Whats going on. - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

I'm posting this here only to get answers as xiaomi doesn't feel responsible to communicate with users and miui moderators are bunch of dolls in the hands of xiaomi
Guys if you follow miui forum you may already knew that there is a lot of tension and problems going on in redmi 3s section. Redmi 3s section is a pure mess of miui forum. There is also a big clash between users and moderators and users are raising complaints against biased moderators who always ban users if they speak against xiaomi.
First and foremost if you remember Xiaomi made almost 2 month of delay in launching stable miui 9 for redmi 3s by postponing dates again and again. That period was so hectic and forum was full of complaints. '
After long delay xiaomi launched miui 9.2 no surprise that is was full of bugs.
the second miui 9 update which was 9.5 was pulled back due to so many issues.
and guess what now xiaomi even pulled back the very first miui 9.2 rom launched almost 4 months ago. As a result currently there is no stable global miui 9 ROM for Redmi 3s.
whats going on...............................

Now it's back to 8.5 wah xiaomi r downgrading

1. That's "normal"... I'm not saying that it's right but that has been going on for like 2-3 years now. Even far worse, most MIUI fans act like MIUI is a complete Android "fork" that's better than AOSP itself when it's not. They fail to differentiate UI level changes to "low level" core aspects.
2. Even if official MIUI builds are stable, do realize that it'll always be stuck on MM and April 2017 security level patch for hm3s/land. They only cherrypick major ones such as Stagefright etc, patch that in but simply leave the main security patch as it is.
3. If you're gonna stick with MIUI, the only best option to me are xiaomi.eu releases because those are upstreamed from MIUI China's weekly dev rels, completely debloated from any Chinese cruft and ZERO questionable background analytics.

They release a STABLE update then make in nightly .. It happened for 9.5.1 and now 9.2.2.
They better remove some services and make them optional by each update instead of trying to bake more features.

users are asking for the answers on MIUI forums but no moderator is giving reply to anyone. Do anyone here know whats the real issues behind miui 9 firmwares pull back

Don't bother about MiUi. MiUi sucks. Custom ROM Rocks.

Is the Redmi 2 still worth it?

Hey all,
This is my first post in quite a while on XDA, since I was basically forced to move to IOS (my Ascend Mate 7 was stolen a few months ago ).
I really, really miss Android, and wish to return to the ecosystem that I love most by buying a "cheap and cheerful" Android device out of contract. Xiaomi devices have started popping up in my local stores, thus I was wondering if you guys can offer any insight on whether moving to the Redmi 2 would garner a satisfactory experience (coming from an iPhone 5s)? I wouldn't label myself as a power user anymore, though I am a huge fan of tweaking and ricing my phones, thus I do not need a octa-core gazillion GB RAM powerhouse (yet). Just enough to do all the usual phone stuff and perhaps play Downwell / Pocket Morties every once in a while. Does the Redmi stand up to these needs?
Also if I do pick one up I will absolutely stick a Cyanogenmod (or equivalent) ROM on the phone, thus can anyone comment on performance gain / loss after flashing a custom ROM? Are there any ROM suggestions for daily use (I probably won't flash a different ROM every week, but rather settle on the most stable and closest-to-stock ROM I can find)?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! :good:
I think Redmi 2 Pro/Prime is still worth it, but not sure about 2/2A. Even miui 8 for redmi 2 is based on kitkat while pro/prime seems to be based on lollipop. Features like second space and other new things that miui 8 brings are absent from kitkat version.
Now, CM13 is getting pretty stable, and premaca and nick are working on Nougat and CM14, and not only this, it boots. Thee are not a lot of phones running Nougatand Redmi 2 is one of those few add to this the price and could sound ad a no-brainer.

Jack of all Trades, and Master of NONE??

Hello Developers, fellow users. I am Sam and I'd like to point out something that has been happening everywhere for years but it gets ignored.
I've been using Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 since when it was released in India and I was a XDA member even before that! Previously I had a Samsung Galaxy flagship phone.
Guys, all we've been doing is chasing our tails. Let me tell you why I say this. It starts with using MiUi and getting bored, then eventually Stock Android/AOSP ROMs are made (Of course because of the hard work the developers put in). We use them, they work really good, and their bugs are fewer.
However, as soon as there's a "Newer Version" of Android released, everthing else is left in the dust and forgotten!
Here's what I want to ask anyone and everyone who would answer it......
Why do we chase something that isn't even released for our device? What's the rush?
It started with Marshmallow release.
There were good lollipop ROMs and Marshmallow did not come out for our device, but nevertheless, the process started. Okay, but by the time when some good Marshmallow ROMs were being made, Nougat gets released and all hell breaks loose, "AGAIN"!!! Once more, the process started. And again on the verge of having some good Nougat ROMs, "Oreo is released"? Please see the pattern here!!
Now, we know that Nougat might never be made available, officially, for kenzo.
My point is we haven't had a bug free ROM with good signals, ever!
Not in any version of Android!!
I urge the developers to consider, even partnering up, for making a good and bug free "Marshmallow ROM", Nougat Rom before moving on to OREO

