Battery life is something that definitely concerns everyone.
Lately we've been seeing a considerable increase in the number of tips, tweaks, and some apps to improve battery life in our nexus phones.
New modded kernels are also starting to pop up since kmobs released his UV one, followed by psyq's and insectRaven's, among others. I've even read comments about having 70% battery power after about 15 hours of use with AVS! Damn, what's your secret you people?
As well as undervolting, AVS, and other kernel-based configs, people are also starting to talk about how each ROM optimizes battery use. Some claim Emmother has better results than CM. Some are just fine with CM.
There have also been several comments about slow charging being better than fast 1A charging.
So, to join all these things together, I've created this post to see how much battery are YOU getting and what's your setup. Hopefully, we can all benefit from the information that's collected here once it gets going.
Please post in a clear and organized manner so we can all get some useful info out of this thread. I encourage you to follow this way of posting your info:
ROM: Whatever ROM you're using.
Kernel: Whatever kernel you're using (please be specific about extra features it may include)
System & software related:Widgets: Any widgets you've got that you think have certain influence on battery life.
Background: Any apps you've got running on background.
Connectivity: 3G signal + strengths or weaknesses / Wifi / Bluetooth.
Sync enabled?: Pretty self explanatory.
GPS & navigation: What software do you use for navigation.
Others: Screen brightness, display % usage, etc..
Battery-related:Battery model: HTC stock, ebay, whatever...
Charging method: What kind of charger are you using?
Extra info: Voltage, temp, and any other info worth providing.
Overall phone use: (Time-wise)
Internet (Browsing): How much time you spend *JUST* on your browser.
Internet (General): IM, VoIP, streaming... Basically any app you frequently use that requires connection.
Calling: Approximate total time per charge.
GPS & navigation: Do you use it frequently? If so, how much.
Games: Which games and for how long do you usually play.
Other: Any apps you may want to point out.
Battery life & impressions:
Here is where the real, but somewhat subjective, talk comes in. Just post what battery life you're getting with the info you've just provided and what are your concerns and impressions regarding this. This is the place to comment in more detail about anything you may have posted above and want to clarify or drive special attention to.

Leave whatever you don't want to post blank, but please be as specific and objective as you can on what you do post. Also, feel free to add any category with info you think is worth it. If you think there's something that I left out and should be there (which is very likely I have) please don't hesitate to tell me and I'll add it as soon as I read it.
I really hope we can all share some info and clear out all the secrets regarding mysterious claims for battery life I've seen around lately. For this to work I urge you once again to post in a clear and organized manner. There's quite a lot of information and it'll be much easier to find, compare, and comment on.
Thanks in advance for your participation.

