Pixel 2 XL brick in the box! - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Ordered a second P2XL since they were $200 off. It was suppose to arrive Thursday but got delayed till today. Opened it up and attempted to turn it on, NOTHING. Put it on charge using my other OE charger, 10m later, NOTHING, 1hr later still NOTHING. I cant get it into bootloader. No LED or charging screen, basically no signs of life at ll. It does nothing when plugged into the PC either.
Anyone have any other ideas to revive this unit before I have to advance RMA another one? It won't ship out until Monday anyway, so I'd like to try my best.

I had a similar problem with a Nexus 7. I put my charger on a power strip that had an on/off rocker and toggled it a bunch of times until I jumped the battery back to life. It might be worth a try. I got the same deal this week and mine arrived at half charge. No issues for me. Sorry for your bad luck.

I did attach it to mu other P2XL and it does recognize that it's plugged into another device and I can choose supply power to device. I don't think it is though because battery is not dropping on the donor device. Sucks because I NEED the device now.

If your battery is totally flat it can be really hard to jump start it, which is why my Nexus wouldn't even take a charge after being totally run flat and shelved. Sending pulses of voltage in repeated bursts charged the battery enough to restore it's ability to charge. This may not be the case for you but it helped me. I found this method on xda.

Sleep of Death hard brick

I've been running Revolver 4 beta for a few weeks, and experiencing the random reboot/sleep of death that ICS seems to bring. It's obnoxious, but I can live with it.
Today, though, I got home from work, and the thing will not boot at all. I mean, nothing. No Asus logo, no recovery, no screen on at all.
I have a replacement plan from Best Buy, so I'm probably just going to get it replaced tomorrow, but I'm curious if I'm the only one to have this issue.
Also, I imagine that short of replacing it, I'm boned, right?
Edit: I'm a complete moron. My charger is plugged in behind the couch, and apparently came unplugged sometime over the past few days. I apologize. Please laugh at me, and delete this thread, if possible.

Try connecting to the usb port on PC and let it sit 8-10 hrs off. It may have woken up and run down the battery. If the bat is too low the standard charger will not charge it. Getting the bat level up a little may let it charge again.

dropped my nexus now it only charges while off

well as I'm sure you all did.... the first thing I did when you got your N7 was to unlock and root it so you could load up all the games that you worked hard at on your phone... everything was great until it slipped off of my car seat when I got home and now it will not recognise the USB port while its powered on... my computer will not recognize the device at all to transfer data either... luckily I have already unlocked/ rooted and loaded team win recovery...
so here is my question... where can I look to see if something got broken when I dropped it... I took off the back cover and and everything looks ok...
my other question is will google replace it if I send it back saying that the cable does not charge while powered on... I can not relock/ return to stock without usb/adb connection
the length of turn around time that I hear about with the 16gb models I might wait it out to see if I can deal with it... I have a wifi web sharing app that I can use even though its very slow compared to a direct cable
If you can get back to the stock rom ...I'd sent it back if it's all possible. The Rma is quick and painless if your tablet was bought on Google Play.
- The turn around time for me on a 8gb and 16 gb tablets from Google play was just a few days. (Under a week from the time I called until the time I got my tablets in my hands. )
Well I let it charge off for the night and it is charged 100%... I guess I'll just rely on wifi connectivity for a while and see if I can manage before I try and return it

That really sucks man typically they won't replace a device that has been unlocked. Have you tried a factory reset yet? I I know it sounds unlikely but I have had accelerometers go to "sleep" from being dropped and or a faulty rom and a factory reset brought it back. Its really weird since you do get a charge when its off.. if it was broken hardware I would think you wouldn't get a charge at all. Make sure you do a nandroid backup before so you can get your apps back if it doesn't fix your problem.
Also about the RMA for the 16gb I believe now they are actually out of that model at the time. They may have a stash just for returns but if you decide to try a return I would make sure to find out what the estimated wait time would be.

