intermittent imei/data loss after rebooting device - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

hi guys, just got my device on the mail, global version 64GB
1. unlocked bootloader via fastboot
2. flashed magisk and custom black boot logo via TWRP
I only temporary booted TWRP to flash those 2 zips, no permanent flash of TWRP so I can easier install future monthly OTAs by only unistalling magisk
anyway, the weird thing is after I reboot the device there is no data/no imei... then I reboot the 2nd time and everything works good
repeated several times and data/imei is off and on like that every other time
can anyone help what I should do? Im kinda freaking out, because I dont have any efs folder backup or any backup really, since I only wanted to flash magisk to have root, and get rid if the bootloader warning splash screen, keeping everything else stock
what is up with this issue I barely modded the device, just root and splash screen
I have data now, but scared to reboot device, anyone can help me [emoji19]

[SOLVED] Locked Bootloader -- Bootloop. How to save data?

Guys, I'm stuck.
So, I had my Nexus 4 wonderfully running the latest CM11 nightly. Then the Lollipop Factory Image for Nexus 4 came out. My bootloader was unlocked and had TWRP custom recovery. Then in fastboot mode, I flashed the new Lollipop factory images, except the userdata.img. By doing this, I replaced TWRP with stock recovery. Then I restarted the phone.
It stuck in the twirling colorful circles for 2+ hours. I heard it needed 10 minutes or so to fully load Lollipop. But 2 hours? So I then started troubleshooting. One of the first thread I stumbled upon suggested for me to re-lock the bootloader, which I stupidly did. It did not fix the problem. Now I'm stuck!
I'm unable to boot. Stuck in the twirling circles animation for hours.
I have no custom recovery, so I can't load custom ROMs.
I have no unlocked bootloader, so I can't reflash the factory images (or downgrade to stock 4.4.4).
And if I unlock the bootloader, I will lose ALL of my user data, including photos, music, and the Titanium Backups of all my app data, SMS, call logs, etc.
I tried flashing the latest CM11 nightly through ADB sideload within stock recovery, but I get the 'signature verification failed'. Is there a 'signed' ROM I could sideload through stock recovery?
Would ADB sideloading the Nexus 4 Lollipop OTA zip through stock recovery fix this problem? I'm downloading the OTA zip right now.
EDIT: Sideloading the OTA zip did the trick! I'm staring at Android is upgrading... right now. Thanks XDA for the thought process, wouldn't have solved it without posting this thread. Although, please note that at this time, I essentially have Android 5.0 installed, but having bootloop. I can't guarantee that this will work if you bootloop while having custom ROM or Kit Kat installed.
What else I could do to save my data? I'm out of ideas.
EDIT: To save my data, because now I'm able to boot to Lollipop (by flashing official Google Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA zip through stock recovery ADB sideload; see above solution), I'm gonna transfer all the files in storage/emulated/legacy (the internal sdcard) to my PC. I will then unlock the bootloader through fastboot, thus wiping all data on the phone. Then I'll just move everything back from PC to the phone. I should have done this in the first place!
HLEP.
You lost all data as soon as you locked it. Just saying.

This is untrue. I was unable to boot, but after flashing the OTA zip, I can boot to Lollipop and I still have everything, even my old apps, without needing to reinstall anything. Granted, there are errors here and there (probably due to dirty flash upgrade), but my data is intact.
As I said, I previously had TWRP, CyanogenMod 11, root and unlocked bootloader. Now I have Android 5.0 Lollipop, no root, a locked bootloader and all of my data. I wanted to show you my bootloader screen, but I have no other camera with me. The screenshots below should suffice.
Check attachment for proof.
Ah. I thought you were locked out being unable to boot. Anyways, you can back it up via Holo Backup, might wanna check it out

Yes, I was unable to boot. Then, I replaced custom recovery with stock recovery. Then I stupidly locked the bootloader. It's all good now.
I've never heard of Holo Backup before. It seems like the perfect solution for me, as I don't have root right now! And transferring 13GB of files via MTP or Wi-Fi will take ages.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'm giving it a shot.

I am not exactly an expert, but I would recommend to flash back the latest image from Google...go back to completely stock and then if you want root and install TWRP again. Good news is your bootloader is still unlocked, so I don't think you are bricked. Good luck!