I'll try and post the best results here once we've got enough impressions.
What happened to this thread???? No one replied?
I think the idea is awesome, however the information you ask might be a bit too detailed. I would rather try to classify uses under "light", "medium" and "heavy" (i.e. light would be just occasional phone and messaging, medium would be more frequent messaging with occasional data/gps/wifi....etc.) That way, someone could easily classify himself along these criteria and we would get a very large database of battery life for each rom and use. I'm sure a lot of people would chime in on this as battery life is very important to all of us.
For me, it's too early to give my opinion as I just got the phone and installed CM, but I am a little bit disappointed at the battery life... I definitely won't be keeping the display brightness on auto...
Hey thanks for replying!
I created this thread because in such a phone, battery life is an issue that we're all concerned about. Now, with so many different ROMs/Kernels to choose from, it's sometimes difficult to know which will suit you the best in these terms.
I never said every category I mentioned had to be answered. They're kind of a guide if you will. Just answer whatever you feel like answering, or make a simple comment if you feel lazy. I don't really care as long as the discussion stays on topic.
I think once we've got some participation this thread will grow exponentially. I just can't believe people don't give a **** about they're $500+ "superphone"'s battery.
ROM: CM 5.0.5.3
Kernel: intersectRavens 33.1 AVS Extra
System & software related:
Widgets: Weather widget donate, Battery Life, Agenda Widget, Audio Manager, Power Control, IP Address
Background: Wallpaper rotator(60 mins), SeePU, SetCPU, AppSwipe, GTalk, Meebo, Google Voice, Gestures, Swype
Connectivity: 2G only for 2 more weeks
Sync enabled?: Yes
GPS & navigation: Motonav about twice a week.
Others: 0% Brightness except in the sun, Display usage ranges from 20% to 60%
Battery-related:
Battery model: ends with M
Charging method: 500mA USB usually
Extra info:
Overall phone use: (Time-wise)
I'm a heavy user. The battery will die in under 4 hours if I use it constantly.
Internet (Browsing):
Internet (General): gmail,gvoice,im, xda, fmylife
Calling: about 30 mins per day.
GPS & navigation: not too much, all of them drain the battery fast.
Games: RoboDefence (level 70 , drains the battery quickly, choppy with power save kernels), AirControl. Whenever theres time to kill
Other: Camera.(tried desire, back on stock now). Shoot anything and everything. Very fast way to empty your battery.
Battery life & impressions:
Have to carry a charger on me whenever I go out for an extended period (5 hrs). Noticed some improvement in standby time with the new AVS kernel.
Waiting to try the release version of CM 5.0.6 or 5.0.7;logs indicate power saving is a priority now.
Since there is many threads about user experience with new phone, its hard to read all of them.
Lets try to ask in this thread, and users who own it to share experience and other informations.
Thread got permission from Diamondback, thank you
Its simply the best Android smartphone I ever had
Great screen, great premium design.
Does it suffer from something?

This is the best Android device I've ever used - and my first
The one irk I have with it is the headphone flap which I use frequently is a bit annoying to use, and the omnibalance design means that whenever I wake up in the morning from the alarm I always spend at least 10 seconds looking at the back thinking it's the front. But the design is useful in the heavy rain we've had in England lately.

8-12 hours of very intensive use
24 hours of intenvise use
48 hours of average use
48-72 hours of "just phone" use
Maximum screen time i got was 5h43m with auto brightness - no matter if playing or watching videos. Talk time is great, more than 15 hours. Idle state drains 1% overnight.
In general fantastic phone, great features. Supporting software great, having the ability to backup whatever you want of the internal and external memory, syncing calendar and contacts to your PC.
Phone software is a little buggy, some very strange behaviours. WIFI can be hit and miss, intitial setup had some quirky defects making the initial setup take a while.
Love the multi coloured LED, have missed this. Screen is amazing and everyone I have showed the phone to, this has been there first comment.
Can connect my Canon DSLR to this phone and control most features of the camera using a USB host adaptor. YEAH Baby, couldn't do this with HTC.
Custom EQ in Walkman app, that sound is superb. My previous beats HTC phone has nothing on this. No decoding artifacts, no hissing, lots of bass with my beats headset.
Nice and fast, any lag I have experienced is the kernel and Linux OS, bring on 3.6, JB4.2.
Screen really sucks that battery fast, reduced the default brightness and obviously it is a little better. Standby is fantastic, way better than any of my HTC phones, as mentioned here over night almost no battery drain, and it is still doing autosync. And I have stamina mode dissabled
There doesn't seem to be a thread for discussing battery life, so here you go.
I've been quite happy with it, lasting 2 days on average before it needs a charge with light to medium use (Messaging, web browsing, email)
Few battery charts: http://imgur.com/a/d0V2F
the priv battery have been good with me, it can last a day full without charge, a heavy use of gaming also can last a day
I've had opposite results with my battery. I get about 6 hours with light to medium use. I've only had it a two days so I'm assuming like all my other androids it's get better after some use and a few recharges.

