Battery Life Sucks on Latest Oreo Build - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Hi I've been experiencing this issue for the past week. Overnight my phone consumes about 30% of battery with wifi, bluetooth, and data turned off. It is also on powersaving mode but still drains. I'm on version 15.0410.1804.61.

Report this on ASUS ZenTalk. You wont get any help here.
My advice: Use Auto-Start Manager to save battery life.
ASUS also released new update (15.0410.1804.62). Try to update and check the results again

Battery drain since latest update - solved!!!!!

Since the July 8.44.11 update my tablet in standby drains a good 3% or more per hour despite wifi off on screen off. This setting previously did not drain more than 1-2% overnight.
Nothing changed other than updating firmware.
Did some investigating to find the source of the drain.
See below as I think I found the source. Tablet was not getting into deep sleep.
OK I have solved this!!
I rooted the latest update and performed an experiment.
I used CPU spy to measure sleep.
With stock rooted the device was not going into deep sleep on 8.4.4.11
Then with titanium backup I froze the following to programs preventing them from running:
Mobile data and mobile network configuration.
Low and behold I now get deep sleep when testing this with CPU spy.
I suspect this wasnthe same source of battery drain in standby that occurred with the iconia tablet before a software update. Seems these programs are preventing deep sleep. Based on their description they seem designed for mms and sms.
Perhaps they were put there for the upcoming 3g enabled.models.

What do you have MobileDock Battery saving mode set to? Having this unchecked means your transformer is constantly spending power waiting for you to make a key stroke. If you have a newer keyboard or no keyboard you can check this and save that 2-3% per hour.
I do not see any additional power drain with the newer update.
I have observed increased battery usage in standby mode after the update.... an the average of 3% per hour. There has been no change in installed apps between the firmware update.
I rebooted the TF multiple times over the last few days without any improvement. Out of desperation, I plugged the TF to the recharge, and switch the tablet off. I let it charge up, and now the battery drain seemed to have reduced to pre-update rates. See screen capture of before, and after with the power-off-and-charge in the middle.
Observe also the CPU seems to be constantly awake even though the screen is off and in standby mode

2 observations I have made.
CPU spy shows I am not going into deep sleep
When I look at applications under the settings, under running services there is mobile data and mobile network configuration which to me seem more appropriate on a phone.
The iconia tab had issue with similar type process draining battery before an update. I wonder if the pre 8.4.4.11 update if those processes were running.

Experiencing the same, am on prime 1.6 (default kernel) and last night i removed charger when it was on 100%.
This morning battery was on 87%, this was after 6 hours. More then 2% per hour.
I have wifi setting on off when screens turns off.
When checking the applications in the battery info screen i saw "Maps" on top of the list. So when leaving to work i killed "Maps" hoping that it was the cause of the drain.
When returning home about 9 hours later battery was on 67%, so still about 2% per minute. That's even more then my SGS 2 with 3g on. So something is really wrong.
I saw an android bug listed, that after a reboot, the wifi sleep setting gets reset. Make sure that you select the wifi off when screen is off setting after rebooting.
I really want to help with this because there are a lot of people who are having these battery drain complaints and I just can't figure out the differences between my stock tablet and theirs. My tablet shows a very slow beautiful drain overnight last night.
My applications "All" shows the network and wireless applications also, however my running applications list is extremely small (Settings, The Weather Channel, ASUS Sync, com.asus.keyboard, Google Services, Music, Maps, MyNet, ASUS MyWater(asus live background)) so I can't say that network services are affecting my battery.

My TF has the same discharge profile as your device before the last 3.1x update. also, the CPU was never active in sleep mode. After the upgrade, the AWAKE bar is always active, and as you can see from my screenshot above, kills the battery during standby

Am trying this now, will report back. You did not charge it completely when turning it of as i understand from your capture.
Under google services, you might want to turn off picasa sync. I was told to do the same an I believed it has helped. Also try turning on airplane mode and see if it helps.
I have mostly unchecked all of the sync options which has helped in that my drain is like 2% overnight ~8hrs although I would like it to be even less .....

