I wanted a wide-angle snap on lens, but didn't like the clip on or screw on types. This was the best option for me since it is relatively easy to carry and quickly mount to the magnetic back of the case.
There are 3 raised nubs on the lens pod that matches up with 3 detents where it attaches to the case. This allows you to rotate the pod to select between the wide angle, fish-eye, and circular polarizer lens. One of the lenses has a layer that pops off (magnetic also) which exposes the macro lens. Each lens is deployed by rotating the pod to the lens you want to use, then use your fingernail to swing it out until it slides into place. It uses the top sensor of the S9+ only and covers the bottom one.
The case itself is very slim with a raised lip at top and bottom of screen for protection. The cut outs are decently sized and accurate so the charger, headphones and fingerprint reader are still easily accessible. I like that it comes with a lanyard leash that slips into the phone case, but the hole where the lanyard goes on the case actually is in the spot where I like to put the Shuttergrip. One thing I don't like about the one I got for my S9+ is that the back is very shiny and prone to look ugly due to picking up grease and fingerprints from handling. I covered it up with adhesive matt vinyl and it looks much better.
The magnets are very strong, so I have no worries whether the lens pod can stay attached unless something directly hits it hard while it's on your phone. When you're done shooting with the lens pod, simply pop it off and put it in your pocket or bag. I put one of those inexpensive ring-holders on a magnet and mount it to the metal plate when I'm not using the lens pod for extra security. Also, that plate will let you mount the phone to a magnetic car mount pretty strongly, so I love that as well. The metal plate WILL COVER NFC, so be aware that you cannot use it while this case is on.
Unfortunately, you cannot use the Revolver lens with a smartphone gimbal because it gets in the way. I might still get a Moment case and lens combo for using a wide-angle w/ my gimbal.

The Shuttergrip is much more reliable than the Pictar camera case I originally tried, and much more compact. Since the detachable shutter remote is bluetooth, once you pair it with your phone, you can activate the shutter while holding the phone or remove it to trigger remote shots so you can be in the picture. There's a standard tripod mount on the bottom and the spring that clamps your phone is pretty firm and so far feels pretty secure. The grip gives just enough of a handle to more easily work your phone like a camera. I just wish the black one that you can get now was available when I got mine - they only had blue back then. The battery in the remote is a CR-2032, which is readily available.

you should show us the photos made with this lens
Some test shots as requested
Spent some time w/ the kids on Saturday and shot some at the park with and without the lenses. The macro stuff is at a restaurant while I was waiting for food, lol.
As you can see from the test shots, the pictures with the lenses has some vignetting in 2 of the corners - I could not get any shots without those 2 little shadows in the corners, unfortunately. That's still usable for my needs, but just wanted to warn anyone that those are there.

Welcome to my tutorial on how to replace or fix your EVO 4G camera lens.
In this tutorial I will be showing you step by step, with pictures, how to replace the stock lens and metal surround.
It can be done simply, with minimal tools, and look just like it did from the factory. No more scratchy lenses!!!
Click here for a decent price on eBay for the whole replacement kit I used here.
(I am not connected in any way to this link, it was just the kit I used.)
(1) Remove back cover

(2) Using a small Flathead screwdriver from a precision screwdriver set, or something small and flat to pry the
red ring off the lens. It will have sticky resin of a 2-way tape in it. If it doesn't all come off when you take off the ring,
remove the excess so the new one fits perfectly.
(3) You should now have the red ring off the back of the phone. Remember to scrape off excess tape left there.
(4) Using the same small screwdriver, or a plastic alternative, pry the old lens off making sure you don't stick the tool
into the actual inner lens of the camera. I Just pried it a little with the screwdriver and then picked it up wit my fingers.
(5) You should now see the inner lens and have the outer lens off. I kept mine just in case, but it's up to you.
(6) Now we take out the kit and as you can see it has all the parts needed to replace the lens and metal surround.
(7) Take the rubber gasket and affix it to around the lens casing. You will notice it already has a indentation there that it fits into.
(8) Bend up the tab on the white ring surround on the 2-way tape ring that will be used to hold the metal housing down.
Be careful, and affix the ring around the dome of the lens and try and keep it even.
It was here I decided to add some glue to keep the lens in place and not move around, the metal surround sometimes
doesn't keep the lens in place. So I used very little dots of superglue to keep the lens in place and fixed in one position.
(9) This is the last step of assembly, affix the new metal surround to the housing, and press down to seat it in.
Be careful not to press down on the lens too much, so that it seats down as well .
(10) I kept the old ones, just in case I needed them, and since I bought 2 kits,I can replace this one if needed also,
but I would hope it will be a long time for that!
(11) The final product looks and works just like the original, so even if you have to return your phone, it still looks stock!