Theres a few things that also improve battery life significantly, going into developer options and changing transitions to .5 or off completely, and if your in an area that doesnt have GSM or CDMA, you should turn that option off in your network signals.
I think theres a really good post on crackberry for it

Why would animation scale improve battery?
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
From what i've read on numerous forums, the battery level drains a lot faster when subjected to certain task. For example, gaming does not seem to put a huge amount of strain on the device or battery, however general web browsing does.
Same goes for the heating issue - I've yet to actually document what puts the device under strain causing battery life issues.
For me - as a rule, the battery isn't so great. It's better than the Z5 which I sent back, but around 2/3 as good as my Moto X Play. I'd expect the device to be lasting a LOT longer given the battery capacity (near on par with the MXP) however, as mentioned there are certain tasks which seem to drain the battery quicker than others.
I usually get around 3.5-4 hours screen on time a day out of a full charge.

Most of these will make tiny differences that wont really save the battery life enough for an end user to notice. Things such as scaling down animations will help with the performance slightly which, yes, will affect the battery but we're talking 1-2mAh per day.
Yeah I'm noticing pretty stinky battery life on this guy compared to my G4 which is weird because they both have an 808 and the battery is larger on the Priv along with a smaller screen. Really like the phone overall but I'm not at all enthused by having to charge this thing constantly. Plus it's always running hot for me even if I'm only using it to respond to a text message or two. Really not happy to have to return it. Also seems to get laggy for me on Google Chrome which is lame. Very high potential phone I just dont have the time to wait and wait for updates to fix the battery and heat issues.

That's a shame you're going to return it but understandable - I am confident that BB will improve the battery performance over time, but it's just a case of when. The pro's of the phone (power, speed, screen, camera etc) outweigh the need for a good battery life for me.
Keep us posted.
Agreed. I really liked the phone but mine gets hot and laggy and I've got the screen click in the bottom left corner and the back has that strange hollow feeling that seems to be complained about all over Crackberry. It could even just be a t-mobile thing but I don't want to take my chances especially when the phone is so expensive. Fingers crossed that they release an awesome update or skmething for this phone, though. But with just 25 minutes of screen on time (phone on for just one hour total) I've lost nearly 20% battery. Can't figure it out either. Brightness all the way down, Bluetooth and WiFi off, Gmail sync off, WiFi calling disabled, BBM disabled and it still is hot as could be and eating battery. What I would do to have access to wake lock detector!

Truly, after completing all of these battery tips, i didnt even do every one on that list, but changing the sync + radio + animations has DRAMATICALLY increased my battery life, went from half day to full day without charge. Radio definitely seemed to be a HUGE drain when trying to access GSM in my area. animations i cant say made a huge increase but the phone is SO much quicker, felt slow and laggy with it on.
Ok, so I have been running my phone a few days now with the new setup. I am now getting 11 - 12 hours of battery with moderate use. That's about twice what I was getting. So it's now comparable to battery life of other phones I had.
So I have the T-Mobile variant, the SVT100-1. My guess was it was all the bloat ware TMo put on the device that was eating g battery. Here is a list of the apps I disabled, since we will probably not getting root and won't be able to uninstall them.
Lookout (BlackBerry App)
Mobile money(TMo)
TMobile My Account
TMobile TV
Visual Voicemail (TMo)
Yahoo Finance
Blackberry Help
A few of the Google keyboard input languages (these more for space nothing performance)
Over the next few days I will enable each one to see if it effects battery life so I can determine which one is killing battery.

I'm getting around 4-5 hrs of screen on time - around 16 hrs with moderate use. I notice it heats up quite a bit while on chrome.
Hoping the update to marshmallow will help with the advanced standby feature for apps. Wifes s7 edge has crazy battery life and it only has a couple hundred more mAH capacity. Going to try enabling only 4g/3g since it looks like I have weak LTE signal everywhere I go.

Just got my this phone yesterday (used). I traded my iPhone 6 for it and the guy had only had this phone for 3 days but wanted an iPhone. I have noticed that the battery life is ATROCIOUS on this particular unit. I can go from a full charge to 89 percent in under 15 minutes of screen on time. I am not sure if its because I have been on the phone alot downloading my apps, etc but I really hope this is not how the battery is going to be. I also run Android Wear so Bluetooth is always on but the battery just seems horrible compared to my iPhone 6. Anyone else experiencing problems like this? I have basic apps installed, no junk and I have the latest update from AT&T installed.

