Fire OS 5.6.1.0 - Fire General

My 5th Gen updated to FireOS 5.6.1.0 just before 4 hours!
One of the of the amazing thing is that it bypassed the firewall of NoRootFirewall!
I am glad that Play Store is working!
I can't find changes except improvements in keyboard!
There is now new light theme!I
Edit: Found that you now not need to enter ADB Codes to add widgets on Home Screen (Tested on Nova).
As always ROOT failed!

FireOS isn't that tricky; your "firewall" is misconfigured or ineffective.

No! If my firewall was misconfigured or ineffective then all the Amazon Apps which I have downgraded should have been updated with the 5.6.1 update! And they are still on the same version!

Okie dokie. There's obvious misalignment between claims and outcomes. I'll let you sort/sweat the details. Primary OTA updates operate the same way in the past three generations of FireOS (v3-v5).

I have 5.6.1.0 on and HD8 6th gen. I can't find a way to enable ADB debugging. The three taps on the serial number don't work. Any apk that will enable ADB debug or Developer options for me? The ones I found open the Developer Options menu but it is empty.

You need to enable developer options. 7 (not 3) taps on the serial number should do it.

@Davey126, Tapping seven times on the serial number did absolutely nothing. It's usually 7 times on the build number, but that's not shiwn anywhere

Could be Amazon disabled that capability in recent builds of FireOS. Unfortunately, I don't have a 5.4/5.6 equipped device at my disposal to do further testing (and thus probably should not have commented!). Might want to do a bit of Googling to see what shows up. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Well, as in my case I had already enabled developer options and can easily access from settings > developer options!
May be try this if this works:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.selfip.unet.developer_options
Or you can also use Activity Launcher.

Is there any chance this os is rootable? It's not in the Google sheet, but I'd really like to get a rom on this tablet in the hopes of speeding it up. It's so slow it can't actually keep up with me as I type.

No root. Some devices can be rolled back to FireOS 5.4.0.0; from there you can disable some pre-installed apps which should improve responsiveness. Be aware it is a one way street; once an app is disabled via script it can not be re-enabled without resetting the device which restores everything...along with tossing your personal apps/data.
You might try a factory reset without rolling back; that often improves responsiveness but clearing caches and flushing crud. Also consider your app portfolio; anything that auto-starts and/or runs in the background is going to be problematic on this underpowered device. Social apps are some of the biggest offenders. Amazon's own apps are the biggest culprits as most/all autostart and can't be easily disabled.

Could you give a quick overview of how/what you blocked. I know we can't remove the Amazon-related background processes/apps but I'd love to be able to block some of them if possible.

well I found out it is not fully solved but it occurs less. To block a system app you need adb and drivers set up on your computer. Type: "adb shell" and then look through the processes on your device and it gives the package name. such as com.google.whatever. to block type:"pm block com.google.whatever".

Cheers. Got it. I'm in the shell unblocking the default launcher after the 4.5.2 update anyway. For whatever reason it won't start Nova immediately after an update so I have to unblock/reinstall Nova/block to get it back working again. Thanks again.
The update seems to have helped. will need to test the keyboard again

Not sure this goes along with the rules on XDA and security in general. There is a reason you no longer have access to a device. We can't and should not take the risk and guess what that reason might be. At all times we should assume an unauthorized access attempt. Especially in this case. Reported (under reserve).
A genious o.o
would have been helpful when i got my new phone, cleaned google account, changed pw, factory reset phone. 72 hour lock!
but.... yeah. much more helpful for phone theft than regular users.
Shortcut to Settings
First, thanks to vn_mobile for sharing.
Second, here's a quicker way
Install Quick Shortcut by OTG as per the OP
Then search for "reset"
Select Settings, MasterClearActivity, Try
Reset Phone
Done!!
Great, I now can make a list of XDA members I know are morons. Let's hope they also have social media info in their profiles.

Maybe because this Exploit has been fixed and Google won`t let you bypass the FRP like that forever. It never worked on ALL devices.
this just happened to me on my htc m9. i changed my password sunday. reset my device and im like WTF? im done with google, this feature should be duely noted to consumers and in the literature. im taking my paperweight m9 back to tmobile and getting an iphone. i don't mind security but this is too much.

