LG G6 USB issue - LG G6 Questions and Answers

So my phone will charge fine but only in "slow" charge.
I am unable to connect usb to laptop etc.
It only charges.
ADB, fastboot, MTP, Fast Charge doesn't work anymore.
All drivers installed fine, tested 4 cables, debbuging is on (tried off too)
I flashed stock ROM same issue, flashed fulmics same problem.
I did have the usb plug replaced by LG as it made my phone go crazy on/off charge every second until I unplugged it.
Any other suggestions?

I had this happen just yesterday and my problem was a buildup of lint in the usb port which prevented the cable from being fully inserted. The connection was good enough to charge (sometimes slow charging only) but usb communications just didn't work. I used compressed air and the pointy end of a small zip tie to clean it out.

Keeps charging when there is no USB cable plugged it

Here is a head scratcher....
I have a Samsung Fascinate from Verizon, and just recently updated to the new 2.2, I now have no usb functions at all. Tried several times to install/reinstall/turn off/turn on pc, phone, etc to no avail... all I get now is USB is not recognized
here is the weird part,
when I unplug the USB from the phone it keeps charging.... is it really charging because it shows it is!!
try toggling USB debugging. It's under settings>applications>development.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest uninstalling your Samsung drivers, reboot PC, reinstall drivers and see if your phone is recognized.
If that doesn't work and you can get your hands on another set of Samsung cables, try that out, as that happened to be my problem a few weeks ago.
I had this happen a while back. The PC would not recognize the phone at all, driver replacement didn't help, odin wouldn't recognize it either. I also experienced the charging indicator remaining on after the phone was unplugged. Remained this way for a couple of weeks. I tried multiple cables, ports, and computers.
It sounds screwy, but the only cause I could find was a dirty connector/cable. One evening, I cleaned out the cable connector and port on the phone with a piece of paper dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Following this action, the usb connected for the first time in two weeks, but not every time. Multiple cleanings were required and eventually the usb connection became reliable again. I haven't experienced the problem since.
Can't explain it but there it is. YMMV.

same here, dropped phone over winter, salt prob got into the connector where it charges. battery meter would change wildly and wouldnt connect to usb. Cleaned usb port with a little iso alcohol and a thick piece of paper and it was perfect.
Mine did the same thing. It would and would not charge. Then it would keep charging after unplugging. I took it to Verizon and they gave me a new phone. No questions asked.

This sounds like the perfect solution to people who have been complaining of terrible battery life!

Sry, if your saying your still stock then what are you installing reinstalling? If you don't wish to deviate from stock then taking it back for replacement might be your only option as it may be physical.

[Q] AC charging grinds phone to halt and prevents charging

I'm running:
GEN2
Rooted
ClockworkMod
Swedish Spring Android 2.2 with Gingerbread theme and circle battery
Suddenly after a few weeks of everything working fine, AC charging stopped working. USB charging still works perfectly, and when I plug the phone in it says it is AC charging, but the charge level barely changes - it can be plugged in for 12 hours and not gain or lose any charge. Also, sometimes but not always, the phone becomes very very slow, and sometimes the screen won't unlock - I have to unplug it, unlock, then plug it in again.
I've tried different chargers and cables and combinations thereof, I've tried turning USB charging off or on in Extra Settings, I've tried debug mode on USB or not, hardware acceleration on or off, I've tried charging with the phone off or on, screen on or off, I've tried charging it for 48 hours, the charge level never moves.
This is the closest thread I can find on the issue but it is a mix of problems, and they never find a reliable diagnosis or solution:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/336...rs-stopped-working-but-usb-charging-works-ok/
I don't care if it charges slowly, I'm thinking of trying to mod a USB cable to force it into USB charging mode. Anyone know how?
I far prefer this to re-installing because whenever I connect my phone to my laptop it immediately bluescreens, (despite a fresh Win7 reinstall), and I am lost on my gf's Mac.
These posts describe how to do the opposite (force AC mode) on HTCs:

Thanks enormously for any tips
Chris
Since I lost my charger and had to use a generic micro-USB charger, I have the same problem. USB charge works fine.
May be a problem with the USB cable, have you tried using another one?
(I'm on Ginger Stir Fry, but I don't think it is ROM dependent. )
Thanks for the thoughts. I've tried different cables and chargers and combinations thereof to no avail, hence suspecting something software and looking to mod a cable to force USB mode.
Please anyone know what PINs indicate laptop USB rather than AC USB?
How does my phone know to go into the (disfunctional) AC mode?
Thanks
I think D+ and D- pins (2 and 3) are connected. You would have to mod the charger. Or just use generic USB charger, like those from dealextreme...

[Q] [MTP ERROR] Phone won't connect to PC

Hey guys!
I picked my G2 up 5 days ago, everything was working fine on day one, however now my phone won't connect to the PC either in MTP or in PTP mode. I looked up all kinds of drivers for this device, installed everything, and it's still not working. When I connect my phone, Windows start to search drivers but does not find any. I have Windows 7 64 bit. Now I can't transfer files to the device, and also, when I try to charge via USB 2.0 or 3.0, it says the voltage level is low, so it charges only on low profile.
Appreciating any help.
Have you tried a different USB cable? That would be the first thing to do. If you're not using the OEM cable (the one that came with it), try that post haste.
If you've already done that, have you tried charging it from the wall with the OEM cable and wall socket box? Does it charge? Is it charging at normal speeds?
And finally, is your phone rooted? Does it have a custom recovery? Is it the stock operating system?

