I just picked up my trusty Oneplus2, and flashed aospextended rom v5.5 running off android 8.1

When the phone goes to the lock screen, the screen does not turn off, it displays the date, time, and battery %.
Which setting do I have to play with to get the screen off when locked?
The battery on this phone is not what it used to be.
Wait a little, a new aex is almost done for release, it should have best battery life and more stable.

Both AEX and RR, just follow the link in the official thread.
I also find lots of unofficial ports for my phones by searching for the device name on android file host, then sorting by date.
That's not a good thing
they can be untested builds which can cause problems so better not go for such builds
wait for the tested once! ALWAYS
Or don't complain about those ROMs

This might be my first post here, but I've been a long time flasher, since nexus s, and I'm at home with this stuff. I've saved many a bricked phone with some handy adb knowhow.
I also know what alpha, beta, nightly, weekly and stable builds are, and look for those in the file names.
I'm now running the latest RR which came out earlier today, and its running great.
I'll keep my eye out for the next aex, as it has quickly become my fav ROM across all my devices.
In regular rotation, across a few phones and tablets, I've used DU, aicp, RR, lineage and aex.
I've also used omni and pa, but not in awhile.

You're better off just staying on the latest build, and not using the nightly or weekly builds. These are not considered 'stable, daily driver' builds, and are aimed at the more experienced user who doesn't shudder at the thought of soft-bricking, or losing data.

How does the FP work in your build? I've heard mixed reviews about it.
I got the nightly build and my browser is crashing sometimes.
Is the stable one (no nightly ) the weekly build?
If yes why does it say that the fingerprintscanner is not working or is it not updatet yet?
I've had no problem with any of the nightlies I've run. Also no need to wipe when switching between cm7 builds. I haven't wiped since the first pre-beta.

The thread "No Nightly Ba2tf" is the current stable and there is a thread for weekly builds courtesy of the atrix-dev-team in the development section. Nightlys are on the get.cm download site.
I normally run nightlys with limited problems and haven't tried a weekly yet but was thinking about it. Most people just stick with the stable builds from the first thread I mentioned

Works great for me, better than blur!! Its more responsive, you can swipe upside down (imagine holing the phone sideways and just swiping your left index finger the "wrong" way and being able to unlock), And it works as a trackball. Very cool.
I flashed today the weekly build and wanted to try the FP somehow the phone turned off and the motorola logo was showing after turning on.
It was really weird, so i flashed the stable one and i still get browser forcecloses sometimes and that really annoys me.

No force closes here. Maybe you need a fresh flash with wipes.
I have some newbie questions:
- I was wondering why there weren't any CM11 version for the S4 (T-Mobile) on cyanogenmod.com?
- Also, how can I get the stock Lollipop icons on the CM12 nightly?
- Will there be a stable version of CM12 eventually or will it only be nightlies?
- How stable are the nighlies?
Thanks
CM11 was a unified project I think. Meaning that all CM roms were under the JFLTXX project..
Stock lollipop meaning? If you want a pure android experience, go with a GPE rom.
Devs start working on Nightlies once the rom has reach a stable status, as far as I know.
So it's Alpha>Beta>RC>Stable>Nightlies.

That's what I thought too from my experience with CM7 some years ago. But I can't find the stable build. But I've decided not to use it because on a ongoing bug with the microphone having a very low volume. I tried two different fixes to no avail. Other than the fact that it's a phone and the microphone is kind of important, I record song ideas on my phone.
Stock lollipop I mean just the icons that come with lollipop. CM12 changes a lot of the icons to their own.

A nightly build is a neutral build. These typically take place when no one is likely to be working in the office so that there are no changes to the source code during the build.

I did not know that! I'll have to check it out! As far as icons are concerned, they're just icons. If I like CM12 I won't let that come in my way. Plus I haven't found GPE version that works well on my phone (for Lollipop, not KitKat).
That being said I still don't know if there ever was a stable release of CM12. And what is a snapshot release?

