Hi, i have some questions about my I9500, currently running stock Android 4.2.2 with the possibility of upgrading it to 4.3 via OTA. No Root.
1) I would like to sim unlock it, so i read lots of threads and i am really confused right now. If I try the method in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683 i get the following error, 'MENU NOT EXIST Current Command is 111'. I think that thats because i have an upgraded version of the modem so what should i do?
2)I am planning to root my phone but i would like to upgrade my phone to 4.3, so what about Knox and root counters and all that stuff? Every thread about this is related to the I9505 variant.
I am really a noob
Thank you!!
Anyone???
Any Luck
I have the same problem Gt-9500 region locked and UMTS Limited so apparently service model unlock method doesn't work for me, the phone is korea manufactured bought in Colombia, any luck with rooting the phone and using the region unlock apk?? Help needed desperately
Having the same problem with I9500 from Argentina. I was able to root, install TWRP, remove Knox, but not sim unlock.
Probably using a custom rom will unlock the sim. I've done this in the past with Movistar Samsung Tab2 GT-5100 and GT-3100. But for my s4 I prefer keeping default rom (for the moment).
Hello all. I just got a new Galaxy S4 (i337m) and I hate the stock firmware on it. I want to install something custom, however the custom roms require a certain bootloader that I do not have. I have searched for if / how I can change my bootloader but none of the forum posts I have found seem to be related to my specific phone so I'm posting this to find out about my specific phone. I believe it is a locked Fido phone. I used the ADB shell to check the bootloader version and it is not the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader I need to have for the roms Im interested in. Mine was something like CUVL. I can verify later when I get home. However, can I change my bootloader? If so, are there any instructions for this specific phone? My goal for this phone is a light weight / vanilla version of 5.1.1 Lollipop, rooted. Thanks.
If it's an actual i337m the bootloader is already unlocked... I'm a bit rusty though. I've moved on to a G4, and dumped most of my S4 knowledge with it.

How can I tell if it is unlocked? If it is unlocked, does that mean I can install a different bootloader?
Hi there, so I recently made the switch over from Apple to Android (yay ), and I found out about rooting. However, when looking for a root for the SM-G928G (which is my model number), I was unable to find one. So I need some help, how do I root this specific model of the Galaxy S6 Edge+?
Thanks!
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Model Number: SM-G928G
Android Version: 5.1.1
If you need any more information, just let me know (I'm not sure what information is important and which information is not)
I made a tutorial in spanish for that model G928G here:
http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=1080798
Follow that steps are you will get rooted without issues.

I have Samsung Galaxy s4
Model is i9500
But when I go to download mode, I see modem number to sch-i545, which is from Verizon. I want to root my phone and also want to download stock rom or flash custom rom but I don't know which rom to download because I'm confused of which model is correct. My phone has 4G LTE and CDMA. I know i9500 does not support 4G LTE but the model number is i9500 and baseband I9500UBUHOE1. Hope someone cam help me out. Thank you
The correct model # can be found in download mode; therefore, your phone is a Verizon phone with a locked bootloader.

How can I unlock?
Can't be unlocked as far as I know.
Here's a thread about unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500826
I want to root and install custom rom, you have thread for that?
You may be able to root but no custom Roms based on cm or aosp.
More information about your device is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon . In short, unless your device has an early bootloader that would allow modification, there is no way to unlock the bootloader, no way to install a custom ROM, and no way to even root the device.
Return this device and get something else.
could this phone have a locked bootloader AND still have other firmware trying to disguise it at the same time ?
No. It's likely his bootloader is unlocked, but he needs to head to the Verizon S4 forums to be sure. But when it comes to frankenphones, my instant response is to return the phone if possible. Frankenphones are a PITA to deal with.

agreed on that, if nothing else it's deception by the vendor/seller
I have an SM-G900I. I rotted this device a few weeks ago by using CF Auto Root. I want to install a custom ROM. I can't understand exactly what you need to do though. I read in some places that you need to unlock your bootloader for TWRP, but another website said I do not. So what's the difference between root, and unlocked bootloader? What exactly is TWRP and how does it let you install a custom ROM? I was thinking of installing Ressurection Remix Pie. Will this work with my phone?

I don't have this variant but, the following thread is what I had used to Unlock the Bootloader on both of my Galaxy S5 devices.

Regarding your other questions...
There's 2 different types of Unlocking that can easily be confused.
1) Carrier Unlocking (aka SIM Unlocking) = This unlocks the devices restrictions to a single carrier.
2) Bootloader Unlocking = Unlocks the restriction within the devices Bootloader that prevents it from rejecting Custom Recovery and Custom Firmware from being installed on the device.
TWRP is a Custom Recovery that is a simple software that loads before the Firmware. For example, the TWRP Software is kinda like the BIOS Software on a PC/Laptop whereas the BIOS loads before the Software on the Hard Drive.
Rooting a device only allows the ability to Read/Write/Modify certain areas within the currently installed firmware that are otherwise Read only.
There's much more to it that would take small book to explain it but, this is a very condensed explanation.
