I had Magisk 16.0, but Magisk Hide didn't work very well. I wanted to see if it would work with Magisk 14. Not it's stuck in a boot loop. It shows the "Samsung Galaxy S8 powered by android" for a few seconds then reboots. I can still boot into TWRP recovery and access the storage. Download mode works too. I tried uninstalling Magisk and flashing the stock boot image. Neither worked. Is there anhthing I can do to make my phone work again without losing my data?
Update: if I have to flash the stock ROM, I'm planning to do the next thing: back up my data partition to an external hard drive with TWRP. After I flash the ROM and wipe everything, I want to reinstall TWRP and restore that backup. Would this cause any issues?

I think you cant, since your phone is bootlooped there is no way to get your data back ..
You should backup your data even before root your phone ..
Just flash latest TWRP img.tar from odin, disable auto reboot from the options on odin , after the success flash you need to press the buttons to enter recovery mode .

I have made a mistake which was was to use TWRP Manager (ROOT) to update my recovery, it found latest update then
1. i followed on screen instructions to install it, phone rebooted and got stuck in downloading mode
2. i had to hook it up to my PC to run odin and flash my original hltespr-recovery-4.4.img
3. phone then rebooted and booted successfully, i then tried to reboot into recovery (to make sure it works ok now) and phone gone into downloading mode
4. i had to repeat step 2
My phone is working fine as long as i dont try and access my recovery, i really dont want to wipe my phone and start again.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Why don't you just reflash the twrp for your variant with Odin?
Don't use any apps to do the dirty work for you. The safest way is always best which is PC Odin.

thats what i did in step 2
Retry to flash twrp but in odin, untick auto reboot. After flashed, force reboot from download mode to recovery mode yourself
If roslis idea works then good. In case you need more do a rom reflash with odin and reset to ? state. Then try twrp again. Maybe some files left that mess with it.
I had rooted my phone by unlocking the bootloader using adb fastboot method, then flashing the TWRP revocery V2.8.7.0, and then flashing superSU v2.46.
After rebooting my yureka plus, and going to recovery it started cynogen recovery only, even though update cynogen recovery option was disabled.
So I flashed TWRP again and without rebooting again, just flashed crDroidAndroid-6.0.1-20160827-tomato.zip and GApps zip file from internal memory. The phone rebooted and worked fine after that..
but while playing a game the phone automatically rebooted and ever since have been stuck on Preparing to start.. Starting apps..
I had disabled the developer options because I thought it was working fine.
The phone is working behind the preparing to start screen.. I can hear the message notification and caller ringtone when someone messages or calls.
Any suggestions what I should do now? I have tried doing a factory reset from recovery but the problem persists.

Try flashing it with stock rom or simple wipe the whole system and cache from twrp from advance wipe option ( but backup first ) and again flash the custom rom u used previously.

It still opens in cyanogen recovery only, and there is no option for wiping dalvik cache or system. Since the usb debugging is of,f I cannot used cmd to flash twrp recovery again. By the way I still don't understand why twrp recovery is not loading.

I still have no idea why it got bricked. So after searching on google and youtube I came across this: https://androidmtk.com/download-yu-stock-rom-for-all-models . I followed the steps and now KitKat is running except launcher is not working, instead play store open's every time I try to go to home screen. So tried the nova launcher but that still doesn't work with home button, have to open through playstore->my apps, every time. But rest is working.

Update your twrp, there's no need to use that old version... my phone reboots when it wants when it has opd twrp versions
Download twrp 3.1.1-0
Put it on your phone, maybe via adb or through mtp if you have it
Go to Install -> hit the button on the right that says 'Install image'
Find the TWRP.img and install it, it will prompt you where to install it, put 'recovery'
Followed you instructions, but now i cant get into TWRP or the OS ):
Tried to flash it with axon7tool on pc, but got the same result, but when I tried to flash the 3.0.2. again, it worked.

Don't use axon7tool for this... you already have TWRP, the only thing you have to use axon7tool for is to install twrp when you have the stock recovery. after you have twrp on the phone just try not to use the PC except for maybe miflash
I tried both of this options.
Flashing new version of twrp through the old twrp resulted in black screen when i try to get to recovery.
So I flashed the old twrp from the pc, tried to flash the new one using the same method but it the same as i flashed it through the old twrp. (which mean that when i get to the recovery i get black screen)
ATM the situation is the same, system wont boot stuck on zte logo, twrp is 3.0.2.2 (there is another method to flash newer twrp?)
There is another option?
After wiping system in twrp i was able to install supersu, which means i completed this guide

Ya, afte i wiped the system it allowed me to install the supersu without interrupts, but it did not helped.
Anyway i manged to install purefusion os, system booted up, after that the new twrp updated successfully.