Yea that's the weird part... But I did flash it back to stock ROM but nothing worked... If I could get USB to work I could flash it back to stock and lock it... Its a loose wire somewhere inside I'm thinking

My N7 16gb charged properly on the first charge. Now on the second charge, it will only charge while powered off. My device is stock and has not been dropped.
I plugged it in last night, while powered on, and woke up to find the battery in about the same state that it was in 8 hours earlier. That was with it plugged into a 2.5 amp HP Touchpad charger. I tried plugging it into a 1 amp charger and got no indication that it e was charging, until i turned it off. Then it put up the charging indicator. I will try using the N7 charger and see if that makes any difference.
It is possible, but very unlikely, that the device is doing a handshake with the charger when the device is powered on, and if it fails then refuses to charge. If that were happening i would expect to see a warning pop up on the device.
UPDATE: My device will charge properly off the asus charger that came with it. It totally sucks that the N7 appears to do a handshake with the charger. My advice to the OP is to make sure you only use the original charger.
Does ADB wireless work? Might not help you with fastboot, but you could push/pull files...
Yes all wireless connections work fine... But I guess I'm just going to have to live with this issue since it was my fault but at least I am already rooted with custom recovery so I might get lucky and have a kernel that might be able to fix it...

Based on the post about the charger "handshake," maybe it's the charger that's gone bad, and not the device?

I dropped it cracked screen and can't unlock the screen, UK Repairs
Hi, hope someone can help :-0
I dropped my Nexus (oh dear!) and the screen's cracked. It powers OK, just I can't unlock as the touchscreen is not responding.
Asus UK can repair it, but can't quote me a price (because they've had so few repairs in yet)
Questions:
1. Anyone dealt with Asus UK repairs? Or any ideas of the costs of replacing a broken screen?
2. Can I reset the device by just using the on/off and volume keys as the touchscreen is dead
Thanks
As long as you have adb connection you can reset it to stock... I've got no USB connection so I cant... wugfresh toolkit has all the proper files to flash the stock image...
I've been doing OK with no USB... I charge it at night and I last me all day easily

Nexus 7 Won't Turn On

Hey everyone,
I've tried searching, but no luck, so here's my issue.
My nexus 7 was around 25% battery last night so I plugged it in for the night.
Woke up this morning and the backlight was on, but the screen was off.
When I unplugged my n7 the backlight turned off. Hitting the power button had no effect.
I then tried pushing and holding the power button for roughly a minute, nothing.
I have disconnected the battery and still no response from the unit.
I plugged it back in for roughly a minute as well, still nothing.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a charger right now.
Is it possible the battery is dead even though it was on the charger all night?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Weird.
Just plugged it in to my car charger and it booted up. Battery is completely dead, so I guess with the backlight staying on all night it didn't charge.
Now why would the backlight stay on if the screen is off...

Don't go flashing different roms and kernels now like most of the idiots here, it could just have been your charger being faulty or a bad connection to the tablet overnight. if the problem happens again then you can investigate further.
BTW, were you charging from your PC/Laptop with a USB cable or through a wall adapter? i've had issues in the past charging my Nexus 4 and 7 not charging overnight on my PC
I feel like a broken record but since I've fixed a ton of n7s with loose battery connections, I would recommend checking the internal battery lead to make sure its not loose. Asus didn't do a good job of making sure all n7 batteries were secure and this allowed the battery to shift and pull the power lead out. Some clear scotch tape on the connector and one on the battery (avoid the copper tape areas) will eliminate this problem if that's what you have.

I ran into this problem. Initially, my Nexus 7 didn't start. When I plug in the charger the screen would flicker from time to time but there's no indication of charging. So I decided to open it up to see that the battery cable has loosened. So I managed to fix it and use it happily thinking that it won't happen again.
Since last week, the same issue happened. I thought it was the same issue and opened it up to see that the battery cable is firmly in place. So I got a shock. I removed it and re-inserted it again to see if it fixed it. But nope, it won't turn on. And now it's been a week and I don't know what to do It's nothing wrong with the loose cable cuz now it's firmly in place.
Now when I plug it in to charge, the screen will just flicker (as in the back light will turn on and off in 5 sec intervals). What do you think I should do? I tried holding the power button for 30 secs as well.
I bought this new from eBay and still under warranty. But I live in Sri Lanka. So when I bought it, I had to ship to a friend in the US and had to wait till he came down. So it's not easy for me to ship back and to receive another device. Hopefully I can find a solution to fix this myself.

