[Q] How do I flash Lineageos 14.1 to my g900f? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The device is currently running 4.4.2 (I downgraded to run towelroot, and want to achieve this without tripping knox)
Do I have to upgrade to stock Marshmellow, and then use flashfire to install LOS 14?
Many thanks.
Never mind, it worked the next time I tried it, but don't understand why. Tripped knox though :'(

It's not something that happens all the time but, can/may happen. The only time I would think that there's a real issue is if the same error is consistent.
Just an FYI... The following threads should be helpful for you in the future.
The following thread is the Official LineageOS thread for the klte variants.

The following thread is the Q&A thread that's specific to the klte variants.

root the updated galaxy s5

so I got a Galaxy s5 in august. The phone is awesome as is, but I really want it rooted. I tried towelroot, but that failed because my phone runs on kitkat 4.4.4. I then tried Odin3 v1.85 to attempt it. This didn't work either. What other things can I try?

Hello,
Generally rooting a samsung device is fairly generic. However before I suggest a method I need to know the model number and variant of it you're using. Some devices have locked bootloaders which may require a different method to avoid damaging the device.

[Q] Is there a warranty safe method for rooting SM-G900F?

Hello
Is there a warranty safe method for rooting SM-G900F? (Without tripping knox, voiding warranty etc.)
I don't want anything irreversible about warranty, knox etc.
If you're running Kitkat there are plenty of tutorials kicking about the forums, if you're running Lollipop, you'll need to downgrade first
I'm running KitKat but i don't know which KitKat build i must use to proper rooting. The tutorials aren't clear enough please redirect me.
If it's a build from before June 2014, you can root using Towelroot
If it's a build after June 2014, you'll need to either downgrade further, or flash a kernel from an earlier build, root, then flash your original kernel back again
Thanks for your great help. Is Towelroot only safe method for rooting or do we have any alternatives
I haven't heard of any others, but I've only had my S5 a couple months
Towelroot is just an app, so you can't really get much easier than that
https://towelroot.com/
Thank you so much for your answers You're very helpful @*Detection*. I'll use "towelroot" app.

SM-G900F firmware on a SM-G900H?

My father has a SM-G900H, which latest offical firmware update was long time ago.
I need to update his phone, and I wanted to know if I would be able to use the latest official SM-G900F from sammobile, and after flashing, reflashing the official latest kernel and modem for his specific variant.
Would it work?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately not...
The G900F has a Qualcom processor and the G900H has an Exynos processor. This does make a difference.
The only small possibility of this working is by Porting the Firmware but, I am not aware of any developments released for this because the G900F Firmware would have to be modified a bit to work for the G900H device.
If you want to ask further questions, regarding the GS5, then your best bet is to post it within the following, device specific, Q&A thread.

Thanks for your answer... you saved me from soft bricking my father's phone

does updating LineageOS supposed to un-root your phone?

I'm running an S5 (SM-G900W8) and I see it's no longer rooted. I assume that this happened the last time I did a LineageOS update. Is this normal?

I don't have this variant but, many individuals have to flash SuperSU again after updating an already installed LineageOS (also known as Dirty Flashing) because the update can undo what SuperSU does to Root the device but, I cannot be sure for the G900W8.
I would recommend/suggest that questions regarding the LineageOS for the G900W8 (klte) should be posted on the following Official LineageOS thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3476433
This way you can obtain member support/feedback from others with the same device and firmware (LineageOS).
Good Luck!