AntaresOne and Alucard's optimized CM12 builds seem to be stable. I flashed it on a friends s4 and it works fine.
The GPE rom builds by Danvdh are pretty stable. I have no issues here. Been very stable and problem free since the day I first flashed the rom. Also has nice battery life. Battery stats once reported up to 14 day of battery life wheb idle
Edit: You can find a description about nightly, snapshot, rc, and stable in the cyanogenmod device selection. If they didn't change the layout. But I know for sure there were descriptions of what each of those terms mean

Thanks!
For Danvdh indeed it seems to be a great ROM but I can't use is on my phone. I have a bug that I was never able to get rid of no matter what type of wiping I used or what kernel I installed and I'm unable to get the logcat through ADB to report the bug properly. I install it and everything runs smoothly until the screen shuts off after being idle for 10 minutes. Then I wake it up and instead of showing me the lock screen it tries to show the home screen, then the screen goes blank, then goes black, shows the home screen, goes blank, goes black and so on until I reboot it. Once it's rebooted, on the lock screen I get a UI System has crashed message. The phone is then ususable because I can't get further than that. I would love for it to work as it would give me GPE and Lollipop!

On my phone it's working really really fast. I don't know how they did that. The only thing is that it's based on 5.0 so with the bugs that were originally on 5.0. I hope it'll be updated to 5.1. But otherwise it's great!

The dev lost his phone or something like that. I just know he doesn't have an S4 anymore, that's why development stopped.
But he is about to get another one soon.
Hello, changed software numerous times on all my previous phones but never took the plunge with my S5 ...
It has now gotten slow, bit buggy etc...
So want to finally take the plunge... what's the best / fastest most stable rom available now?
Iv'e always liked stock android aswell... Currently running Android 6 standard Samsung / Touchwiz ...
Much help / advice appreciated... thanks
I have tried a fare amount of roms for this device, such as Liquid smooth, AICP, Resurrection remix, Bliss pop, CM13 since the past year.
In my experience cm13 is the the most stable custom rom, but not necessarily the fastest.
However I have been using Exodus since the past week, I have not had any app crashes and is much faster at booting and shutting down my S5, and over all the overall responsiveness is much better. Compared to all the other roms I have used.

