Because you have lollipop bootloader and need marshmallow. Search for galaxy j5 bootloader and it will show you how to upgrade/downgrade as necessary for different ROMs

Help needed for upgrade

Hi there,
I'm using 4.4.2 wanamlite 2.9 rom on a i9505 with twrp 2.8.
Recently I encountered lot of problems like modem not working properly, rebooting, videos playing in slowmo, no sound etc... weird stuff...
I'm convinced to upgrade to (lets say) marshmallow (any custom rom) but I dunno how to do it properly. So here my questions:
- should I flash the stock rom and start again with root / custom rom etc? Or...
- should I upgrade with odin to stock modem and bootloader first, and after that install a custom rom via twrp? Which way is the correct one?
Btw. Should I upgrade to lolli, marsh or 7.x? Dunno whats better. I'm using touchwiz with xposed framework. I dont need tw but i find xposed very helpful. Any advice or link to guides?
Thanx
Upgrade the individual components. In your case, that means recovery, bootloader, and modem via Odin. Your copy of TWRP is ancient and the newer versions of Android need a newer version of TWRP to properly flash them. Once you've upgraded the components, download any Android 6.x ROM for your device - since you want Xposed - and flash it via TWRP. Android 7.x ROMs are available for your device, but Xposed does not work on them, and I don't expect it to work any time soon.

Thanx Stephron.
Yesterday I updated via .img the recovery (TWRP 3.2).
Now I'll look for bootloader and modem. Should I use the stock ones or are on xda some threads with better modems and bootloaders?
I think I'm going for resurrection remix or for some aosp. Any experience?
Best and happy new year .

Any ROM compatible with 3.5.6 firmware ?

I've been for a long time on CyanogenMod but I've decided to take a fresh start and reinstall OOS, I used to be on the 3.0.1 firmware and everything was working great. But OOS is buggy and I used to get better battery life on custom ROMs sooo yeah. I've never tried lineage os but I think that it still runs on the older firmware, do you know ROMs working on the latest firmware ? Thanks !
Almost all roms. Exept you may find one where VoLTE is not working.
No roms run on the newer firmware as oneplus sources are from 3.0.x.
Until nougat is released we will not see updated sources.

Custom rom doesn't boot

Hi Guys
I have my Galaxy S5 now +- 3 years, and use a custom rom about 2 years now...
Until now, I'm unable to boot any custom rom, everything freezes at the boot screen...
I was using Resurrection Remix Nougat, but can't update it, not dirty and not clean.
Today I flashed a stock rom with Odin, and I can't boot any custom rom except the stock rom...
Can someone help me please?
thanks in advance!
Check the bootloader and modem, if it's the correct version. Otherwise, recovery might be the culprit. Nougat ROMs are kind of sensitive to older basebands, though results might actually vary.

Pie roms don't boot on my g900f

Hello everyone
I have S5 g900f 16GB on Stock marshmallow ROM and an unknown baseband
I managed to be run aosp 6.0 and 7.1 as well as 8.1 ROMs smoothly without any problems, but when it comes to 9.0 ROMs things start getting ugly. I get stock on the first boot screen showing Samsung Galaxy ST and then reboots to the same screen again
I tried dirty flashing and clean flashing too but with no luck I tried with and without gapps and root but again same result
ROMs I have tried are Los16 by haggertk and AOSP Extended

ROM 7.1 does not start

Hello. I have a problem, I wanted to upload rom in version 7.1.2 but unfortunately it did not work, when I first started I was constantly loading and charging. So I installed an unofficial 8.X. rom. and this works (the phone is booting) but it does not work in camera, operator services and more. I do not know what's going on, why do not I get ANY rom in version 7.1.2 and lower? I also uploaded clean rom 7.0 via fastboot but at the first start it stops at "bootloader is unlocked" and nothing happens. I have the latest TWRP installed, I am asking for help for 2 days without a phone call, I am depressed. sorry for my English

Okay if your operator services aren't working on the unofficial 8.0 Rom then you might have the wrong phone model or your modem is mismatched. Because I know the one you're talking about it's the GZOSP 8.0 rom I installed that one and my cell service worked but the rom was very buggy. If you're using a XT1575 US variant of the Moto X Pure then it's likely your modem if you came from Marshmallow or didn't OTA Nougat to the latest version. See the stock Nougat firmwares you can flash over fastboot have a different modem than the latest Nougat OTA this will cause a dead modem and bootloop on custom roms like NucleaROM or Lineage Unoffical 16.0. Some roms on XDA are for Marshmallow only and your phone won't boot them if you're on a Nougat modem and vice versa. Here's what I recommend flash stock Nougat over fastboot then OTA your phone to the latest version of Nougat it should be on a October 1st, 2017 security patch once you get on that flash the latest TWRP then flash Unofficial Lineage OS 14.1 from hashbang173.