I'm sorry... this probably is a stupid question. But where are the settings for google services on the Transformer?

Settings --> Accounts & sync --> [email protected]
Inside that folder you will have checkboxes for everything Google that can be synced. IMO Calendar, Contacts, and GMail are all that is needed to keep you up to date. You can manually sync everything in the settings menu of the program you use less frequently.

Tried to stop them via settings but they won't close.
Afraid u need to root.
Good find. Would help if you editted your original post with this solution. Hopefully this is fixed in 3.2.
So I guess this gives me another reason to root my tf101. Battery life is very important to me. This is the reason I got the tf101 with a dock so that I can get the full battery life of 16 hrs.

Thank you so much!
This is a great find. I just got my TF four days ago, so I haven't payed attention to battery usage, etc., but I performed these steps, so I hope to get maximum battery performance.
I also changed wireless settings to "turn off when screen is off".
This is why I love XDA.

Hmm, was looking around in Titanium - how do you freeze (prevent a prog from starting) an app?
Okay, found "deactivate" - this is the "freezer" ?

[Q] Weird battery behavior on MG5 (I9500)

Hey guys..
I am on Rooted MG5 with Persues Alpha 9. I have been facing this issue since ever I flashed MG1 and then MG5... Battery consumption on ideal mode is ridiculous..
When I go to sleep (12AM), I keep my phone's Wifi On... When I wake up (7.30AM) almost 20% of juice is consumed.. Even when Power Saving Mode is enabled.
Couple of days back, I tried turning off Wifi and Mobile Data connection.. Even then around 10-15% of battery was consumed. I don't really understand why does it take that much battery..
Yesterday I tried different experiment. I put my phone on Airplane mode, disabled Wifi, Enabled Power Saving mode.. Battery consumption was like 4-5%.. I still feel for phone in ideal mode this is too much..
Anyone else is having the same issue? or is it just me? shall I try flashing another firmware? I am not at all happy with battery life
Use BetterBatteryStats to see what's using your battery or maybe wakelocks
I will try using BetterBatteryStats.. Hope It will show the culprit service.

[Q] S5 fast battery drain with wifi on

All of a sudden, my S5 has started experiencing quick battery drain when wifi is turned on. If I turn wifi off, I get very good battery life.
Any advice?
Same here. Suddenly started on android 5 with custom rom.
Till now I have reset/factory reset, try another rom, try back to stock but still not working.
When I turn wifi on an there is a huge drain. I'm talking about 100-0 in just 13h without usage.
If just mobile network is turned on everything is allright and there are three days battery life.
I have watched with battery doctor etc for some reasen but there is no awake or something.
In battery usage there are missing 80% of used battery just don't listed.
Sounds for me like it's an hardware issue?
Thanks for any help
Sorry for bad english

Verizon S7 Edge Battery Life Terrible

And there's nothing I can do about it. I only have a gear s2 connected at all times and wifi and mobile data off whenever possible. Before I leave to the gym battery is at 44%. After the car ride there it drops one percent. I unlock the phone, connect my powerbeats, and open youtube and there go another 5%. After a YouTube video there is 7% drain. About a 10 minute video too. Leaving the gym and hour later and I see a maybe 20% battery loss. I don't know how people with regular S7s get 4-5 hours SOT because I get only 3.5 maximum. I bought the edge looking for better battery life but it's practically no different than my S5. If anyone knows a magic trick to this, I need to know now because this is extremely annoying.
IF you got the device from an official retailer, just return and get a new replacement. Losing 7% watching a 10' video is not right even with max brightness. You can fix the standby drain by using Forcedoze (which helped reduce my standby drain by 50% to about 1% every 2 hours). 3.5 hours SOT is terrible even with max brightness. Just get a replacement please. It's not worth the time and frustration.
IF you don't have the option of getting a replacement. Forcedoze can help with the standby drain. Factory reset, set up normally (personally, I just turn off bluetooth NFC location and turn them on when needed), and hope that your terrible screen on time is software related.

