OneClickRoot team has cracked S8 G950U Snapdragon OREO CRB9 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Looks like the OneClickRoot team has cracked S8 G950U OREO (G950USQU2CRB9).
Anyone have details? Knox tripped? 80% charge limit? Data Wipe?
RandyO

where did you see that at?

Have you got a link/source (other than the oneclickroot guys themselves).

This does not belong in the development section as it is not even confirmed but anyone and seems as if you are asking more than stating

Hi,
I contacted them and asked a few questions.
I asked if they managed to root the G950U on oreo (G950USQU2CRB9) Their response was:
"We can root the device. Just a heads up that the device will be downgraded to 7.1.1 in order to root it."
So most likely this uses the same way we root now.
Next I asked about the if the bootloader could be unlocked and got this as a response:
"Upon checking, we can only root the device. I am sorry, we can't unlock the bootloader of the device. Installing Custom ROM on the device is not possible."
There's your answer^

I figured there was a catch. I have downloaded G950USQS2BQL1 (took almost 2 hrs) . Is that 7.1.1 (Nougat)? I have not rooted a Samsung S8 before. What is ODEN? Where can I get it?

Everything you need to know about rooting the s8 can be found here:

Also before posting questions in that thread be sure to use the search and make sure it hasn't been answered before (most likely it has)

Noob needs help Rooting his phone

Hello,
I my first smart phone was the galaxy s4. I rooted that one with no problem after only researching for a couple hours and following simple YouTube tutorials, but that phone has lived too long.
I have recently gotten a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 5 model number SM-N920P. It is running stock Android 6.01. I would like to root my phone to have the full access i once had to full back ups, easy controller support etc. I have looked around for a few days now and can not find a tutorial to root with the sprint variant on the newest OS. Most are on Lollipop and I read a lot of people bricking their phones. Any help would be appreciated.
Does the phone have a locked bootloader? If yes, this may be why there is no root method yet for MM.

Yes the bootloader is locked. It is a new phone. Have only had it for a couple of weeks. So Im out of luck? I cannt root my device.
Doesn't look like an exploit is available at the moment.

S7 edge (SM-G935P) rootable?

Update: There's still no clear answer on this. What's the difference in what Chainfire says is impossible, vs, what people are doing in colormedroid's SM-G935P Root thread?
I've been reading all day and I've still no confirmation on this: Is the S7 Edge (SM-G935P) still unrootable as of Sept. 2017?
Thank you
Following up for the long-weekend.
Searching and searching and finding:
This post from May of 2017 says the device is not rootable without disabling encryption:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72204306&postcount=978
This post from July of 2016 has very clear steps for rooting the SM-935P (snapdragon, even):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/root-t3410424
What is the difference? Is it just that this process involves the disabling of encryption as Chainfire mentioned in his later post? Is root possible on the snapdragon variant of the s7 edge? I see dozens of posts from people who claim to have successfully rooted, and then entire articles at a later date by renowned developers who say "nope".
This might be a pain for people to continually answer these basic questions, but I've been reading for hours and have no better confirmation one way or the other.
Thanks for your time.
Bonus question-
Many posts report no custom recovery because of the locked bootloader on the s7 edge devices, however the LineageOS installation instructs the user to use Heimdall to install TWRP-
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/hero2lte/install
How the what now?

I have not yet tried. I picked up an S7 friday, having seen posts about successful root/twrp/lineageOS. I followed the Lineage steps as far as setting up Heimdall, installing libusb drivers, and connecting the device, but found the conflicting information about the process before I attempted to flash TWRP.
I stopped everything after that point, because if I can't get root/twrp/etc, it's going back to the store.
It's the second (and last) Samsung I'll be returning. I already returned a J7 because it wasn't supported either. I don't have time to follow the scene as closely as I did before, and wasn't aware how bad the situation was for device ownership these days.
It is bad but I'm fine with how it is to be honest
All I want to do is be able to install zero camera mod. Pissing me off that I can't
I believe the difference that I've been failing to get an answer for regarding the rooting of some snapdragon-model S7 Edges, is that the device compatible with TWRP and Lineage OS are the chinese-only variants, known as hero2ltechn (which I'm probably misspelling, but I can't even find it via a google search now to check).
I'm still not even sure if that's accurate. This is after hours of reading and having to draw my own conclusions. Tons of wasted time, and wasted money (returned the S7 to the store this morning, albeit for a restock fee and nonrefundable connection charge). Very frustrating and sad!

Worth it to root Sprint s7 Edge at this point?

Hey guys, just looking for some opinions here on whether or not people think it's worth it to root the s7 Edge right now. I just picked one up and it has MM and binary 4 on it, so I figure I need to decide if I want to root it before taking any updates. Does the official oreo seem decent? Is there any way to make touchwiz feel less touchwiz-y without root? Thanks!
I would advise to not update to any build after october 2017 if you plan on switching between carriers other than sprint as sprint is the only carrier to have updated the bootloader to 5 and many seem to believe the others won't. rooting is possible either way.
Thanks, so downgrading the bootloader is not possible once it's been updated even with root? I see on sammobile that there are several 935U firmware versions for sprint that are 7.0 but have binary 4, are these viable options? I do have a gear S3 so i would like to not lose samsung pay/S-Health, that still happens when rooted right?

