Messaging app crashing after Oreo update (H870 model) - LG G6 Questions and Answers

After yesterday's upgrade to Oreo I can't open messaging app. It's crashing before opening.
I cleared app cache/data, made phone reset ... Any solution?
Thank you!

go to settings, aplications and select messages app and clear cache and data of that app. reboot the phone and see if this works...

That's what I've done. It's written in first post.

Have you try to update chrome? Or go to setting->developer option->webview choose Chrome stable.

It's updated and set in webwiew ... Is this ooption somwhow connected with messaging app?
p.s.:, I've done hard reset and now it works.

Because I ever uninstall chrome and didn't set webview, the messaging app has stopped like you. ?

Interesting

Hi there.
Same problem with Message app here.
Chrome is up to date, and set in webview by default (i cannot select Android webview, it's grayed out).
So I downloaded"Android Messages" by Google, set it as default messege app in settings. Et vaula...
My Messages app doesn't work but I'm able to send and receive SMS.

Try to delete all messages.
Than default app'll probaly start to work.

I had same problem. I have 2 sms apps. When I woke up this morning, all stopped working . Then I read here about the chrome thing. So I remembered I disabled Chrome lastnight. So I enabled it then sms apps working again. Why is chrome connected to my sms apps? Hhmmm...

Go into settings > applications > manage applications and just clear the defaults.

I have this exact same problem with the sms widget in jachero2.63 I installed handcent sms and assigned the sms widget to use the default sms app by mistake. I used the above method to attempt to clear defaults and it appears to have no default apps assigned. Any ideas??
Uninstall Handcent, then reinstall. The first time you use it (again), it should give you the option to set it as the default....

Handcent refuses to download MMS

Hey guys. this just started happening to me yesterday. Handcent refuses to download mms messages. I hit the download button, it blinks over to 'downloading' like it's supposed to, but then switches right back to the download button with no results. I've tried fully restarting the phone and still, nothing happens. I've checked for any available updates in the Market and there's nothing available.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any tips/tricks to get this working for me?
I've had that happen before. Try clearing cache or cache and data from the app. If that don't work, uninstall it and download/install from market.

Okay so, i went into settings > applications > manage applications > Handcent Messenger and the only option i can find that seems like a cache clear is clear data, which i would assume wipes out all my past convo's. Where should i be looking to clear the cache?
This happened to me on Saturday as well. I received an MMS and I couldn't download it. I was on Wi-Fi at the time so I decided to switch over to 3G and it seemed to do the trick.
Mistasal has a point. WiFi will often take precedence over network and mms won't travel over WiFi. I just assumed you could clear cache. I just reinstalled when it happened to me. Plus you can save all sms/mms with apps like sms backup+ they are free and restore your convos.

The newest version has bugs that's causing the problems. If you could, roll back to version 3.7.9
The phone is supposed to switch to 3g to download mms. You still have the stock messaging app installed? Are you able to download the attachment with that? If not, you could try updating your profile (settings/update/update profile).
Handcent has lots of good issues, but it's downfall is wake lock issues when received messages are not checked. This has been somewhat less of an issue with cm7, but any subsequent messages throw the program into a wakelock state. To clarify, you receive one text, don't look at it. At this point, handcent uses only a few seconds in a wakelock state. Now, repeat test, but also receive a 2nd text (so now 2 unread texts). Wakelock state will be present until you unlock the phone. Not good.
Oddly enough, my phone only d/l's and sends MMS when WiFi is on. If I'm on 3G, I can only sent text messages. Handcent always gave me so much trouble with htis, I only use stock MMS now.
Your phone supposedly isn't supposed to download mms over wifi, only 3g/1x. Also, go to your stock messaging app, settings, and make sure your "auto retrieve" box is checked.

