So I recently replaced my cracked screen (for the second time. Had installed a duplicate screen before as well) and since then my Moto Display feature isn't working
The 'Approach display' feature works but I cannot press the lock icon or the notification icon after that!
Things I tried:
- Restarting the phone
- Clearing Moto app cache
- Switching the flips on and off
I'm running stock Nougat.

I took on the OTA 6.0 update a few days ago. My Moto X is not rooted and the boot loader is not unlocked. It is completely stock and on the AT&T network. Before the update I could reliably use the chop method to turn the flashlight on, but after the update I can not get it to activate. I verified the option is on in the "Moto" application, but my wrist now hurts from trying a variety of chopping and shaking motions.
I also don't see a flashlight/torch icon in the the notification pulldown quick settings. It is driving me nuts. Has anyone else seen this after installing the update?
Working fine here.

Works the same as loli for me
Do you have the ability to turn on the flashlight from the quick setting in the notification panel?

I have the same issue as you, but I do have the flashlight icon on the quick settings. Curiously, twist to turn camera on works.
I think I would be ok with the chop not working if I could find a way to turn it on without downloading a 3rd party app.

Did you check through SystemUI tuner if the tile can be added back? If not, have you tried to use Custom Quick Settings app on the PlayStore to manually add the tile back to quick settings?
I rebooted the phone, and now it is there in the notification quick panel and the chop is working. That was driving me crazy.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Suppose Take the App Called Moon Plus Reader. It's a Text Reader for Android and it always opens in immersive mode I.e the taskbar at the bottom gets auto hidden. We can get it to show itself by Swiping up from the fingerprint sensor. But after the Nougat Update, the feature is seemed to be disabled. Is the feature entirely removed or can it be enabled from any setting?
Coming from a moto x pure. Had moto display set up to light the screen when the device was picked up. Also, any notifications would appear here and a swipe up would open right into the respective app.
With the a7 we get a notification light and fingerprint reader. I'm trying to wrap my head around how to efficiently open notifications without a number of taps. Device is rooted with xposed installed.
So far the best I could come up with was to remap the finger print reader to open the notification bar. This means one tap to unlock, and 1/2 sec or later a second tap to open the notifications. Quickly double tapping doesn't seem to work.
Is there a more elegant solution?
Not sure how well it works with the FP sensor, but AcDisplay is a great alternative.

Thanks. Looking for something more recent. That app hasn't been updated in over a year (11/2015).
How are others dealing with notifications on this phone?
Works great on lineage.
I'm not ready to switch to lineage yet. Also, lack of xposed will mean other solutions to modules like gravity box will have to be found.
It's ironic, when I first got the moto x, I was annoyed at the moto display. After some tweaking, I got it to where the screen only lights up when the device is picked up. Notifications can be somewhat manipulated from this state.
It looks like I'll have to relearn notification usage on the a7.
I use KinScreen to automatically turn on the screen when I open the flip case (uses proximity sensor).
Best thing ever.
I have a Moto X Style running stock Nougat.
I installed the Moto Display mentioned here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/themes/apk-moto-display-moto-x4-t3682701/page9
And it worked well too, barring the reduced battery life.
So went to Settings -> Apps -> Moto Display. Clicked the ellipsis on the top right and uninstalled the updates.
It returned to the stock lock screen but now I don't see any notifications there. Cleared the cache of the Moto app and restarted the phone as well. Still no go.
I tried getting the Moto Display v3.27 APK from the internet and install it. But the APK wouldn't install for some reason. "The package appears to be corrupt" it says.
Anyone has any pointers?
With our nice AMOLED displays it seems a shame that there's no Ambient Display in our ASUS ROMs. My previous phone had Lineage on it which added it and I've gotten way too used to it.
Does anyone use and recommend any third-party apps to do the same?
I have used Glance Plus which is by default meant for always-on like later Samsung models but I changed the settings so it just comes on with proximity wake (and taking out of pocket) and incoming notifications. Seems good except sometimes the display won't turn off which is not good so I've uninstalled.
I know there's a lot of similar apps available but figured I'd check here first if someone has already tried a few.
In the meantime I'm using Gravity Screen (for the proximity/pocket wake) and Glimpse Notifications for waking on notifications (this app should also do prox wake too but I find Gravity more effective) but it's not the same.
It's not the same thing, but the Zoom does support double tap to wake to see notifications without unlocking.