Thanks, I knew I had to replace it myself, so I decided to take pics with my GF's Evo Shift 4g, and put them into this. Since I never saw any tutorial on how to do it, even on the net, youtube, or anything, I decided to do this. Since I love these forums, I put it here only!
Thanks man! Just what I was looking for.
Thanks for the awesome write up. I not sure how the lens broke on my phone, but with your directions and a little patience I was able to get it apart and back together with no problems.
Thanks
Jay
this worked perfectly. took about 3 minutes, and most of that was fighting with the tiny pieces of paper holding the tape in place.
I didn't have any tutorial and mine looks crap. This would have helped

I got tired of my scratched lens too. I took the (for lack of a better term) ghetto way out. I popped the lens out with a knife, and caught a piece of cellophane from a cigarette pack over the lens. When the battery cover goes back on, it stretches it tight over the lens. Can't even tell the difference between brand new lens pictures and cellophane pictures.
Hi, in the home button of my galaxy s2 i can see some scratches, here a phone, is worst than in the photo.

You do know there's a plastic covering ontop of your button right?
i suppose that, but i can´t remove the plastic, but is normal that scratches?
I've seen in some stores some gel or something that you can spread on scratches and they will disappear (I'm not 100% sure as I haven't never bought any)

As krazykat said, the phone ships from the factory with a thin rectangular plastic film that is stuck on top of the home button. This film is simply one of the many protective films/coverings that are on a brand new phone, to protect it during shipping and unboxing. This film is removable - it's conceivable the scratch you're seeing is on that plastic film instead of the button itself. The film is hard to see, but if you look carefully with a bright light shining on it, you will see it. You can remove it by scraping with the edge of a credit card.
Relax your phone is going to get some scratches. It's just a fact of life. I've had mine in a gel case and screen protector since day one, unfortunately that didn't protect the camera lens (only exposed area besides home button) from a small scratch .
Also if the smal piece of plastic is still on eventually it'll lift up on its own and you'll be able to take it off.
Thank you, DreadPirateDan i think you are right , so if i remove the plastic from the home button the home bottom can get some scratches? the home button is made of the same material as the screen, gorilla glass? someone has the home bottom with scratches with out the plastic?
Because my home bottom look really bad, you can feel the scratches with your nails.
I get pretty excited with all the hype of gorilla glass being scratch proof but let me tell you it certainly is not scratch proof. Slighty more resistant at best says I.
My last phone would fall face first onto pebbles and come out un scratched, yet being inside my pocket with lethal for the screen. Who would have thought soft cotton would be gorilla glass' Achillies heel? lol.
So best advice from me is to just leave the plastic there as long as it's willing to stay/as long as you can tolerate it's ugliness. Then when you've had enough you'll peel back to a crisp fresh menu button
The screen is resistant to falls but not scratches. Therefore, it is recommended to put a protective plastic on the screen ASAP! As always the enemy of all screens is the dust, keys and any sharp object.
About, the HOME button, it is normal to be scratch fast because it's plastic, what I did was cut a plastic/tranparent sticker covering inside the edges of the home button and no scratches inside of it!
That's why ya go with white versions. Surface scratches and finger prints don't show nearly as bad.