Did you update "Blackberry" apps found in the Play Store? They may not show under "My apps" but if you search the play store for "blackberry" then you will see the list of apps that need to be updated.
They are updated and I'm still getting sad battery life.
Battery questions
No... you will get it there.. just go to blackberry world & search there. Just try to update your handset & remove all unwanted apps.

Blackberry World is on Blackberry 10 OS, but on Priv it is the PlayStore
I just downloaded the app "Two Dots" and played it for around 30 minutes. In this time, the Priv got REALLY hot and lost more than 20% of battery. This is really disappointing (the app doesn't even use complex graphics). According to GSam Battery Monitor the hourly discharge rate was 50% of the whole battery capacity.
In general the battery drain is very high when I switch between apps or browsing the web. Onscreen time then is between 4 and 5 hours.
I also tried out the game on my old Sony Xperia Z1 Compact which got warm only a bit.
I guess the snapdragon 808 is very inefficient in the Priv.... do you think this is something to be solved via future software updates? I don't really want to get used to this.

I bought it directly via Amazon Germany, therefore I didn't have any carrier apps.
What's your SOT? I noticed that mine is a bit better since the February update.
Hey all,
I have my Prive sine last monday. The model is STV100-4.
The problem with the battery occurs also on my BB. The SOT is max about 4-5 hours, the phone can also get really hot.
But it was a lot worse before I updated every app and OS after unboxing, so I believe it will be fixed, because it is a problem on software's side.

I can't recall off the top of my head - disabling T-mobile fixed it for me. It will make it through most of the day though, lots of use and bluetooth/wifi/gps always on. Plus Google Now, which is a battery killer. All sync etc is on, so I could easily make a full day if I shut that stuff off. As of right now, I'm on 1.5hrs SoT with 78% battery. Before, that'd have me down near 50.
I can't make any recommendations, I'm afraid. If you haven't got any carrier apps maybe check what apps are using the battery in the first place? I noticed when T-Mobile was acting up, it'd hide as "Android OS" and I'd have an even distribution between that and screen. Now, the screen takes up a much more significant percentage of my battery, so if you've got a similar distribution you'll know what's up.
See what your CPU is up to. I know that's what my rogue app was doing, cranking the CPU for no reason. Maybe you've got something similar going on with a different app. Some people have recommended updating/disabling the BB apps. Maybe give that a shot? I disabled some of mine since I don't use them but that didn't yield much (if any) battery changes. Your results may vary.
Seriously, what's wrong with the Z5 compact? the Z3 compact was a longhaul wonder but I had to upgrade, since the back cover piece of "glass" was so fragile, it broke several times without much or any force exposed to it. Exchanging it anyway never got it waterproof again.
But the longer the more updates are coming to the Z5 compact, the less it's battery holds and I only got it since March this year!
I make it barely through the day on one charge with 1h of screen on time max!
As you can see in the attached screenshots today it's down to below 30% at 3 o'clock in the afternoon after disconnecting it from the charger this morning at 8 o'clock and I haven't used it much since... 15 minutes of listening to music, occational web searches and e-mail reading. I'm on the latest official Marshmallow (32.2.A.0.253), no root, no bl unlock, all stock!
what shall I do?
sorry for venting a bit...
cheers
Lyndon
The latest is .305, upgrade, debloat, post results.
Im having similar issues, same version. Checking for updates tells me that my phone is at the latest version
With latest soft . 305 the battery is better than before.
Same here, this phone is melting the battery like butter under the sun.
Impossible to determine which processus is faulty but it wasn't the case some weeks ago.
Update your phone to .305 (flash it completely)
works on my machine
So I factory reset over the weekend, and did not turn device encryption back on (I had it on previously)... and I've noticed hugely improved performance and battery life, and drastically cooler temperatures. On one hand, it could be that the factory reset cleared something that was causing issues; but on the other, device encryption, by definition, requires more CPU cycles, which will heat up a device and cause battery drain and slower performance.
I know that it sucks having to make the trade-off (if device encryption was a contributing factor), but if you have encryption turned on and have problems with the phone getting really hot, performing poorly, or draining battery, consider turning it off.
Perhaps it would be less of an issue with a different processor, but Sony did stick us with the 810, so... lol
Where in the menu is this encryption?
Yep, hard reset cured my z5c too. Something kept it awake and I couldn't find what. It was over 30 proc. battery drain over night, now it's 3 and 3-5 hours screen on time.

