I know there must be lot of this threads, but a friend of mine its ona a trip and he will buy me my new next smartphone, soo i lack time. I first told him to buy me the Huawei Mate 9, but then i realize abuout the "Plus" and the "Pro" and now im confused. I know the Pro changes to AMOLED which is better than the mate 9. Or all this its about media using "Plus" instead of "Pro"?
I really appreciate your healp.

So a few months ago I decided to check out of the Mate 8 permanently and go for a OnePlus 3T. It's been wonderful but I couldnt help but feel upset that the beautiful beauty i had left in a broken state due to user error on upgrading to nougat was completely unusable and just sitting in my drawer next to my bed. It had carried me through lots of times and a whole year of college i took notes on that thing with the cutest little smartphone keyboard u ever saw. I eventually decided after becoming more familliar with android to take a crack at unbricking it myself because the mate 8 unbrick tool never actually worked. The only thing i could do was boot into twrp, but i couldnt do anything in it.
But, thanks to you guys, you developers and you regular people whom had gotten screwed by Huawei into discovering so many issues about Nougat on the Mate 8. I managed to save my phone and im even on KangVIP B386 and working flawlessly. All of you guys whom use your google drives and basketbuilds for public downloads that are still live links. Thanks to @Ephemera and @pappaschlumf for posting so many fixes and things in their never ending threads of 500 pages each and replying to comments.
Im happy to have 2 phones now that i wouldnt mind popping my sim card into either and hanging out for the day with one or the other
But, as of today, i think im going to hang out with my Mate for the rest of April. We've got some catching up to do:good::silly:

Great stuff! :good:
Also still very happy with the Mate 8. No reasons to upgrade/switch to something else soon, which is rather unusual. Really like the screen, Emui (!), camera (!), battery life.
Still rockin' B386 as well. Not a lot really wrong with that firmware imho. Everything works. It's fast, smooth, stable as a rock, battery is great.
Mate 8 ftw!
thanks man ive got my 3t in one hand and my mate 8 in the other. Love them both to death xD cant go with one or another.
now just imagine having the haptic feel amd hardware of the mate 8 with the developer environment of the one plus 3T, that would be the most amazing phone evah!

Hello,
so I am in a little dilemma.
After 20 months of using my Nexus 6p, I experienced the battery issue. I went to my carrier and they sent it in for repair. They told me it is a warranty issue.
Today, after 5 weeks of waiting, I was notified that my device is ready and I went to the store to get it.
However, I did not get my beloved Nexus 6P, instead they gave me the Huawei Mate 9. The paper I had to sign said "Motherboard changed/Replacement". The guy in the store told me, the Nexus 6P is not available anymore so they got me this, because "it's better".
I am a true believer in Stock Android and I have never used anything different from Stock Android. I like getting the newest features and updates from Google, being able to easily flash and modify my device. Also, I am a dev for native Android apps.
So there are two options in my eyes:
Keep the Mate 9
Sell the Mate 9 and maybe wait another 4 weeks for the Pixel 2 XL (considering I can even sell the untouched Mate 9 for a good price?)
What would you do? I am from Austria btw.
Best,
brnhrd

Why not head over to the XDA section for this phone and hang out a while to see what the current issues are? Mate 9 will never have the same level of community support, or direct updates from Google, but it may be a solid phone with support from several ROM/Kernel devs. The Mate 9 (64gb) is available in the US for $400, so even if you get a "new" price for it (you may get a refurb) you still have quite a deficit to cover if you are wanting a Pixel 2... or even Pixel 1. I'd keep an open mind and play with the phone for a while before making a decision. You can always wipe and sell.

Thank you for the reply.
The Mate 9 that I received is still in its original packaging, with the plastic foil around it. I did not yet dare to remove that foil and open it. I thought it would lead to less value when I wanted to resell...
The features I also miss with the Mate 9 are:
that higher resolution and beautiful amoled display from the 6p
the stereo speakers
the camera too I guess
Such a hard decision.