If it bugs you, just buy the button on ebay.
I bought one for like 5 bucks after shipping and have no use for it LOL
I was wondering if the button had a really dark chrome or if it was just my phone (I thought the chrome was supposed to be like a polished bright chrome like in pics) and after receiving this button and seeing my friend's S2, my phone is normal lol
Looks like the camera lens cover will be prone to scratches. Anyone scratch theirs yet?
Nope

love my commuter case! the screen cover that comes with it kind of sucks though
My 22-month old Captivate's camera lens has a single scratch on it (which doesn't show in photos because it's luckily offset), so I'm guarding my S3 like a hawk.
What worries me, is that unlike the Captivate's RECESSED camera lens, which provides a little fundamental protection, the SGS3's sticks out a bit. If you don't use a case to protect the lens a bit, then it seems much more scratch prone. Seems more scratch-prone even if you DO use a case, really.
Here's a pic of my Captivate's camera lens taken with my S3. The scratches on the plastic above the lens might;ve landed on the lens if it wasn't recessed.

I might consider putting a "protector" on the lens, but it'd probably reduce image quality, so, probably better idea to pry it off and replace it if scratched.
why is there NO case that has some sort of cover that flips over or slides over to protect the camera lens? I always just used a piece of scotch tape. But that is of course a crap ssolution and needs to be re-done every week or two. I never understood why NO cases I have seen offer this? Especially for a popular phone like the S III?

Probably because the VAST majority of people can't tell the difference between a clear photo and one taken with a lens covered in fingerprint grease and scratches. Or if they can, they don't give two ****s.
Also, dummies would still forget to "take the lens cap off" and blame anyone but themselves for missing magic moments.

Seidio makes a couple of cases that have exactly what you're looking for. Was just looking at them last night. Flap folds down to take pictures then back when you're done. I almost got one, but I think it'll make the phone too thick. Go to seidioonline.com if you want to check it out.

Anyone mod a screen protector yet to cover their camera lens? I may try this as my first case comes with a screen protector which i wont be using. :good:
i have now used this phone for a few hours it had a scratch and i am pannicking about that i can't even send it back as my info is on it and as far as i know that cannot be permantly erased it would make me VERY happy if i could change it but i don't know if i dare to do that after putting all those passwords in it
now to what i think about this phone
it looks and feels amazing
the screen is actually very good once you turn off the auto option (auto option = BAD)
viewing angles are NOWHERE NEAR as bad as people say they are i can easily read text from ANY ANGLE only negative thing about the viewing angle which i really don't care about is that the picture gets whitish washed out from an angle but everything is easily visible not a big deal too me
the speaker hole is IMPOSSIBLE to block out even in potrait mode i don't get what the review were talking about i hold my phone in the left hand
i love the fact that you got a dock with the phone ( though the dock looks and feels very cheap compared to the phone i would love a different material then very plain plastic for it it just dosn't fit with the phone at all) and i don't see why the dock allows the phone to be used in landscape ALL AROUND the menus but turning it sideways dosn't?

the flaps are VERY hard to open sony should include a rubber/plastic thing you open them with avoiding damage doing it with the nails it was VERY hard to open them using the nails i did it as carefully as i possibly could took alot of time but i managed to do it without a problem (allthough charging flap was NOTHING compared to the simcard flap that was REALLY hard to get open)
so a rubber or plastic thing you slide under them to open them with would be gold for this phone including a tweezer to take out the simcard holder
i have played vice city on it for a min or two and it did not get hot i have used it alot aswell and it does not get hot battery life is pretty bad right now but it will improve after a few recharging cycles
to sum it all up i am very happy with this phone if it wasn't for the scratch then i would adore it the scratch i will always know it's there it's at the side of the phone very small
but other then that this phone looks and feels amazing i have a xperia wave live wallpaper running (why weren't they included instead of xperia wallpapers)
here is a picture of what i have done with the phone
there is ofcourse always room for improvment
best battery life out of all phones
best screen out of all phones (sony developed super amo led screen just very different but the same concept of no backlight)
a version thats smaller in size like an iphone
no xperia logo anywhere (sony logo still removable when removing the anti shatter film
oleophobic coating under the anti shatter film
black safety marks at the back making them less visible
thinner bezels all around
ability to customize the statusbar and softbutton keys to any type of buttons you want small big anything with true true black you wouldn't be able to tell the softkeys were part of the screen
same power button
stereo speakers
vol rocker at the top not bottom
thats it this phone is perfect

