First time forum user looking for some answers and a bit of help so thanks in advance for anything you can provide!
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from WIND Mobile in Canada. The model number was SM-N900W8. It seems although carriers know the device has the required bands, they limit listing them on their website if they do not support them and go one step further by having Samsung block the bands through some type of software cripple.
My concern is I use WIND Mobile when local and Telus Mobility when in fringe areas which WIND Mobile does not cover. Prior to buying this device from WIND outright, I confirmed with Samsung live chat support this specific model from WIND will support LTE on Telus. I was told I must first activate the device on WIND and they once I unlock the device, I can configure the Telus APN settings for use on the Telus network. When I do this, I get a max speed of 3G and in the network connections, it does not show: LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) but instead, the 3 original modes which you can select when on WIND Mobile: WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA only and GSM only.
It seems as if the unlock and APN settings are the first 2 parts but in order for LTE to work, you must disable the cripple which Samsung has implemented for it's distribution to WIND Mobile since they do not support that frequency or radio band. My concern is it looks as if this must be done through a root or flash and I hear about phones getting bricked. I paid a lot of money for the device and cannot afford to damage it so do not know what options I have.
If I do enable LTE through a flash and then get an OTA Samsung update, will this remove the flash? How must I go about getting LTE enabled permanently without issue or is this not possible? Thank you for the help!

Thank you so much. I will follow this guide word for word but is there any risk of bricking my phone like I have read so much about? The last thing I want to do is mess something up and have a paperweight.
If I root the device as suggested and receive an OTA notification from Samsung to update the software, will this lock everything again and make me go through the procedure all over again or will it be permanently enabled? Thanks!

So, I rooted the device and assume it was successful since I have the SU (Super User) App installed. I ran the TWRP file which I assume is the OS which enables all the crippling Samsung initially implemented when releasing this phone to WIND Mobile but the problem still stands. I have entered all the correct APN settings for Telus yet it still only provides a 3G connection. Have I done something wrong and can any of you gurus familiar with rooting and updating a custom OS provide some insight. Thanks!
I think I'm worse than a noob. At least they can figure this stuff out! I followed the quick root steps and the twrp steps but was I supposed to do something else to enable LTE? The phone is definitely rooted and has the SU App installed. TWRP just seems like a program which allows installation of a custom ROM directly from the device but I may be wrong. My concern is the TWRP file I downloaded looks as if it's a tar file which the phone loads allowing HSPA and LTE capability. If so, it did not work on my WIND device.
You can't get the OTA if you have custom recovery installed. I.e. TWRP or CWM. You gotta wait for custom roms. I don't know about the lte thing

yea you're totally wrong here man... not sure how to enable lte capability, but wind's network is hspa+ already so that's enabled.
i do know you have to unlock it, likely with a sim unlock code or getting someone to unlock it, but after that, the theory is, that it should work.....
WIND is 4G and I have unlocked the device already. I am using a Telus SIM card and have correctly entered the Telus APN settings for LTE but it does not show LTE as a network mode which I can select. Seems to me Samsung has crippled this band since WIND does not support it. Since I have rooted the device, which I probably didn't need to do, I was hoping to find a flash which will permanently enable the LTE so it will function on Telus.
To use Telus LTE you need to switch to the Telus SIM card
then it should read the Telus APN from it, if not you can enter the Telus LTE APN and it should use it

I have done this already. The steps followed to date are as follows:
Purchased my WIND Mobile Galaxy Note 3 (model: SM-N900W8)
Unlocked the device through cellunlocker.net for 32.99 USD
Placed my Telus SIM into the device and it read the details. I was able to call and text without issue but did not have data connectivity. Contacted Telus and received the Telus LTE APN details and entered this information. Unfortunately, the network mode only shows 3 options: WCDMA/GSM (auto-connect), WCDMA only and GSM only.
There should be a fourth option for LTE capability but this is not displaying. I rooted my device and followed the TWRP step thinking this TWRP file was the rom to enable the LTE capability which seems to be locked but this is not the case. I am way off here but know it's probably something simple which I am missing!
yes, the 4th option for the LTE needs to flash another modem
i got it working here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46259468&postcount=39
find any of the Note 3 threads with flash-able modems, and flash the one from Puerto Rico that enables the LTE

