So my VS995 (Verizon LG V20) is stuck in a fastboot loop. I can't do anything outside of fastboot. I got to after step 3 in the Dirty Santa root method and could not get the phone to boot into TWRP recovery. I kept getting an ADB device offline error and could not get ADB to see my device to initiate the "ADB reboot recovery command".
In a stupid and drunk state I did a "fastboot erase system" and thats what locked me into the fastboot loop.
Any help is appreciated as my V20 is now unusable :crying:.
I guess I would need a stock boot image, and stock recovery to get back to where I started. If anyone could point me in the right direction and help me get my phone back (and possibly rooted), I would be more than happy to donate via PayPal .
P.S. The LGUP software used in the how to restore v20 thread linked-> ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903) does not recognize the model of device giving the error ("you have to select a known model, please")

I was able to flash the appropriate stock .kdz file (THANKS dwertz!) but my phone immediately boots right back into FastBoot Mode
Do I need a stock Boot.img file?
I can communicated with the device through the PC's terminal using fastboot. Are there any fastboot commands I could try to boot into the stock firmware I just flashed? Are there any partitions I need to erase or format?
Any help is appreciated!

to my understanding, the kdz file contains the stock boot.img and stock system.img, everything to bring the device completely back to stock .
In fastboot to boot to the system the command is "fastboot reboot"

After flashing the stock .kdz firmware for the VS995 fastboot is no longer working and giving me the error FAILED (remote: unknown command).
My phone can not get past FastBoot! :crying: I think I really bricked this thing now. My bootloader is locked, fastboot commands don't work at all.
The only thing that does work is download mode (holding volume up and plugging phone in) and I am able to flash the vs995 firmware from the lg website but i STILL can't boot into anything but fastboot.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to fix this thing. I think i'm doomed. I may try to flash the stock us996 firmware because at this point it seems like it wont get any worse.
Any help would be appreciated!

did you ever get any help? I would go directly to the dirty santa thread and make your issue known. I'm not sure how much help I could give you but if no one else is willing to help I can try.

Did you flash the kdz using Uppercut?
imucarmen - I can't post in the dirty santa thread because I am a new member to XDA (been coming here for years just never made an account )
bond32 - Yes I was able to flash the .kdz using Uppercut+LGUP but my problem is not fixed. My phone still boots right to FastBoot Mode in the "Locked State" to where I can't issue any commands or alter any partitions.
This makes no sense to me if LGUP is able to 100% flash the stock firmware, WHY CAN'T I GET OUT OF FASTBOOT! Lol
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could try to unbrick this thing?
I know it's a different issue from the one that I had, but the LG Support Tool method that KedarWolf posted might help solve this issue too.

Splinter 77 - Thank you for the suggestion. I have been trying to get this tool to work for a couple hours and everytime it hangs on the Downloading Firmware section. No matter what I try I can't get it to download the firmware....
Does anyone have some ideas I can try? I'm up for anything at this point!

Did you try pulling the battery, put the battery back in.
Hold the volume down and power button at same time. When the lg logo shows up let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume down and press the power button again. It will bring you to a screen tgat has 2 questions. Answer yes to both of them. Then reboot. I believe that resets the way the phone boots almost like resetting a cmos

ahh i got it man! @Kevin_xail
i dont know if this will help seince u relocked, but do the factory reset dance
hold the vol down and power and put in battery as soon as its on click the power button and re hold it. it will get to recovery, it took me hours but its there.
I had tried that a few times after reading about it but I'll try now for an extended period of time and see if I can activate it. I'll report back with what happens, thanks for the tip dwertz and Team DevDigitel
Well I got in to the recovery menu and reset to factory settings and wipe cache (the only two options) but I still am booting right into FastBoot and can't escape!
I even flashed the stock .kdz again after the factory reset and wiping cache and I'm still stuck in FastBoot
Any other suggestions to try?

When you have a unlocked boot loader and you do a factory reset, I believe it wipes the OS from the phone giving you no OS. If you can get back to recovery, flash this rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/vs995-vzw-nrd90m-modded-notsostock-rom-t3525864
That will at least get you booted so you can flash the kdz.
I can't get into any kind of recovery to flash a rom though

Same problem here, did you ever fix it?
One of my costumer V20 is now stuck in fastboot.
Whatever I do, it's keep coming back to fastboot mode.
I can enter download mode, and try flash , even using the costum LG up, with upgrade option, partition DL option.
I use Box ( octopus, Z3x ).
I don't know what is wrong with this phone.
it's only going back to fastboot.
Any help is really apreciated.
Thank You.

It goes back straight to fastboot after LG logo
If you can get into download mode try the 'upgrade' option in lgup
It is stuck in fastboot because your customer tried to root it with lafsploit without unlocking the bootloader.
They have two choices:
1 - Send it to LG to have it repaired.
2 - Wait for me to finish lafsploit 2.0 which will unlock their bootloader, and their phone will just start working.
The partitions that hold the unlock information are not touched when you flash a KDZ, so no amount of flashing is going to fix it.