Unknown Sources Doesn't Stay Enabled Permanently

I sideload a lot of apps, and an annoying kwirk that I've found is that unknown sources does not stay enabled permanently. Everytime I attempt to install an app from unknown sources, I have to hop into settings and recheck unknown sources.
Yes, I do uncheck "this install only"

Same. Stays for a few minutes, then goes back to off. I wonder if it's another one of Samsung's "features."

I think it's a definitely a big, because there is an option to uncheck "for this install only", however even if you do, it still reverts it back. So definitely a bug.
Yes it's annoying... But today when I try to sideload a app.. It prompt to enable unknown sources and takes to settings menu, here don't check the box rather click the Unknown sources it will prompt you a usual warning and below warning there is a check box as 'allow this instalation only' un check it and click ok...
It will stay forever
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Actually, it seems to stay for a set period of time, possibly until the phone is locked, or about 10 minutes, not 100% sure, but I sideloaded about 40 humblebundle apps over the course of 2 hours yesterday, and that dialog came back between every sideloading session. I could do several at a time, but when i locked, and went off to do other things, returning to sideload more would result in the same dialog again. Checking the box made the dialog appear every time i tried to sideload. This doesn't appear to be a bug, it appears to be a security feature that has no option for removal.
I've got a bunch of packages frozen with Package Disabler Pro and my unknown sources is sticking. Verizon, US model.
I pulled the XML file in that thread and it freezes all kinds of Sammy bloat, including Knox, so one or a combination is flipping that back.
I'm taking updates as they come.

Noticed some settings in developer options not sticking either. Just took latest VZW update so maybe that'll fix it!
Try to uninstall Samsung Pay and the framework. I did it on my S7 Edge and it fixes this problem.
Hence, I opt not to use S.Pay.

Possible new way of disabling ads on lockscreen found

So in the Fire HD 8 / 10 forums there is a thread about a hidden debug menu which can be opened by typing into the universal search bar. Type in ";dx" without quotes!
It worked on my Fire HD 7, 5th gen (2015). There is a entry called "Settings (com.amazon.device.settings)". Click that entry, then search for the entry "com.amazon.kindle.kso". Click that. Now, from what I think, the setting called "dcs_url" is probably for getting the ads from the Amazon servers. If anyone wanna try that, click "Delete" and maybe disable RSM, because it says on the top, when enabled, it restores settings after 24 hours.
Tell me if it worked!
I know it's technically an old post now, but I gave it a shot. The only results I get when putting the ;dx into the search bar are as follows:
CrashManager (com.amazon.device.crashmanager)
Log Manager (com.amazon.device.logmanager)
Todo Queue (com.amazon.device.messaging)
Nothing at all about "Settings".
I should also note that mine is a 6th Generation Fire HD 8" running 5.6.1.0

Samsung tab a 10.5" sm-t597p help

I have a Samsung tab a 10.5 sm-t597p and well I can't find much about it anywhere really. My problem is I bought it not knowing it was Google locked. I've been able to flash firmware to it, successfully I might add. but it still remains locked. I've tried creating a combination file but always missing s.boot file when I extract then. It's binary 5 which also doesn't help when looking for combination file. I can't get it to recognize adb or fastboot. I think mainly from not being able to enable USB debugging. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

How can they enable dev mode when they can't get past the Google lock? As far as I know, the only way to bypass the FRP lock is to use a paid service, or, if you have legit proof of purchase, to send it in to Samsung tech support to have them remove it.

No, I've never tried one. The only time this happened to me, Samsung tech support unlocked it for me under warranty. If you look on eBay searching for "unlock FRP", there are several for less than $10 that claim a lot of sales and still have high rankings, but I can't guaranty they work. If you try one, let us know the result.
I bought the 4 u key program for Android, sad to say it did not work. Allows me to get past into the settings but then I can't actually access anything once I'm there. It can't connect by ADB and fastboot. It allows me to successfully flash on Odin but every time I go back into it the lock still there. I'm no computer wiz but at the same time I'm not a dumbass. For whatever reason it just won't clear or let me around. Is there any way to disable Google Play services if I can't get into the tablet or the settings because when I get into the settings it won't let me access the apps and when I factory reset from the settings it still has FRP in place.