Thanks for the fast answer.
Yes, I do use the OEM cable, the one that was in the box. I am using stock ROM, no tweaks at all. The travel charger is working perfectly, it is charging at normal speed. The intresting thing is that it was working for a few days...
I would recommend using Wi-Fi Transfer, or whatever it's called... The built in system in your Qslide Apps, and backing up everything you can to your computer that way, or backup app info (such as SwiftKey) to its respective cloud system if it supports it, then doing a factory reset.
If it doesn't work after that, try to get it replaced, it should still be within your grace period.

I forgot to test it with another cable. Now I did it with a Samsung Galaxy W U2 cable, and it is working, Windows did automatically install the driver and the MTP is working... Interesting... The stock cable has been working for days, and it still does work with the wall charger perfectly, but not the computer.
Do you prop your phone on your chest when you lay in bed? I used to do that while charging my tablet, which also had the USB port on the bottom. It slowly bent the cable connector from the pressure of the tablet being set on it.
Perhaps you accidentally did something similar? And if so, I recommend getting a custom launcher or something that will give you full orientation control of your phone, then turning it upside down so the charger cable is on the top when plugged in.
Also, I'd take the cord to your carrier store and tell them what's going on. See if you can't get it replaced right away.

No, I haven't charged the phone in bed like that, but if the cable was damaged, shouldn't it have the issue with the wall charger too? Because it works just fine with the wall charger.
Not necessarily. I'm no expert on that, but I imagine there are different wires in the cord for data and electricity. If the data one is busted, that would explain why your computer doesn't recognize it, but it still charges on the wall.
The low voltage error could be a play into that as well if there's some kind of handshake that happens between phone and computer that is not happening because of the damaged data line. My PS3 controller is like that, it will only charge on specific wall chargers because of this handshake feature.
That's just my opinion anyway. Not that it matters at this point, because we have established the cable itself is faulty. Which is good because that's way easier to replace than a whole phone.

Can't charge with OEM Adaptor, Only with USB to PC

I'm having a charging issue and am lost on what else to try to fix this. I can't charge using my OEM adaptor and cable, only when connected to PC with USB. The USB cable that works with my PC is the same one I use with the adaptor.
The USB port is on my phone is good, charges fine when connected to PC (although much slower because of different mVS). Read a suggestion to make sure the tab part of the USB connector isn't bent, it doesn't look damaged at all and like I said, has zero problems connecting to my laptop.
Have tried almost everything except going back to stock, and nothing fixes it. I've turned debugging mode off and back on, restored a backup from before the issue began, completely wiped and reinstalled 2 different build of ROMs with and without apps, fixed permissions, tried different kernels, different USB cables...
The adaptor is in good condition. But when plugged in while my phone is on, it doesn't recognize that's it's connected. Previously it would give a false charging reading. If my device is off, sometimes I would get the grey bar battery, but now it's just vibrating every few seconds. Idk what to do...
I have an i337m and am currently running slimkat weekly 6.2 but tried official 6.0 and restored a weekly 5.9 from before the issue began
I did format /data and /data/media (internal sdcard) I think right before the issue began in order to remove some old folded that would appear during cwm installations of zips from internal storage (e.g., hyperdrive for ex, which I haven't had installed since December) but that shouldn't screw up charging at all
Dude, you're trying way to hard. You're charger is messed up

I hope that's the case lol it worked for a bit last night until I unplugged it, then when I plugged it back in nothing happened... seems to only work if power cycled after being connected to my PC

USB Charging issues / Computer does not recognize while on

So this issue happened out of no where after my phone died to zero last night. I tried charging it back up but all I could get out of it was the grey charging battery but it would only stay on for 1-2 seconds shut down and reboot. Let it charging for an hour and got to about 1-2% and it would die as soon as it booted up. Factory restored to OA6 and still see the same issue. This is also the odd thing... I was able to connect it to my computer and use Oden to do the restore! After lots of troubleshooting, trying 4 chargers, I realized wireless charging still works fine. Charged it up 100% over night and wireless charging is still working fine and phone is working fine. Still cannot get USB to be recognized while on either by computer or from USB charger. With a full battery, phone off, and USB plugged in phone still flashes the grey battery icon and reboots constantly.
Only thing I can think of is I had it in my pocket after spin class for a little and moisture might have gotten in the port?
Any ideas what happened here?
Update: I ended up just buying the Nexus 6P since I'm about due for a new phone anyways.
Well just figured I would pass this along. Was bored before and looked at diagrams to fix the USB board and saw this little port in the back you can access really easy. Decided to open that up and press the connection down a little tighter (the USB board is separate from the main board). USB didn't work before doing this, then pressed it tighter plugged USB in again and it worked.