Make sure that the cables between the battery and the connector are intact and not broken. One or two people reported a broken cable.
Does it boot while plugged in to the charger with the battery disconnected ? You could simply have a bad battery.

I checked again. The cables aren't broken. They are all in good shape.
It doesn't boot when I plug in. Actually it doesn't show anything on the screen. If I look closely I can see static flicker on the screen from time to time. Just like the static in TV but much much less. Like only a few of those in certain places.
When this happened the first time I opened it up to see the loose cable. So fixing that helped it then. But now I dunno what's causing it.

Might have to try a different charger, maybe something stronger. I JUST had that problem with my GF Nexus 7. It wouldn't boot with her normal charger and the screen would flicker like a TV. I used my Nexus 4 charger and it worked.
She had left the battery fully drain for over two weeks and I think the battery didn't appreciate it.

[Q] Nexus 4 Bricked?

So, my nexus has been good to me since I've owned it (2 years and counting), however recently (about two weeks ago) my nexus randomly died in the morning, while I was using it. At first I thought it was a simple crash as I was running Hells Doctor with TARDIS Mod, yet when I plugged my phone back in, I was greeted by a solid red light!
Fast forward a week I received a battery to serve as a replacement, as I thought it was the red light of death, yet after I finished installing the battery I hurried to go charge my phone back up, only to be greeted by the same solid red light.
Move up about three days, I asked my friend for his Qi Charger, as I then thought the charging port was damaged, left it overnight charging on the Qi Charger only to be greeted by once again the same solid red light in the morning.
Now I'm at present time of posting this, I'm starting to worry that my phone has had a hard brick, so I planned on going into download mode and doing a hard reset, but both my computers were not able to recognize my phone in download mode, nor did I ever get the download screen on the nexus itself.
I'm beginning to lose hope! I've tried all button combinations, tried 'jump starting' my battery, now I'm resorting to this.
Any other ideas? Or is it time to part ways with my beloved nexus?
What if it's a problem with your display connector ?

I've not thought of that, but if it is, then the price would be too steep for me

[Q] Is this an issue of a dead battery?

While charging my Nexus 7 I noticed that the battery was actually draining rather than charging. This is happened in the past as well where I would plug it in overnight and find it at 42%. My Nexus also dropped from 100% to 77% in less than an hour with no use at all.
Recently while charging I went into the bootloader to shut down the Nexus. Now I plug it in and the screen is blank. I have tied a rubber band around the power button so it is constantly being pressed.
Is this a battery issue that can be solved by simply ordering a battery on eBay and changing it? The past behavior of the tablet makes me think it's either a software or battery issue.
i have the exact same thing... n7 is dead as a brick... have tried everything... i also measured the battery and it's on 0.93 v so there is still juice inside...
can't figure why it doesn't work... if u find something plz let me know too
mine done the same thing . But it done so after leaving it for a few weeks not charging. I charged for like 30 minutes . turned it on . It started updating apps. then all at once screen went off. and that was it..
I had square trade warranty as my tab was bought back when 32 gb 2012 version came out. So i sent it in and they fixed it . I have no idea what they done but it has the same serial numbers mac address and so on. So i suspect it was just revived somehow.
I sent email asking exactly what was done to fix it with no reply back.
Don't have a warranty... it the 1st Gen n7 so I called Google and it doesn't have warranty
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
I'm way past warranty. I've had it a couple of years now.
I bought a battery off of eBay. I'm going to remove the back cover and replace the battery and hopefully that will fix the issue.
Will update with the results or lack of results.
