Android Auto issues? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Anyone have problems with Android Auto? It worked fine for a while, but in the past few weeks...it's been a real hit or miss. It basically crashes the AA in my GTI. The AA screen will lock up and turn black if I unplug it.
It works perfectly fine my older phone.

I am using Android Auto V2.9 for quite some time, with no problem.
(it's V2.9 ecause I am using some special apps, which don't work with higher versions)
Did you check the cable?

I did a reset on the phone. So far it's been working. Phone has been running kind of strange in general. The factory reset seems to have made a difference.
Thanks for the reply.

My android auto just stopped working in the middle of the road (on Android 8.0) in April 2018 and now I cant start it in any car with Android Auto support.
Any ideas? Reset the phone did not work. I reset it on Android 8.0 update, and after flashing latest 8.1.
I'm using latest app from apk mirror, because Android Auto is not listed in Google Play in my region.
My buddy Mi 6 is working fine with all cars.

Android Wear issue with Android 6.0

I updated my OnePlus One to Android 6.0 and I've encoutered an issue with the two ROMs I tried (Ressurection Remix and AICP).
When I want to pair my watch, the app on the phone freezes, and the only thing I can do is forcing the reboot by pushing the on/off button during 10 seconds.
So my watch is unusable as long as Wear app won't work properly.
Has anyone encoutered this issue ?
Thanks.

Android wear & MM

Hi
This is really a warning to anyone who has an Android wear (or probably any other kind of smartwatch)
My Gear LIve and LG Watch R worked perfectly with KK and Lollipop but with MM 522 it just would not work properly at all
i worked with a dev of one of the apps and it was only the Huawei with MM that caused any problems and notifications were just not getting to the watch
MM on a samsung worked no trouble and going back to 5.1.1 on the M7 again worked perfect
I liked MM but i didnt see that much difference to being worth keeping without the watch
So if you are planning on Upgrading and have a smartwatch then you will have issues
I am now back on 5.1.1 and rooted and all works fine
I have Asus ZenWatch 2 and it works with B522 properly. Only issue I have noticed is infrequent unconnecting, about twice a week. But I just run Android Wear app and watch is connected again.
I must admit I'm surprised that's is working OK for you add the tests we got when trying to resolve the issues were all down to huawei and the non standard calls they make and the permissions issues that were occurring
The doze feature in mm seemed to be conflicting with huawei's own features and stopping a lot of the notifications getting through even though those apps were set to protected.
It also seemed to be an issue with 1 app calling another appointment and again even though that permission was granted it still gave us issues.
But I suppose in the end every setup is different and in all honesty I don't think mm was a great step up grim lollipop anyway or at least not on the huawei
Sent from my SM-N920C using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have a Samsung Gear S2 Classic and since I installed MM on my MT7-L09, Samsung Gear app will not not load, it just opens and closes in a flash.
The only way to make it work is to switch off the Bluetooth on the phone, then open the Samsung Gear App, and press connect from the app. This will switch the Bluetooth back on, connects to the watch and the app works.
Weird and very frustrating until I figured out a workaround!

I have a moto 360 2nd gen and works with no issues what so ever with MM, if anything it has become more reliable so it may just be a conflict with particular manufacturers?

I've got the first gen Moto 360. when I updated to MM my watch at didn't receive any notifications (even the test ones). I did a factory reset and everything works fine now. The only issue I have is that sometimes the Gmail app pushes a ton of notifications for the same email.

Bluetooth suddenly not working

Hey guys, recently got an Android head unit for my 2008 GTI, and while it was working well enough for the first couple days, today the bluetooth suddenly stopped seeing any device. Nothing shows up in the bluetooth menu and it just searches endlessly. I did a factory reset, and surprisingly it not only fixed the bluetooth issue, some other stuff started working like the car info app. But the fix was short lived as later in the day the bluetooth issue came back, not able to detect anything.
I have done as much searching as I could, but it is difficult with how fragmented these Chinese units are, and how they are so similar but slightly different. I have read that it may be possible to flash different MCU versions but would like confirmation before i try anything. Here is all the info I can get about mine, first this is the one I bought:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XY2C1WC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Model: px3 (1024x600)
Android Version 7.1.2
Kernel version: 3.0.101+
MCU Version: MTCD_ZYC_v2.55_1 June 23 2017
CPU Arm Cortex A9
Any help would be appreciated, I got Android Auto working and its awesome, but not having bluetooth for calls is a deal breaker for me...
I messed with the stereo tonight and got the bluetooth working again by simply pressing the small reset button that seemed to actually power cycle the device. I also decided to disable the backup camera mode as I dont plan on installing the camera any time soon, so I cut the wire labeled backup and that seemed to do the trick as now when it is put in reverse, it doesnt load up that blank screen. Strangely enough though, when using Android Auto through Headunit Reloaded, it still went blank when put into reverse, like it can still tell. And when the video comes back it had artifacts all over the screen, but only in that program.

