My A1 is suddenly showing app 5mm wide black bars left and right in portrait mode or on top and bottom in landscape mode. It seems the screen resolution is changed to something like 1920x950...
I tried reboot, change of launcher but it does not affect it. When booting up the bars appear maybe 7sec before the boot is finished.
I am using the original ROM with April update, and Magisk
Any idea?
Magisk mod ?
What is Magisk mod? Just normal Magisk, disabling all modules did not help

Mod is short for module
Well you look alone on this bug so let's imagine it's something you did like changing dpi screen size font etc
Try to find what is the culprit by checking all your app that could do something with screen
Can be a simple app to add rounded corner or facebook messenger. I'm not telling those one cause this problem and I'm not saying you are using them but app like that could cause problem
As you said you can see it's happening after boot so it's something that an app or a modification you did do
If really you don't find the problem factory reset phone though settings
But if an app you use was the culprit then you'll see the big again
Solved!
As I was not able to identify the application causing the problem, and also no malware was found I looked into an application to reset the display size.
SCREEN SHIFT solved the problem just by installing and starting the app.

Hello all.
I've switched my build.prop density from the default (480?) to 320. It's soo much nicer being able to see more on screen at once. An irritating side effect though is (unlike with other ROMs) the lock screen pattern is teeny tiny now and also the view when the S-Cover is closed isn't centered.
I could revert my density change but I'd rather fix this on a per app basis. Has anyone tried the Xposed framework out to achieve this? On other ROMs or on an S4?
Thanks.
How does other apps scale? Dialer, contacts, clock, side bar.

Dialer also looks gash. I've worked around that using Swipe Dialer https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tYi5zd2lwZWRpYWwiXQ..

Great news: I have an answer. NO. Do NOT use this yet. I installed a rebooted and am in a bootloop, unable to adb shell or disable file verification in my stock recovery. In short, I've soft bricked the thing and have no way of fixing yet.
Any one have any ideas?
flash Xposed-Disabler-CWM.zip
If got bootloop after Xposed
After using the phone for a while a strange problem occurs. The widgets turn black but if you tap on them, they work. Just on home screen they look black.
If you enter to the Apps menu and try to edit any page (try to move an icon for ex) there is going to be a distortion at the background like color changing or instead of the background,
there will be a stretched icon of an application.
I have attached some screenshots for you to see.
Also a temporary solution to this problem that i found is to restart TouchWiz with an application i found on Play Store.
The name of the app is TouchWiz Killer.
Is there a permanent solution to this annoying problem that anyone has found?

What launcher are you using? Also, can you post a screenshot?

Try holding down on the icons and moving them. If you can, remove them from the screen and re add them. If not, try disabling any xposed modules (if you have any that could effect the home screen) and look at it again. I don't personally use the touchwiz launcher and this never happened to me, so these are just guesses. Also, I noticed you have a strange colored Google app in your bottom bar. Did you do anything to the icon, and if so did you possibly break other icons while doing it?

I did factory reset my phone and still see these , is there any software to fix that or this is a hardware issue .
is this called a burn-in issue or it is called some thing else .
thanks for replying .
Are those applications actually there software wise? If not, then it would be a burn-in, where the screen has the images "burned in" and can't be removed. If they are there you could try flashing a stock tar using Odin for whatever build you want.

yes , they are software wise and if you look very good in the pic you can notice the whatsapp shadow on the screen , also I had flashed the stock.tar odin rom many times and they are still there , if this case is a burn-in issue what software would you suggest to fix because I tried all the softwares on the playstore and they didn't help .
thanks

The only other thing I can suggest is to take your phone to Verizon and see what they can do. They might have to replace it.
having same issue in MotoG3
I got this phone(MotoG3) 15 days back, it worked fine for a few days and suddenly I noticed that a "Whats app Shadow" is coming on my home-screen, it was hardly noticeable at first but then it became darker and darker, I replaced the phone thinking it might be a software issue, and got the same handset today itself, it worked fine but again as I installed whats app the same shadow problem appeared, I uninstalled it and it started to work properly. Am not sure where is the problem, so please help me out.
About the shadow issue:
The home screen of whats app appears in my wallpaper and also above all the other apps, a transparent shadow kinda thingy, I hope you people got what am trying to say.
Thank You
I also have the same issue on my redmi note 8 but in my phone i doesn't shows the shadow of the icon but but the shadow off appa inside when I use anh app
I have the same issue on my Pixel; the shadow apps aren't directly on my home screen, but when apps are opened. Perhaps due to Google system.
I've looked around but couldn't find anything. I've noticed that when I change my DPI in the build.prop the Google Search bar is gone from the top of the recent app list. I've changed my DPI on every device I've owned, and this is the first time I've noticed this issue.
I've also noticed that once in a while it does appear, but I don't exactly know what's triggering it, and it will disappear the next time I go to the recents menu.
I'm most comfortable at 500 right now. I've tried 520, 480, and 420 (what the N5X is at). Everyone of them seems to have this issue. I really can't stand keeping it at 560.
I did something in the build prop relating to trying to activate multiwindow using "persist.sys.debug.multi_window=true*" but I don't have root. Ever since, my search bar in recents has disappeared.
NOTE: I've tried to reboot into safe mode but things always return back to being abnormal after. I need help or suggestions.
I fixed my problem just by force stopping Google now launcher
Same problem here with a nexus 5x. I've tried reboot to safe mode, clear cache, force stopping google now launcher but nothing happened. This problem is driving me crazy!
I haven't had a search bar in my recents since I got the phone (although I unlocked BL, flashed it to MDB08M and systemless rooted as soon as I got it), haven't found a solution. Any ideas?
Incompatible app
The search bar disappears due to an incompatible app, especially apps which creates widget's. In my case its yatse app causing the search bar to disappear. Identify the app uninstall and reboot.
Turn on Auto-rotate and load some apps in recent apps.Open recent apps.
Now switch to landscape mode and then back again to portrait mode.
Hi- this screen never appeared before and now it does -.- tried wiping factory resetting and this image wont go away from my homescreen. Idk what happened please help looked everywhere of how to remove this but no one has had this issue. This never appeared on stock until after i unlocked my bootloader and installed cm. Tried to use the repair assistant and its still there.
edit: idk why it does not show in my screenshots. here are some photos taken from my iphone... hard to show but there is a white line that is in the background of my homescreen. Shows an sms icon slightly transparent. Annoying **** to look at when I take pics on snapchat. As you can in google playstore and the snapchat photo a SMS icon appears behind the mic in play store and under the switch to facecam icon in snapchat. Does anyone know a fix??
I still have no idea what you are talking about.

lol. ok before on my screen it will be normal fine no graphical errors no visual glitches. pictures wont show it for some reason but if you had my phone in my hand it would show up as SMS icon at the top of my screen like right below the navi bar. Shows up in camera and on my snapchat. Never happened till now. Idk if my screen got messed up or if its the constant switching of roms etc that gave me that glitch. its like a white line that separates the navibar and the rest of the screen at the bottom shows a menu bar on the left corner and some icons. its very transparent under the homescreen display like if the stock rom overlapped
like it shows a small phone screen is under the home screen. in the background- get me?
It's screen burn in. It happens with amoled screens if they are left on a static image too long. You can try some burn in fix tools in the play store. That's why you don't see it in your screen shots it's a hardware problem.
