Best Oreo rom available right now - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

Hey can I ask anybody who have tried multiple roms on this phone. What is the best ROM for battery and performance as of now?

Duh, Stock!!!!!!

I have two tried (AospExtended and AOSVP: ViperOS). None of them. After firmware Gapps and Magisk received a reboot in TWRP (bootloop)

Definitely stock ROM.

Jiyu s3 basic 2gb upgrade

Hello thanks for letting me join this forum i have two stock kitkat 4.4.4 s3 basic mobiles that need updating any help would be appreciated in doing this as ive never done this before have tried to flash but dont seem to work ive got root gapps etc .looked at twrp etc but it wont update cleared cache etc can anyone point me in the right direction as i am a complete noob at this .Thanks .OK guys ive updated one to 5.1 have you any recommendations next operating system can i flash twrp flashify windows 10 a nightmare with sp flash tools got there in the end thanks.
Yeah, I had the same problem too. I'm using: [ROM] [6.0.1] Unofficial Sandstrangers LineageOS/CyanogenMod13 , Haven't had any problems so far, and it seems just as fast as the stock ROMS.
Assuming the lollipop ROM you flashed is the same as mine, you should be able to flash any new ROMs directly from TWRP now.

Switch Back to the oldest stock rom

I'm done flashing roms. Lotta awesomeness but lotta bugs too. Currently im on ASOP Extended ROM 7.1.1 with TWRP (Hybrid) 3.0.2 and I want to go back. Way back, to lollipop or something. Where everything is stable and it works. Somewhere oxygen OS.
1)So would the method be a twrp flash of official firmware ?
2) I want to retain superuser priviledge and TWRP Hybrid. How do I do that after flashing official stuff since the firmware resets everything to original ?
3) I'm just looking for battery life. Would you suggest reverting to oxygen os lollipop or marshmallow ? ( NO I DON'T NEED VOLTE PLEASE SPARE ME. I JUST NEED 2 SIMS TO WORK.) (got a better rom ? suggest !)
Thanks IN ADVANCE XDA ! You've been great !

Custom rom doesn't boot

Hi Guys
I have my Galaxy S5 now +- 3 years, and use a custom rom about 2 years now...
Until now, I'm unable to boot any custom rom, everything freezes at the boot screen...
I was using Resurrection Remix Nougat, but can't update it, not dirty and not clean.
Today I flashed a stock rom with Odin, and I can't boot any custom rom except the stock rom...
Can someone help me please?
thanks in advance!
Check the bootloader and modem, if it's the correct version. Otherwise, recovery might be the culprit. Nougat ROMs are kind of sensitive to older basebands, though results might actually vary.

FingerPrint Enrollment not working on any Custom Rom

The fingerprint was working fine on stock rom. Unlocked the bootloader and flashed twrp image. Somehow I formatted the internal storage erasing everything. After that, I flashed Pixel Experience custom rom and the fingerprint scanner isn't working. Getting "fingerprint enrollment issue". The enrollment happens only when I try pressing it very hard and I didn't face the issue on stock rom. I tried every custom rom available my bad. Somehow registered the edge of the finger and its working for now. What is the issue, I don't think it is hardware issue Any fixes for the same?

By any chance were you on the Oreo soak test when last on Stock rom? If so, the blobs wouldn't be compatible. Confirm whether or not that was the case, and if it is, then I'll point you in the right direction.
Yes I was on soak test. Pls help Moto g5s plus

Taken from the Oreo thread:
Important information if downgrading to Nougat and Custom Oreo roms
The Oreo roms will change the ownership of specific files and folders in the /persist folder. As a result of this, stock Nougat will have issues such as lost IMEI, no Volte, no 4G, etc. In order to overcome these issues, either follow the instructions in the link above, or flash the following zip in TWRP.
potter-stock-persist-fix.zip
Another potential issue is that, as a result of various partitions being updated, the new Oreo blobs may not be compatible with existing Nougat roms (stock or custom), or even current Custom Oreo roms. This may result in issues such as the fingerprint reader not working, etc. To ensure they run correctly, it is MANDATORY to install one of the latest Stock Nougat TWRP flashables. This will ensure that all affected partitions are compatible with Stock Nougat and Custom Oreo roms. You can get these from this thread here:
[Nougat][Stock][Rom] TWRP Flashable Stock Builds
So flash the persist fix from the first link, and flash the latest Nougat stock rom from the second. Reboot and make sure all is working OK in stock. Then flash whichever custom rom you want.