To confirm your above statement, am I going to the following page and downloading the firmware for Puerto Rico?
http://www.samsungis.com/Firmwares/SM-N900W8.html
or must I locate a thread to download just modem firmware and then follow the same ODIN instructions as I did with the other files?
Thanks!

you only need the modem, you don't need to flash an entire ROM.
there was a reference topic with a list of downloads for all different modems for the Note 3 in the General section of this Note 3 portion of the forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475714
they are still uploading all the different models, you you might want to wait a bit, or you can extract it on your own, if you know how to do that from an odin .tar file.

Following the link you provided, it indicates the modem for model SM-N900W8 is "coming soon..." so it does not look like a modem is available for my model at this time. I tried looking for the Puerto Rico modem flash which you used but I do not see reference to it.
I was going to install the SM-N900W8 ROM for telus which would have the modem but as research indicates, if you install the wrong carrier ROM, you brick your device. I may have misinterpreted this but the last thing I wish to do is brick my device and have an expensive paper-weight in the end. Thanks again!

So I just got my phone unlocked with cellunlocker.net code, threw in a bell SIM and rebooted etc, it worked and was pretty quick but nothing too incredible. Was getting top download speeds of about 750kb/s (or 6mbps) whereas on wind I'd get about half that tops in my current location. My question here is, the phone said 3g....to me that seems way too fast for 3g but not nearly right for lte and I also couldn't see lte as an option for the bands. I assume that's cuz I still had the wind modem on the phone? Even when I went into the *#2263# screen to enable lte it still didn't work....
Any ideas? Should I flash the Puerto Rico Rom? Does it still work on wind bit just also let you use the lte radios when the correct SIM is in?

How long did it take to get your unlock code with cellunlocker.net? Which device did you pick in the dropdown?
I got a quote for 14.99 but guessing you have to pay more for a secondary search later?

I'm really new to this but hopefully this will clarify some info regarding WIND and please correct me should I be wrong. There are two things when working with a phone. Customization to the OS and proper data connection. If you wish to tweak your device, push it to the limits and customize your OS settings, you can root your device.
If you wish to just enable LTE so you can use it on an LTE capable network like Telus, Bell or Rogers in Canada, you must flash the proper modem file to enable LTE. As I understand, the Puerto Rico Modem Flash will allow you to enable LTE data on the WIND Mobile variant of the Note 3. You can get the Puerto Rico Modem Flash from Post #27 by AllGamer at the following link:

I think this is safe but I'm waiting for clarification from AllGamer regarding what is meant by their statement "NOT for flashing!". Thank you for your reply. I am not sure why everything sounds so complicated.
I was able to flash a small file to my S4 (rogers) to enable the WIND bands. The phone did not need to be rooted, ODIN worked like a charm and my S4 became pentaband
This ordeal with the note 3 is not as straight forward. I have been following all your post but I see that you have not received any straight forward answers to your questions. I am not an expert when it comes to rooting or flashing so I would love a simple way of doing this.
Thank you again, lets hope that we will find an easy way to do this
Hey!
From what I've read online it looks like all S7 Edges are built identically which means that the bands must be controlled by software. Are there any firmwares, patches, or tricks that enable other bands? I have a Verizon S7 Edge on T-Mobile so I'm mainly looking to unlock band 12. I saw this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...e-flashing-sm-935u-firmware-verizon-t3415145/ but im not sure if that will unlock the bands or not. VoLTE and WiFi-Calling would be a plus.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I haven't tried this but my s6 edge works for my gf on metro and it's a Verizon phone with of1 firmware. I don't see why the u firmware wouldn't work for you.

Maybe now that you're on the U firmware you could flash the T-Mobile firmware? Not sure if it would work or not, maybe you'd be willing to try. Make a backup just in case...
I do belive the band's are controlled by the baseband/radio file in the updates, of course most of my experience is with the ENG bootloader on HTC devices so I think for Samsung it's either modem or pda....more experienced members can correct me if I'm wrong, so feel free to jump in

Do you think flashing the T-Mobile firmware would help? I posted in the other thread asking if it would work but if flashing firmeware replaces everything (bootloader, os, kernel, etc) then it should work right?