Correct, once you update to any G935P firmware QJ3 or above you will be stuck unable to install any other firmware and unable to downgrade whatsoever, even with root...Trust me i'm stuck in this particular issue atm as I obtained this parts phone with the sprint motherboard that had QJ3 firmware with the bootloader 5 on it and now am unable to use it on my verizon account leaving me with having to obtain another motherboard. the 935U firmwares are completely viable options, they are just debloated and come without carrier modifications, If you need any assistance with anyting further i'd be glad to help, i don't proclaim to be a pro, but after months of research and trails on the G935P I've learned quite a bit on the do's and don'ts lol.
You are awesome, thank you! Are the roms posted in the general s7 edge section working for the sprint variant? The specific forum for the G935P is very dead. Im just weighing pros and cons of rooting, if there are good roms that improve performance and battery life available and magisk is working I think it'd be worth it to root for me

I would look more into the roms listed under verizon and at&t variants of the S7E, they are more active and most roms are made with multi-carrier support...they will say in the installation guides, but the ones listed in the general forums are mainly for the international versions if i'm not mistaken.
Also, check the forums for the S7 Flat version as they seem to be more active and most of the guides/roms apply to both variants, also confirm that in their respective guides.
I just checked for updates on my SMG930P today and it looks as if Sprint is now binary 6!? Hopefully this is a hint that the rest are moving to binary 5 for Oreo. I'm going to wait on this update just in case. G930PVPU6BRD2 is the latest update that just popped up for me.
I just wanted to verify if I flash G935UUEU4BRD1 Firmware I will still be on binary 4 which will allow me to switch carries and achieve root? Is sammobile the only reputable resource for these firmwares? Seems like they charge a bit much. Thanks guys

Root for the Samung Galaxy S10 5G

Hey all, I have successfully achieved root on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G SM-G977B. The process was simple due to it being the same process as topjohnwu already published. This is the official page for the instructions by topjohnwu which do work: topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root. If you struggle at any point feel free to reply and I will help where I can.
Currently TWRP doesn't work but I am spending time attempting to port it over. I am in no way an advanced developer but technology is my passion. So if I am successful and another developer hasn't already ported one over I'll be happy to post, but expect bugs. Due to this my device is currently unrooted but I can quickly root it and add pictures to prove .
Happy Rooting!.
Verizon Locked?
Are you in the US? The only way to currently buy it is through Samsung/Verizon and I am worried it may be locked to Verizon. Will that cause any issues in terms of rooting?

The US version of the Galaxy S10 5G Model is snapdragon 855 SM G977U and from a bit of search you won't be able to root
If you want to root your phone your going to need an Exynos version SM G977N Unlocked & SM G977B of the Galaxy S10 5G which he has above
Your going to have to wait until someone sells a unlocked version of the snapdragon even then don't know if you can still root

I'm new to this but does rooting depend on the phone being carrier unlocked? Or by "unlocked" you mean bootloader unlocked?

Hey all, a proper guide with all the information will be posted soon in the meantime I am working on TWRP and will post updates on how I'm doing. If any developers want to potentially lend a hand then feel free to PM me or email me.

Currently I can successfully boot into TWRP by flashing a custom modified built using the s10+ device tree as a base with modifications to fit the s10 5g.
TWRP seems to work perfectly, and it seems that the current issue is all the security measures Samsung put in place. I have attempted modifying the multidisabler just by adding my version to the support list but while I do get further then without it. I still get stuck on Samsung logo before a reboot. And based in my limited knowledge on the script and also looking through the files as root previously it seems Samsung has changed a few files around. So that is were I am at.
Latest update: I am now working with ianmacd (the current maintainer of Unnofficial TWRP for the s10/+/e) to bring youse and myself a working twrp for our devices!, according to my observations and Ian's observations when building a custom kernel that the s10 5g is more different than the s10/+/e range so please be patient while me an Ian work on this. Based on everything he will now be the lead developer and I'll be the tester gathering all required files. I doubt my work will be used but it was fun experimenting with it and who knows maybe it could help. I'll continue to post updates

Hey there! Do you have any updates on this? I just received my new S10 5G today (coming from G975).
I saw @ianmacd mention this variant on his G97x TWRP thread... is it already working? Safe to patch AP with Magisk? What about the multidisabler?
Thanks mate!
I just seen that Sprint's US 5g ver has a boot loader that can be unlocked. I just checked on my fully updated Sprint 5g the setting is there. One step closer to root?
guys
do you know if exynos 5G will give 5G signal on tmobile ?
i want the 5G model
Any progress?
There seems to be a lack of progress in the recent days.
How are we going with it?
I am trying to make a rooting solution as I type this.

I'm actually considering purchasing this phone since I find out it's bootloader can be unlocked and there's root possibility.. I really hope it can be done.

most people dont have the phone
and the root right now is for the B model which is going for 1500 on ebay
while the N model can be found for 700
N model needs root so badly
i want the 5G but due to lack of support i can't buy it
keeping the s10+ for now

Hey all, sorry for my lack in response. I'll post a post up shortly describing the current situation. Wish you all well.
God damn it, he managed to escape us for 3 months this time with out answering to our hails!
MarshiMello you fluffy white sugary softy! My husband has a very "similar" perhaps exactly the same perception of the word "SHORTLY" us Samsungites are onto you!.
Hello everybody,
I have an SM-G977B and I followed the root guide in the top of this thread.
Arrived at "Unlocking Bootloader" => "Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader." in download mode that option is not in the list and pressing volume up nothing happens.
By skipping that step with Odin I can only load original roms without the root.
How do I get the option to unlock the bootloader in the download mode menu?
Excuse me for the bad English,
best regards.

Mostly, I think, except that you may need a paid service to unlock your BL to get the ball rolling - Pls check this forum's relevant threads for further info on this aspect.
(I have N9860 SnapDragon variant; I cannot comment specifically about N986U.)

It doesn't apply to U/U1 devices. You have to use a paid unlock service, bit if you're already on bootloader 2, there's no way to root currently.