If you cant get into download mode by powering off, holding vol up and then plugging into a pc (no power button needed) then you dont have a phone anymore. Unless rooted via dirtysanta which replaces aboot (which provides fastboot), the stock fastboot mode of the h918 can't actually flash anything to the phone which means no unbricking with it; TWRP and download mode are only ways to restore firmware.
I know this is an old thread but my gf has the h918 which is unlocked with twrp Installed, she tried updating magisk from inside magisk and now she's stuck in fastboot mode .The fastboot reboot command does not reboot the phone I even booted into twrp and wiped cache any ideas?

As per the title, I foolishly deleted the boot and aboot. I did this because my phone malfunctioned a few days back suddenly giving a yellow screen after booting. I searched for many solutions but there were none. So I came across with a tutorial which teaches me to delete those file and reinstall via fastboot. I did the delete part but suddenly phone got disconnected and I wasn't able to reinstall the boot images. Now when I plug the USB and tries to switch on, I can feel the vibration but the screen is not coming up. Can someone please help me with a way to restore the phone. Ill make a 40$ donation to the person who will give a solution to recover the phone again .
Only LG has a prayer of fixing it. Without aboot, you can't boot into anything, and it's responsible for fastboot too. Basically never ever touch aboot, and if for some reason you absolutely must, don't delete, just flash a new one over it... Though since chances are you don't have a US996 unlocked through LG you would have at least soft bricked since an engineering aboot is what's responsible for keeping the bootloader unlocked on everything else but the h918
does that include laf too?
Have you tried holing the volume up key and plugging in the usb cable to see if it can boot up directly to laf and then use lg bridge recovery or lg update to flash the kdz for your phone?

Includes laf too. Aboot boots EVERYTHING. He is d o n e bricked and in 9008 mode. For a detailed description of the boot process, see @runningnak3d 's post on how not to brick. He's recently said it's not entirely accurate, but it still gives a good enough overview of the booting process, most relevant:
This time the XBL verifies ABOOT with its own RSA key. If ABOOT is OK, then it loads. At this point, you will have download mode, and at least you can recover (if you have a KDZ). No matter what -- NEVER mess with XBL or ABOOT unless you absolutely want a brick. If ABOOT is corrupt or invalid in some way, then the CPU goes into QD_LOADER (9008) mode.
So now we have ABOOT loaded. ABOOT does a lot of things. Directly, it provides fastboot mode, indirectly, it provides download mode by booting laf. In order to have download, you have to have a working laf. LAF is just a kernel with an initrd that runs lafd (more on that later). ABOOT also allows you to boot recovery. Again, recovery is just a kernel with an initrd.

fastboot bypasses aboot, at least to my knowledge, i have an H910

No. In fact aboot provides fastboot as explained in the bit of Runningnak3d's post I quoted above, and that's also why doing dirty Santa which installs an engineering aboot enables fastboot mode, where as the stock aboot for the v20 (except for the h918 and us996) has fastboot disabled.
Do we even know what variant he has?
It doesn't matter what model he has. If you null out xbl or aboot you don't even get QDLOADER (9008) mode. They can be corrupt, or have the wrong RSA sig, or ...... and you will get 9008. If the PBL tries to load them and they don't exist at all it goes into an infinite loop and the only way to fix it is to replace the NAND.

Yep that phone is a true brick now. Bummer AF bro
R.I.P fallen V20.
21 gun Salute
LG V20 910
On boot, it shows the LG logo, but does not start.
When I hold Vol up and plug in usb, the same thing happens
When I hold Vol down and plug in usb it does boot to fastboot
Factory reset gives a kernel crash error
adb does not recognize the device
fastboot via command prompt in windows does recognize it
LGUP does not recognize it
Is there a way for me to flash back to H91510e_00_VTR_CA_OP_1205.kdz with Fastboot, or is there another method to get download mode again?
How did you brick your phone? If you just turned it on one day and this happened, it is more than likely a hardware problem.
Since you say that you can get to fastboot -- I am guessing you were rooted since the H910 doesn't have fastboot without the engineering bootloader.
If so, then fastboot boot twrp.img
If TWRP will boot, you can fix your phone from that.

Hello,
I guess I ****ed up big time.
My G6 is currently in the state of rebooting over and over again. Can't access EDL Mode through volume up.
I only manage to get to factory data reset, but it does not change anything.
My mess up:
I unlocked the bootloader with this guide just fine: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...urrently-supported-eu-h870-usa-us997.3614719/
Until step 9 everything was fine.
But using the factory reset trick to enter the TWRP 3.5.1 it just didnt work. The phone would boot into normal android.
I then rechecked the LG Unlock guide.
The command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" seemed familar.
Not realizing the difference between recovery and boot I used the command above to flash TWRP.
Now the phone only reboots. No chance to enter EDL mode (I see it poping up for a split second, then the phone switches to a normal boot).
No chance to boot into android to use adb commands.
I guess my only option is to try to open up the phone, shorting two points and use the following post to get into edl mode?
LG G6 TestPoints for EDL Mode (9008)
Simple af. Just short them. For incase that doesn't work;
forum.xda-developers.com
Or is there any possibility to recover it through the "factory data reset" menu?
Big thanks to anyone ready to provide some support!
EDIT: Nvm, sorry for "spam".
After trying over and over again I could get the phone into EDL mode. I then could fix the phone via LG Bridge. Will try my previous steps again with a older TWRP version (this seems to be the solution to my first problem)
