This phone is driving me nuts.... I've been using this device since 2 months now and it is extremely annoying. You just can't play any bloody games that require you to react in a very short time... The taps register very late. For example, It's impossible to use SwiftKey or swipe keyboard because if you swipe too fast it will miss a few letters and predict the wrong word.
Any custom ROMs or kernels that may fix this? Sd835 is useless if I just have to play tic tac toe..
Android P fixes it entirely, that was a huge issue I had with the phone as well. I don't notice any lag at all now.

Hey sir thanks again for helping me with my rebooting issues... Essential checked the logs and I'm sending in under warranty. It did get better with your tips though . on this note, why does P still not have an option to reboot into the other sides partition? It would make restoring much simpler because you could do it without a computer. Is there a wat to reboot into the other partition without one?

Anytime!
Glad I could help to some degree.
I'm not sure any phone with an A/B partition has that option, unless I'm mistaken. That is really there for system use only, not for those looking to tinker.
I have the ph-1 since one week and I have the exact same problem. Swiftkey or Gboard with swipe gesture typing is absolutly impossible to use with this phone! It drives me crazy since 90% what I do with a phone is writing text messages in Whatsapp. I am using Swiftkey since my Galaxy S2 and I had a couple of low class phones since then. None had this problem. I cannot confirm Android P fixes it. Any other ideas/fixes/custom roms that address this issue?
Same problem here. This phone drives me crazy -.- i can't use swiftkey and swift.
Here a touch screen test. Left screenshot is the essential phone, right one is my xiaomi redmi note 4.
And what happens if i try to write "this is a test" three times.

could you download the "touch screen test" app and post a screenshot, how it looks like on your phone?
Would be great, thanks!
As requested
I contacted essential supported they told me following:
There are a couple of settings available to fine tune how the screen responds to touches (and scrolling) that you can customize for your own preferences and might have an impact on what you have noticed when using swipe gestures on the keyboard. These are in Developer Options in Settings. If you haven't enabled this menu, these instructions will make it available:
In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap on the System menu.
In the System menu, tap About phone.
Scroll down until you see "Build number" at the bottom of the menu.
Tap the "Build number" 8 times in a row.
After 8 consecutive taps, a message will pop up alerting you that Developer Options has been enabled.
Developer Options can now be found in Settings > System
Once we've enabled Developer options, I would suggest disabling "Grip Rejection" and testing to confirm if that helps with the touch responsiveness issues that you are noticing. Also in this menu, you will find the option for "Touch Sensitivity", if you are noticing issues when scrolling, you can experiment with other values to see what works best for you. The higher the number, the screen will be more sensitive to touch but you could notice more "jitter" when scrolling.
Also, if you are using a screen protector (or left the protective plastic on the device), it can impact how the device responds to touch, so I would recommend removing it and re-testing if none of these settings result in an improvement.
Because Android 9 Pie has just been released, it is also possible that specific apps haven't been optimized for this OS, so I would also recommend reaching out to the developer to provide the feedback that you have noticed in case some improvements can be made in a future update.

Anyone got this super irritating problem where u try to touch the screen to activate a button or swipe, but only a green line appears and what u want is not done?
Input was set to TP, but trying to hit the buttons to switch between text and numeric (the top bar) results in it.
Not sure why.....anybody have any idea?

I assume you're using Swype?
If so, you should really be asking those guys the question. It looks like a bug with their software.

Nope....swype has been banished from the phone. Unless it leave remnants behind?
Besides, it isn't active, how can it cause such a problem?
It doesn't just happen at the keyboard area....it happens all over the phone/screen. Even in the Sense interface until a reset makes it go away. It comes back randomly, pretty rare, but it's still irritating.

Okay - I just assumed that because you mentioned swiping and I don't recognise the keyboard.
So you're saying that you can sometimes draw green lines over the Sense UI with your finger? If so, it's definitely a piece of software you've installed, as that's never been seen before and I'm pretty sure it would have been picked up by now.
What did you install last before this started happening? And how often does it happen?
No problem.
I guess as much, but I can't really figure out what is the problematic app. Swype would be my guess, but it has already been uninstalled.
It actually came up a few weeks ago, that was when Swype was still present. But after a reset it went away. Now I have uninstalled Swype and replaced with TP4, and it came back right during a MSN conversation.... You can imagine my frustration in having a conversation when I couldn't swipe and press buttons properly.
Just trying my luck to see if anyone has encountered similar problems.
Finally found someone with the same problem..anyone else?

