I had an Elephone S7 in perfect condition which I then lent to a friend. He couldn't get it to work on O2 UK so he fiddled with the *#*#4636#*#* function and accidentally changed the radio system to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL). Although it sees the SIM it won't enable Mobile data, calls or SMS messages. I'm trying to reset it to GSM auto (PRL) which I believe to be the correct setting, but on restart it resets to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL). I have tried factory reset but no change. Any suggestions?

I have a strange problem with my s4.
The auto mode doesn't select the 3G/HSPA and instead selects EGDE/GPRS(both networks have good reception). To get 3G/HSPA I have to switch to WCDMA only mode first and then revert back to GSM/WCDMA auto mode. That's the only way to get to 3G/HSDPA signal.
Any ideas?
I tried factory reset, flashed another rom and also disabled fast dormancy but the result is the same. Every mode prefers edge network except wcdma only. My s3 worked with no issues with the same sim in the same places.
Please give me some ideas. It's my phone faulty or is just a software issue?
An update :
I tried a different sim from another operator.
When i set gsm only, it gets E signal.
When i set wcdma only, it gets either H or 3g
When i set wcdma/gsm auto, it finally changes from E to 3g but NEVER gets H.
I have tried everything, flashed different modems, changes CSC, even tried the google edition but nothing works.
Can this be a hardware problem?
Still waiting for any kind of help
I recently rebooted my phone. Once it came back up, I was unable to connect to my cell network (T-Mobile). I have found the APN setting is missing (Image 1). Using the *#*#4636#*#* and selecting Phone Information (Images 2 & 3) I don't see the phone's IMEI, the GMS Radio shows as OFF and selecting the "Turn Radio On" does nothing. I've tried to change the "Set Preferred Network Type" to LTE/GSM auto (PRL), or anything else for that matter, and after rebooting it is back to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL). Factory resets haven't worked, with and with out auto restore enabled, even not signing in with my Gmail Account. Removing the SIM and reinstalling does nothing.
Thoughts? Is the GMS Radio fried?
Maybe bad Sim. I have had 3 changed. I was told this phone should stay on cdma, gsm, LTE auto prl. In hidden menu. And global in network settings in android. Have not had a problem since. Fingers crossed.....

Dear everyone,
I'm now using RR-7.1.1 rom and it's fantastic. But now I've found one problem.
The original setting of preferred network type is WCDMA preferred. Then I changed to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL).
But once I restart the phone, the setting just went back to WCDMA and I have to change it again.
Do anyone have good ways to lock the setting ?
Thanks.
this works on both single and dual sim and the settings will "stick" after reboot... requires root

Hi there,
I have encountered a strange problem. I was fiddling with the preferred network services in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Now, no matter what setting i use, i can't do any outgoing phone calls anymore, neither can i be called by anyone. I tried to set the menu back to the original setting which didnt help.
Restarting the phone, resetting the sim-settings nothing has worked so far. Does anyone have a clue what I should try to be get my telephony service back?
I am on E-Plus / LTE in Germany.
Thanks a lot!
Try to insert the sim-card into the the second slot.

Have you tried downloading the ZTE A2017G software and installing it? Not too sure about the European model but that has saved my butt with the North American model more than a few times
The phone is stuck in "LTE only" mode. It doesn't connect to 3G or 2G networks anymore. And since my provider does not support VoLTE, there is no telephony service for me. I just found that out in a place where there is no 4G connectivity. The question is - how do I get my phone to connect with 3G and 2G networks again? I tried all preferred network settings in the service menu as well as all settings in the sim-card settings. I formatted the cache. No change. I will try your suggestions and see if that helps. I still find it weird, that I am able to set my phone to 4G only but I am unable to set it back to normal. Btw. the phone is stock and unrooted.
Thanks so far!

I re-installed the A2017G Nougat Update, but that didn't change anything. So I downgraded to B10 (6.0.1). The integrated backup process went bad, so I ended in recovery doing a factory reset. From there things started to get better again, the phone finally connected to 3G and 2G networks! So I updated to Nougat and right now I am setting up my phone again, hey but it works!
I want to warn A2017G users to mess around with the info menu *#*#4636#*#*, especially dont touch the "frequency selection" menu. It gave me two choices "United states" and "800 cellular", both seemed to be wrong for me living in Germany, but I had to choose between the two. I suppose that got me into the trouble in the first place. Stay away from that menu. I learned that the hard way.

Hello
The problem i have is for the Dual SIM version (HongKong).
Every tyme the phone is restarted the Prefered network mode is reset back to default mode : GSM/WCDMA auto
The options I have are:
GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
GSM/WCDMA auto
WCDMA only
GSM only
Has anyone else experienced this and would you know where is the best place to report this to LG?
thank you!
I'm experiencing the same issue when using on T-Mobile. I've even modified my APN settings to match TMO GS8, small change in APN type.
I submitted feedback to LG HK, https://www.lg.com/hk_en/support/contact/chat-email/email
I can confirm this behavior is the same on my H990DS that I'm running on the telus network in Canada. Every time the phone is restarted it always defaults back to "GSM/WCDMA auto" instead of "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
I wrote LG support in canada and they told me they couldn't help me because it's an international phone. And that it was probably a problem with my APN settings (what a pathetic cop out canned response). There is obviously nothing wrong with the APN settings, as it has no problem grabbing an LTE signal when I set the preferred network mode to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
The issue, is that the phone resets it's preferred network mode to "GSM/WCDMA auto" every restart. As seeing that other people are experiencing this same issue in completely different carriers pretty much says that this is problem with the phone .
Has anyone found a solution?
I have the very same issue, i the past I have used an app that I could force a 1x rtt connection on a cdma phone, the app itself used the advanced phone menu to do this, but a lot of these app don't work anymore and haven't since kitkat, but I don't suppose it'll hurt to try, the one I used for my cdma phone was for the HTC thunderbolt, had a gray or black round icon with a little red lighting bolt.