That is what I thought when I found this rom but, they do nightly updates nearly every day, the latest is 14/10/2016 at the moment which you can find here >
They are also the official release as well
Thanks guys, will take a look... does the finger print scanner work on that one?
Just seems a bit daunting there's that many with all differents features etc lol... Seems hard to find a preferably stock android (similar to nexus) or a simple, perfectly working, fast, stable rom...
Unfortunately it does not have a fingerprint scanner as a option but you could always try xposed and download this module here >
Alright, so after ROM-hopping for quite a bit over the past three months, I've got a fairly good idea about the various ROMs for our device, unofficial or otherwise. With Oreo coming out soon, and most Nougat ROMs getting their final builds, I thought this might be a good time to give my impressions. While old-timers might not get much use out of this, I'm hoping this will help out anyone that's recently bought a Z2, or is new to XDA.
INTRODUCTION
So, you got a Z2 and are looking to try a new custom ROM to get away from the horror show that is ZUI. Well, I've got good and bad news for ya.
The good- well, if you're a "normal" user that uses his phone to call, text, browse and game for a bit, most ROMs are gonna please you. Most of them are "stable" at this point, meaning you'll get very few crashes/random restarts unless you go full ham installing esoteric Xposed modules. But if you're new to XDA, you're probably unaware of Xposed anyway.
The bad- Most of them will also have some minor issues, and the only way to know if a ROM is perfect for you is to try it. Everyone has their own use cases/expectations from a ROM and thus will have a different experience than you.
My usage: I do not use Google Apps, except for Maps. Most of the apps I use are free/open source, except a few unavoidable one's like banking apps and WhatsApp. That being said, I've tried most(all?) of these ROMs with both Gapps and no Gapps to get a fair impression. Played a few games too, to test the phone in demanding situtations.
I have divided this guide into categories, roughly based on a users requirements. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Usually, if a ROM has insane performance, battery life tends to suffer. The key, as with all things in life, is finding the right balance. When a category has numerical ratings, I will be using a relative scale out of 10. A 10 does not mean that a ROM is perfect in an area, only that it was the best one that I came across.
With that lengthy, but neccessary introduction out of the way, here's the guide:
CATEGORY A: I want my phone to fly, battery life be damned!
I feel that 3 ROMs fit the bill here:
1. VIperOS by @jneto3000
2. Citrus CAF by @DD3Boh
3. Pure Fusion OS by @devabhi
While Viper has been the smoothest by a tiny margin, all these ROMs have amazing performance, and ran anything I threw at them without a hitch. I never had any UI lags while scrolling in apps. That being said, each does have a drawback. With Viper, I've always had a bit of a delay in the fingerprint scanner, PureFusion has been (slightly) unstable for me, and Citrus CAF hasn't recieved the latest KRACK patches, which makes it a no-go from a security POV.
Overall Ratings:
ROM RATING
Viper 10
Citrus CAF 9.5
PureFusion 9.5
Jaguar 9
LineageOS 8.8
crDroid 8.3
AquariOS 8
CarbonROM 7.8
NOTE: Just because I said, "Battery life be damned", doesn't mean all these ROMs have atrocious battery life. In fact, I got ~6.5 hrs SOT with Citrus CAF + Gapps, which is pretty good.
CATEGORY B: I want a good mix of performance, stability and battery life.
I'm guessing most of you belong to this category. Well you're in luck, because most ROMs for Z2 also belong to this category. You can have your pick amongst:
1. LineageOS by @varotone. Was personally my favorite ROM, extremely stable, lightning fast fingerprint, good performance (lagged a bit in games, but butter smooth for other apps) and good battery life. Unfortunately, it hasn't, and will probably never recieve patches for the KRACK vulnerability, so the more security conscious amongst you might want to avoid it. EDIT: Turns out, we did a get a new build, with the same great performance+battery life, but it does have a slow fingerprint unlock, when the phone has been asleep for a while.
2. Jaguar by @optimumpro. Similar to Lineage, it had frame drops with Games, but was rather smooth otherwise. I used this before Lineage, but my screen-on-time reduced drastically after a couple of weeks . On the flipside, many users have, and continue to report good battery life with it, so take my words with a grain of salt. r17 really improves the GPS performance.
3. crDroid by @Subhrajyoti Sen. Insane battery life. I got ~8.5 hrs of SOT (without Gapps) on my second charge cycle. Began to lag a bit so I switched to Viper, although the latest unofficial build has rectified the performance issues. Haven't tried it myself though.
4. AquariOS by @kenny3fcb. Nothing much to say, just a stable ROM with a good battery life. Hasn't been updated for quite sometime though, so no KRACK or Blueborne vulnerability patches.
CATEGORY C: I want security and longevity
Security conscious? Want frequent updates?
The answer, lads- is Jaguar by @optimumpro, and honestly- it's not even close. I think the only way to find the best ROM for yourself is to find a dev whose priorities/use cases align with yours. And if security is your priority- then @optimumpro is your man.
Damn, I sound like a sales guy.
On a serious note though, while I have little idea what Jaguar's security features like- "hardened bionic" do from a technical standpoint, I can tell you that it's usually the first ROM to incorporate security patches and tweaks, from Google or other sources. The dev takes out the time to respond to most queries, and he's said that the ROM will be maintained and updated till Oreo gets completely stabilized.
It has come to my attention that the dev apparently does not release the source code for Jaguar, so I can no longer recommend Jaguar as a privacy-focused ROM.
CATEGORY D: I want a great battery life
1. crDroid by @Subhrajyoti Sen. The last official build gave me the best overall battery life I've had yet.
2. CarbonROM by @ankit99. Pretty good idle consumption. My battery dropped just 1% overnight. Unfortunately not very stable, and hasn't been updated in a while.
Other noteworthy ROMs
1. AEX by @davidevinavil. While I personally didn't a have a great experience with v4.6 of this ROM, a lot of people have. And the dev has always been active, answering most queries. It's worth trying out the 22nd July build, which is pretty good, but doesn't have any recent security patches.
2.. AEX Unofficial by @Star_king12. While ROM has been discontinued, the dev was very helpful with user queries. Also, the 13th September build gave me some of the best battery life I've had on the Z2. I think he's working on a new ROM, so keep an eye out!
I haven't tried every ROM for the Z2, and I'm sure there are few good ones I've missed. Feel free to point to out any in the comments.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm personally using the last ViperOS build for now, and will continue to do so, if the fingerprint issue doesn't bother me too much. If it does, I might give the latest PureFusion or (unofficial) crDroid builds a try. But by and large, I'm happy with Viper.
I hope this helps some of you.

To temper your expectations, I gotta tell you that some people, including me, do have a problem with the GPS on Viper. It does work, but only when you've locked on via WiFi/mobile data, otherwise it takes an eternity to lock on with GPS only. Also, Viper's fingerprint scanner takes a slightly long time to unlock if the phone's been asleep. But it's still a pretty great ROM.

