Custom kernel is gone after flashing a rom

Why is it that I have to reflash a custom kernel every time I flash the newest build of a rom?
Any time you flash a custom ROM, it will always include some kernel along with it. Hence, when you flash the newest build of a rom, you're also re-flashing the original kernel that it came with.

I see. Thanks! So I pretty much gotta flash my own custom kernel every time then?
As far as I know yes. There could possible be some way of flashing without the kernel, but I think it's much safer to just flash the whole custom ROM and then re-flashing your own custom kernel.
Yeah the easiest thing to do is just install the ROM with its kernel then just flash your kernel of choice.

Want to change my kernel without wiping?

I'm currently on Franco Kernel but want to change to ElementalX kernel.
I've read that you can't just install the new kernel over the old kernel is that true?
Will I need to do wipe my device in order to install?
It's recommended to dirty flash stock or your rom, depending on what you use. No need to wipe anything.

Flash a stock boot.img (which is the stock kernel) first then flash SuperSU if you want root, then flash elemental.

Bootloop OOS 3.0.2 / Boeffla 2.1 Beta 1 / SuperSU 2.74

Hi,
So i've been running OOS 3.0.2 Boeffla 2.0 and Super Su 2.74 without issues.
This morning I tried to flash Boeffla 2.1 Beta 1.
I followed steps from http://boeffla-kernel.de/index.php/69-new-concept-kernels-new-app as prescribed by @Lord Boeffla
flash rom
flash kernel
flash supersu (if required by your rom)
let it boot
enjoy

Unfortunately, the device stays on the OOS boot animation for ever.
The minute I flash back the stable kernel all is good in the world.
Any ideas on what could be causing the issue ?
Thanks
Couple of things:
Did you reflash the rom? If so, dirty or clean?
If dirty, did you wipe caches?
If clean, try reflashing OOS3 modded version of SU. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424944601

This is typically the case when SuperSu does not install in systemless mode.
You need a patched supersu version for OOS. Did you use that?
Hi,
Thanks for the answer. No I used the latest beta. Why does it work with the old kernel and not the new one?

From Oreo back to Nougat?

I'm on SuperXE 8.0 Oreo ROM with latest Franco kernel and I'm curious if down grading is as simple as full wipe, flash Nougat vendor, flash ROM, Gapps, Kernel, root?

Should be yes. If the sensors do not work properly then you'll have to wipe the entire phone.

Hello!
I'm currently using pixel experience with predator kernel and magisk v23.
Today i installed an update to the rom but i noticed that not only i lost my root acess but it also reset to the default rom's kernel.

Update rom, kernel and then magisk in recovery without wipe something, then reboot. You flash only the rom over OTA.
