Disable daily prompt to install Oreo? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

My phone downloaded the Oreo update (I was stupid and didn't disable OTA Update downloads before it rolled out). And I have heard nothing but problems with the update and don't feel like having my phone break. So how do I stop it from asking me to install it every day? When I choose install later the latest I can pick is 24 hours. The update is already download. I just keep refusing to let it install. I'd really appreciate some help!

I don't think you can now that you've downloaded it, I don't know about what you've heard but the latest firmware for the exynos version is very good, improvement on battery life is one of the stand outs, if you are snapdragon user then I can't really comment

Yeah I'm running snapdragon (verizon s8). After looking around I've seen a lot of people (not specifically snapdragon) complaining about severe decrease in SOT. I'm always anxious about updating my phone. I'm always afraid it's going to break and I have no warranty through Verizon. (I don't use contract service so they treat you like a second class citizen)

Same question here. I want to get rid of this notification. Any adb command that we can run to accomplish this on noughat stock?

Activate devolves settings and then turn off auto update setting and it will stop harassing you to update

Automatic update is already off in developer settings (its default btw)

Still nobody with a solution? I dont want the daily prompt to install Oreo....

Just fixed the problem. My solution:
You can remove the software update notification with a program called Package Disabler Pro (Samsung), from the app store and disable this: com.wssyncmldm

USA AT&T User with some questions for pros...

love everything about this phone, but before making the plunge I had a few questions.
1. I'm looking to get the L29 version. This is correct?
2. What is the notification issue I keep reading about? I read the forums but it doesn't seem concise. No notifications come up? some? does this effect one model over the other?
3. Is the audio jack volume high? on the Nexus 6p it's abysmally low.
4. Does this phone support MHL/HDMI out? i know there's Miracast and screen mirroring, but looking to use a cable if possible.
Thanks for your answers, really want this phone.
1 -Ideally, yes. Though either will work.
2 - Permissions and the "battery firewall" are messing with people. The device works much harder to keep the battery usage down than any device before it, so getting used to that takes a while, and people think it has "notifications issues" (Though I think there is one legit "issue" with whatsapp, but I dont use it)
3 - Has been by far good enough for me.
4 - Dont know, havent tried.
So do notifications not pop up? I read also about apps basically closing while in the background.

The way I understand it, one of the settings under the performance settings causes all background apps to close when the screen shuts off. You can fix this by whitelisting each app that you want to remain open. Like you, I have read other vague accounts in the forums and reviews about apps not staying in memory, but I don't know if they're talking about that or something similar to what the GS6 and Note 5 do with RAM management. I sincerely hope it's not the latter, as that's the whole reason I got rid of my Note 5.
As long as I can turn some of this off and make the phone behave more or less "normal", I'll be happy. My L29 arrives tomorrow.
As i said before in other Threads : NO NOTIFICATION ISSUES FOR ME SINCE B162 Update. (And yes i have whatsapp)

Is this a standard ota update? For which model if yes?
I flashed update from Thread here in XDA. L-29 3Gb.
Im not sure when it goes well... but i think it was B152.... B103 was annoying and there was defently a issue... but since B152... i think it works great.
I'm using L29 in Seattle with AT&T. I have no notification issues at all. My only issue is my Microsoft Band 2 doesn't always work. The audio jack volume seems perfectly normal to me when I last used it.

So, I received my L29 yesterday and set it up and played with it all day. I tested notifications and everything else I could think of. I have had no issues at all so far. The firmware I'm on is 103 and there are no updates when I check. Everything seems to be working as it should.
Reading the forums on here for several days before, I was expecting a hot mess. I actually kind of like Huawei's UI. It's different. I'm not even going to put Nova Launcher on this time.
I'm in Texas on AT&T LTE.
glad to see ure so happy with the setup

Just to add to the good review for AT&T. I have dual AT&T sims in this bad boy and enjoying it. Honetsly, the software has the best dual sim manager I have seen. Getting solid speeds. Getting used t EMUI is interesting.
Anyone know how to update to B156 from B103 on the L29? My OTA doesnt exsist.
yet. if ure still completely stock u should receive OTA updates at some point in the near future
I am stock. Waiting those 14 days to unlock the bootloader. Need coffee money!

Just want to give an update on my experience since receiving the phone..
First day was good, but I'm now seeing the notification issue. I have an L29 on B103. It seems to be mostly the email client I use (TypeMail or Blue Mail), but I tried stock Gmail and had the same issue. When the screen is off, I no longer get instant notifications. It seems like there's about a 5-6 minute delay before they come in, like the internet connection goes to sleep.
Yes I have turned off all battery optimizations for the apps and whitelisted them. I also set all of the notification options to "on". I have heard that rooting and disabling "phone manager" fixes this, but I'm not quite ready to take that plunge yet. There are no updates available for my device.