You only had to go to factory settings and set no reverse camera without cutting anything

I looked through the factory settings and could not find anything related to the backup camera

Android Auto full of bugs. Any solutions?

Hi,
first of all, I love my Mi 9t. But I'm using android auto everyday and it is still full of bugs. First to paint a picture of my setup:
-Mi 9t Global 11.0.6.0
-Car: Skoda Fabia 2019, tried different USB Cables, everything works perfect with a Samsung Galaxy S9
List of Bugs:
1. Crashing of Media apps after disconnecting Android Auto
After disconnecting Android Auto the active media app crashes. I have to completly restart the app. Doesn't matter if using a podcast app like "antenna pod" or "podcast addicted" or "sportify". All of them are crashing.
2. Can not start media apps inside Android Auto
If the phone is connected to a car I'm not able to start any media app by using the cars display. There is just a message saying that the app isn't avaible at the moment. I have to pickup the phone and start the app directly on the phone.
3. Spontaneous crashes of Android Auto
Sometimes Android Auto just crashes out of nowhere. It automatically restarts after a few seconds, but after that I have to restart the media app by picking up the phone. (see bug number 2 and 1). It happens more frequently during calls.
4. Android Auto is lagy
It's not a bug, but in comparision to the Samsung Galaxy S9 Android Auto is a bit more lagy. It's not unusable but every command needs a few more moments then on the galaxy S9.
I tried different things to solve these problems. Using different usb cables, trying different media apps, changing the energy saving settings. Nothing helps so far.
These bugs are very annoying, therefore I thinking about using a custom rom or switchting to another brand. I got my Mi9t for a year now and these bugs are still not fixed. Some of them can lead to dangerous situations, because I have to pickup the phone during driving.
Does anybody having any ideas what else I can try. I don't want to do a factory reset now, because all the work I have to do setup the phone again. Does anybody else have similar problems?
Thank you all
Sorry, I am using Android Auto with Havoc 3.6 in an Audi Q3 and I don't have any of the issues. Works nice, no lag or crashes.
I even use AA Mirrow to get the TomTom app on my car's screen. Works most of the time as well.
I know this is not helpful, but just saying it's not the phone`s fault.
Thank you for your help. Now I have at least a recommendation for another rom I can try.

If you are going to try another ROM then you need to backup your data.
I would suggest you try the xiaomi.eu MIUI 12.1 weekly ROM. I have been using it for well over a month now and it is relatively stable, almost completely ad-free, and it also includes the latest security updates for Android 10.
update firmware of your car's multimedia. I use AA everyday with lineage, but I have had miltiple ROMs without an issue

EONON Android Auto phone reboots

I had Android Auto working since summer and in the last week whenever I plug in my andoid 10 phone it reboots. I also tried a different phone that worked before and it also reboots.
Phones tested:
- Oneplus 7t rooted AOSiP Jan 07 2021 ROM (Worked fine with this rom before)
- Google Pixel 3a Android 11 stock no root. (web page says compatible with up to Android 10 but this phone also worked fine before)
More info:
- Eonon A0585 dongle
- Android 10
- Android Auto version 6.0.615334
- tried different USB cables
Next thing im gonna try is re-install eplay because it doesnt show change log so maybe they've updated it with a fix? I dont remember if I initially install "Autoplay" but will give that a try.
I have emailed support so will wait on there response.
Edit: Jan 31
EONON Response:
In addition, we are also rushing to update the A0585 software. If the A0585 software is updated, it will be released as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Also from another thread someone else got a similar response. They're pretty much going to come out with an update for Eplay.

So I've been using @tribalfs suggestion and its been working fine.
Uninstalled Chrome update from Google Play Store. Also disabled updates.
Current Chrome:
- Feb 04
- version: 88.0.4324.152
Eonon also emailed me with this link/fix which I havent tried as downgrading chrome worked for me.
Same here. Keeps rebooting both my galaxy note 20 ultra and note 10+.
Update: Uninstalling/downgrading google chrome app in phones fixed the issue on mine
This is awesome and looks promisiing. Will downgrade Google Chrome and see if Android Auto starts working, thanks.

I can confirm the Chrome fix. I was able to make mine work by disabling the Chrome app entirely. I didn't use Chrome anyway so doesn't hurt me.
I tried disabling Chrome on both my phone and the head unit. Android Auto still does not work. Eonon sent me a link to update the firmware. The updated firmware does not cause boot loops but AA still does not work. Any other ideas?
I have USB debugging enabled and AA installed on my phone.

I would enable Chrome on both and go into Playstore to uninstall update for chrome. Thats how I did it and its been working fine.
Also make sure to disable auto updates. If it helps Chrome on my phone is from