Here is about all I can find from someone reliable.

--To me this says - it should be fine to flash the full US Unlocked RUU/firmware, which is x.xx.617.x, I think the latest is 1.91.617.1
I personally have flashed the pmic-8996-1.img from multiple firmwares including, International, US Unlocked, and Tmobile testing out WiFi drain. So, some bits are ok, but the aboot.img (bootloader) contains the partition, so anything other than VZW or the US Unlocked could result in a brick.
Until someone takes the plunge and reports back, or unless their are people out there whom have done this but not seen the posts asking the question. So hopefully if they are out there they will see this thread and comment.

Reviving this to ask a related question:
Can I safely flash the latest U.S Unlocked radio to my VZW 10 which has the latest VZW firmware?
If you flash the unlocked radio you will most likely lose all your verizon features such as volte and so on I would not if you use verizon services. For what purpose would you want to may I ask ? If you want to run your Verizon version on At&t or Tmobile there are threads on both I believe, but you should have support for other carriers already I believe as I think you will just get a non Verizon sim message is all but AndyBones can direct you on how to remove that nag.

I'm not actually using the phone on Verizon network, I bought it second hand and using it on Rogers network in Canada. Everything runs fine including LTE, but reception is weaker than on my M7 (purchased from Rogers) hence my wanting to try the U.S Unlocked radios to see if things improve. Similarly voice call quality is not that great though it has improved with the 1.82 firmware upgrade.
I don't mind testing out the radio myself, just need some assurance about being able to without bricking the device due to firmware mismatch or other incompatibilities. As pointed out in this thread very little information exists out there from people who have unbranded their VZW 10s or flashed non-VZW radios.
Have you tried running the latest RUU for the Verizon HTC 10 ? This may fix your issue if you have not already. Also I think on another thread Dottat posted a method to reset your bands of some some if you look on his thread for being able to use the unlocked 10 on Verizon he has it posted on there I believe. Resetting the bands or modem has worked for some people with issues with signal.

I'm not having an "issue" per se, I just want to see if I can get improved reception with a new radio, so I don't think an RUU flash would change much (I have already reset my modem for a separate issue).
Thanks for your help, I'm hoping that andybones or another dev can answer my question about being able to flash a non-vzw radio safely.

Is Rogers a CDMA based carrier (I legit don't know). You may need to do an entire us unlocked swap, not sure if anybody has tried that yet with a vzw phone.
No Rogers is a GSM network but my VZW 10 works fine on it.
If by debranding you mean to convert it to US Unlocked version, then Straightforward answer: Yes. You don't need to read further if all you needed was a yes or no, but I felt I should post what I did to convert it to US unlocked from Verizon for others who might need help.
Verizon 4G LTE devices are already unlocked. So, just to be sure, I S-OFFed my device first via sunshine. While S-OFFing, I chose the option of S-OFF with locked bootloader. Then I changed the CID to BS_US001. Didn't have to change the MID as it was the same as US unlocked version, i.e. 2PS650000. Flashed latest TWRP (for nand backup just in case). Flashed US unlocked RUU 1.8X.617.X. Successfully updated to 1.96.617.2 via OTA.
One thing that I immediately noted after converting to US Unlocked version was that the option of OEM Unlocking which was previously not present in the Verizon version became available in the Developer Options. Hope it helped.

