Hi guys!
So I was wondering, the 2013 Nexus 7 model was recently released & it does pack in a lot of specs since it's new. I was thinking of going for it then I was wondering whether to wait for next KFHD. I've been reading rumours, it looks like overpasses the N7 in benchmarks and also will have much better/newer hardware (for instance, Snapdragon 800 CPU).
What do you guys think? Should I go for the Nexus right now or wait at least until the new Kindle gets announced? I reckon CyanogenMOD would be available later, so software ain't a problem.
Hey everybody,
As most of you know, the Kindle Fire is nearing it's second year and it's showing it's age, mainly because of the lack of RAM.
The 3rd Gen Kindle Fire HDX is released too, which includes 2GB and a Quad core CPU, so it might be a fair upgrade from our 1st kfires.
Unless the 3.4 kernel is fixed and released very soon, the future of the kindle fire in areas of new custom roms/CM will be pretty dubious.
The amount of custom roms for 4.3 is pretty low, so it might be a sign of it's aging, and the 3.0 kernel is pretty old today now.
Thanks everybody for such a great kindle fire sub forum.
Thanks Hashcode for the kernels and pls finish the 3.4 one
I fear this day will come, hopefully after 2 years we still have some great developers making Roms for our device. But is time for a change already

Yeah, I might get the Kfire HDX if they root it and get custom roms on it.
Folks when to expect Android L on our devices! Lets discusse
No idea, but there's no way I'm updating from 4.3 till I'm sure I can use my SDcard the way it's meant to be used (without any restrictions). That, app ops, and battery life. Even then, I'll wait and let others be the guinea pig first and once the problems are ironed out, I'll upgrade directly to 5.0.
Hmm! Thats smart one! But i think aur sd card issues are finnaly solved in kitkat!!

To be honest, I'm not convinced Nvidia is going to bring L to the TN7. They seem to have all but forgotten it since the release of the Shield Tablet. Also, to anyone having battery life issues, have you tried a factory reset? I've had no battery life issues, and I'm running the latest update as well as the custom kernel on the dev page here with the tablet overclocked to the max.
If That happen then i will throw my tablet! I was too excited about it ! Therefore nexus 7(2012) model will get that update and in less time.
Till now im not having any issues with my battery . I havent rooted my tab yet.
I have seen several news sources that have stated the Note 7 will be getting 5.0. I'm really wondering how long it will take.

Knowing HP, its going to be 6 at least months after nVidia releases their Lollipop Update to their TN7, before we get ours...

I'd hope we aren't more than a month or two behind that.

The NVIDIA Shield tablet facebook page states that the shield tablet will get the update first, then the Tegra Note 7 will be done later. Hopefully, it is not too much later.
Placing my bet on TN7 Android L release just after Christmas. Else it be the nVidia middle finger at us!
Either way let's hope the TN7 runs it better than my wife's Nexus 7 is at the moment.
Nvidia has said that they will surely update TN7 after shield tablet but no specific date is given!
Still no update? My tablet wants to update to KitKat, but I won't do it unless I can get lollipop. I've 20GB of apps on SD card so KitKat is not an option. Is lollipop going to be any better for this scenario?
Cheers
FYI guys, as cool as lollipop looks it may be a bad idea to DL it once it comes out.
I did some searching around to see how nexus owners liked it and it basically renders the 2012 version unusable and severely hampers the 2013 FHD version.
From what little info out there about how it runs on the Shield it sounds mostly positive.
My wife's N7 has been spot on since itngot a proper hard reset, I'd say its actually better than it was on KK now but that could be related to the fact its had the hard reset and some unused apps may not have been installed.

I've also heard many people report that their 2013 N7 is running fine; it seems the people having trouble with the update didn't do a full reset, which is always a good option for anyone having issues with any device. As for the 2012 N7, it's running a Tegra 3 while we're sporting a Tegra 4, so I'm sure it won't be a problem for us... frankly, the Tegra 3 was kind of a mess anyway.
Title says it all I know the new hd 10 was released not long ago and the forum seems basically dead but I'm hoping someone is still quietly working along for this tablet I just ordered mine last night! And I'm excited I previously owned one of the original rootable fire 7 loved it too peices the same with my Shield K1
Is the Fire HD 10 still rootable up to the latest version? (And, what is the latest version?) Thank you,

Thank you. I was just wondering, because I were thinking about buying a Fire HD 10 for root, if someone knows about this, please tell here, because I'm not buying another unrootable tablet.

As of the moment, it appears the newer versions discussed, were OTA installs. So far, I have had 3. First one broke, second one was defective and I have my current one. All of them are and were rootable out of the box. I would be absolutely surprised if any of the ones currently on shelves, have a FireOS above 5.6.0.1. My first one came on 5.5.0.0. The other two, 5.6.0.0. My current one is on 5.6.0.1, but came with 5.6.0.0.

Next Monday (7/16) is Amazon Prime Day. I am considering picking up an HD10, if it is on sale @ $99.00 and still rootable.
These tablets are shipped from China, so even the latest stock was probably manufactured 2-3 months ago. It is likely that new stock will come with 5.6.0.1 or possibly 5.6.1.0 installed, both of which are rootable. I have only seen a couple of reports of OTA updates later than 5.6.1.0 to date, so I would be amazed if any tablet bought on prime day would have later software than 5.6.1.0 installed.
To add, my HD10 (purchased in mid March) came with 5.6.0.0 installed. The screen had a defect so I returned it a couple of weeks later. The new replacement was shipped in April: this came with 5.6.0.1 preinstalled.