Ok so should I use the Nexus root toolkit and start from scratch again? Yeah my bootloader is unlocked and I can see twrp so I must still be rooted ..just wiped my whole device that all thanks
Try re flashing the Vendor.img sounds like the vendor didn't get restored
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
i would but everything (files etc.) are gone from my phone...so i would have to download and flash it thru my pc right? if not ill probably just flash a rom gapps the vendor of course and super su and see if it boots up to the rom
Yup just download the Factory Image and extract the vendor image and flash it with fastboot.
Or flash another ROM /Gapps/ Vendor

Not clear. The files you had before restore are missing or you miss files from your backup? Twrp backup does not backup your /data/media.
White google logo hanging is a due to bad vendor files.

help me unbricked Huawei nexus 6p

hello friends,
i unlocked my bootloader and flashed a custom Rom. i was experiencing problems and i decided to revert to stock google rom, i mistakenly locked the bootloader with twrp recovery installed and i now get the message that my phone is corrupt and cannot be trusted. The phone doesn't boot it stucksat the Google logo. I the tried unlocking but not successful,
is there any help for me? thanks in advance
Dont wanna be the bad news guy but I think you broke your device.
You can't do anything in the bootloader now. Try to do stuff in TWRP. If TWRP still functions normally we can do something.

Hi.
Go to:
http://www.androidbrick.com/download/unbrick-nexus-6p-angler/
And follow that guide ?
If it boots up just boot it. I face this corruption screen every day on 5X, I also have locked bootloader with TWRP onboard and no issues so far (stop talking bull**** that this will brick device, btw).
You said it can't read internal memory. What exactly it display (I assume it can't decrypt it)
Try to sideload random ROM and install it, then toggle OEM unlock.

I see no other option than full wipe and reflashing stock. So your data will be gone
Format /data in TWRP,
Reboot recovery,
Put any stock system image you have (system vendor, boot, recovery) to internal storage. (I assume you have at least one factory image on PC if not download),
Flash them in recovery (flash recovery last just in case)
Device SHOULD boot up.

I also tried to change my stock rom to custom rom. I don't know what happened, only twrp3_1_1_4Cores.img works on my device. I can install a custom rom but it doesn't boot into it. I cannot find any further informations about it. Can someone help me?

New Unlocked Bootloader Screen - Cannot Boot into TWRP

Hi folks, I installed Beta 11 and lost my root (which was to be expected) but there is a new screen that comes up when I try to boot into TWRP. I posted about it here is this mondo-thread but it got lost in other conversations:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76702639&postcount=2165
Anyway, anybody know how to get past this screen successfully?
I'm afraid to actually flash TWRP because the last time I did this it resulted in a bootloop and I had to wipe everything...
Thanks!
dq
When have flash twrp use the volume down until you read recovery mode then hit the power button and your phone boots into twrp :good:

you can download this app to go back to old bootloader screen https://www.coolapk.com/apk/com.daxiaamu.op5mutoolsnew
open it and switch to "更多功能"——“恢复开机叹号为START”,then click "确定" to confirm.
Or if you're not familiar with Mandarin/whatever language that app is in, I have made TWRP flashable zips to revert to the old bootloader. You can get them from this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76659022&postcount=16

Phone is stuck on android one logo. TWRP Recovery installed can't wipe data. Help fix

So I was messing with my phone because I just got it rooted, I was excited; my last phone that was rooted was my Xperia C and that was years ago. I messed with Magisk modules and somehow came across a video on how to uninstall a module whereas I was just deleting them in the Magisk App. I tried the uninstall mod. I used TWRP Recovery but then the uninstall mod did not install. Now I am stuck with the android one logo. Please I need help .
Update! I was still trying to wipe the data. I don't know why it went through now it doesn't even go to the android one logo
Update no. 2! so i tried flashing it and it worked, I completely forgot about the MiFlashingTool, I was hesitant to actually flash with TRWP just because after I unlocked OEM on my device I can't seem to transfer files anymore in my phone (but probably it's because of the drivers). So I flashed it and rooted it again. I kinda am pretty knowledgeable about it too now. All's well that ends well.
Good to hear you were able to recover your phone. Always remember to do a full backup in TWRP before experimenting, in case something goes wrong

Look at backup in twrp ? full means tick all the boxes. And hotboot means that you don't have a sticking twrp. However you still can backup on a MicroSD card.

hmm.. so having twrp installed is really neccesary here .. ?
can i installed twrp recovery on my mi a1 running last pie OS ?
and if it can , will it make me unable to receive OTA update?
i know i can just flash the new update via twrp but the were kinda huge difference.. i mean OTA update were only around 250MB on the last patch feb 5th
but if we wanna flash it via twrp (i hotboot it back then) the file was above 1GB ?