Thanks. Do you know what this update is supposed to fix/improve?
Edit: Scratch that, I see the update notes, but it seems the file you linked won't work. It's 1.4GB and says it's not compatible. I'm trying to do the incremental update to 153 now, but all of the links for the smaller update are broken for 160 on that thread.

All i know is that I downloaded one of the links he listed under the b160 and it had the update.app in it after you unzip... it is critical that you unzip and have the files inside the zip in the dload folder on your internal memory otherwise it won't work... I will try to post some pictures and maybe re-zip what i have and create a download link... when i get home from work

AT&T June Security Patch

Ever since I updated to the June Security Patch, I've been having a problem with the recents screen. Usually about once a day, it will state that there are no recent apps when I push the recents capacitive button. I have to reboot in order for any apps to appear in the recents screen again.
Anybody else have this problem? And more importantly, does anybody have a solution?
I'm having this problem. Just like you I noticed it after the June patch.
---------- Post added at 02:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:02 AM ----------
Forgot to mention. I haven't found a solution. I also have no idea how a security patch can affect the software. I haven't factory reset at all but maybe that could help. I also have no idea why this update came in a month late.
Haven't tried a factory reset either. I don't feel like going through that much work to set it up again. At least not yet. Perhaps the next security patch will fix this issue.

Nope, phone is rock solid after update.
Granted, it would take a few days to test for the issue you're having.
I noticed that this was more than just a security update. The file was half a gig. Also, there is a new useless AT&T app to set up and transfer settings and information between phones, and WiFi calling in quick settings.
But I also feel like the phone is slightly faster than before. Maybe it's all in my head, but it's really smooth right now.
Read some where that this latest update add wifi calling, can anybody check and see if the option is there? It's G930AUCU2APG1 for the S7, and G935AUCU2APG1 for the S7 Edge)

So does root work ?
For anybody interested, this update seems to have fixed the problem with the recents page.

I am having a terrible time with this update and looking for help. My original problem was web browser tabs constantly not loading and eventually the browsers would just crash. I used the default internet app, Chrome, Dolphin, UC broswer etc etc every single one had same problem. The phone is also freezing up at times and randomly restarting. So far I have
1. Wiped the cache partition
2. Did numerous factory resets
3. Took the phone to Best Buy and the Samsung tech reflashed my phone
4. I deleted all my synched google data
I am running out of options. I did have it working for about an hour and thought I was in the clear, but I logged into chrome and all the problems started again and I can not fix them this time. (This was the reason I deleted my google backup data). Samsung said to ship the phone to them, but I work maintenance in a nursing home and am call 24-7 most days and can not be without a phone for 2 weeks. I was hoping to either flash with an older version or at least be able to reflash myself with the new update. Any help would be appreciated.
I updated to the July update earlier this week. I'm now seeing issues with recent showing no recent apps, and my battery life is tanking. I used to get to about 30% at the end of the day and now I can't get through the day without charging. Also, Wifi calling is enabled but doesn't work...it says failure to register.

Try factory resetting. If that doesn't work there is a thread with the fw that you can restore to with Odin.

I used Odin to go back to the June patch and phone was working great. Like an idiot I thought well maybe the last time I tried to do the July update something got corrupted so I updated again and went to bed. Try out my phone this morning and back to the same issues I was having. I set the phone up as new as well so I did not transfer / back up apps and what not. For whatever reason my phone is not taking that July update. I do not get it.....

Software not updated to 25.11.10.en.US - Install deferred

I had been getting the update to Nougat message on Feb. 28th, but I decided I wanted to wait until "tomorrow" to do it. I went to bed. In the morning while I was still half asleep and trying to snooze my phone alarm I think I hit "something". Now in "System updates" my phone says "Software not updated to 25.11.10.en.US" and "Install deferred - March 01, 2017 at 7:37 AM." I did not intentionally defer my install at all, but guessing by the time I did something accidentally. When I go to "Check for system update" it says "Your device's software is up to date." So, now I can't update and I would really like to get Nougat on my Droid Turbo 2.
Please help. I would really like to get Nougat on here, but I don't want to have to resort to a factory reset.
Thanks in advance!
I'm not alone -
Mine reads:
Software not updated to 25.22.10 en. ...
Install deferred - February 28,2017.
It's either a major bug
OR VZW decided to 'throttle' the OTA rollout.
My guess is bug(s)
Install Deferred for 25.11.10 on Droid Turbo 2
I'm having the same issue. Have you seen any explanations out solutions?
Also, when I navigate to the Verizon update webpage for the Motorola Droid Turbo 2, it no longer lists the 25.11.10 update; it's simply gone. The most recent update listed is "24.31.22.kinzie_verizon.verizon.en.US". Is this the case for you, too?