oh cool!
As mentioned at my long post at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73478114&postcount=45 , I noticed my LG V20 arrived with the following seemingly minor hardware issue..
When my V20 arrived I noticed the rear camera glass cover mound (similar to https://www.amazon.com/Unifix-Camera-Repair-Replacement-Silver/dp/B06Y3K831B but includes the LED cover that only uses adhesive tape visible at https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61vhxTdE-gL._SL1150_.jpg & below) was loose with weak adhesive, my compressed photo of it at (https://preview.ibb.co/cV6Qu5/V20_CAMERA_GLASS_COVER_ADHESIVE_LOOSE.jpg & below), but everything works & I don't think it's worth returning it especially if B&H doesn't have anymore https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1285961-REG/lg_lgus996_ausasv_lg_v20_4gb_ram.html so what do you think I should do regarding a better adhesive for it, if I can't find anything should I try a clear heated glue gun like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073Z5QNTD or just double sided tape as visible at https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61vhxTdE-gL._SL1150_.jpg to make it easier to replace should it ever break (although my case offers it some protection)?

3m thin double sided tape
Autostore, wally world, target, kmart
Specifically get the thin version. It is what is used. Cheaper replacement kits use knockoff 3m thin tape.
P.S. easy with the links, killer.

LOL I love links..what's the problem with relevant links (don't have to click through them)..
My sister actually brought me over tonight some thin 3M double sided tape she had like at https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Removable-Double-Dispenser-667/dp/B00006IF63 but when I removed my new LG V20's camera glass cover part with my fingernail on the top edge, the adhesive on it already seemed stickier than the tape (which given the small intricate holes would not be easy to cut out at this point) so I didn't put the tape on tonight & used the adhesive it already had to secure it firmly down with some lens cleaning cloths. It's not hanging or very loose anymore but I can move it around a bit with my fingernails, is that normal?
She also brought me Elmer's All Purpose Gluestick like at https://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Purpose-Sticks-0-77-ounce-sticks/dp/B000U6FJQE which seems easier to work with if the camera lens is avoided but not very strong & 3M Restickable Tabs for mounting like at https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Restickable-Tabs-Inches-R100VPC/dp/B007TUMWNM but she said that is significantly thicker than the tape. She also brought me a hot glue gun she borrowed from someone (needed it for something else)..
Mine only moves a bit now if I shake each side specifically with my fingernails (which I'll be cutting soon & would be difficult with short nails) but I can currently still remove it with my fingernails around its edges.. This LG V20's camera glass cover part no longer seems like it's going anywhere unless it's hit in the right crevice-angle or possibly dropped with enough top impact, is everyone's 100% unmovable even with fingernails inside its edges?
-Thx for any constructive advice

Rationale for recommendations are also appreciated by anyone for this situation.
So far I haven't used anything except try to secure it better with its shipped adhesive with a soft lens cloth. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=LG+V20+US996 assured me this V20 was new before it shipped & when I received it I saw no evidence it was ever used except I noticed the camera glass cover part was oddly loose later hanging down a bit which obviously alarmed me hence my post especially after reading people had reported their camera glass easily broke. I had recently used glue elsewhere on a project so I immediately considered if it should be glued but decided to investigate the matter further before introducing anything extrinsic there.
I had wondered if there might be an advantage to the camera glass cover part being less rigid with such "flexible" adhesive to potentially absorb any shocks better but wasn't sure if that was just wishful thinking. I merely secured it down in its place with its own adhesive enough now that I'm not too worried anymore especially with the protective case but it doesn't seem entirely normal that I should be able to remove it along its edges with my finger nails in such a pliable way without getting some feedback from owners.
I speculate you might be familiar with reports that the camera glass part breaks easily & I'd obviously prefer to avoid damaging this otherwise cool-unique device.
Enough with the bickering here thanks...
Thread cleaned.