Trying to find out the culprit app/cab so that it can be gone FOREVER.
OK...it definitely has something to do with the handwriting input. Appeared after a hard reset with no apps/cabs installed.
Hard to replicate, soft reset will make it go away until it decides to rear it's head again. Very infrequently I might add....another point to chalk up to HD2's list of bugs again.

is there anyway to get rid of the lockscreen in 3.1 so when you wake the tablet you are on the last screen you saw. i can disable it on my phone with cm7 2.3.4 rom, and had apps that work with 2.2 or 2.3 but i can't find anything to work with 3.1. i know it doesn't take long to unlock it, it just bugs me that i have to everytime i wake it
No Lock worked perfectly when unrooted on 3.0.1 and continues to work with 3.1 rooted. I never lock the screen on my A500 since it does not fit in my pocket.
I tried to post a link but I am no allowed to yet. Just search the Market for "no lock" including the quotes.
You need to have a special feature called fingertouch
- Try to find the application FINGER on the hand.market.google.com
- Install It or Find a friend who have it already
Now you should see on your Real Life Desktop this

Looks strange no ?
Ok now get ready for the most hard part, require at least a doctor degree in information and technology
Your tablet should be locked as following.
Use your new feature TOUCH (it's installed with FINGER by default don't worry) on the screen of your tablet like that
then when your tablet is unlocked, you should be on this screen (may differ of yours but it's ok don't worry)
Now use TOUCH again on the top right of the screen (there is a kind of 6 square, 1 is one other are grey, and a text on the right side "Apps")
Now you are on this screen, you can slide from left to right or right to left, you need to find the SETTINGS icon, then use TOUCH again (I know you may hurt FINGER but after you will use to)
Then now use TOUCH on the text "Location & Security"
Use TOUCH again on Configure Lock Screen
And Finally use TOUCH on Off (never lock the screen)
and Here we are you just figured how to not install junk application and save time
have a nice day.
sanaell said:

then...
with your FINGER touch the screen, where it's write APPS (top right)
then SLIDE from right to left, until see an ICON named SETTINGS
Use again your FINGER to touch the TEXT "LOCATION & SECURITY"
Now that going to be tricky but you can do it, use your FINGER on CONFIGURE LOCK SCREEN
and press very very very very carrefully on "OFF"
I know it's kind of hard and very advance, but with this method you are sure about two thing....
your screen will turn off but will not be locked when you turn it on
you will save space by not installing junk application

There was no need to sugar-coat your response. That is a good tip. Thank you for presenting it so eloquently.
Since that option is not available on my Froyo phone, I did not even go into the lock screen menu on Honeycomb because I did not want to set a password or pattern. I should have done more exploring.
No Lock uninstalled on my A500 but still necessary on my phone.
Could you please provide a Market link to the "FINGER TOUCH" app that you mentioned? I am unable to locate it. My insatiable girlfriend has expressed extreme (and urgent) interest in it.

Hi guys!
I'm currently using the 34.0.A.1.264 firmware on Xperia X and some of the keypresses are recognized as a straight swipe line when typing fast and thus Swiftkey keeps assuming wrong words. I was wondering if any of you guys already have the latest firmware versions to double check this (277 and 283).
You can easily check this behaviour by entering *#*#SERVICE#*#* on your dialer, choose Service Tests, then Touch, then Free Drawing test and then pretending you're typing (both thumbs) at high speed.
Hi
I´m currently using 34.0.A.1.277 and have the same issue...
maybe there came an update with or we all gave back our X...

Think this is a SW problem which happens only when one types really really fast (which I normally don't do). Tested it on a sample I found in some gadget store (with FW 34.0.A.1.264) and confirm....

Interesting that Sony has pre-installed Swiftkey instead of their own keyboard. Anyhow...
EDIT:
As a temporary fix you can install the regular Xperia International Keyboard and turn swiping off. Not sure, maybe Swiftkey has that option too.
But I type really really fast that's why I was wondering whether someone with the 277 or 283 firmwares have this issue so I would bother unlocking bootloader + installing latest firmware.
Regular Xperia international keyboard... hummm, haven't tried it on these Marshmallow devices. Swiftkey's only other option for swiping is even worse (deleting / accepting words).

Well, .277 has reportedly the same issue. However, why would you want to unlock your BL for installing latest FW only? That's not required at all.

The regular Xperia international keyboard is not so regular in fact, it has many options. It works pretty well and I actually prefer it over SwiftKey, but that's up to everyone's preference.
You can turn swipe off on SwiftKey anyway. Its called flow
I would unlock the BL just for the simple fact that I wouldn't be doing an extra factory reset later on.
I'm now trying the Xperia International keyboard but I've always hated how the bottom row of characters is narrow.
And no, Swiftkey doesn't allow you to turn off swipe. You can only choose between two swipe options.
Apologies, yes you can't turn it off. But Using Gestures only applies to deleting words. Haven't had any issues in that mode.