I'd say go with the last LineageOS build. I would have never left that ROM if it had recieved KRACK patches.
If you NEED to have the security patch, then I'd say go with the last (official) crDroid build. I didn't find any noteworthy bugs while the phone was on, however there's a rather scary bug with offline charging- the display gets flipped and and the phone refuses to turn on unless you press the power button for a long time. Performance is slightly worse than Lineage though.
Viper is also a good choice if you can live with the slow fingerprint recognition time when the phone is asleep and the GPS issue mentioned above. It's what I'm currently using. Best performance, okay battery life.
Also, if you can wait a couple of days, @miju12 is gonna release a new ROM - DotOS. Maybe he's managed to iron out the bugs that are in other ROMs.
Hope this helps.

Why the Lineage ROM never became Official? Does it support VoLTE?
Is there a way to install KRACK patch manually over any ROM? I wan't to try Lineage as I am using it on Moto G and it is bug free on it. Also, I believe it does not have the latest camera blobs right? We have to flash it?

IIRC to become official, the ROM should pass certain quality tests, be mostly bug-free, sensors should work properly etc. By the time the dev ironed out the bugs, he had to step away from development due to personal reasons. I don't think it has the latest camera blobs, volte should work though.
And it doesn't seem that you can flash a security patch manually, if you find out it is possible, please let us know! I feel a lot of users would return to Citrus CAF and Lineage if they had the security patches.

Your reply makes no sense in the current context. n'wah replied that "to become official, the ROM should pass certain quality tests" and to which I said a new ROM which is not even used by anyone yet is already official. Where does the question of paying or not paying comes here? I think you took it in the wrong sense.
I am still not clear about how this Official status gets decided? Lineage, AOSGP-X are out for long time but Unofficial and here is a new ROM which had issues with the first build and it is already official !!
I like many other users appreciate your and other developer's work and I am also excited about the new ROM you are coming up with. The discussion here was about the Official / Unofficial status.

I am still not clear about how this Official status gets decided? Lineage, AOSGP-X are out for long time but Unofficial and here is a new ROM which had issues with the first build and it is already official !!

Seriously do you think I have done a random build and publish it? Usually I test my builds myself before publishing but this time I was low on data and the previous build was working good so I didn't test and published which was my mistake and I agree for it. I can't speak for other Roms.
So I've been meaning to try out some new ROMs lately and I'm wondering if any of yallz have any favorites or recommendations to throw my way. Currently I'm running the latest Resurrection Remix build for this beloved device and have been stuck on it for a while. It seems many of our ROMs have stopped in terms of development so I'm looking for direction in what to try. Thanks!

I'm partial to AospExtended. Pure Android (AOSP) with benefits.

Many thanks that's next on the list! Haven't even glanced in that direction yet.
Edit: How is it in terms of battery life? As of now I can go about 9 hrs with heavy use and no charge.
Official lineageos because of weekly builds

It's an efficient ROM on most platforms (typical for AOAP). I do not run it on my G4P as stock MM w/Xposed and a few kernel tweaks is a better match for my needs in this device.

I gave lineage a shot as one of my first ever custom OS's but it seemed to be lacking in customization. Last I remember there's no stable substratum support or anything of that sort and I love my colors haha. Maybe I'll give it another go though. Feel free to add anything to persuade me!

Yes I ran a deodexed MM stock rom for a while with xposed but I feel as if xposed gets messy (could just be me going crazy with the availabilities.) Definitely lots of fun tho. A couple hours ago I installed xposed over RR just to see what would happen and it didn't do me over like I thought. It worked well but xposed isn't the route I wanna take at this time.
Thanks for your answers!

Of the ROMs mentioned RR is probably the most customizable (w/o add ons) followed by AEX and Lineage. Each suits a different audience. Enjoy the hunt.
i have been on the rom that no one talks about much and i have been on it for months.i try to switch but keep falling back..its the VIPER ROM...its been very stable..good battery life...everything works..GPS is best among all roms..i dont know what they have done but i get a fix pretty fast...i am looking for an alternative but havent found anything that comes close in stablity and function.it may not be as customizable as RR or aospextended...but its very smooth ..even on stock kernel.give it a try if you may....https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620760488
