I've been looking to root my phone, but it has the January 2018 security patch and I read you can't root with the latest security patch unless you downgrade. So my question is, is there really no way to root without downgrading because I would prefer not to downgrade.

You can't downgrade a 910 No kdz files available. Do a bit of searching there's a 910 root thread floating around

Cheers man, I've been looking around, but all I can find is the dirtysanta way and from what I read I can't do it from my understanding since I have the January security patch.

Hey I asked a simliar Q before, but wanted to make sure of something. Im rooted on H918 10D and have unchecked 'Automatic system updates' in developer options. Is this enough to stop the 10i update or does this only apply to Android 7.0?
Ive already read flashing the 10i via TWRP or LG Bridge will kill the current root exploit.
My fear is losing root without my choosing.
You could freeze both update apks with titanium that would keep update from running at all.

Which APK's would I need to freeze??
It won't install due to twrp blocking it. No need to worry if you already have twrp

Hello!
I have recently installed November Update and now I want to root my phone. Does anybody know a method so I will root my phone after that update (or maybe it isn't necessary)? I need certainty, that it will work.
Cheers!
Root using same method as previous updates https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/tool-xiaomi-mi-a1-aio-tool-t3680211

Heh, I have noticed that. I think I'll just wait for November patch, then use AIO Tool.
A: Yes, you'll recieve official OTAs as long as you have stock recovery installed. But there are chances that after rooting if you install any OTA then it might brick your mobile.

Does it mean, that there is a chance, that after installing OTA update (with root), my phone may got bricked/bootloped/etc.?
A new security update is available. It is 127.9 mb. Anyone know if security updates can be installed without losing root? I'm on 10q now, rooted with Magisk and using TWRP for recovery.

If your intent is to root, you'll need to downgrade to a security patch prior to Dec 2016 you can use LG up to flash a kdz, then use the dirty santa exploit to unlock the bootloader and root.

Since you have a 990ds you can downgrade with no problem because anti rollback has not been incremented on the 990. You can find kdz files for your device at lgfirnware. Com. You should be able to get lg up software from LG's website.