Cuz, this is XDA, dude!
Bored of MIUI is the basis for discussion? I'm in support of all devs I'm happy the way they progressed starting from Marshmallow & now we have stable Nougat where as Xiaomi is abandoning older devices.
Regarding the network strength there's not a huge difference between MIUI & Custom roms imo.
You have two choices try taking this to the next level of Xiaomi executives or never buy MI devices.

1. The basis of this discussion is, actually, the love for stock Android. Not only we get bored of MiUi but also by using TouchWiz, Flyme etc. Okay!!
2. No we don't have stable ROMs yet, not really!!
3. It's strategy to abandon older devices that Xiaomi also follows, nothing odd about it!
So, in short,
I thank thou for your UNvaluable inputs here!!
I think AOSIP by shrisurya is almost complete nougat ROM with best signals and stability.RR,nitrogen, los are pretty strong ones too,so no problem in focusing on developing Oreo ones.just a rookie's thought.

I would rather ignore you at this point but let me answer :
> If you love stock android that's k but bored of MIUI? Do you have a life or just keep staring at your phone lmao, if you give valid reasons like performance, battery life etc that's acceptable.
> We don't have stable roms yet? all Nougat roms are stable for usage in real life i.e. Network, Battery life, No lags or FCs , Theme support, Security patches etc
> Are you talking about strategy with me? Kid, in this case a device that has millions of users and had success there's a lot more to expect in terms of software updates. Abandoning a device with such popularity just after a year is a terrible decision.

Nougat ROMs are already plenty stable. Never experienced any bugs with the ROM I'm using for about 2 months now. Signal quality is the same with MIUI on mine. Using Desolation ROM by the way.
I think the 'Geek' in you is sleeping, you just need to wake him up and you will get the answer to your question.
This is positive post, No offence offered to anyone guys!!

Yeah 5.9 build of AoSIP is good for signals not much else though! None of the rest, i.e. including the newer version of the AoSIP, are even comparable with Global Stock Rom for kenzo!

Okay, regarding the signal quality, no, it most unequivocally, isn't even as good as that of An MiUi Rom!

You're aware that people have their own choices right, also most of us are here because, even if we don't hate/get bored of Miui, We at least don't like/prefer MiUi as much, which includes you too!
1. Also battery is the most....
You know what, I know you can't help me man!
I'm not interested in this stupid quarrel!
So, it's now an EOC with you Vaibhav!

To be fair, your thread is actually pointless/stupid. It's just ranting. You claim there are no stable Nougat, yet there are a lot here that says otherwise. Your definition of stable is suspect here. Probably, stable = perfect.
It's easy to check if signal strength really is better in MIUI. Flash MIUI, put your phone down somewhere then take note of the signal strength(dbm and asu not the signal bar) with several second intervals for several minutes(until you're satisfied) then do the same for the other ROM you want. Mine showed no difference. The only thing better with MIUI was camera quality.
I am using Nitrogen OS nougat for quite some time now, and I must say it's totally stable, never faced any problem till now. And I have even compared the dBm and asu with miui roms, and there's no difference practically, and there's no call drops or poor call quality issues also. You can definitely give it try, I don't know what else you mean by stable.

Mi a1 rom Wishlist

The oreo update for samsung, one plus, htc , moto x4 are all out and mi a1 is about to get oreo within 6 days as to what they have promised. But the major potential of this phone doesn't lie in the oreo update it lies in Kernal Sources. Xiaomi has promised within 3 months but now its almost 4 but consider the situation similar to mido i think they would release within a month (if released would be great). As soon as the kernal sources are out the first rom i think is best is the pixel experience rom thats currently awesome to look on rn4. Also the live wallpapers of pixel are working smooth on rn4 in pixel rom so that means it could run on mia1 too without any lags as it lags now due to optimization. The first custom roms would be entirely base on 8.1 and i want to ask the rom developers that they wont avoid the devices but as they know its potential producing a lot roms so the users can be delighted with various options.

End of OS upgrades and maybe security updates support for Mi A1

This is not as question, but as discussion about our phone official support. And yes Mi A1 won't get Android Q:crying: According to Google answer Pixel/Android One phone receive at least 18 month for OS upgrade support. And as today (March 2019) it's already passed. It's about OS upgrades. Now about security updates. According to Google in past the Android One should have at least 3 years security updates support. But on October 2018 Google gave an official mandate about taking 2 years of security updates for popular Android phones (later in December 2018 Google change rules for Android One as well to 2 years). But since Xiaomi doesn't really care about Mi A1, it shows that the end of support is near (maybe 1 or 2 months).

