Customer forgot his pin and wants to save the data. (I know I can factory reset). I tried flashing twrp but it failed due to oem lock. I know i can remove the password once i have root, just wondering if its possible to turn off oem unlock without the password. Just to reiterate customer really wants the data.

Hi,
I was changing pattern. Somehow I applied wrong pattern and then locked phone.
Now I can't unlock with fingerprint. There aren't any connect Google Account button even I am connected to internet mobile + wifi.
I didn't install TWRP and my phone is not rooted. Are there any way to unlock without losing any data? I can do anything possible (like root or install twrp) if I wont lose data.
wont a hard reset work
Without TWRP you can't do much...

That will delete data.
Unfortunately, hard reset is the only way out of this. Since the data on the phone is encrypted, you require the pattern to decrypt the data in order to access it. This also includes access to the hash that is generated by your fingerprints which is why you need to enter your PIN or pattern on startup before you can unlock with your fingerprint.
Bottom line, never ever forget your backup authentication method!
Edit: I can't guarantee this will work, but it's worth a try:
Visit https://www.google.com/android/find (Find My Device)
Log in with your Google account
Click "Lock" and enter a new password.
Try that new password on your phone.

Hi Guys,
my MOthers new Xiaomi MI A1 was stolen this week.
1. Now my Question, is it possible for the Thief to get on her Data?
Theroretically not, because the phone was on last official android update 7.1.1 (nov sec patch)
Phone was saved with a Fingerprint and PIN and ohone was encrypted.
2. Is it possible for the Thief to hard reset the phone via adb or fastboot to got a use for the phone (resell etc)
Thanks
Even if he would format it, the phone will ask to log into Google account of the user that was logged in before formatting. I doubt the thief is smart enough to bypass it.
1. did you enable "require pin/password for phone startup"? If yes, there is probably no way to decrypt the data without the PIN. If no, thief could unlock the bootloader (Xiaomi is the only phone I know which doesn't perform factory reset for this action) and use the default encryption password to mount the data partition in TWRP.
2. factory reset will trigger FRP, but it's probably quite easy to bypass it with a bit of patience.

Yes PIN was set on startup.
" If no, thief could unlock the bootloader (Xiaomi is the only phone I know which doesn't perform factory reset for this action) and use the default encryption password to mount the data partition in TWRP. "
How can he unlock the bootloader? I think he need DEV options and OEM unlock enabled, right?
Consider: There is no MIUI on the phone, its a Android One Phone.

You are right, I forgot about OEM unlock option (I enable it by default for all my devices). In this case, data should be safe.
My phone is unlocked but OEM Unlock was disabled in Developer Options... So I think is not a problem having that option disabled.

Try to erase using 'Google Find My Device' i think you can erase the phone using that, also you can know locations where the Device right now.
Just try, Good Luck :good:
Hit 'Thanks' if helped. ASAP
I am fairly certain there would be ways to circumvent the google account verification using fastboot commands and MiFlash. It takes some work and patience, but it should work.
However, as far as I know there are ways to get the IMEIs of the device blocked by carriers when reporting the device stolen. Not entirley sure what needs to be done to do this, but this would render the device useless for the thief.

Imei blocking is not really gonna help. It's too easy to change.
Yes there are ways around everything in this thread and tuts to do it are only a search away. Heck we host most of the tutorials right here.
So my friend has this device, so he locked his device with a pattern lock and didn't set his fingerprint...and now he forgot his pattern i don't know how...now he needs to unlock his phone and doesn't want his data to be deleted i.e he doesn't want to factory reset... Can anyone help with this issue?
Any help will be appreciated.
Not sure if it's true for pattern as well, but with Fingerprint, you need to enter a pin after reboot.
With other words, after re-boot you do not need a fingerprint.
You can always re-install the FW with MiFlash-Tool and click 'preserve data'
This takes 10 minutes or so ...
This might help.

But if it's updated to May unlocking the bootloader will wipe the data.
Hi,
I tried to change the pattern of my device, it seems that I didn't set what I thought and now that I restarted my system, the device (Android 7) is asking my for a pattern to let me turn it on, that I don't know.
Of course I'm the owner from this device, with my Google account and everything but I made a misstake and I don't know how to fix it.
What are my options now?, Should I restart the device with recovery options, wiping data user and that or what do I need to do?
Regards in advance.
Do you by any chance have TWRP installed? If so, there are certain files you can delete to remove the pattern.
Try it enough times and it should offer to unlock another way, then use your Google account.
And don't use pattern unlock... PIN an fingerprint are fine.
Hey guys
Im in a bit of a trouble.
Sitting in front of my dads phone trying to unlock it.
Cant ask my dad anymore. He died few days ago. To get access to his password safe i really need to unlock the phone. He stored all of his onlinebanking accounts, insurance data and stuff there. Need to pays all his debts but i have no clue about what to pay and what is paid.
Already found his secret note about the master password of keepass but not the unlock pattern.
Factory reset is of course not an option.
Any chance that i can skip the pattern and unlock it with the PIN?
Its also still connected to his google account if this would help.
Bootloader locked, no root, no twrp.
Found a thread from 2013 that says i can boot to twrp without flashing to delete the pin data but im not sure if it works on this one.
Can you access your dad Google account from a computer? if so, you can use Google Device Manager to remove the PIN/password of the device, but I'm not sure if doing this will erase the data. Also, you should contact Google for a solution, considering that isn't unauthorized access, and have a good reason behind. There is a form to contact them. Sorry for your loss.
Hi,
Thank you for your condolences.
I tried to lock the phone but it wont let me change the password.
There is a message. You already have a screenlock on the phone so it wont be changed.
The link you gave me also only let me get access to the account but not the phone.
Any other ideas how to get access?
