photos open in ms paint - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

After I take a photo with my S8, I tie my S8 to my computer with a usb cord. I am running windows 10 on an acer desktop system. When I click on the photo icon on my S8, the photo opens on my computer in windows photo viewer. From wpv I can print the photo but I cannot copy the photo to my computer. So far I am only able to copy the photo to my computer from ms paint. That works fine except that's a whole lot of clicks per picture. Life would be much simpler if I could copy photos from my S8 to my computer from wpv. Is there a way to make this possible? All ideas, suggestions, comments any wish to offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

Why not use file explorer? Like you would to copy any other files...

You have a computer useage problem, not a phone problem...

Exactly, just copy the whole photos folder in your PC and then start sorting (deleting) from there, after your photos are already in your PC.

No file association for pictures

Hi, I just discovered that there is no association for any of my pictures, including those on my storage card. Does anyone know how this happened, and can this be fixed without a hard re-set?
Thanks!

Try in file explorer going to one of the photo files and then clicking on the menu button and then on open path and then put in the path box windows\start menu\programs\ pictures and videos and see if that doesn't associate the files with pics and vids again. I remember having to do that sound files before once in WM 2003 and it only took one file to associate with it to associate all them again. Hopefully that's all it will take in WM5 or WM6, whichever you're using.
Just an afterthought, did you try running pics and vids and see if it wouldn't just find those files and associate them with it?

I ran pictures and videos, and was able to view the pictures in my pictures main memory, my pics, storage card, but the pictures still had the white icon with the windows logo in the center. I could not view by tapping directly on the picture. Any how after aggravation, I did a hard re-set that I didn't want to do. I saw open new path, but didn't know what to put in for the path. Now I know thanks to you if it ever happens again.
Thank You!

No problem. That kind of problem doesn't seem to happen very often, so hopefully you won't have to do that again. If it does though, it may be caused by software that you have installed.

As a matter of fact, I installed XN viewer for photos, and with all the options that were available, I must've some how associated the viewer with my pictures, and when I removed the program, I removed the default association as well. Live and Learn!

Undelete tools on PPC?

I know there is some tools for file undelete on the PC. But isn't that handy if we could find one on the PPC so that we can save our file on the CF/SD?
connect your SD/CF to the PC and run to undelete/recovery progarms. Works the same.

Of course I know we can do it on the PC (as I already mentioned). But I am looking for something on PPC so that I don't have to bring my PC w/ me for this purpose.
oh... sorry I misunderstood
i will sleep on it tonight and see if i get any ideas
How about using the recycle bin feature of resco explorer. If you delete a file, it actually got moved to the recycle bin the same way on a windows machine?
I know it's not exactly what you want - but you may give it a try and save you day.
this is beginning to sound like a data recovery service on-the-go.
No wonder there aren't any freeware written for it... hehehe
imagine recovering USD10 for each megabyte on a 2GB SDCard hehehe
A real use case for this apps is to recover a deleted picture from digital camera. It would be very handy to use my little Axim x51v (instead of my 6 lbs laptop) to undelete file deleted by my digital camera. (Therefore, recycle folder from Resco Explorer is not what I want).

viewing pictures in different albums folder

I have created different folders to store different pictures. But on this X1, when want to browse the pictures, it will show all of them in one place. It is not like the Touch HD, I get to choose from my storage card and select the folder name for my pictures. Does anyone know the trick ?

I'm having exactly the same issue and and looking for a solution.
quick solution : use another viewer software, or the default windows viewer.
Is there another viewer software, wich running without bugs or lagging?
It should offer the sliding switch function like the iphone or the standard viewer from X1. I mean the picture switch without pressing a button - just sliding with your finger over the display..
Thanksss
Resco photo viewer is the best one out there, not sure if its touch friendly though

You can either use file explorer (or total commander, resco explorer etc.) on the phone to move the files, or connect to your phone using active sync, so you can see both the phone memory and the storage card. It sounds to me like you're connecting to your PC with your phone as a USB device/disk drive. This only allows you access to the storage card - not the phone memory.
Once you've moved them across, you should probably go into the camera settings and change 'storage' from phone to storage card (you just touch the icon and it will switch over). That'll save you having to move them across every time.
I am a little bit puzzled as to why your computer 'only finds the ones on the storage card'. What are you using to 'find' the photos?
If it's just Windows Explorer, then it should be able to 'find' them on the phone too. They're normally stored in the 'My Pictures' folder, which you can find under 'My Documents' (not the obvious place to look - hence the above explanation, just in case you didn't know to look for them there...).
Thanks johncmolyneux.
But how do i move them across once in File Explorer? I can see all the photos in My Doicument/My Pictures/100MEDIA but how do i physically move them - i can't see it under the menu option??
You are right about me connecting to my PC as a USB - clealry i need to be using ActiveSync.
Thanks again for you help
thanks johnkst
I have now changed the setting on the camera to avoid this problem in the future!!
I think it is because i wasn't using the ActiveSync but the disk transfer option.
Still can't see how to move the photos across (using phone only) even when using file explorer - perhaps i'm just being stupid!
A quick followup question- is there a way of changing the directory on the storage card into which the camera app writes? I want to use a directory off the root of the storage card called "photos", not the one buried in /DCIM/100MEDIA/ etc. Is there a registry setting for this?
Thanks for any help!

Get activesync set up and get your phone connected, then you can right-click the activesync icon and select "explore". You can then explore your phone's folder structure, exactly as you would on your PC, and cut and paste things easily from there.
Thanks
And apologies again for the lame question!

[Q] Changing incoming/outgoing calls default image

I want to change the default image that my WM 6.1 HTC Touch HD uses for the incoming/outgoing calls. I know you can add pictures for contacts, but i just want to replace the image i get for any call, be it a person from my contacts or an unknown number. I guess it's possbile to replace the image in the Windows directory, but i couldn't find it. If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it. Thanks
i guess, if it is a standard graphic file like .jpg or .png, the easiest way to find it would be to open Pictures & Videos (not Album!), the app is still present in most roms. then navigate to the windows folder and it will show you all the pictures in the windows folder and subfolders, look it up in the previews, click it and look for the file name (probably in properties).
it takes quite a while to load, since due to sense there are a lot of files present in the windows folder, and frankly, i'm not that interested in replacing that file, so i didn't finish it.
another, maybe faster, way might be to open a file explorer like resco explorer or total commander, sort the files in the windows folder by file type, then either open up the first picture and flick through the pictures in Album (or whatever your standard picture viewer is) until you found it OR copy all pictures to the sd card and look it up on the PC in disk drive mode (this might actually be the fastest way).
Found it in Windows folder with the help of Pictures & Videos application and the .png is called Default_person. Replaced it and now i got a decent default pic for incoming calls. Thank you very much. Topic can be closed.