How It works?
Any Issues?
Battery management?
Thanks
OK so i've downloaded the official MIUI rom, everything works fine except battery life gives me 6 hours of SoT, which is on par with other custom non MIUI roms but noticabley worse then MIUI 8.
Anyone faced that issue ?
on a side note, installation took alot of time so be patient.
Thanks for your reply, It help me so much!
I've decided to wait for the "official" OTA release, because maybe It cames with some battery improvements, because I don't understand why DOZE + MIUI battery management on Android 7 gives less SoT in the same device...
It is the same version your gonna get with ota it is the ota it says global stable miui 9
Yes, but perhaps they make an update before the OTA came to my mobile...in this case, I Will receive another packet (and everyone), maybe better, with battery improvements...i'm not hurry about It.
For me, is very important SoT results, because I work with the mobile outside home.
My SoT is on par with MiUi 8 for me ... its been pretty bug free so far more or less. Nothing wrong that I have encountered at the core level of the update. There are some minor nuance changes between 8 and 9.
Today i've received the OTA, I confirm that is the same packet that the one was filtered weeks ago, let's test It!!
Edit: 3g/4g connection Lost...i don't have data connection now with this update...
Anybody has the same issue?
Problem solved 2 hours later trying different options on SIM APN settings
The global 9.1.1.0 update is now showing as an OTA on my Mix updater.
Unfortunately it looks like it's the very same update from a couple weeks ago, which is reportedly causing problems with notifications and battery drain..
If you've installed it, how is it going? Problems?
I'd rather wait for the 9.1.2.0 update, already published on the miui site - but China rom only for now, no global version yet..

So you're receiving proper notifications (instant messaging, email, ...) after installing the 9.1 update?
That would be the main showstopper for me, and I see so many people around reporting those specific issues after the 9.1.1.0 update..

Probably the same issues that I have with epic pro, and the china miui ROMs. Have to go into permissions for each app and manually turn on modifications. Plus have to turn battery saver for each app off.

Samfail root success and workarounds

I wanted to start a thread in the AT&T forum for everyone to share there successes and workarounds after rooting with Samfail. I know there is a thread for the root process here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/development/root-samfail-galaxy-note8-t3685340 But i wanted this to be a place where we can share also what works for the AT&T phones.
I just rooted tonight, so far all i have done is disable the AT&T bootup sound but going to /system/omc/ATT/res/media/audio/ui and renaming PowerOn.ogg to read PowerOn.ogg.bak
As i figure out more things I'll keep updating the op.
Please feel free to share any tweaks you may know.

As I sure you've seen my complaining in the root thread -- My main issue is the inability to get full calling features
It is very weird from my perspective in that everything seems to provision properly. I can make WiFi Calls but if I turn Wifi off then try ot make a call the call Ends suddenly unless I turn Enhanced LTE services off. But the really weird thing is that I can make calls in the area near my work (it is a bit more remote than where live) and it does appear that the calls are being made VoLTE. So why would the network in one place allow the calls to go through but in another the calls suddenly end ??? I think the answer to this might be the clue to getting this issue fixed for AT&T users.
I know many of you don't need the full calling features but for me it is essential and I would go without root if I can't find a solution :crying::crying:

Yea i never video or WiFi call (ok maybe have yo WiFi call about 2 or 3 times a year) so losing those two things don't bother me. I've always turned off enhanced lte services since they introduced it simply because it drains more battery plus from what I've googled about it, it don't really pertain to anything i need. I am hopeful though that once people start to use this root method, we'll start to figuring out how to fix everything like normal.
I'm not really sure the purpose to use this root method, its not even really root to begin with. What are your plans with using this method? I mean there are a few fun things to do but not worth a unstable system and 80% battery.

