I was holding off rooting waiting for Oreo but couldn't wait any longer. I'm now rooted and modded to my liking. It almost feels like a custom rom now. The mods I have done are. The Sound Mod(fir dual speakers), GRX V8(touchwiz mod), Wings 968 Fonts, xposed framework(FireFds Kit and Flat Style Bar Indicators, the modules I'm using), UX9(some S9 apps), Note8 Live Messages and a few apps I use are Csc Features and Faster GPS. I'm happy now the only mod I can't find is dual audio(bluetooth). Just thought I'd share whats working for me.

No its not same Note 7 ,its realesed in 3th part in 2017 (july 2017) note7 in August 2016 .
---------- Post added at 10:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:39 PM ----------
release year that's what important us
They handle the FE as a 'new' device , it comes with 7.0 out of the box so 2 major updates i guess is oreo plus any sweeties starting with P. Practically it means a note7 with 3 major updates since they were dicking around for a year before they released the FE
But Note FE is not treated like any of the flagship Galaxy S/Note devices. Already now it only receives security updates on a quarterly basis. So 2 major updates is veeery unlikely. I'm even in doubt about Oreo. I do hope, and chances are rather good. But look at some other Samsungs that failed to get even a promised update.
We should be more than happy for Oreo update even if it comes in 2019. The security updates will eventually stop post 2018. It is a sinking ship and we all knew it before we jumped on board.
Look guys i would be still happy to use my n7 if my imei wasnt blacklisted... so i am quite happy with any updates but if there are no updates thats fine foe me too. The phone knows everything I need.
I'll be happy with oreo and security updates.

Exactly. The single-SIM version hasn't even received the January security updates. But hardware-wise it's the best phone out there at the moment for me (or maybe I need to talk myself out of buyer's remorse, having bought mine just 2 weeks ago):
-no weird 18.5:9 aspect ratio
-front-mounted finger-print sensor
-home button
-Qi-charging
-Samsung keyboard is the best keyboard in my opinion
could have more internal memory (or dedicated SD slot). And the change to Exynos probably means we'll not get much from custom ROMs. I'm happy with the device right now and it was more or less what I wanted, at a still reasonable price. But probably the next one will be from Huawei.
Sorry for drifting too much OT.
i doubt for P update...

i doubt for P update and it'll be a big surprise if somehow we get treble enable on Oreo update, because core structure for treble is based on different storage partition, if they release OTA to change that partition then it might brick dozens of phones if i'm not mistaken.
and I believe Oreo will be 2nd major update for FE as its based on 2016 model.

I dont believe anything Samsung is saying
I just dont know why they cant stick to a date? Help me here?
I have been sitting on the edge of my chair, and the date gets moved, and moved and moved to a new date for the release.
I just read that we might get skipped with M and get N ??
I mainly want better battery life. Mine sucks. And I dont want to lose warranty to root.
I just wish we can have a date for sure

There's a guilty looking person holding a fire extinguisher standing beside a pile of charcoal and foam...
There is the (very) likely possibility that Samsung will release a half-assed update like has happened before... It will be a blend of Lollipop and Marshmallow having certain core features of 6.0 but still being 5.1...
This has happened before, and even though people will argue it should be updated you have to admit the Note Edge is the bastard child that Samsung wishes swept under the rug....
How much support and developement have you seen for it other than token gestures...
Note Edge will NEVER get Android N. Heck it will not even get a bugfree Marshmallow. As someone suggested it will be a half baked product which will break more things than it will actually fix.
I have totally given up in Samsung when it comes to software updates, so should you guys.
update come...

I've been waiting for a long time for android 7.0 on my S7 edge , and im sure some of you do, does anyone knows when its coming out for us?
Jesse said that it should be here within a week or two.
Give Samsung some time. They just cancelled their N7, and the more time they spend with Nougat, the less bugs we will have. Of course they could give us a working beta like couple of days after Nougat came out, but would You want to see millions of force closes? I can't wait either but we have to.
I also think that it will be rolled out in the end of October.
Sometime between October 2016 - to March 2017 . I'd rather wait and it be right. Android tends to ship with lots of bugs. Remember the memory leak bug, the one google still hasn't fully fixed from lollipop.
When oems rush out android versions it becomes a mess. Look at lg. Nougat and marshmallow are plagued with bugs as they threw it out to soon

If history is any precursor to what we can expect, I'd expect Nougat after the S8 is released, and even then I'd only expect 7.0 and not 7.x. Don't buy anything but Google if you want to stay current on software.

People have to realize, there are 5 more months, almost half a year during which the S7 and S7 Edge will be the best that Samsung has to offer. The Note 7 failure ensures that Samsung will not repeat their usual updates history. I expect Samsung to put some extra work and time into the Nougat stuff for the S7/Edge. At the same time, they may also try to freeze their development in order to get their customers to buy the S8.
But as for me, if I don't see and update with the 3rd party notifications on AOD soon enough, I will just go with LG for the next iteration, I am almost sure that the LG G6 will avoid all the mistakes of the G5 and will be a great phone.

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has actually noticed this already, or if it's actually a new thing. Long story short, I've been missing the Galaxy Note 7 since returning it to Samsung a few weeks back, and today sprung for a used Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920K) that was actually a decent price and in basically brand new condition. All the more so given that the hardware never even released here in Japan to begin with.
Anyway, after setting up the device, an OTA began to download. The Note 5 was at the time, running 6.0.1 and had the August Android Security Patch installed. The file download was in excess of 600MB however, and I thought something to be odd given that the September and October patches, even together, couldn't be that large. When the phone rebooted, I was absolutely floored to find none other than the Note 7's Grace UX on the phone. This *includes* the Bluelight Filter in Display Settings for reference, something even the S7 Edge has yet to receive.
When I had checked SamMobile earlier, the update details hadn't even been listed in their firmware, making me wonder if this was just released today? For reference it's Baseband Version N920KKKU2CPI1 and Build MMB29K.N920KKKU2CPJ4. Oddly the Kernel Version has a build date of October 24th.
Have I missed something in the past few weeks of Note-worthy news, or is this a major development?
I can take screen captures if anyone wants to see.
Please post screen shots.