Hi GrimJoke,
Thanks your post! Since I last posted here I've managed to do exactly as you described and ran the Unlocked RUU, updated to 1.96. Now running stock ROM and everything works great, and in fact the phone runs better than it did on vzw software.
I've noticed the same regarding OEM Unlocking. I read from Captain Throwback here that we should now be able to unlock the bootloader with htcdev and with superCID 22222222. I won't try since it's pointless for me.

how about from Verizon to complete wwe using wwe radios for international gsm network?
does volte work with tmo, att etc after gsm?
I have an x720 and have been reading on how to unlock band 17 and 12 for at&t and t-mobile LTE service. As of right now I have some limited LTE service on band 2 and 4 (at&T) but it leaves much to be desired.
I see everyone here flashing the x720 firmware to get their x727 bootloader unlocked and then flashing back to the USA Firmware to get their LTE bands back. Is the reverse possible for the x720? Can I flash the USA firmware to get the LTE bands? Will this re-lock my bootloader?
I tried flashing the modem fix from https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/flashing-guide-roundup-leeco-le-pro-3-t3511901 on my x720 and now my sim card is being detected even after a wipe and reflashing my rom. So I'm assuming i'm gonna have to go back to stock firmware anyway. I've been a long time flashoholic and modder and I'm dedicated to getting this to work for us x720 people in the US.
What about this guide for the le max 2? I've heard all qualcomm devices can benefit from this procedure:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/guide-unlock-bands-leeco-le-max-2-fix-t3439154
UPDATE: Fixed no sim error after flashing x727 modem.
Downloaded a stock version of the Chinese Firmware and extracted the zip, then booted into fastboot and flashed the modem. You need the NON-HLOS.bin file. Then run "fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin" and reboot! Voila. But still no band 17
I think unlocking the bands is not as easy as just flashing a ROM. When I was investigating OnePlus 3T, there is a long thread about it and basically band unlocking requires a lot of tools, some from Qualcomm and not easy to get, and a process that is not for noobs, not even for "professional TWRP flashers" but hardware-engineering-mode noobs anyway.
You can have a look here on how complicated it is (OP3T forum):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-unlock-additional-lte-bands-t3519563
Initially I liked OnePlus3T more because of optical stabilizer in camera, but lack of bands (or better to say, their separation into North American and European version) was a no-go for me. I need bands 2, 3, 4 & 20 and there is not a from-factory OP3T with those 4 bands in one device. Band unlocking might be possible but I would not risk messing with a $450 hone to get bands 3 & 20 unlocked on NA version. So I went with Le Pro 3 X720 and I am a happy camper.
So unless you know what you are doing, or are an adrenaline junkie, I would not mess with band unlocking.
I would absolutely LOVE to see an answer and/or progress on this EXACT scenario being made. Both myself and my wife have Le Pro 3's because of the universal network band support and INSANE performance of this phone (I've literally never seen such a performer with such large battery AND ridiculous band support at such a cost effective price) ((I bought both for $249 each).
I would LOVE to be able to buy the Chinese version with the 6G of ram, and then unlock the NA bands, specifically and especially bands 2,4,12,17,and 20 would be needed for our phones. So I'm super interested in this. You want to do exactly what I'd like to do, although you have the Chinese phone in your hand and I don't.
Both of our phones (x727) are bootloader unlocked, rooted, and TWRP recovery installed on stock .21S done by myself. So if there's anything I can help with, let me know.
Are you rooted? Download Network Signal Guru and lock bands under the menu in the top-right. See what LTE bands are listed there.

Yeah I've read through that process before I posted. I don't know if I'd call that "hardware-engineering" just because it puts a device into serial mode and communicates with NV memory.... I used qualcomm's boarddiag tool to unbrick a nexus 5 with the serial connection... doesn't seem any different at all actually :fingers-crossed:
I'm not ruling that out as a method, however I think we may have hope to do it easier. The x727 has been many times on this forum successfully flashed to x720 firmware. Everyone who did this reports the loss of usa bands though i have not seen confirmation that they GAIN additional chinese bands. That indicated to me that the baseband/modem is the only difference between the x727 having band 12 and the x720 not having it. We just need to tweak the x720 modem with the bits from the x727 modem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/flashing-guide-roundup-leeco-le-pro-3-t3511901 In this thread there are several users that say they successfully flashed their x720 with x727 firmware and had full LTE, however there are also users reporting flashing the x727 firmware gives them a "no sim card detected". The latter was my experience. I believe this has to do with the switch from dual sim cards to single sim cards, i tried several build.prop tweaks to try and resolve with no luck.