Why do you say "it's not really root to begin with"? By doing this method you gain access to root files and to the heart of your phone. SuperSU installs and works, you are able to deodex, theme, modify all as you want if you know what your doing. Sure there are a few issues with it (battery limited to 80%, WiFi calling, and camera) but none of this will get fixed we work on finding out the issue, but root has always brought about some type of issue one way or another in locked bootloader devices. My plan with rooting my phone is to build my rom with the tweaks and mods that i like, run the ad blockers that i like, possibly install xposed (haven't used it in a while). One of the main purposes of root in my opinion is to make your phone the way you like it. I mean you can sit around and wait for someone to make the phone how they like it and then possibly share it with others or you can take the initiative to learn yourself. Not really root to begin with? It's root, just not how it used to be. I hope someone does figure out a different root method that don't render the battery to 80%, i wish i knew how to look for exploits (I'm currently trying to learn) but until then, this is what we have. What are your reasons for believing this is not a real root method?
timmy10shoes said:
I mean its not really root because they are using a modified system file, not finding a real working exploit. It is a leaked factory image and a leaked factory kernel that needs to go with it. Well that's why I'm still hoping for a different root method they don't have to use leaked files. But i can say that this root method runs a lot smoother than the method we had to use in the S7. This method hasn't been out very long, but is say within the next few months we'll start seeing more development happening . Or at least i hope. I've just recently started making my own roms (i don't release them to anyone being as I'm still learning and can't give a lot of trouble shooting assistance) but it's fun for me to pass the time at work. (I have a real laid back job with nothing to do a lot of times lol)

I mean its not really root because they are using a modified system file, not finding a real working exploit. It is a leaked factory image and a leaked factory kernel that needs to go with it. The 80% isn't going away. Its built into the kernel with can't be touched or motified. But we can always dream

I've thought about buying am unlocked device but have read conflicting posts about service and radio bands messing that are used here in the US so I've always shyed away from them.
I have developed a few roms myself for the Bionic and Razr. Its highly entertaining and I want it myself but there hasn't been true root since the note 3 I believe.

I use unactivated devices. There is a ton on trial and error so I don't use my daily driver for that.
Are there any ROM anywhere for the snapdragon? Also anyone know where the stock firmware is located or can be found? When you go back,is it like it never happened ?

No roms yet (on AT&T at least that i know of). Not trying to be rude but do you even search, see attached picture. Literally 4 post down from this thread.
I did search, and the one thread that I found, says "link removed". Then further down, it has files for the S8+.

the %80 max battery issue
I've enjoyed a rooted Note 8(sm-n950u) Nougat7.1.1 for over a week via samFAIL method and am quite thankful to the samfail/pwned team for providing it.
The max battery issue is the only drawback as far as I've noticed so far. I have a nice and speedy phone that is devoid of bloating apps, and vendor/carrier garbage.
As far as the max battery issue, I've done some digging and haven't found a cure yet.
I've noticed a couple things.
in /efs/Battery and in /sys/class/power_supply/battery there is a file named batt_capacity_max that has something to do with the max battery limit which is obvious by name of course.
Notes:
1. You can not change the value in /sys/class/power_supply/battery/. You can edit and write the file without any error or sign of failure; But checking the file immediately afterwards, you'll find that the contents did not change.
2. You can change the file in /efs/Battery/, but the contents are reset upon reboot.
3. The file contains only a number.
In my case, batt_capacity_max contains the number 1000 regardless of the charged state. i.e. It is 1000 when the phone if charged to max, and it is 1000 when the phone is nearly drained.
I change the value to see if it has any effect, and it does.
I interpreted the 1000 as binary 8, and changed to number to 1010 (binary 10). Then I charged the phone only to find that I could not charge the phone past 17% eep! This wasn't a problem though as rebooting the phone or returning the file to its original value restored the function to normal(rooted normal, that is..max 80%).
I've also deleted the file, then charged the phone to find that there was no effect.
I then came across a slightly older xda thread charge to 100 snapdragon root(s8 sampwn)
The thread had a great number of contributors and provided a great deal of background info, but the method described therein has become obsolete or does not apply to the Note 8 i believe.
If anyone has discovered anything effective regarding the battery max limit, I hope they will contribute that info here, or at least link to an existing thread that I may have missed.
One thing I would like to understand is what processe(s) are being employed in this battery limit system. Is it merely a sub-function of the SafetyNet, or something else? I've filtered what I believe are the pertinent logs(dmesg and logcat) trying to find reference to batt_capacity_max but have come up empty.
I have't tinkered with this in a couple days, but I plan to get back to it tomorrow. Anyone has ideas or suggestions, please contribute. personally I don't really care wether I "fix" this issue as much as I am using this pursuit to glean a better understanding of the android/samsung subsystems relative to it. .. to fix it, of course, is ideal.