This is not a common practice by Samsung, for my experiences with numbers of Samsung flagship models, it doesn't even give a facelift Ui for any of its update firmwares, you want new ui then you have to buy a new device, that's it. !!!
I guess tokyoguy may just be very lucky or Samsung has made a mistake by accident.

Well the thing is that Samsung is currently working on bringing Grace UX to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge via the Nougat update. So in this case the company is clearly intending to port the design changes. What I'm trying to figure out is if (1) there was some kind of mistake and I did, in fact, get lucky, (2) all the Korean carrier variants have had this update pushed to the devices, or (3) this update has been floating around for a few weeks now and just no one mentioned it.

Its officially released by samsung as usual they release it for in the home country n later they push in other countries so chill guys all the variants of note 5 will be getting the update
I think the blue light filter is restricted to note after note 7 fiasco samsung is taking more care of their customers

What about Spen? Any changes? Thanks!
The S-pen settings have been, from what I can tell, changed to those from the Note 7. This means, among other things, that's it's now not possible to modify the sound file played when the stylus is removed or inserted; I never cared for the default option unfortunately.

The last Samsung phone I owned was a Galaxy S3, a few years later I bought the Galaxy S8+. My previous phone (the Z5 already has android 7.1 for months now). Even then people on XDA were complaining about how slow Sony updates their phones. But now I'm here, with the S8+ and I'm wondering, why does the S8+ not have android 7.1 yet? Is there any schedule available of Samsung updating this phone. There's also so little development. Back in the days the Galaxy phones had so much development going on, which I missed.
I'm happy with this phone and android 7.0, but android 8 is almost coming and were still running on 7.0.
the step from 7.0 to 7.1 is not that big...
At all but the note 8 will be first
I've been in the Motorola community for the last 3 years, but I think the lack of development has to do with Knox.
Also, is bought this phone knowing that updates were going to be slow, and I am fine with that. After years of custom roms, I am getting tired of doing workarounds just to get things to work. I am happy to have things just work.

I agree with this, the only reason I rooted my phone was to use AdAway and mainly to use Viper4Android. Which I'm regretting a little, since I can't use Secure Folder, but I'm hoping someone manages to make it work... With Knox tripped. Now a stock ROMs are so good that rooting isn't needed as often to require something.
Although people say the step from 7.0 to 7.1 aint big, progress is progess and in my eyes Samsung is taking a long time to update this phone.
Yeah but its a bummer seeing £500 phones come out with it (Blackbury, One+) come to mind and my £850 flagship is still running 7.0

More likely Samsung is going to skip 7.1 and we will get upgrade to 8.0
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Why does anyone care. It's just a number. We've got the latest security patch and apart from that 7.1.x brought basically nothing new.
Better Samsung invests their time into a timely 8.0 release.
I care. Android 7.0 has a bug in its (default) TLS implementation which makes it not work with implementations / servers which offer higher ec curves than 256 (such as secp384r1 or secp521r1). If any of those curves are offered as preferred, the whole TLS connection fails (instead of just using a lower curve, if offered; or a non-EC cipher suite). This bug has real world implications. E.g. davdroid (caldav / cardav sync adapter) fails with any TLS server using such a setup. To make matters worse in nginx this can only be configured globally, i.e. for all domains served. While the config option is available in server{} statements, it doesn't have any effect. The nginx developers claim this is due to a bug in OpenSSL.
Anyways, the true issue is Android 7.0 failing. This has been fixed by Google in 7.1. Of course Samsung could backport this fix, and remain at 7.0. But they didn't even do that. Given that this bug is known for a long time and has been fixed (in 7.1) for a long time this is really bad support for a such a premium phone.

Didn't somebody also say that samsung was working on a Oreo update for the Galaxy S6, but it was false information, because the supporter meant a security update and not a major firmware update. I mean, we already have several One UI ports here, the only people who would benefit are Snapdragon users.

Aren't all of our Pie ROMs fundamentally based on Ivan Meler's LOS 16 beta, though? There simply isn't anyone else who was able or willing to reverse-engineer all of the drivers and take over the, apparently, messed-up device tree left over from LOS 14's last maintainer. The One UI "ports" add the Samsung libraries and SystemUI mods needed to make Samsung stock apps work, but below the application layer, everything I've seen so far is the same. That means that they all share the occasional hard reboot and memory leak issues with Magisk. The further they stray from the original LOS 16 beta, the less stable they get; Havoc for example is an undailyable huge mess with all of its customizable system apps. Some people say it works, but I suspect those are the same super-enthusiasts who've had a ROM of the week since the Gingerbread era, and they're just used enough to instability not to notice it.
The last official ROMs, and the SupermanROM/GalaxyProject stuff based on them, played nicer with Magisk and, if you still care in 2019, *a lot* nicer with Xposed. Never a reboot, not even once, as opposed to LOS 16 rebooting every 3rd or 4th time it connects to Android Auto (the Lockscreen to SmartLock handoff is at fault if I had to guess), and no negative performance impact. Even the N and O LOS ROMs were a lot better. I'd expect the same improved stability and moddability from a ROM ecosystem built around official Pie as we had with Oreo, which would be good for everyone whether Exynos or Snapdragon.
