Hi,
After update to 8.1 from 7.x I have a lot of problems. (These problems coming from restore a folder /data from 7.x version ...)
First that, my wifi doesn't work, so I have to remove one folder in /data/, and wifi start working.
Second problem, was about Internet - wasn't work, I remove one folder in /data/, and Internet start working
Now I have trouble with hotspot.
1) In developer settings I have option 'hardware tethering accelerator' when i turn it on, close developer settings, and open again - this option turns off
2) When I try to tether by Wifi/USB/BT I cant do this,
For example,
I turn off my phone internet, start wifi hotspot.
I see SSID, and I join to hotspot by laptop, I can do this.
After this I turn on internet in my phone, I'm still connected in laptop, but laptop dont have internet and I see a text 'ERROR' under 'turn on hotspot wifi' in tethering options
I think that I should remove one more folder, but which folder responds to tethering settings?
Best regards

Hey guys
I'm a big time noob, and the HD2 is a complete marvel for me, its my first WM device and I'm learning alot thats for sure. If there is an obvious solution, apologies in advance
I've been looking around the forums and googling for answers, but still unsure about the data connection and wifi settings in the HD2, and have spent the last few days checking the connection status/settings. Sometimes I find that the WiFi and/or Data Connection ON/OFF toggle section is greyed out in Settings, no idea why as I haven't been able to find a real reason. Could anyone please explain why this may be the case?
Ideally I'd like the WiFi to be the preferred internet access mode, but I'm not sure what my phone is using when I access online content. I can see the wireless is connected, but how can I be sure its definitely using it? I can check the notifications that I'm connected, but I'm also seeing a connection to "Contract Internet" which is normally on H with full bars.
On my previous phone a Nokia N95 8gb (nothing compared to HD2 bar the camera ) whenever I wanted to go online, I had it set to "ask" what connection to use, e.g. I had a list of connections such as Vodadafone Contract (3G/GPRS) or from a list of my defined WiFi connections.
Is there something similar somewhere in the HD2 settings that would "ask" what kind of connection to use? It would be great if someone could let me know.
Sorry to be a pest, but anyone?
Hi there. I'm not an expert myself and HD2 is my first Windows Mobile device as well. I'll try and help, because I spent some time looking for answer on that particular subject. Let's go through this point by point.
(1) You have to understand the notification icons that appear on the topbar. Download the official user manual here and look for pages 39-40. These notifications are realtime, thus more precise than the Comm Manager.
(2) Let's be clear: the word "data connections" that appear in the Comm Manager only refer to the internet connections using 2G (GPRS or EDGE) or 3G (UMTS or HPSDA), not Wifi. So it won't toggle on, even when your wifi connection is up and running.
(3) A lot applications use your internet connection (Data or Wifi), even when the phone is in sleep mode (weather updates, stocks updates etc).
(4) About the following question: I'm not sure what my phone is using when I access online content. I'll tell you the way it works on my phone. Still, you'll need aswers of other people as well. You have to consider different situations.
- If no internet connection is on (no wifi, no data) and an application need to access internet (ex: Eutomatic updates or Opera browser), then the phone will open a data connection (2G or 3G). If it doesn't succeed, you'll get an error message.
- If wifi is already on and connected, but data connection is off, the applications will use the wifi connection. Unlike data connection, the applications are not able to "force wifi connection" if it's not already connected... I don't know if there is a setting or a tweak to change this.
(5) Unfortunately, I already experienced some application that "force" the opening of data connections, even with wifi on and connected. That's why I disable every automatic updates. I only do manual updates... and it "obeys", meaning that updates use the wifi when I'm connected, and force data connection when wifi is not available. I tried some complex (freewares) softwares like WMLongLife (found here) because I wanted the data connection to disconnect automatically after an updates (manual or automatic), but they were not very handy. The latest I tried gave me the best results. It's called Bandswitch 0.3 (found here). It works great in doing just that: automatic data disconnection after idle delay you choose.
(6) Is there something similar somewhere in the HD2 settings that would "ask" what kind of connection to use? I'm not absolety sure, but you could try to reach this settings. Follow this path: Windows icon -> Start menu -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections (yes, once again) -> Go to the tab called "Advanced" -> Click on the button "select networks". Here you can find what program which network programs must automaticaly use. You'll be able to see the 2G/3G network, but I'm not sure what you should choose to enable WIFI connection... Tell me if you find!
That's it folk. Cheers.

(subscribed to the thread because I think something that would let you pick your connection type would be ace)

I also noticed this, but yesterday I found an option in Activesync windows mobile device centre on my PC by accident. It says "disable data connection on phone when connected to PC"
If you untick this box you can connect to wifi and GPRS/HSDPA all whilst still connected to the PC through usb!

I guess you'd wanna do that only if your PC is not connected already to the internet... which is rare...
Because your device is automatically connected to the network your laptop/pc is currently connected to.