You'll be even worse with Gestures just because you'll be deleting and accepting incomplete words. With Flow, at least *some* words get OK when this happens. And, of course, you can use Flow itself to type (even though it will never be my first option) and the issue doesn't get visible.
I have just uninstalled Xperia International Keyboard: With swipe off, when the issue happens, only the last letter on the "fake swipe" action gets recognized thus leading to bad predictions as well, and Swiftkey is simply the most amazing keyboard ever.
So, back to square one...

So sad that it is still appearing in Xperia X.

Tried latest firmware and nothing is different and the keyboard issue is still occurring. I have a bad feeling this is not gonna be fixed but we can always hope.
hmm, I haven't gotten the update yet, checked on phone and from xperia companion, mine is F5122.
I had this issue on my F5121 which I got 6 days ago. I noticed in the service menu touch test feature that not all inputs were recognized and some were at wrong position and/or delayed. I DOA:ed it today, got a new one at the retailer and it has the same issue... Is this a software or a hardware issue? I should probably DOA this one as well, as it also is scrolling by itself and clicking on stuff in my Facebook feed (from time to time).

While I'm glad that Samsung has decided by themselves that my games need to run in fullscreen, I have text and buttons scrolling off the screen I can barely get to, or can't read at all because of this. How do I disable this and get my games back? When I go into the display settings, the apps are greyed out and do not give me an option to shut this off.

Hey there,
Another way to disable fullscreen is to press the all apps button in the nav bar and then that small black button you can see in the screenshot. That disable fullscreen for me. But keep in mind that there are apps that automatically change to fullscreen because they are optimized for that.
Hppe that helped you out.
Which games do you mean especially?
Then i could try it myself

Sorry, I tried to attach a screenshot last night and I don't know why it didn't work. I shall try again here, but when I choose the All Apps sort, I have no black button anywhere except the bottom left of the screen which hides the navigation bar from the settings screen, but does nothing for my games. Also, yes, as you mentioned, this is one of those games that Samsung wants to say is "optimized" and disables the option for me to turn it off. Been playing this game for about a year(?) and this did not happen until about a week ago. WWE Champions is the name. You can see the titles in each section being cropped off and you kind of make out a button to the right of "Expedition", or "Xpedition" on my screen that is almost completely hidden.

Ok i have the same pronlem with the game.
I forgot to attach the screenshot in my first response.
I'll attach it now that you know what i actually meant.
You could try to contact the support and tell them the game is not correvtly sized.
If you are rooted you can try to edit your screen resolution so that the game could(don't know if that would even works)
Sorry i couldn't help more
I appreciate the help, but, yeah, I have had complaints about Samsung's Game Tools ever since I've owned this phone and this will likely be my last Samsung phone if I can help it. Was so much happier with my old Nexus 6P stock Android.
Hey, I have the exact same problem.
I've updated to Android 9 with my S9+ Yesterday and then I found out that the WWE SuperCard game is stretched because of this problem. The system thinks it's optimized for the screen but it isn't.
Is there any solution for this problem?
Android 9 sucks! Trash ! Rubbish !
Prefer 8.1 Oreo
I think it primarily turned out to be a developer issue. Their code was causing it to look bad until they patched it. I gave up on the game eventually, but I also ditched my S8+. Went with the Pixel 3 XL and couldn't be happier.
So, did it get solved??
I have the same problem with WOT Blitz. I cannot play the game anymore. Since updating to Android 9, the system says the game is optimised for full screen, which it is not, so I cannot see the entire screen and buttons moved to the side. Did anyone find a solution in the end?
Like I just mentioned before, it's very likely a developer issue versus the phone. They will likely have to release a patch, but I just got tired of dealing with it. Have had zero problems with the Pixel 3 XL and never going back to Samsung.
Yes!!! Away with spamsung from the earth!!!
Spammy should be banne, ssued and shut down by now!!!

I am checking my claims(on my own phone lol)
Noice I did feel it being faster
got one ui 2.1 update in Pakistan...fingerprint feels hella fast than before....firmware is off course availabile on sam mobile...try it out...definitely u ll feel difference in fingerprint
What i did:
i recorded one finger a bit over 50%, then i use the same finger of the other hand to fill it up to 100%.
This procedure i repeated twice for another two fingers.
It doesn´t make it that faster, but it´s much more comfortable, because i can use 6 instead of 3 fingers.
The problem is that 8 out of 10 times it says "no match".

It only needs to match ONCE. Why would anyone keep trying once it matched?

Are you using glass screen protector?
it works and in the one ui 2.5 it is already preset not optimized, so samsung understood why the unlocking of the device was slow and they solved this problem.
anyway thanks for the guide