From my x720: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ,7, 8, 20, 38, 39, 40, 41
I think that's what is officially listed online. Most people in the US would be fine with this except the notable lack of band 12(tmobile) and 17(at&t).

Then let's get started! Looks like all we are missing from your list is band 12 and 17.
Can you get me a dump of the baseband? I'd like to start digging into it and compare the x720 and x727.
I may try the qualcomm tools if I get the chance this weekend. If I have success and don't brick my phone I'll do a write up specifically for the LP3...

Sure man, I'm totally down to help however I can. I've never dumped a baseband before (never had the need) so the process eludes me, but I'm more than happy to perform whatever steps needed to do so.
Just give me a detailed rundown on how to do it or what tools/commands to run and I'll have it done for you ASAP. You can privately message me if you'd like, makes no difference to me. Give me the knowledge and I'll give you the love.

I'll shoot you a PM in a bit.
As far as progress on this goes, I'm trying to enable them via the DFS guide that was copied over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/help/unlocking-bands-t3565979
I'm going to see how complicated it is and if that negates the time we are spending here first.
I am having the exact same issue as the OP. Any movement on a solution. I am willing to help/test. Not a noon but far from an engineer.
Question, how do I unlock the bootloader now? With the us servers down I can't get twrp files. Also, I can't unlock the bootloader with adb. I'm trying to flash Lineage OS onto my x727. All help is appreciated, thanks.

Hello everyone so this my history I'm on T-Mobile Network and I have a Verizon v20 unlock phone everything working good just the internet is slowly so I searched about how to enable bands (I can't find something clear ) on Verizon v20 to make it work on TMobile (full LTE ) its this possible ? Is there some mode or something the really work (Unlock bands) like I said already searched but I can't find something really clear
Note : I have just H sign allway on like other user experiment jus show 4g lte for a minute
Thanks on advance
If I understand you correctly, perhaps you need to set up an APN for T-Mobile. It'll be under Settings->Networks->More->Mobile Networks->AccessPoint Names.

Well I already have the TMobile APN and I trying to figure how to get lte because I have only H icon and no Lte (speed) so what the asking is if is possible activide TMobile band like 7 , 12 etc ... Thanks for your reply ?
Well, you came from Verizon CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM. As long as you've got the proper values in the T-Mobile APN (and you got your sim from T-Mobile), I'm not aware of anything else you can do. Could be wrong, though.
Good Luck!

Thanks I'll keeping searching if I find something I'll post here but if someone have a information about how to making work (unlock frequency's band ) more than welcome ?
The ONLY way I could is to flash another carrier or us996 custom rom. The vs995 rom apparently forces the phone to connect to Verizon towers and bands only. Can't edit in any secret menus, nothing, that's the only way I could. Tip, if you want to use wifi calling, flash a custom stock TMobile room not us996
Interesting so there is a way to flash us996 (Spring correct ?) rom on V995 ? Anyone know what's the safe way if is possible ? ?

Flashing a tmobile rom on a nontmobile phone is a great way to brick. Best case it won't boot and lets you flash back, though it could trip ARB as well making it impossible to roll back. The kernel uses a different security key than the other models.
Has anyone tried flashing a Non.Hlos.Bin from which-ever carrier you are wanting to use?
I don't own this phone, I just by chance took a look at this thread.
Yes of course you would need the correct APN. But you may also may need to flash the modem file from the carrier you are wanting to use. ( It can be extracted)
Another option is using QPST.
With QPST you can change the IMEI, add bands, repair a bricked phone, flash a rom etc. These are just suggestions for things to try. Again, I do not have this phone.
Old thread I know, but if you or others have this problem, have you tried using the LG hidden menu (accessed using dial screen)?
*#546368#*996#
If you have the 996 version, just copy & paste. Otherwise, just change 996 to what model you have.
Field Test > Modem Settings > LTE Band Selection
Select the band you want to use/test, then wait a few seconds for it to register. Your signal will drop for a moment, then should show 4GLTE, if you selected the correct one. There may be more than one that works, but one may be more congested.
You should find a list of available bands for your carrier, before messing around.
Also, do not mess with other settings, or you could really screw up your phone I know from experience.
