Good Rom and Kernel for Nexus 7 2012 (wifi)? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got rid of most of my Android devices, and the Nexus 7 is only what I have currently left.
So i digged it out and was wondering what ROM and Kernel I could use to make this tablet usable for newer apps that are on Play Store.
I know there is the M-Kernel which I used before, but what ROM and Kernel is currently recommended to get this tablet as up2date as possible with a decent performance?
I'm currently running Stock 4.4.4 as I noticed that 5.1 is kinda slower..
Thanks!

Resurrection Remix 7.1.2
I've been using this unofficial Resurrection Remix ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/rom-resurrection-remix-5-8-0-nexus-7-t3537968 . Booting the Nexus takes a while but runs pretty smoothly afterwards when using a few apps.
I use the Nexus these days to read, message, and as a workout timer. I can accomplish these things on this ROM.

Recommend a stable and speedy ROM for someone who doesn't want to mess around.

Stock 5.1.1 recently flashed onto my n7 2012 after a while of not playing around with all the custom ROMs. About a year because my Nexus 5 took over as daily driver.
Now I'd like to use it again, what ROM would you suggest that is the most stable and fastest? No need for the extra frills.
I was on 5.1.1 stock and was desperate.... then I tried couple or ROMs luckily one of them was Chroma. It is not as fast as 4.4.4 but ALMOST as fast. I also use M kernel and that way I can overclock a bit. Really, it is not as fast as 4.4.4, only a BIT slower sometimes, I will not lie or exaggerate, but it makes N7 usable again! I dunno about other ROMS, tried Cyanogenmod and it wasn't stable. THen I found Chroma, and I never changed. Really stable and fast. Also supports LAYERS, so you can customize if you're into that....

[Q] Latest flashable stock rom

Hello,
I am handing over my Nexus 4 to the wife to use. It is unlocked, with twrp ready and running.
Can someone advise on the latest flashable stock rom, anything that is bells and whistles free, stable and with best battery life.
Any rom is fine, Lollipop probably is the best owing to stability. Like I said, not bothered about added goodies so long as the Nexus 4 runs well. Or else I'll be nagged to death!!
Thanks.
Fake Nexus ROM Marshmallow version?

[Q] Seeking specific rom

Hello
I've dug my old N4 for some use while my current device is in for a repair. Been a few years since I last used it. Madhi rom was the last one I flashed, oh yeah the good old days.
Can anyone suggest a stable and battery consistent rom that has status bar tweaks that allow the battery icon colour to be changed (or the icons individually)? I'd prefer Lollipop which is probably the most stable as I'd be using this as a daily driver and not looking for FCs every now and then!
Also would like the latest CM theme engine with the rom.
Resurrection Remix on my HTC fitted the bill, but does the N4 version have the same features, and the N4 version I found is Marshmallow based.
Apologies, I know these type of threads are not popular
Cm 12.1 is available for n4

Have Nougat roms stabilised enough to be useful as daily drivers without too many crashes? I appreciate the N4 is an antique these days and we're lucky enough to have Marshmallow, let alone Nougat!
Had a feeling battery would be poor on Nougat roms compared to Lollipop or even Kitkat? Thanks,
Nitrogen os rom is very stable best nougat rom chroma is best for marshmallow and I like cm12.1 for lollipop personally
Thanks for that, would you say they all offer similar battery life?
Yes I would say that

Looking for rom suggestion for Nexus 7 2012

Hi!
I'm pretty confused at the moment, there are so many roms and I don't know which one to chose. Right now I have CM 12.1 on my Nexus 7 2012, but it's very slow, even after a factory reset, so I would like to resurrect it. I read that the "best"? rom is the CM 11.2 one based on 4.4.4, but I can find it anywhere to download, since developing CM stopped.
It would be great if you could suggest a download link, or another rom which would be fast and fluent on the device. Or even a simple 4.4.4 rom if those are good.
Thanks very much in advance!
Official 4.4.4 will be the best choice, IMHO. Simple and effective solution. Factory Images for Nexus - https://developers.google.com/android/images
PS: Note, that if you install many Google Apps or applications actively working in the background and using a flash drive (eg, facebook, twitter, etc.) you will still experience lags. Unfortunately, it was not possible to completely remove the lags on any ROM
Thanks for the suggestion! I've flashed slimkat 9, it feels pretty good, but maybe I will try the stock 4.4.4.

There are a few pie options for this phone. I haven't tried any yet. Just read all the threads they all have descriptions of what is in the room. So you have to do some research to figure out what is best for you. And I can't stress this enough. Read read read the directions for installing. There are a few extra steps involved in flashing pie because of the change to the filesystem or encryption or something. Also there is a fix if your phone has experienced the boot loop issue.
Personally I am waiting for los 16 because I know it will be be stable not saying the others are not but los is just what I have been using and cm before that so that's where I am comfortable. Good luck and happy flashing
I'm running the Pixel Experience ROM on my Nexus 6P. It's a really good ROM and works great!
I have tried all Pie roms for 6P, and by far all of that works quite perfectly. There're still some minor bugs like Volte not working or Wifi hospot broken, but overall almost all Pie roms is solid enough for daily use. In my opinion, you can flash any of them, all are very good, but I prefer unofficial AOSiP Pie because it provides a lot of customizations.