If your computer uses a proxy server to connect to the internet, your phone doesn't assume the same identity as your PC. At work I can't use the PCs internet connection on my phone when I connect via ActiveSync, but my phone charges and I can browse it in file explorer.
That's one reason why you'd want to do it
Hi, I posted in q and a forum bit desperate for a solution as I'm stuck on a train for 4 hrs with no,connection.
I have flashes the Gingerblur rom. 6.5 which gives me the free tethering apn. I selected it but don't know what else I need to do to make it work.
Do I need to select a specific usb connection? Does it need wifi enabled? If someone can please help point me in the right direction.... i know this isn't very complicated I am new to android and hard for me to find the answer from the phone
this is what I do, not sure if it'll work for you but you can give it a try.
Enable Mobile Hotspot
Then, goto .. Settings -> Wireless and Network Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> ATT Free Tether (or whatever teh APN is named in Gingerblur, mines is from aRoot so its labeled ATT Free Tether)
Select ATT Free Tether, and you should be able to edit it. DONT EDIT ANYTHING. Just save it (options button, save) then exit it. ... mobile hotspot should activate shortly
Hey that seems like it works for me... the mobile hotspot icon turned from red to blue. But still no Internet on the lappy.
Does it need to be using wifi or will it work with the data connex?
Is there a specific usb setting i need
Thanks very much
does your laptop have wifi? You have to connect to your phone using wifi.
Also -- you should make a password for your hotspot. Go into mobile hotspot settings, and then wifi hotspot settings, and then configure your hotspot.
there you should see the name (Network SSID) if your hotspot. Set a password, and then using your laptop, scan for the wireless networks available, click on your hotspot, and plug in your password.
should be all set from there.
hey it worked! thanks so much, i was trying to connect using my usb connection...as this was how i did it on my old WM phone.
Not sure if i can make it work with the pwd, but for now i'm up and running with an open connection.
Thank you thank you!
yea so recently my nexus wont keep the option to keep wifi on during sleep checked, everytime i pickup the nexus its gone back to "never" keep connected.
also, in the wifi advanced settings theres an options called "direct-wifi" it bring up peer devices,,,, is this a file sharing feature?
edit: ok "facepalm" a reboot seems to have solved the wifi-on prob., but still wondering what wifi-direct is
edit 2: found it Wi-Fi Direct
Android now supports Wi-Fi Direct for peer-to-peer (P2P) connections between Android-powered devices and other device types without a hotspot or Internet connection. The Android framework provides a set of Wi-Fi P2P APIs that allow you to discover and connect to other devices when each device supports Wi-Fi Direct, then communicate over a speedy connection across distances much longer than a Bluetooth connection.
NEW REPLY,
ok now its gone back to resetting to switch wifi off with screen off,
with this option constantly re-enabling itself will i be able to receive notifications while screen off?
FOUND ANSWER.
problem was a app called wifi-unlocker that i had given admin right to, it was for some reason shutting off my wifi with the screen off.....dont know why but uninstalled checked the box rebooted and now no issue
After creating WiFi hotspot in windows 8.1, i am able to connect to internet but in between the connection pauses and i cannot receive data, nor PC neither my phone shows problem with connection, but no data is received.
Explaining further
1. I created hotspot in Windows 8.1 by the default method, and even tried connectify hotspot and some bunch of software.
2. When I connect my phone to the hotspot, the connection will be successful and i can browse, but after sometime data is not received but i can browse flawlessly in PC at the same time.
3. For Ex. say if i sent a message in Whatsapp from phone connected to PC hotspot, the message wont leave my phone, it will be there for a minute or two, and it will leave.
i updated my WiFi Drivers, tried a couple of third party applications, but no use.
But if i install any of the previous version of Windows, there is no problem like this.:crying:
My problem is different.
I can create hotspot on windows8.1. works perfectly fine in galaxy y gingerbread.
But I'm not able to use the same with lenovo a7 30 tablet with kitkat 4.4.
I can connect to hotspot but when other network shared to this it is getting disconnected.
Any solutions?
Hello fellow OnePlus 2 users!
I have many saved WiFi networks on my device. But there's a particular network (say X) which I don't want my device to auto connect, if required I want to manually connect to it. But what happens is my device just connects to X and I have to forget that network in order to connect to a different network. And when the need arises I have to manually put in the password for the network X in order to connect again. I know it's not a big deal, but seems tiresome when you have to forget and save a network multiple times.
I recall, in Xiaomi phones running MiUi there is a feature to manually connect to any network. Here, when you turn on your phone's WiFi the saved networks appear and you can simply tap to connect to whichever you want to.
I'm running stock Oxygen OS 3.6.0 rooted with Magisk. Is some app or workaround possible to achieve this feature?
Thanks.