Do you think it might be my location by any chance? Maybe the service in my area causes this drain. I also have gps on because of my gear s2 but I can turn that off and see what happens. GSAM tells me the in the past 30 minutes the drain rate is 15% per hour. I browsed the Internet a bit and have been using it the whole time. I'll try to also do a full battery drain test on geekbench with full brightness and see what it tells me.

It's a good possibility. I have a fairly weak signal where I am most of the day and only get about 4-5 hours of SOT. I have all radios off except WiFi and data when needed. Still with my usage I only charge every 2 to 3 days. I don't get the drain like you do from watching youtube though.
My battery life also sucks. I barely use my phone during the day and it almost dead when I go to sleep. Most of the day I am connected to wifi between my work or home. My old htc m8 one could last 40 hours. I think part of the problem is because I do not have root on this phone. I kind of regret switching because I cannot get root. I cannot use applications to adjust cpu or control my wifi, data and to turn off apps from starting automatically. I think tonight I am going to try and calibrate my battery.
I had horrible battery life after taking the 2 OTAs. BetterBatteryStats would not report the device going into deep sleep at all and I was losing about 10% per hour on standby. I did a Factory Data Reset and all the problems cleared away. BBS is reporting deep sleep after about 5 minutes of the display going dark. I have Wifi, data, Bluetooth, and high-accuracy Location services turned on at all times. I lose about 2.5% per hour now with AOD turned on on standby.
Guess my advice would be to due a FDR after every OTA....
Guys, I had terrible battery life when I first got the phone. Off the charger at 6am, under 20% by 5pm... Follow my steps below and I bet your battery will do a 180 and be very nice. Mine gets me 35-40+ hours on a charge.
Disable the bloat apps you don't want in app manager.
Turn off Google usage and diagnostics reporting for the Google app, and if you use the Google keyboard, there too. This and the next one were the biggest improvements by far.
Turn off Samsung "Send Security Reports," and in the same place, turn off auto-update Samsung security updates.
Turn off device/Bluetooth/WiFi scanning.
Set keep WiFi on during sleep to while charging.
In permissions, I turned off location for any app I didn't think needed it. I went from 30+ to about 15. If an app requires location to work, you will get a popup warning when disabling location for it.
Lastly, I did a Restrict Background Data on several apps I didn't think needed it.
My phone started dozing and the battery drain dropped way out.
I keep AOD and Bluetooth on at all times and connected to my smartwatch all day, and my car about an hours a day.
Hope this helps! Apparently out of the box the S7/Edge battery life is terrible...

I installed forcedoze and did the adb non-root command and now my phone's battery is holding up better. I think the phone was just sleeping.
It's ridiculous one has to do all this to get closer to acceptable battery life.
Google and SEC should be ashamed of themselves!
It's not just VZW devices either. AT&T are just as bad.
I've given up on trying to get acceptable standby drain and just let the device live on a wireless charger.

You need to turn off all radios when you go to sleep for the device to enter deep sleep. I had the same problem and when I started turning off wifi and mobile data for the night GSAM reported deep sleep and I was only losing 3% per night.

Battery is draining very quickly

Hi,
After updated to latest firmware 16.2017.1912.060, my mobile battery is draining very quickly in standby mode. While using it's working fine. But in standby mode I am facing this issue. I closed Bluetooth, Location, Internet (WiFi and mobile data) and put my mobile in Battery saver mode while sleeping. Morning when I checked my battery level, it came to 36% from 85% in standby mode. My screen usage after full charge is 1h10min. So please tell me how to resolve this issue or how to downgrade to previous update.
Thanks.
version 318 , good battery backup
Thanks for the reply.
I got solution from the link

Just made a factory reset on your phone. I think After that your problem will be solved. Because sometimes many third party apps running on background and use the battery. That's why we can't traces how the battery dropped too fast even you enabled battery optimization or in safe mode.