It's not turned on by default, so if you didn't turn it on, it's probably not on.
It's under the Security settings. There are buttons to "Encrypt Phone" and "Encrypt SD Card."
Ever since i upgraded to 32.2.a.0.305 which was a mandatory update; my battery drained a lot faster similar to TS. So I have to factory reformat again? I've done this 3x already since I got my phone back in February. I'm so frustrated right now with Android; I don't even know who to blame; google or sony.
My phone was ok before the october updates; the low power mode would kick in and i could see the power graph go more horizontal as time has passed. Now it is a direct slump down from 6pm (full) to 6am (15%) and I was asleep during this time.
reformat? that will take considerable amount of time. I'm a working professional and I have a family with responsibilities. iOS is looking more and more enticing as the days go by as I use this phone.
I was happy that the z5c has a larger battery and can charge 50% faster (with qc 2.0) but it happens to also drains 2x faster.
Even if android is a superior OS than iOS (IMO); it is so very unreliable and unpredictable. I just want to feel relaxed (peace of mind) that my phone will be available when I need it the most. Now every time I go out I have to think about not forgetting to bring a powerbank; so much for a compact android phone. my powerbank + z5c is bigger than the iphone plus.
I've solved the problem, I'm back on Lollipop 5.1.1 with the 32.0.A.4.11-R3B FW.
The difference is really huge whether in terms of battery, reactivity and useful features. Today the phone have used 15% of battery where it would have usually used 45% in the same time on MM.
I'm like Chadie, I don't know who is to blame, Sony or Google, but this MM fw on the Z5C is a shame.

If you think iOS doesn't have problems, you're in for a surprise. lol
Yes, it sucks having to factory reset, but I'm a working professional, too, and I found the time to do it on a Sunday morning. It's worth it. Google can restore most of your settings and apps, you'll just have to manually reconnect Bluetooth devices and set up your home screen again.
I was really shocked with the battery life coming from 4.4.2 on my z1c HEAVILY modded/tweaked was getting 2 day battery life and upto 9hrs screen on time (NINE HOURS!).
But yeah I now got the z5c (r.i.p z1c best phone ever) for 60 quid brand new because my mate didn't want it anymore got iPhone instead lol but since I updated to .305 over the past few days the battery has REALLY improved like it's magically calibrated itself or something and I'm getting comfy 1.5days out of it, I don't know how much screen on time as MM doesn't show you anymore but hey I've noticed a massive improvement.

Download GSam Battery Monitor if you want that functionality back. It'll tell you screen time, as well as all sorts of other usage metrics that impact battery life.

I can confirm that factory reset is unfortunately the best solution.
For my work, i had to update a dozen of Xperia M4 aqua, which is famous for poor memory available ( 8gb version).
So i compared reseted and not reseted available memory after update and can tell you there is a big difference.
That's why i now make my best to convince users to factory reset after update.
An updated system will never be as efficient as a clean installed one.

I know about them; i have both phones but android is my primary one. Better those than having an unreliable charge on my phone.

Just following up... after the reset, the battery life, especially at idle, has been rocking. Here's last night while I was sleeping (note that I do not charge my phones overnight, since it's bad to charge a Li-Ion battery to 100% and I wouldn't be awake to disconnect it before that happened):
This is on build 32.2.A.0.305, and the phone is not rooted (it is completely stock firmware).
Compared to z3c this phone is an epic fail.