Step by step instructions are in my post above... Do you have a more specific question?
Does this work with moto G5s plus [sanders]
Will the above method work with moto g5s plus sanders

Yes, if you did the same thing, i.e. flashed stock Oreo and then went to an Oreo custom rom, then yes the same approach will work. I have a flashable build and persist fix for sanders here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=280579
Clean flash/Dirty flash?
@NZedPred I am facing the same problem. I own the Indian Moto G5 Plus (retin)
Here's what I did -
1. I unlocked my bootloader
2. I updated to Oreo (soak test) using the OTA capture.
2. I somehow rooted my phone after flashing TWRP.
3. Just after I flashed TWRP i.e. before rooting, I took a complete backup including the persist and EFS partitions.
4. After rooting, I clean installed MSM-Xtended ROM (8.1.0)
5. Everything is fine, but the fingerprint feature doesn't work/appear anywhere. Even the gesture support is gone.
What do I need to do?
If I follow your steps mentioned above i.e. flashing the persist-fix first, flashing the Nougat ROM you provided and then flashing any custom ROM, how should I proceed?
I am really confused whether I should clean flash (Wipe Data, System, Cache) after every step or dirty flash everything.
Please guide me.
Before you go back to custom ROM from stock Oreo ROM you have to flash stock nouget ROM if not fingerprint , NFC will not work.

I was also in the same problem of fingerprint not working. Tried your method i.e. flashed persist zip and nougat rom (after wiping dalvik, system ,data, cache) and now when I try to clean flash custom Oreo rom . Gapps is not getting flashed . Its detecting the rom as 7.1.2. any solution for this

can you please guide me to install a custom oreo rom. because when i try to flash custom oreo rom (franken rom i used) , the rom gets flashed but the gapps (arm64 mini 8.1.x) fails everytime and shows error code 20 (incompatible rom). but i had flashed both the rom and the gapps successfully before the fingerprint issue bcoz of which i had to flash the stock 7.0 with the persist fix. and one more thing the rom is getting flashed succesfully (as twrp shows me) but when i try to boot into system without the gapps installed( i.e. only with the rom) it gets stuck on the bootloader page so i think the rom itself is not getting flashed. please help......

Has anyone managed to get any custom ROM to work on a SM-A405FN/DS ?

Hello !
Has anyone actually managed to get any custom ROM to work on a Samsung Galaxy A40 SM-A405FN/DS ?
Mine is currently running the current latest stock ROM (SM-A405FN_2_20211030045838_jg43vcqbiw_fac) downloaded with Frija and I managed to install TWRP from here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-a40-teamwinrecoveryproject-3-6-x-unofficial.4364575/
However, ANY custom ROM that I try to install :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/a11-r-arm64-a40-lineageos-18-1-unofficial-by-kevios12.4335409/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/eurekaroms/files/Samsung/A40/R/lineage/
GSI
maybe others that I forgot
will either bootloop or end up with a black screen.
Looking at the following threads, I'm starting to wonder if the SM-A405FN/DS is custom-ROM-compatible at all ?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-my-a405fn-wont-boot-any-custom-rom.4337041/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/samsung-a40-black-screen.4354421/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/galaxy-a40-infinite-loop-impossible-to-turn-on.4337343/
Im running CrDroid 7.13 without any issues with root and gapps. Many custom roms bootloop because of your newer firmware with Bit/SW REV.
Security Patch Lvl. being 4 and those custom rom were built on the older firmware with probably patch level 3. I had installed DotOS fan edition fully working like a year ago, then I tried some new custom roms, which somehow broke my system so the system couldnt start up even after reflashing original boot image, so I reflashed to the newest firmware which was working, then I tried flashing older one and it wouldnt boot, it just shows black screen with error bit/sw 3 boot 4. So you have to flah roms, whose are built on the newer bit level to boot up, the best is CrDroid and now the newest ALT-F4 version 0.0.3 from this forum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-oneui-3-1-a40-alt-f4-v0-0-1-updated-2021-12-18.4373813/
I tried it myself and it is the best for this phone, it is fully debloated and pre-rooted stock rom. I also tried CrDroid 8x, everything works for me, but it fells slow and the ram is almost maxed out. I also recommend upgrading to this TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-official-twrp-for-galaxy-a40-a405fn.4025587/
The unofficial twrps had some bugs for me. I hope this helps and happy flashing!
THANK YOU for your comprehensive reply !! I'll give ALT-F4 a try as soon as I can !

Good luck!
Well, luck has not been enough: after updating TWRP to the official version, I tried yesterday to install ALT-F4 0.0.3 but got the exact same result: black screen, need to reflash the stock ROM to make it boot (even to recovery !!) again.
Would you have any other idea ?
EDIT:
I actually tried crDroid in the past, to no avail either.