I dunno about the data connection. It worked when wifi was on and didn't work while it was off.
I'm also not able to download images in the stock messenger unless i'm on wifi.
Finally, if i turn on the auto-retrieve, i'll have two sets of messages to check.
You can have auto retrieve on, but you need notifications turned off in stock

Stock messaging app keeps going back to DEFAULT on it's own....

I use Google Voice and some other texting app... I want my phone to ask me everytime I want to send a text which app I want to use, so I "clear default" on the stock messaging app. but it keeps selecting back on it's own!! It's annoying. Does anyone know how to stop this? if I clear defaults now, few minutes later the stock app is "default" again!

I would suggest freezing that messaging app that you are not using. Titanium backup does this.

That doesn't help. I "turned off" stock app but my other messaging app (goSMS) then sets itself as default! when I clear defaults for goSMS few minutes later it will select itselft as default, just like stock app does. Now, if I uninstall goSMS then "hangouts" will be default and will select itself as default!... So for some reason, clearing defaults for messaging doesn't work because random messaging app will set as default on it's own, wheather is stock app, goSMS or hangouts.
I guess nobody else have the same problem??? I have 4 browsers, Opera, Chrome, Mozilla and stock browser app and everytime I click on a link (say, from a text message I click a link some friend sent me) phone will ask which browser I want to use and then I pick... that is exactly what I want on text messages! I need the phone to ask me everytime I send a text so I can choose stock app or google voice! but everytime I clear defaults, they go back to defaul on it's own.

Google Messages - texts being deleted

Hi,
Couldn't find an answer to this.
My text/SMS messages get deleted after a certain limit is reached when using Google Messages. I don't see an option to stop this from happening. Google Messages on my non-Samsung device (Nexus 5) doesn't delete anything.
Is there a setting somewhere I can change to prevent any texts from being deleted?
Thanks.

This doesn't exist in Android Messages (by Google) - at least not the version I have (2.4.035).
That option is there for the Samsung app but greyed out for me since I have the Google app set as default messaging app.
I've set the Samsung app as default, turned off the auto delete, then assigned Android Messages as default again. I'll see if that changes anything but I don't see why settings in a Samsung app should change my Google apps.

voice dictation not working?

Hey everyone
I have a fossil Gen 4 and having some issues. Regular google assistant seems to work but when I go to reply via voice on a text (using Google messages app) I tap the mix icon to reply and it tries to open but then immediately closes and goes back to the previous screen.
Anyone else have this issue or know how to resolve?
I'm in the process of doing a factory reset on the watch.
Previously I have tried clearing cache for messages, google. I tried uninstalling messages. Making sure all permissions are set correctly. I even rolled google back and nothing.
Anyone else encounter this?
Update.
Factory reset on the watch did not make any difference. Still doing it
Try open your phone and launch a web page (and refresh), after try the mic for dictation on watch to see what happen (when phone screen still on) ?

No, phone use is just to ensure all is right for internet connection. You must use your normal voice reply on watch but after you are sure that phone is connected to internet at this time.

Like I said assistant works fine on the watch. If I swipe to open assistant it will detect my voice just fine.
As per my OP I was saying that in the messages app when I go to voice reply and tap the mic icon it will open for a split select then close and go back to the options on how I want to reply

you have to do it through Play Store
Edit: Go to Play Store, swipe down, choose my applications option, Google...
Just want to chime in and say I have the same problem. Removing the update for the Google app by selecting uninstall through Google Play worked.
Unfortunately, I'm also unable to setup Google Pay on my watch. After opening Google Pay I tap "Set it up," it spins saying, "Getting your cards" then fails with "Something went wrong please try again." Works just fine on the phone app, any suggestions for the watch?
This latest update is a real doozy!

Now I have also this issue in my LG-W7 and Ticwatch Pro.
Solution is effectively to remove update for the "Google app". And like we have no option to remove update, we must uninstall the "Google App". "Google" is a System app, so uninstall do not uninstall but remove all update and now Voice command works again (and bonus it seem that battery life is better now..... )