You installed SuperSU without a system, and the phone did not boot up? Amirite?
what i did was wipe system dalvik cache, cache, after that install bootstack and the system files, and after that the supersu.
before i wiped the system, when i tried to install the supersu the twrp collapsed, after that it installed it but did not helped to make the system boot.
Hi guys, my phone is on oreo firmware 20A twrp and magisk to get root access. Just got a notification that there is an update available (20b).
Now what is the most efficient way to update without losing all my data/settings?
What I did was flash stock 20b kdz (there is no .zip to flash in twrp) and you can do a backup with lg bridge or with google account and then flash twrp, format data (when you flash stock kdz encryption is enabled again), flash all you need, and reboot to system and restore the backup or the google backup. With the google backup you won't need to set up to much.

I see. But that still involves a factory reset. I've always used Titanium Backup for apps etc. But it's still takes a lot of time... Is google backup any better than that?
What if I flash KDZ 20b with LG UP but as update! And then flash TWRP with fastboot and then immediately flash magisk without formatting data to remove encryption?

I flashed twrp with fastboot flash, but twrp showed a error with /data (that was because /data was encrypted) so you will need to format /data anyway.
Flash kdz with uppercut (update option) than re root installing twrp from adb and magisk from recovery (using sd card) no need to format data no factory reset!

Yes, without booting up to android, data will not be encrypted. Melina kernel stops the encryption also.
Thx for your suggestions, the following method worked perfectly and i kept all my data intact:
0. make sure magisk 16.4 is on your sd card
1. download and flash v20b.kdz with LGUP+Uppercut using "upgrade"
2. enable USB debugging and enter fastboot
3. flash melina twrp 3.2.1 with fastboot
4. directly enter twrp with button combo (hold power+vol down, release power when LG logo appears and immediately press and hold power again)
5. in twrp, don't do anything except install magisk. Ignore all errors then reboot.
6. profit

Have you tried to install melina kernel after installint magisk? Or after installint magisk, rebooting to system and rebooting to twrp solve all the errors of twrp?

No, I only did what I wrote earlier. From what I understand if you want things to work more or less in twrp you need to format data to remove encryption. My goal was to keep data, update and get root.
Anyone tried to unroot und flash stockrecovery?
Hi,
I got the same situation here. TWRP installed as recovery and magisk 16.0 installed for root.
My question: Does the unroot / auto-uninstall with magisk itself work on the h870? Can´t I then just fastboot flash the stock-recovery?
After that the OTA-Update should work! Should not?
Did anyone try this way already?
Regards

You could try. I never had success with unroot/reflashing stock recovery before OTA updates on other devices, but never tried with LG G6.
But really it's just easier to flash .kdz since you have to reflash twrp and magisk anyway, but that's just IMHO
So i started to update viper4android and i accidentally pressed volume up which tries it to install via AROMA now my phone is stuck on bootloop, it just keeps rebooting to recovery trying to install the viper4android, is there any possible way to get out of this or my phone is dead?
Any help will be appreciated,
TIA

You didn't specify your exact phone model, so assuming KLTE
AFAIK aroma does not work well with our TWRP
Can you pull the battery and then boot directly to recovery so you can wipe system/cache/Dalvik and then flash the ROM again?
If recovery is messed up, can you pull battery, then boot to download mode so you can reflash TWRP in Odin/Heimdall, or better yet flash latest stock Rom (caution if you have a g900V/A with stock locked bootloader) in Odin/Heimdall, followed by TWRP?
Post again if you need more help, and try to include as many specifics as possible eg exact phone model, TWRP version, Rom zip filename, Gapps, etc. I'll try to help if I can
I am very sorry for not posting the model number, mine is G900I (KLTEDV), everytime i turn on the phone it just keeps booting onto the recovery and goes to install the viper4android but it fails to do that and reboots again and again, its impossible to do anything basically, not booting onto the rom or anything. Recovery version is TWRP 3.2.2-0, it opens up directly to the zip file which is viper4androidfx-aroma.zip and tries to flash it and crashes and the whole process starts again, pulling the battery didnt break the chain it just keeps rebooting to do that again!
I reflashed a new twrp recovery ver 3.2.3-0, but it still tries to flash that zip file again! Even after deleting the file itself it still tries to flash it and keeps rebooting!
How do i get rid of this twrp loop!? This is so weird!
P.S: After reflashing twrp the phone boots to the rom normally but i cant access recovery anymore, whenever i go to recovery it goes on in an infinite bootloop (cleared cache and dalvik cache using es explorer root), I am also on LineageOs 16.0, tried stock recovery but the stock recovery also keeps bootlooping.
P.S this viper4android is a magisk module!
NVM, solved it by flashing stock rom! Thanks!