Time to move to a custom ROM
At least, means it will get no less than 18 months new OS releases.
On the other side, i think it will sure get the new ''whatever-iteration-may-have'' Q version of android because there will be no major difference in OS and will be easy enough for developers to adapt.

Not sure for it. 18 months has passed just now. I don't have any hopes for xiaomi to make new update, just because they already showed how much quality they put in upgrate of phone (Android pie for exp.) Making android Q doesn't makes them any profit. And in their interest to get customers buy new devices.

Yep. It is. There are already new march security update out. Customs get it almost instantly. While official there's no any guarantee to even get any further updates at all.
I'm already on LOS. 9.0 push me to LOS 15.1 and I'm sure I will never come back to stock.

I am on stock. No root. No nothing. And I really love my Mi A1. But every time I see people talking about loving custom ROMs I wonder what am I missing?
Does anyone have a solid official confirmation from Xiaomi that they won't be continuing to support the Mi A1 in terms of major OS updates? I'm thinking about moving to a custom ROM but I want to ensure that there won't be any major official updates coming anymore.

you miss a lot, but not need per se a custom rom, is enough root + all the goodies will come with root and customization.
force doze, custom kernel, magisk modules, google camera and so on.

To others, there is a lot. But to me, there is only 1 thing: stock doesn't support Ex-fat sd cards, and the only kernel that offer true Ex-fat support is custom roms only. On stock 8.1 I can live with a Magisk module that support Exfat but 9.0 is the main reason I jumped ship.
The unofficial los 16 by flex is an amazing rom don't let the unofficial bit put you off, it's the perfect daily driver, more customisation than stock but not ott like some roms
I am happy to have gotten 2 major updates, previously at this price point we would have been lucky to get 1, so android 1 program has increased value with updates. I was hoping to get 3 years of security updates, so disappointed Google has changed the requirement, but perhaps Xiaomi will honour the expectations when the device was released.
Even at 2 years I would still have bought the phone, but annoyed if it's changed after purchase.
I currently use Stock unrooted Rom, the first phone I haven't at least rooted, but I am sure the community will keep the phone going for another couple of years at least.
I bough this phone on Nov 2017 (if note mistaken) and I'm quite satisfy with the update from Nougat to Pie. But if you buy the phone later than that you probably feel not enough update (because you only receive Oreo to Pie update) but I believe you have received price drop compare to the initial release.
I prefer stable rather than updated OS. This device is already more than 1 year and new android OS will optimize new hardware, smartphone hardware obsolete very fast compare to PC or other device. There's no other choice if you want to optimize your phone to the latest android OS except buying new phone. I like to stay to the stock rom (with Magisk of course) till the end just to get full experience of Android One. I'm not gonna denied that Android One is a bit mess up either from manufacture side and Google itself. I will probably buy Android One device again in the future (few years from now) and see how much Android One will improve.

Same here, first ever un-touched stock. I'm still satisfied with this mid-low budget phone and that the OS is (pretty) free from "customization".
It is (was) a good bang for the buck when bought in Nov. -17 and still does it's job.
Features like GCam and similar were never promised or supported so that wasn't an issue for me nor a reason to root...

Situation with OTAs,any type of Betas ?

I'm in a position where I could trade in my Oneplus 6T for a 9T.I like the 9T for it's cameras, bigger battery, fingerprint and feel it would be a useful trade for me, but.
Oneplus is so good with OTAs and open betas
I would probably miss that if I moved
What's Xiaomi like for updates ?
Specifically ,are there any Beta programs
Read somewhere they've stopped global betas
So then you only have something like quarterly updates,
Is that correct ?
I'd flash the eu Version (has no bloatware) and they push weekly updates

China beta updates every week and xiaomi.eu debloats It and adds language support, so of you're confortable with modding (you don't lose your warranty of you unlock the bootloader) and want a taste of MIUI, you can use Xiaomi.eu beta ROM (most certainly First build Will come out tomorrow morning)

Yes, unfortunely this Is the worst thing about Xiaomi, software, that's One of the reasons why It Is so cheap, luckily enough there are plenty of devs willing ti build custom ROMs and patch GSI images for Xiaomi devices
there is no xeu beta rom for k20/mi9t. only stable.
and there is for k20pro/mi9t pro. i am also little disappointed , but even if xiaomi wil stop global beta program, why there are beta roms for others for example mi9se, as i metion already k20pro, why no for me 9t/k20
