anyone can tell me how to enable it again?
dialer icon more correctly
You should be able to drag and drop the icon to the dock.

not sure wat ur talkin about but i think if u hold down on ur desktop... pick activity...create custom shortcut... click activities... scroll down to dialer. let me know if ur talkin about something else.
Thanks for your replies.
See Screenshot below to see for which icon im talking.
so are u saying its missing from that certain spot? or just missing in general? or missing from the app drawer?
Missing from the certain spot.
It was there yesterday, i was playing with the menus/options and i probably disabled it by mistake probably.
Thanks for the help. Plenty of key words in your replies to sort it out.
Just reseted ADW and its fixed.
Dont know if theres an option to enable or disable it but reseting fixed it.
Hi, there's an option to turn the left and right softkey on and off in the ADW setting.
I can't create screenshots but try to explain it briefly here (it's simple) although you have reset it, it may benefit others who come across the same problem.
so in ADW settings..
> Interface Settings
there's a Turn On/Off Left Action Button option.
check it to have the phone icon on, uncheck to take it away.
Effectively you can disable to right action button (web browser) as well.
You can also turn on two more extra button as well, but haven't had time to figure out how to set the shortcuts... only have 2 blank keys theres at the mo.
Sorry for, if there're, any inaccurate labelling as I have mine in T.Chinese so not sure what the exact English labels are... shoudn't be far off though.
Hope it helps~
Hey, is me again!
Was just having a quick mess around and found out is as easy as just drag the icon to those empty button areas, that's all !! And i was trying long presses and going through many pages of menu options!! ha-ha
Anyways... [email protected]

Thank you!
as a user of power strip, i was extremely frustrated when i realized that the native double-tap function overrides whatever you set power strip to. coming from a droid 1 and cyanogenmod, i knew that there must be a way to take this function over.
after doing a lot of searching i came across this:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/33482-disabling-customizing-double-tap-home.html#post349645
in that post zlandau mentions to edit a line in a database table in /data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
line 352 has a value of 'double_tap'.
zlandau mentions to change that value to "<program>/<activity>"
assuming that this method will work for what i want to do [restore double tap to power strip], i'm not sure how to call the app properly.
if someone's able to help me out with this i'm pretty sure it will benefit everyone, as it will finally provide a means to disable/customize the function.
[btw i posted this over at droidforums, but figured i'd throw it up here for a quicker response]
also, once this is figured out, maybe someone could make an app to modify this and throw it on the market. i'm sure it would help a lot of people out. droid 2 and X users alike
after messing around i figured it out, with the help of launcher pro activities.
i didn't realize that the table extended to the right and when i saw the action that was set through the system i realized what i was missing.
i was looking for this
'mobi.intuitit.android.p.powerstrip/mobi.intuitit.android.p.powerstrip.PowerStrip'
however, if i set launcher pro as my default launcher and change the doubletap action to power strip, when i double tap it goes home then launches power strip.
i'm going to try just removing the value all together.
I like where this is headed!

That was a good find. I am thinking of what I want my home double tap to be
The problem is that it still takes you home before launching power strip, when it would be best to have it just launch power strip in the current program you are in... I ran into the same problem with quick desk. I settled on using smart taskbar instead because it can be launched by a swipe action, floating icon, or the notification area. And it launches over your current app window. The developer is very responsive to suggestions as well.

activity name?
I would like the double tap to launch google voice
how do I figure out what the name of the startup activity is?
I know the app is com.google.android.apps.googlevoice and I've guessed some generic activity names like com.google.android.apps.googlevoice.GoogleVoice but no luck so far
you can change the double tap home key by going into settings then applications then it will be the last option. not sure on the camera button
So I'm coming from a pixel where I would get my app notifications to wake and show on my lock screen. When I get an email for example, I get the sound and mynlight will blink but my screen doesn't wake up and show anything til I press the power button.
How can I get them to show without having to press the power button??
Yes, I'd like to know how to do this too! Any ideas anyone?
Currently, the best I can see is that my 'always on screen' will show a small icon to indicate there's a new notification (an email icon for example). Though it does not flash or light up. The icon just displays very discreetly so really you have to look for it. I then need to tap the home button, which reveals the 'pin entry screen'... on this screen I tap the 'back' arrow which displays the full notification. So its two tap to reveal notifications without unlocking the phone.
What I really want is to see notifications flash up on my lock screen before I choose to swipe open the app (using PIN etc). For that reason, face recognition also isn't great as the phone opens past the notifications screen the moment you look at it!
Have just moved from an iphone. currently this is the only real con, otherwise amazing upgrade!
Did anyone figure this out?

It isn't probably answering your question, but might help. I don't know if you have set a setting under: settings>display>navigation bar and then check out "unlock with home button", it will at least not require you to press power button, but just a home button. I just press home button and it shows my lock screen and any notifications I may have.
1) So when you set unlock with home button to ON, then your phone will go straight to home screen(if phone isn't locked with a code) when you press this home button.
2) If you turn off that feature, then, when you press home button, then your phone will show lock screen first regardless if your phone is locked or unlocked.
Hi,
I'd also like to have my s8 screen to wake upon receiving notifications (whatsapp messages, emails, etc).
I switch off the AOD feature and would love to see a preview of notifications when i receive them without having to reach out for my phone.
Coming from the iphone, I'm so used to just glance at it and see if its an important message or something that can wait. I find this feature very well executed.
The s8 requires me to manually turn on the screen.
Any info? I'm pretty sure its not hidden somewhere in Settings... Probably can't even do this without root or installing additional apps.
Thanks
I have found an easy solution. Simply download and install this app from the playstore.

I knew there was an app somewhere that will do this! Thank you!
Since the Oreo update I used a similar app called "Screen Notifications" which woke the screen on notification, however no longer works since the update.
Anyone got a work around?
Call me a bit old fashioned, but I have a specific set of "keybinds" that I always work to achieve one way or another on my android devices.
The "Menu" button of old is more important to me than a "Recents" button - really just hoping to achieve inverted behavior of the square button: short press for menu, long press for recents.
Long pressing the "Back" button should kill the foreground app.
Any other bind to quickly toggle the torch light.
Using the menus in OxygenOS, I can't seem to achieve this. Any suggestions or secrets I've yet to find out about?
In Oxygen os you can set LONG PRESS RECENT BUTTON to perform MENU Action. I use it all the time.
About long press back button to kill app, I think this feature was removed in PIE.
Me too was looking for it but didn't find a solution.
Anyway I quickly realized that I don't need it. Op6t can keep a lot of app in memory so there's no need to kill.
When i want to kill one or all i use Recents.
Not a big deal for me.
Yep that's how I'm using everything now. It gets the job done, though I find myself reverting to old habits absent-mindedly. I'm sure I'll be perfectly adapted in a matter of days.

Permissions granted using root. It won't get past the compatibility check (The screen says "If you don't see anything your device is incompatible," and I certainly dont see anything). Thanks for the suggestion, though.

It can be granted access with ADB (PC). It should work I've had it work even on LG phones and such.

I don't think the permissions are the problem. The app doesn't complain about that, it just doesn't do anything to the nav bar during setup, and according to the app that's indicative of incompatibility.