A lot is riding on how much you can get for it on the market there. If it was not explicitly represented as new, then it is refurbished. If you can't point to anything on the receipt or box that says NEW, then the value is greatly diminished already. The 64 gb Pixel 2 XL is $850 plus tax in the U.S. ($920).... and will be more to you in Austria. The (new) Mate 9 can be purchased here for $400. ($433).
Hello friends,
I'm here for your opinion. My current phone, Mi 9 (got this for 2 years... Probably close to the longest I kept a phone, not because I loved it, just because nothing excited me in the meanwhile), is starting to annoy me with the USB port not working 70% of the time, etc.
So I'm on the lookout for a new device to get next month.
Choices are I think:
Mi 11/whatever Pro version will be (dev for Xiaomi is just OK, and there is really no accessories to find, and I'm a case collection wh*re ^^)
Samsung S21+ (I say byebye to flashing fun for a couple years)
Pixel 5
OP8 Pro (can find some good deals for it)
Thing is I'm thinking that OP9 cannot be so far off, but how will the price be? I'm sure I won't care for SD 888 so it's not really about the specs, I mostly worry about weither or not the price will be right.
I guess my days of new phone every year are gone as well, so would be good to have something with a bit of long term support.
So question here in OP8 forums, do you think it's going to still be a relevant device for a while yet? Or should I look in 2021 stuff?
The OnePlus 9 should still be very good device. We don't know enough about it yet like prices, cameras, etc. Maybe available in March...stay tuned!
The good things of OnePlus devices are....
- easy unlock bootloader
- unbrick tool available
- custom roms/kernel available
You might wait the review of OnePlus 9 Pro , not sure when.
I have seen development in Mi 10 Pro forum in XDA not much development there.
I suggest you to wait for op 9 pro since current flagman op 8 pro have very big troubles with display

Lol u sure?
If you're in the US then fair enough, if you're anywhere else then it's not worth it, it's not the same phone.
It'll overheat, battery won't be as good, my OnePlus 8 Pro would outpace it by some way, the GPU is awful.
Avoid the exynos at all costs, even the camera processing is worse on the exynos.
Check before you buy
You could get the port and battery replaced.
I'd wait till latter in the year to see what rolls out. The economy is tanking so likely it will be more of a buyer's market.
In my opinion Samsung's latest offerings suck.
I wouldn't buy anything without an SD card slot.
The SD card makes an ideal data drive... yes a dual drive 1tb laptop in your hand.
A used good condition 10+ 512gb 12gb ram 4G variant can be had for around $600 at reliable seller B&H Photo.
This was Samsung's last good Note, running on Pie it's very stable, fast and runs well.
No 5G on this model means better battery life. For most 5G speeds suck.
Even if you're in the States, I'd think twice about getting a Samsung (aka Applesauce)

Hmm I see what you mean.
I don't care for SD really. Most OP phones don't have them for a while and so do many. By the way, I cannot remember when was the last time I had a phone with an SD card slot?
Also my point is to be able to make good pictures.
Leaves me with Samsung, if we believe tests Xiaomi 11 or iPhone.
iPhone nope. I like the look of the 12 series, but stuff like my watch would not work well with that.
Xiaomi why not but I want a change. Also, maybe they are headed the way of Huawei?
OP9 may do good pics but will it be : good pictures but not great for a flagship story?
Yeah I could wait but I don't want to spend anymore on my old phone to repair it lol.
I'll see OP again at OP 11 I think!
Would love to see something similar to what was done on the Oneplus 7 pro Truth be told it's making me miss my OP7 Pro.
I'd say give it time, things are being worked on but it takes time and as you may have guessed. Not everyone who had a 7 pro would have felt like getting the 8 pro, personally I think it's a worthy upgrade.
Or they may have moved to the pixel or elsewhere.
I think once TWRP is sorted, a few more Devs will jump ship and we will see more.
For now I don't believe we have this functionality.
Would the version you had on the 7 pro work for the 8 pro? Might be worth asking the original Dev about.
